Our culinary tour of Auburn-Opelika brought us to Acre, the restaurant often credited with putting this area on the map, led by Chef David Bancroft, who claimed victory on Netflix's Iron Chef Showdown in 2017. Acre sits quietly on E. Glenn Avenue in the heart of Auburn, surrounded by the hum of college life. It's a restaurant that practices what it preaches, with its own small plot of land where herbs, produce, and ideas seem to grow in equal measure. We came for lunch and were immediately greeted by the smell of smoke, the kind that wraps around you like a memory. Our table sat near the smoker, and when a chef opened its doors, the aroma of sausage drifted through the dining room, causing a collective pause. It was a scent that made promises, and Acre delivered on them. The fried green tomatoes arrived first, a southern classic that Bancroft transforms into something worth writing home about. Golden and crisp, they sat on a base of pimento cheese and were topped with sweet Gulf blue crab and a sharp Creole remoulade. It's a dish that bridges comfort and sophistication without ever losing its Southern soul. For my entrée, I chose the roasted duck flautas. The tortilla shattered on the first bite, giving way to rich, tender duck and the smoky warmth of hatch chili crema. Queso fresco and cilantro added brightness, a lift that kept the dish from feeling heavy. It's Mexican by inspiration, Southern by instinct, and all Bancroft by execution. My wife ordered the "Garden and Gun" grilled cheese, a playful nod to nostalgia and refinement alike. Thick sourdough, bacon jam, tomato, and American cheese served beside a silky tomato soup. The sandwich was built to be dunked, and when we did, it sang -- smoky, tangy, and just indulgent enough to make you forget everything else happening outside those walls. Chef Bancroft didn't just put Auburn on the culinary map, he redefined it. At Acre, tradition isn't something to preserve under glass, it's something to evolve, to nurture, to smoke until it becomes something new and wonderful. 5 Stars Southern comfort elevated to art, without ever losing its accent.

Acre in Auburn, AL, is farm-to-table dining that will take you on a culinary ride of taste buds. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a rustic yet modern decor that enhances the dining experience. The menu focuses on Southern cuisine with a contemporary twist. Service was amazing as our server knew all the ends and outs of the menu. If you want a date night or just a baller meal after a hard fought Auburn Tiger win then this is the spot.

This was a super nice surprise. We were so frustrated that we couldn't get a reservation on the only night we were in town but decided to try walk in. And we were lucky to find four seats at the bar. Such a swanky farmhouse like feel. drinks were expensive but tasty. They forgot our oyster order so provided complimentary pimento cheese to tide us over. My hubby got the duck breast and my son got shrimp rigatoni. My daughter got a Caesar salad and I had the sweet potato from their shared community garden. All was good tasting food, even if maybe a little too rich and fancy for a college town experience. Recommended for special occasions. Only reason for four stars is the wait time for the food (long) and the quality of the food was good, not excellent.

    Wife's birthday celebration!

Very disappointed with our dining experience on my wife's65th birthday celebration! After being seated at our designated reservation time, we waited 25- minutes for the wine and then 45- minutes for the entrees which were both cold. We returned them only to wait an additional 35-minutes to get the second entrees... which were actually our first meals only slightly warmer and dry. It's difficult to reheat fish a second time! A positive result, management reduced our bill taking meals off ! A class act! We gladly paid for the wine and salads! This restaurant was highly recommended by our friends and this special birthday dinner but fell short of our expectations! You need to be better!

Acre is beautiful inside and out. From the valet, to the hostess, to the server, everyone at Acre was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We decided on a variety of starters to share as our meal, followed by dessert. We tried the "gas station" boudin balls, lacquered cornbread, fried blue crab claws, and fried green tomatoes (the star of the meal!). The fried green tomatoes are topped with fresh lump blue crab and plated on dollops of delicious homemade pimento cheese. The breading on the fried blue crab claws was heavy and mealy, which made them our least favorite. They would be amazing sautéed instead. Both the s'mores brownie and peach sundae were good, with the s'mores being our favorite. Overall, it was a great dining experience and is highly recommended!

Very cute restaurant and a popular spot even on a monday evening. I enjoyed my salad and the co-op beets plate, it tasted fantastic but our dinner service was a bit slow. Highly recommend making a reservation as seating is limited

Always one of my favorites! If nothing else swing by for peanut butter pie with banana meringue, truly my favorite dessert of all time. Appetizers like the figgy toast and the fried green tomatoes are also wonderful. The charcuterie boards are also great pairings. Drinks are tasty as well. I have dined at acre many times and the Christmastime bar menu is my favorite. Can't go wrong with acre!!!!

I came in solo as I had a hankering for oysters but I didn't feel like driving to Montgomery to Capital City Oyster bar. I will be taking the drive moving forward. I sat at the bar, the bartender was initially engaging & semi helpful towards the end of helping with the selection of oysters available and what else was on the menu. When I inquired about which ones I had received --OMFG, you would've thought I called the kid out of his name, raised my voice or had been anything besides extremely pleasant! The experience was so coded...I earnestly feel like there was an expectation for me to behave a certain way when I made the SIMPLE inquiry which made me so uncomfortable. It was so mentally exhausting and all I wanted was to PAY good food and a drink. The kid ended up taking off my oysters even though I did not ask and on top of that he was making me anxious with his anxiety, fidgeting and apologizing so much. I felt I was in the twilight zone. My drink was good although I do not remember what I had. The food (oysters and crab claws) were not impressive in any way shape form or fashion. And return, I will not.

All the food, cocktails, and wine were all great! Olivine holds its own in the Auburn foodie scene and I couldn't believe that it was such a new restaurant. Southern Bramble cocktail was my favorite prior to moving on to the wine list. We love antipasti: our burrata di public abd rosemary focaccia. Sweet potato cappelletti and spicy rigatoni all a vodka were favorites. The space of Olivine makes you forget you are on the top of a hotel. I know it is not related to the hotel and has a separate entrance to remind you of that. Beautiful build out. I highly recommend checking out Olivine. They are open table.

We were able to get 6pm reservations for a standard table a month ago. This is a new establishment,…read moreso we knew it would be a bit difficult. We arrived a few minutes early, and our table was prepared quickly. Unfortunately, we were seated at a high-top table near the bar. The window tables were all full, but most interior tables were empty. Tables are very close together, and the music is loud enough that you can't hear the full conversation at the tables around you. The music was more appropriate for a lunch seating--strong bass and upbeat. It was odd that we were seated without menus. We sat there for several minutes before water service came by, and then a few more minutes before service brought menus. Noel, our server, was very helpful and knowledgeable. She let us know that the kitchen recommends ordering all items at one time. They had a nice wine selection. They have a limited selection of entrees. We were a bit concerned when we noticed most tables were not finishing their food. Most plates were being removed full. Several pizzas went by our table with single pieces eaten. We started with the BURRATA DI PUGLIA, which took a while but was fresh. My husband ordered the PORK SHANK, which was large and very hot. I had the SCIALATIELLI, which was nice, but I'm not sure I would order it again. I was informed I could add shrimp, but I chose to order as offered. The table next to us had the SMOKED MUSSELS and SPICY CAESAR as starters. They said the mussels were good and the Caesar was basic. They had the RAVIOLI AL CAPRINO and the PORK CHEEK PIZZA. They said they would order the ravioli again. For dessert, we ordered the MILLE-FEUILLE and the VANILLA BEAN CHEESECAKE. The Mille-feuille was very dry. Would not recommend at all. The cheesecake was large and would be perfect to share. It was a bit dry on the outside edges, so much so that the graham cracker crust fell off. Once you made it to the center, it was nice, and the orange blossom honey cream was a nice touch. There was one fig segment in the center and 4 berry pieces. Parking is in the city parking deck behind the hotel ($1 per hr). There is a separate entrance to the rooftop dining, but it was closed tonight. Turns out the designated elevator was out of service. The hotel elevator was very slow. The outside seating was very nice. There are several fire pits. Many people were enjoying drinks around the fire pits. Unfortunately, it does overlook the city parking lot/deck. The Samford cloak tower is visible in the distance. I'm sure the sunset views are amazing. We would return for the ambience. At these prices, there are now several other options for better meals (with more selection). At the end of our meal my husband made a visit to the restroom. As he was leaving the door to the water closet opened and an employee emerged and promptly exited the room walking directly into the kitchen. My husband made a point to look for a handwashing station that may have been used but there was not one. The dress was casual.

I was originally going to say that nostalgia should take you back to your youth without having to deal with the youth that are now frequenting this college watering hole. But I decided when it comes to 17-16, I can't find anything else wrong with it besides having to deal with college students. But you know what, when you have a great "college bar", you really shouldn't expect anything different. Therefore I will let nostalgia from the bar I loved in college negate any of those negative thoughts. Although, I'm sure our group stuck out like the old alums that still hit the bars when they are in town. What makes this bar a great college bar? First of all, the bar runs on both sides and there are always plenty of bartenders. Making it very easy to get a drink. Not to mention college town prices are AMAZING. Also because of this wrap around bar concept, it keeps people flowing in a "lap walking" form. So even though it gets crowded, it doesn't feel that claustrophobic. There is also an outside area in the back. So if you want to get out of the crowded bar, this is usually pretty wide open. Would I frequent 17-16 if it were in my hometown? Probably not. But when I do my once in a blue moon visits and know what I'm getting in to, I can't think of another late night bar in the loveliest village on the plains.
