While the cost is high for Auburn, this is definitely worth the price tag. Incredible food and spectacular service. Each dish tells a story and the setting is quite intimate. Be sure to get a reservation 3+ weeks in advance.

The smoked salmon appetizer on the Kaizen board.

We had lunch yesterday in this beautiful space and as an alumni, I was THRILLED to see such an incredible space with that caliber of food and wine as a teaching space for AU students. I hope the community knows how lucky they are to have it and support the restaurant fully. We made a reservation a while back and let them know of my husbands allergy to certain seafood and our excellent server Angel was astute enough to warn him off of a dish we normally wouldn't have thought would be a problem, avoiding an unpleasant experience. I had the Kaizen which was a perfectly portioned lunch with a choice of 2 entrees. The flavorful coconut soup could be sipped from the small cup, a nice touch. I chose the scallops which were cooked to perfection, and an appetizer of the smoked salmon was a perfect accompaniment. A chocolate mousse for dessert was delicious, but we also ordered the crème brûlée just to try it. Both were wonderful! I was in Paris 2 yrs ago and had a mixed experience with highly recommended restaurants, but this rivaled anything we had there. And the wine list is top notch. The by the glass selection is well thought out and balanced. At the end of the meal we were served a small plate of house made sweets that they kindly boxed for us to take with us. Overall this was a wonderful experience for us. I read the few negative reviews here, but giving this experience 1 or zero stars because they couldn't accommodate your small child with a separately made dish, or not allowing you to bring outside food in for them is ridiculous. There might be inflexibility because they are teaching students from a specific menu, as well as to use seasonal ingredients. Deviating from that may disrupt the training that is being offered to the students in the kitchen. Understanding this before going will help you appreciate the experience more fully. If you want your young child to have something they love and not cry and disturb other diners, feed it to them at home. Or better yet, leave them at home for a nice adult night out. This experience is for mature diners whose senses are open to new tastes and sights and an acceptance of what the program is offering the students. My advice is this...Go! Enjoy! It's worth it!! At least try lunch as a first time there. Leave the little ones at home unless they sit quietly to enjoy a succulent chicken dish with a fine Chablis.

This place was a treat for lunch. The menu changes frequently as new chefs come to visit the culinary school. Great service to accommodate our every need. Chef Leo Maurelli III knew what he was doing. I got the oxtail grilled cheese. definitely recommend this spot.

We had the mahi sandwich (with sweet potato French fries) and the shrimp & grits. Best food we have had in Auburn.

It is definitely on my Alabama "must-visit" list. I am from out of town, but I came looking for a workspace and wanted to grab lunch while I was there. I came around 1 PM and there was a 30 minute wait for 2 for lunch, but have no fear. We just went upstairs to the martini bar and were able to wait and work. We were seated in the garden for lunch, which are mostly cute high tops. Before we even began our meal, a fat adorable white rabbit crossed our path. Then an equally beautiful black rabbit crossed our path. I had no idea there was wildlife just prancing around and I was giddier than a little kid. (There are also ducks and geese who run around!). Now to the food: Had to get the smash burger because it was award winning and boy it did not disappoint! The depth of flavor and the juiciness of the patties were impeccable. I opted for guda cheese instead of cheddar, and I added grilled onions, and this was an excellent choice. The fries are super crispy and the comeback sauce is perfect for dipping . Don't judge us, but we also shared some desserts. The standout was the white chocolate cheesecake, which was sweet but not super indulgent. I would definitely skip the crepe next time. The description made it sound delicious. But overall, it was lacking in a flavor. It was by far the most disappointing dish of the day. Even though it takes a while for food to come out service is impeccable, and the servers are just so lovely, so be patient. I will definitely make the Botanic my go-to establishment when I'm in town!

Dining is an experience and my hobby my husband says. We indulge most nights in many great restaurants all around us or when we frequently travel. I want to start by saying my friend chose this space well! Though it was about a 40 minute drive from their house it was worth it. The venue, grounds, market, dining areas, etc. are all truly a delight. I cannot believe a place like this exists in this area. We started with adult beverages and the amazing complimentary bread with an assortment of butter options. For appetizers, we ordered the pimento cheese and corn ribs (forgot to photograph). Both were delicious! For entrees, the ladies had the pasta dish with my friend adding the shrimp. I am a vegetarian so I did it without any protein. It was very good. The men had the filets with the sides and found them to be cooked properly. The pros were as follows: Beautiful venue/spaces Delicious food The market had some nice shopping gifts to pick up for souvenirs and pastries for breakfast the next morning The cons: We were supposed to be at an inside table and they said that was not the case once we arrived and it was way too hot outside and the flies were terrible. I felt as if they should have accommodated us as we still waited 30 minutes to be seated despite her making reservations weeks ago. That really put a damper on the experience. Their corkage fee to bring your own wine is $40 per bottle. I take my own wine to every restaurant I go to and have never paid $40 even at much higher end places. The waitress was nice but loud and forgetful. We asked for things multiple times and never did get some of the requested things. They do offer lunch and dinner and the menus are a bit different. They focus on fresh produce from local farmers and some they grow there. If you are within a 30 minute drive, I would suggest going as there is not much in that area that compares according to our friends. There are multiple dining spaces so make sure you choose where you want to dine and confirm that. There are multiple bar options as well.

I started off with the Moon Over Madagascar, and let me tell you--if this drink had a fan club, I'd be president. The black tea and vanilla combo sounded like a weird dare at first, but it ended up being shockingly amazing. Whoever came up with that mix deserves a bonus and maybe a parade. Now, let's talk about the shrimp and grits, because these were not just "good." These were "call your mama and tell her you've tasted greatness" good. The chef is from South Carolina, and you can taste every bit of Lowcountry pride in that bowl. Perfectly cooked grits? Check. Pile of blackened shrimp? Double check. A sauce that made me rethink my entire life? Oh yeah. If they sold that sauce by the gallon, I'd be bankrupt but extremely happy. Erica, our waitress, was an absolute rockstar. Super helpful, incredibly informative, and somehow managed to keep the perfect balance of friendly and professional--even on the Sunday after the Iron Bowl, when half of Auburn is stress-eating. The place was spotless too, which is impressive considering the emotional damage that game causes every year. Bottom line: The Hound is a must-visit. Come hungry, order boldly, and thank me later.

I believe it effected some of the flavors of foods that were boiled in it, too. Gnocchi had some of the same off flavor. In addition, some of the flavors just feel way out of whack for totally unrelated reasons. Sauce that the duck came in was thin and overwhelmed by honey. The risotto it was served with seems like it should be rich and homey. But despite a crazy amount of added dairy still tasted thin and flat. Can't tell you why. Wonky seasoning? None of the dishes reflected any familiarity with acid to lighten or balance a dish. Fried green tomatoes were pretty mid despite a quality remoulade and a bunch of pimento cheese. Ingredients seem like they're decent quality. Desserts are legitimately top notch. Everyone recommends the peanut butter pie. And it is excellent, though pretty obviously not long out of the freezer. The affogato Is legitimately fantastic. And I'm not even talking about the pageantry of dumping the espresso on the salt ice cream. The combo is legitimately satisfying, like a well-rounded creamy candy. The plates are funky and cool and beautiful. The staff all seem like they're 19, attractive, and gregarious.
