I've been wanting to try The Depot ever since I've been in Auburn. Finally on my last night I was able to try it and boy did it deliver. At each point, the valet, the host, the server, the food runner--everyone greeted us with a smile and kindness. The welcoming environment was definitely not lost one me. Now, to get to the food: I love that the oysters rotate and I tried a Blue point (my favorite), Love Shucks, and a queen's cup. Next, we went for the blue crab dip. It's served in a great for sharing cast iron skillet. The dip was delicious, and although the dill chips were nice and crunchy, they were overall way to salty and really detracted from the crab dip. For entrees we opted for the stuffed trout and the grouper bites. The grouper bites were fried perfectly and the succotash that it came on really brought out the flavors. I wasn't a fan of the hash but my mom loved it. Now the star of the meal was the pickled onions on my trout. Wow! Truly elevated the dish in a way I hadn't expected and sounds so basic but was a genius choice. Another standout was our server Christian who was attentive, enthusiastic, and helpful. Found myself at the Depot after airing my grievances about my creepy former manager who looks like a Roblox character. Long story short, a Roblox-character-sized weight left my shoulders. At the Depot, I met a man‍ named Carson who offered me a ...."CARSON-Rita." Anyways, I didn't get the Carsonrita. I got the peachy keen, which is the Depot equivalent of a Whopper at Burger King or Chick-fil-a sandwich at, you guessed it, Chick-fil-a. This was our first time dining here and the place is very nice and elegant. The food was amazing and did not disappoint. They have the best chargrilled oysters I've ever tasted. The customer service was top tier from the time we walked in the door until the time we left. The front of the house manager (Tafadzwa) greeted us and made us feel very welcomed. We were a party of 3 and we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated because we did not have reservation which was not bad. When seated our sever (Thomas) recommended some great dishes and drinks from the menu. He did an amazing jobs meeting our needs. The only thing I suggest is upgrading the lighting because the lighting inside is very dim. Overall we had a great experience and we will definitely be coming back! read more

I want to jump straight to one of the best steaks I've ever had but I'll wait.... let's start with the service. Our waitress Josie was very attentive and knew the menu like the back of her hand. She made great recommendations about the many oyster options, the specials, and other items on the menu. We went with the Admiral and Nova Scotia oysters. They were both delicious. For our main entrees we chose the crab cakes and Wagyu Ny Strip. The crab cakes were great! The steak... one of the best dishes I've ever had. The strip was cooked to perfection, the sauce was succulent and the accompanied sides were amazing. I can't over state how good this entree was y'all. 10/10. A wonderful experience. Greeted by smiling, friendly valet and same continued inside at hostess stand. Servers ZJ and Taylor did an excellent job presenting the menu and the evening's specials. I enjoyed every single thing that touched my lips here, such a delish experience :) As an Auburn Alum, I was excited to come browse some new places that now call the city home since I graduated. My friends and I came here for dinner on our first night back and it was such a great choice. We started at the bar for happy hour where we tried a few different cocktails. My first choice was a ginger heavy drink and while it wasn't my personal style, my other friend loved it. I ended up going with champagne since bubbles are never out of style. After that we loaded ourselves up wity oysters, they had so many different kinds and a few were even on the happy hour menu. My fav were the little honey's. Tiny, but juicy and sweet. I kept the seafood trend going and ordered the shrimp and scallops as my main dish, they were flavorful and paired well with the grits underneath. We were a pretty late group of seven, but our server was so patient and kind as we debated what all to try and she nailed the specifics of each order. The lights dimmed a bit throughout the evening, giving the place a down home, elegant vibe. We saw lots of sweet couples and folks celebrating birthdays. There is a reason that the only place you can get a last minute brunch reservation on a football game weekend is The Depot. This place has gone downhill. Looks like reviews in the past were great; not so much anymore. After a bad first experience a few weeks before, we decided to give it a second try. Made a reservation several days ahead of time. 30 minutes before the reservation, received a text message from The Depot advising that they are busy and we needed to eat and leave. Can't say I've ever received a message like that from a restaurant before. Showed up and they were half empty. Same when we left. No line with over half the tables open. Had the food been good, I could have skipped the negative review but we were burned for the second time in a row with cold food and the wrong orders. Ice cold. Like they never even cooked it. The "service charge" in the bill for a party of 3 was another unexpected surprise. Can't recommend. This place has severely degraded. read more

We also loved their twist to the house salad. The dressing was refreshing. Entrees we ordered their ribeye & pork chop. We weren't a huge fan of the Alfredo sauce on the steak. Maybe on the side to dip a piece in but not smothered (wasn't expecting that). The pork chop was phenomenal! Smoky and cooked perfectly. The blue grits were also very delicious. Dessert we had banana foster with the ice cream on the side. Each bite you could taste every flavor they added to it. Would recommend everything except for the steak. I have to share how extremely disappointed I am in The Depot now. Tonight, I took my son and his girlfriend to the restaurant for his birthday. I have been to The Depot 4 times previously and have purchased gift cards for others from there. Sadly tonight's experience will be my last visit. The food was very bland and disappointing. I ordered the lobster risotto and it had no flavor to it. In addition, our service was less than acceptable. Our waitress disappeared on several occasions for long periods of time. And to end the evening, the valet person was unbelievably rude when we left the property. So rude that my spouse was shaking when we drove away. The Depot is a no-nonsense "our way or the highway" restaurant. The owner / manager have designed a controlled environment to deliver their culinary delights under a watchful eye and a stop watch, because they believe the "system" is better than the experience. From start to finish, it's a robotic operation from the reservation confirmation messaging ("arrive 10 minutes late and your table is gone" and "valet parking is limited!") until you sign the check. During our meal, a "viewer" stood in the midpoint of the restaurant with her back to the wall, iPad in hand, surveying the landscape of tables artfully (or scientifically?) managing the "clock". While the owners and managers probably believes it delivers an efficient process, the restaurant lacks any warmth. Service was good, other than when we were seated. We were the first table at 5pm and the restaurant was empty but they refused to move our table to a booth because it would disrupt their "system". Food was okay. Some average. Some not. The grits in the shrimp and grits was non traditional and overwhelmed the entire dish. The fish plates were appealing but many mixed with bacon, which was an odd combination. We came for Father's Day Brunch and the food is great and the service is friendly. We unfortunately sat at a big booth table behind a big curtain and it was hot as heck! And the water glasses are small and no ice and the water is room temp. As soon as you went to the regular dining area it felt nice and cool but I am 6 months pregnant and it was miserable eating so hot. Then the music was too loud and the right vibe for the situation (reggae) and I was so overwhelmed by that noise. But all in all it's a good place and I do look forward to going back. read more
