Went to Acre with some friends for Sunday brunch; we were a party of 8 with reservations. When we arrived and checked in with the hostesses they seemed a bit clueless (all 3 of them) as to where to seat us or direct us to wait. Good thing our friends texted us and told us they were waiting for our table at the bar. We sat at the bar for quite a while before one of the two bartenders acknowledged us. Then drinks took forever to come out, when they did our table was ready. Our server Michael provided our party with excellent service, he was friendly and very knowledgeable about the food and made wonderful recommendations. The charcuterie board, bread & butter and fried bacon were all outstanding. We ordered different dishes from their brunch menu and we were all very satisfied with our entrees. The desserts were all delicious as well. Only downside to dinner was that our drinks would take a very long time to come out which is too bad because the drinks are great and we would've liked to order lots more. Clearly there was an issue at the bar that day. Perhaps they were short handed. Upon leaving I decided to stop by the front and buy a hat and t-shirt, I paid in cash and the three hostesses all had to gather and figure out how much my change was, took them a while but they finally figured it out. The day before our reservation at the Acre I called to inquire about our reservation. There was no answer. I didn't leave a message. Five minutes later I received a call from The Acre apologizing for missing my call (I think the hostess was named Lilly). I was speechless. Excellent service! We were driving in from out of town and meeting our daughter for lunch. What a wonderful decision to eat at The Acre! The building is stunning. There was complimentary valet service and the staff was knowledgeable and pleasant. We enjoyed Cory our waiter. The chicken fried bacon as an appetizer was unique. Our meal was superb. The cheese grits were the best I have eaten. I had the red fish and loved it. My daughter insists the highlight was the coconut cake for desert. My only regret is that we do not live closer to Auburn so we could dine at this wonderful restaurant more often. Thank you for making our day special. This restaurant is great; it provides the patron with a full customer experience that is hardly found in a small college town. There is complimentary valet parking once you arrive in the parking lot. Before entering through the front door, you will pass Acre's garden, which is used in creating the food, so it compliments the fresh food that you are receiving. The menu also makes a reference to the garden, which is a nice element. The service is always pleasurable. The hostesses, waiters, and waitresses always make this place a delight when dining in. This venue has a rustic styled decor with artwork throughout the building; it is accented by the natural lighting, which makes for a pretty, but natural vibe. I have ate here on multiple occasions. My favorite items on the menu are the chicken and waffles and salmon salad. The chicken and waffles are offered on the weekends, however, the salmon salad is offered daily. The prices are very reasonable and the food is always served upon order, so the food is always fresh. The food here was excellent, the waitress attentive, and the ambiance lovely. We made a reservation for 8:00 online, we arrived about 10 min early. Table was ready for us right around 8:00.The only downside of our meal was the snotty attitude of the main hostess but I still gave this place 5 stars because, she was the only downside. Our drinks were good- tried both the Hemingway and the Down by the Bay - I preferred the bay drink - tart, flavorful, and very good. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She checked in regularly and paced our meal well. We started with the tartare and roasted bone marrow- these we outstanding, the tartare was my favorite but both delicious, flavorful, and interesting. My husband enjoyed the red fish without the fennel slaw (he hates fennel), and they accommodated it nicely. I loved the Maple Leaf duck. Duck was cooked perfectly and the honey chili sauce was a welcome change from the cherry based sauces that typically accompanies duck. The risotto was really good alone but slightly clashed with the honey chili sauce. The tang of the cheese and the sweet spice of the sauce just didn't quite mix but it was still very very good. We ended with sweet potato bread pudding with sales ice cream a tag too much nutmeg in the bread pudding but a very good end to the meal. You know a place is popular in Auburn when you walk in, and you overhear the hostess tell a couple the wait will be 30-40 minutes at 11:45 AM on Sunday. And you see a woman complain to a manager the about the wait. All I can say is thank goodness for OpenTable. When you drive into the adjacent parking lot, you come across one of the worst sights you can eyeball, and that is valet parking in Auburn. Wha??? I'm perfectly capable of parking my car myself. In Auburn. Thumbs down to that. Valet successfully avoided by the glory that is street parking, we were seated in a sunny though a teensy bit drafty sunroom (it was a chilly day). The giant wall of windows provided a view of the veggie gardens outside. And some large trucks. Our server looked to be a college student, and he was very genial and attentive, though he did serve J sweet tea while she asked for unsweet. That may not have been his fault though. J got the "Garden & Gun" grilled cheese sandwich ($12), and I decided to give the original brisket burger ($12) a shot. A lot of the menu items did feature brisket. We did notice that for brunch, there was no pancake option. And no Benedict either. Oh well. Acre's signature burger comes with arugula, pecan-smoked bacon, white cheddar, and charcoal onion jam. I had ordered my burger medium and it was a little more on the well side. The fries were crispy and satisfying. The burger was hefty, and my favorite aspect was surprisingly the onion jam. Since I'm a raw onion fan so I thought I would miss them but not so much. I read on the Acre website that the restaurant collaborates with Auburn University's Meat Lab and the School of Agriculture which is pretty neat. J really liked her massive grilled cheese; I had a bite and was pleased too. The tomato soup looked perfect for a cold winter day. The server boxed up the leftovers which was a nice touch though Acre's usage of Styrofoam as the vessel could be improved. We skipped dessert since we were too stuffed. The dessert menu was wrapped around the check, and I thought $8-9 was a little steep for dessert, but hey, I wasn't getting it. Bathrooms were close to the kitchen/bar area. The two stalls in the women's were clean, and I liked the wooden stall doors that reminded me of a barn. Recommendation: If you want to dip your toe into Acre, make a reservation and try brunch/lunch out first before taking the plunge into dinner. Much more wallet-friendly. Looking forward to trying more menu offerings in the future! read more

Overall it was nice but not worth the effort and it's a little hard to find for out of town folks not familiar with the area. Server Piper was very attentive and professional. I was very pleased with the Steak TarTare. The entree I selected was the tenderloin which I had a issue with. This was my third visit and each time has been better than the last. I started with the butcher's board which includes 4 delicious house cured meats, pickles, pâté, pecan mustard, and benne crackers. My second course: pecan smoked salmon dip and grilled ciabatta - nice. We used to love coming here while we were in college. We are visiting from Houston and we're very disappointed in the quality of the meal. The menu is creative but our food lacked flavor. We started with the blue crab beignets. They were just glorified hush puppies with a trace amount of blue crab. If you are going to name after an ingredient, I should be able to taste it and not search for it. I ordered the maple leaf duck breast and it was cooked inconsistently, the Parmesan risotto was luke warm and not creamy at all. It looked like it had been sitting in a container in the kitchen and someone just put some on my plate on their way out the door. The sauce that came with the duck tasted like a watered down bbq sauce. It did not taste good or compliment the duck at all. My boyfriend ordered the red snapper, it was wayyy overcooked and the plating was confusing. It had multiple components that were served in a dish that was neither a bowl nor a plate. All of the different components met in the middle to create a muddled mess. We ended the meal with the blueberry white chocolate bread pudding. Again another dish that is named after ingredients that you could barely taste. The bread pudding was dry. To top off our lack luster meal, our waitress didn't check on us once during our meal (or we would have complained) and she proceeded to have 10 minute long conversations with two tables. So the rest of us were just sitting there waiting for her to get done talking and remember that she has other tables to take care so we could get our checks. Sadly, this place is not worth the price point and we will not be back. It's not worth 100+ dollars. read more

It's no secret to my friends and family that this is my absolute favorite restaurant. Since I was a freshman and Acre opened its doors, this has been my favorite place to celebrate birthdays, graduation, holidays, and gather with friends. For a while, I had the menu memorized (no shame here!), but I'm always surprised and delighted with the specials Acre comes up with! There's no bad seat in the house. If you sit at the Chef's bar, you can watch them craft each meal (including their desserts!) in front of you. If you sit at the main bar, make sure to say hello to the bartenders, who are always friendly and ask you about your day. You really the get the sense that Acre's staff is like a family. They are always friendly to each person that comes in and to each other. Even though I graduated, I still make a trip to Acre each time I'm in town. I cannot come to Auburn without getting my Garden & Gun Grilled Cheese, Shrimp & Grits, or Duke's Chocolate Cake. One of the traditions my friends and I have is whenever we're together, we split a dessert board (totally worth it!) and sample our favorites along with Acre's new dessert options. 10/10 would recommend for special occasions, anniversaries, or if you're just passing through Auburn. read more

We celebrated our wedding anniversary with Sunday brunch. The Sunday brunch menu is rather limited, but you can also order from the regular lunch menu. We experienced two wonderful meals from the regular lunch menu. My wife had the Chicken Fried Chicken ($15) with mashed potatoes, sawmill gravy, and sauteed green beans. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection - flavorful and crispy, The mashed potatoes were prepared with the jackets, but were nonetheless very smooth. The (whole) green beans were prepared al dente. I had the brisket meatloaf with mashed potatoes, shoestring onions, and potlikker green beans ($17). The meatloaf was the best I have ever had - firm (but moist) and subtly spiced. But please be aware that it is topped with bbq sauce - that is not for everyone. The shoestring onions were lightly breaded and crispy. The potlikker green beans are cut green beans cooked with bacon. Yummy! My wife had a pineapple mimosa ($8) from the Sunday brunch menu, while I had a cocktail ($12) that I couldn't find on the online menu. Portion sizes are so generous that we skipped dessert and took home leftovers. The total bill (including tax and a generous tip) was less than $75. Great value for a meal of this quality. Acre remains one of my favorite restaurants in the Auburn area. read more
