I was going to start this review by saying that nostalgia can't help everything when it comes to a place from my past. I was originally going to say that nostalgia should take you back to your youth without having to deal with the youth that are now frequenting this college watering hole. But I decided when it comes to 17-16, I can't find anything else wrong with it besides having to deal with college students. But you know what, when you have a great "college bar", you really shouldn't expect anything different. Therefore I will let nostalgia from the bar I loved in college negate any of those negative thoughts. Although, I'm sure our group stuck out like the old alums that still hit the bars when they are in town. What makes this bar a great college bar? First of all, the bar runs on both sides and there are always plenty of bartenders. Making it very easy to get a drink. Not to mention college town prices are AMAZING. Also because of this wrap around bar concept, it keeps people flowing in a "lap walking" form. So even though it gets crowded, it doesn't feel that claustrophobic. There is also an outside area in the back. So if you want to get out of the crowded bar, this is usually pretty wide open. Would I frequent 17-16 if it were in my hometown? Probably not. But when I do my once in a blue moon visits and know what I'm getting in to, I can't think of another late night bar in the loveliest village on the plains. read more

The bartender was a total ass. He cut me off after a lousy 5 tequila shots and 4 vodka sprites on my girls birthday. One gentleman defecated all over the sinks in the bathroom and cleaned it up with his bare hands! Nearing the end of the evening (2:30 am) a rather large young lady tried seducing me. I came in on my 21st birthday and, after announcing I had just turned 21, asked the bartender to make a drink of his choice. He responded in a bored tone with, "Well...I don't know what you want." I responded, "I'm totally open! It's my 21st birthday!" He said, "I don't know what you like." At this point, a fellow bartender asked what was going on, so I said, "I just turned 21...could you make me ANY drink of your choice?" And he responded the same way as the first bartender. This was SO disappointing and such a let down for a 21st birthday celebration. I might could understand had it been a busy evening, but it was early in the week and the bar was completely empty. I was one of the only ones standing at the bar...DO NOT waste your time or money for a special occasion or a fun evening. There are better places in Auburn. read more

Went to this bar for drinks and a good time. Played bingo and won a speaker that was stolen by the staff!! They have no integrity accused me of stealing it, when confronted they had no ground to stand on! The DJ at the time was very confrontational and when all the evidence was shown to him that it was won fair and square he said the cameras were not in working order!! Even with all the photos and videos taken I was still accused of stealing it, even though it was handed by the very DJ that said the accusations. Moral of the story it was a 100 dollar speaker that was not worth the trouble but would avoid this place at all cost!! Would give zero stars if I could!! read more

We discovered 17-16 during the homecoming rain delay. Popped by for a quick beer and ended up watching the remainder of the game. It was not busy that night, so we were able to get a seat and there are plenty of tvs for the games. Bartender was fast and friendly. Bathrooms were gross and out of toilet paper. Now, for a college town I get that, but it was 7pm and the bar was relatively empty. This is why I'm giving 3 stars. It's clear that no one is spending my effort on cleaning here. Just walk through and flush the toilets. Put out some paper and we would be all good! Overall, a nice quiet spot to grab a beer. read more

This always seems to be my best option when in Auburn. It's always crowded, but never too cramped. The inside bar is huge and wraps around, so you can easily get a drink, no matter where you are standing. There's also a large patio if you want some fresh air. Apparently, they've planted some replica Tommer's live oaks out there, though I didn't step outside to see them on my last visit. During football season, they do a live analysts show from here. If you don't have a ticket to the game, definitely check it out from 17-16 read more

My favorite bar in auburn. Good drinks and very friendly bartenders. Usually less packed than the other bars and isnt filled with underage children like Qs and Bourbon. Yes is does get crowded sometimes and yes 98% of the people in there are in college. You are in a college town so dont expect any different. read more

Finally a bar in Auburn that is popular enough to still have some space to walk. The back area is a nice place to really relax and not have to worry about being shoved around by less sober individuals. This place never gets crowded enough for you to worry about being pushed around. There is a pleasant back area that has live band music playing on the weekends. Luckily for the drunchies (drunk munchies), Little Italy and Moe's BBQ is conveniently across the street and in perfect walking distance for those in heels. read more

One of my least favorite bars in Auburn. It's nothing in particular but I just never have a good time here. Drinks are more expensive for apparently no reason. It is one large bar that covers both sides of a long rectangular room, even though it really is one room they must have made this bar from two existing businesses so it feels very separated. I never know which side to go to and to get out back and to the outside bar you have to squeeze past the pool table... This is never fun to try and do and if the bar out back is closed, well then you have to do it all over again. I was in Alabama for training when I decided to meet up with some army buddies in Auburn after a rodeo. I'm from NY so this was all new for me but we went to this bar and it was a ton of fun. Soooo many pretty girls and its easy to talk to them with my Yankee accent. Everyone was super friendly including the bar staff. Nothin bad about this place. Great time! read more

Went to 1716 after tailgating for the first time. It's an okay place but it felt like friggin amateur hour. Noone seems to be able to hold their liquor. Drunk ass sorority bitches lol. The drinks are dirt cheap( well to us new yorkers it is), and the music is good. I probably won't be returning unless all of the other bars are too packed. read more

Maybe I am a little biased since all of my friends are bartenders/bouncers here. But the service is always great and the atmosphere isn't half bad. Live music on the deck during the summer is always a plus and the drink specials are pretty good. If you get lucky and hit it up on a night the owner is drinking it a damn near shit show. 1716 is by far my favorite bar in Auburn. It's relatively small and not oversized like Skybar, and even though there's only one bar, the bartenders are always quick and attentive. After trying a Grateful Dead at every single bar I've visited, 1716 has the best - perfect in color, alcohol content and taste. The bartenders don't do a shoddy job. Plenty of places to sit. My only complaint is that there isn't much room to dance, and the crowd is mostly Greek (but it is Auburn, after all). They usually have some music playing or a DJ on the weekends. Unlike some other bars downtown, it's very clean, especially the bathrooms. They have great drink specials. Love 1716, it'll always be my first choice of bars in town. read more

It's kinda cool if you're 19 and want to drink, I guess. It's cramped due to a bad layout, the bartenders who are slow, and the crowd is predominantly underaged. It was fun as a freshman, but all in all its the bottom of the barrel as far as Auburn bars go read more

Nice place during the week. Enough people that the bar doesn't feel empty but not overly crowded. Weekends are a bit crazy so if you don't enjoy crowds I would probably avoid Friday and Saturday. Prices are a little high, but it's one of the better bars in aubun. read more

I also heard this was a fabulous hang out for 30 something married males who were having a sexual identity crisis & not sure whether to go gay, or well, whether to go gay. Very gay atmosphere, indeed. Very original name for the bar. Must have taken years to think of that one. Classy. read more
