Able gets an A+ from start to finish from me. I received an estimate from another company that didn't sound quite right (they asked me to tell them how many rooms in our house and any significant pieces of furniture and based an estimate off my responses), and decided to call Able. They sent Shawn, who walked through the house, did his own estimate of how many boxes we'd need, how long the packing would take, and how long the actual move would take, instead of leaving to me. Most important for our family was the allowance they made for us to store our things on the truck for two nights, because we had to close before we could move in to our new place. On the packing day, three people showed up to pack everything carefully and professionally and quickly. On moving day, four guys showed up and packed that truck the gills. Then, two days later, the same four guys showed up to unpack the truck. This made box and furniture placement easy in the new place, a since the guys were already familiar with the furniture placement in the old house. In addition, the guys were very good about asking for clarification on where things went (Thanks Noel, Max, Rob and Anthony), and helped me unpack the contents of an additional storage pod. Moving is stressful but Able brought it down to a manageable level. I recommend them without reservation, and would call them again in a heartbeat. read more

The proof of a good move is when you take delivery. We were packed out by Able two years ago when we went overseas; the overseas part went very smoothly. Now we have returned to the Washington DC area and needed to go into items that were maintained in storage by Able so we could separate items that we wanted to take out of state. Able's team were superb at assisting -- courteous, helpful and good natured. The supervisor allowed us to borrow the blue wrapping blankets that were on many of the larger items that we pulled out. That made the whole process much easier when we loaded a few hundred pounds of goods into a rental truck and drove it to New England. Abel's packers had helped us load, and they did a great job -- we suffered no damage on the two-day trip. The Abel warehouse was well organized, clean and efficient. My husband and I recently moved to northern VA from Roanoke. They did a great job, from packing our items to delivering them. The latter was hard because there is no elevator so they had to carry items up 3 flights of steps. Helena was helpful with setting everything up. We also have to reserve parking for the moving truck and she was able to do that with the county. We will definitely hire them for any future moves. read more

We recently used Able Moving and it was a great experience! The crew called on their way and when they arrived started immediately. They worked incredibly fast and packed and moved my townhouse in one day (9:30 - 5:30). We labeled our belongings with different color dots and I made signs for each room with the color and what it meant. This made everything run smoothly. Able was fantastic for our local move, but the storage in/out was terrible. On the front end, they left with three crates abs called me that they had 5 for storage (increasing the fee by 40%!). On the back end: They took things apart to load them, but didn't put them back together. Boxes were put in the wrong place. Fragile boxes look like they've fallen off the truck. And I don't want to talk about my washer/dryer. Two of the men were decent, the other two stood around clueless. So disappointed. read more

This was worth every penny. Customer service here is high touch and I talked to the service coordinator several times before the actual move date. The crew was SO CAREFUL with our stuff and wrapped everything meticulously (even if I said they didn't have to). They were all friendly and were tolerant of kids getting in the way (without running anyone over!). It was incredibly hot the day we moved and everyone was in good spirits regardless. It was pretty painless overall and I didn't have anything to worry about, which is impressive given how stressful moving is! We used Able to move from Northern VA to New York City. We also moved some of our possessions into a storage unit. Able performed this move with ease. The driver and assistants were great. The price was reasonable. The truck arrive in NYC on time and everything was unloaded and set up in a timely fashion even though the walk in was a little long and there was only 1 elevator they could use. Super service. Best moving experience that we have ever had. We moved from Virginia to Texas. The truck arrived when they said it would, and the team was extremely efficient. The packing was first rate; not a piece was broken or misplaced. When they unpacked the truck it took them 15-16 hours and they worked without a break, then got into the truck and started back for Virginia. A couple of supermen. I highly recommend Able for any type of moving. This company has moved me several times but they aren't the company that they used to be. My recent move was the worst. Our estimate was significantly different than the actual cost. Our credit cards were charged without authorization. Everything we owned was damaged. Nothing was wrapped or covered. They charged 18 hours for a move that a previous Able Moving and Storage team and JK Moving did in 5 hours. They smoked while carrying items which left ash burns on wood and upholstery. They played on the dollies, dropped and kicked boxes. They stacked heavy items, even lawn equipment, on top of fragile boxes and items. PLUS we were verbally attacked by the manager who also threatened to declare our items abandoned and refuse delivery if we did not pay in full in cash within 45 minutes. AND the moving team sexually harassed me based on my pregnancy and intentionally and recklessly endangered my high risk pregnancy. When we attempted to address issues with the customer service manager, she lied and manipulated us into signing a settlement for physical property damage and then claimed that it included the other issues of breach of contract, negligence, sexual harassment, and reckless endangerment of a fetus. I wish I could post photos on Yelp or had more room to give more detail information. read more

Able did a great job delivering and unpacking our items. The entire team was very hard working and very careful with everything. We recently had our wood floors redone and the entire house repainted; the team took special care to make sure they didn't damage anything. We really appreciated their diligence. They were also very nice, making sure we were happy with where items were placed and helping us to ensure that all of the furniture placed on the wood floors had the appropriate pads on the bottom. We used Able for packing and moving. Packing went smoothly but the move did not. Movers dropped out entertainment center and (we discovered later) also broke a casserole dish. Mover took picture of the damaged entertainment center and said to report a claim. We did for both items. 3 weeks later Able responded they owed nothing to us due to the type of insurance we selected. It is a shame that companies will not even cover damage that was obviously their fault. Terrible customer service. read more

Review: Able Moving and Storage, Inc., 8050 Wellingford Drive, Manassas, VA 20109 We contracted with this transfer company to move us from our home in Falls Church, Virginia, to a new retirement residence in Richmond, Virginia. The move took place over two days, April 11 and 12, 2018, as scheduled and, as advertised, with the same crew in attendance at both ends of the whole procedure. The business was about 98 percent satisfactory but left us dealing with the last 2 percent for over three months afterwards. The issue arose with the damage caused during the loading process. One of the lads packing up furniture items leaned a 60-pound marble coffee table top against a solid cherrywood china hutch, only to have this heavy item slide down the front of the hutch and split into two irregular parts. The damage to the cherry wood was evident as well, though it was subsequently rubbed out and polished with no noticeable effect. In addition, the moving crew wrapped up a "lady's desk" for shipment, but not before locking the center drawer in this piece. At the receiving end, the key to this desk was missing. Nowhere was it stored in an open drawer or taped to the underside of the item. Fortunately, a duplicate key showed up after several days to resolve that problem. The crew placed all of the transferred furniture in the specified locations in the new residence but left the issue of the broken table top for us to deal with. They actually moved the two pieces to Richmond, but then the foreman of the crew placed the carefully repositioned remains into a crate assembled for the purpose on the spot. This he left against one of the bedroom walls in the apartment. The tabletop was supposedly repairable, but a local granite and marble company quickly debunked that theory. After completing a claim form [online], we received a check for the loss of the coffee table, minus the $250 deductible built into the $35,000 insurance coverage we bought for the occasion. This settlement left us less than jubilant with Able's policy in dealing with this matter. Now there remained the question of disposing of the crate. After multiple e-mails to the original person who wrote up the movement order and contract, it became clear that Able Moving was going to do nothing to relieve us of this albatross in our limited living space. After 106 days [or 15 weeks, 1 day; or 3 months, 15 days], we gave up on this and scheduled the removal of the crate to the local county landfill -- for an additional fee, of course. Dare we ask Able Moving for a reimbursement here? CAVEATS 1. Approach any arrangement with a a moving company with skepticism and a hard-nosed scrutiny of the conditions of a contract, especially as it affects insurance for the 2. Document with photographs any damage or loss occurring the move. 3. Without issuing threats or resorting to abuse, hold the moving crew accountable for all actions and require the company to resolve questions arising from the crew's activity 4. Be aware that there is always other recourse to a company's "final" settlement of claims. A Small Claims Court will entertain suits with up to a $5,000 limit. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I concur with G.B. and Cindy L's comments. In addition to their experiences, ABLE now uses subcontractor movers (not even their own hires). Not one mover on my team of 3 could speak any English beyond a few basic words. This caused major problems as most items I did not want my belongings endlessly wrapped because this doubles the time (and thus cost) of the move. Since they didn't understand English, everything was endlessly wrapped, then blanketed, and then taped up over and over (even though I had already done the packing, wrapping, and taping to my satisfaction myself). So items I didn't care about were vastly overprotected at a huge cost to me. The wrapping and unwrapping of everything I'd estimate added 2-3 hrs to the move at $160/hr. I had only one item I really cared about, a large delicate heirloom sculpture piece that couldn't be wrapped due to the shape, so I tried to ask that 2 of them gently take it out by lifting it straight up. They nodded like they understood but no comprende, as I left the room one guy had slung it over his shoulder and banged it on the wall on the way out. I could not believe it...... To be fair, the movers did work hard. They were not lazy and did the job. So that was never an issue. The issue is they are told what to do beforehand and that is what they do, there is no real communication with the customer upon arrival to work out details, which is unacceptable. And don't even get me started on all the overcharging by intentionally NOT including "travel time" in conversation estimates (they instead tell you there is a minimum amt of hrs for the job, but don't tell you the travel time is additional and not included in the hrs estimate), taking forever to wrap things a million times you don't want wrapped, and then charging you $50 for the tape!?! When you question the charges and say these weren't explained up front, they call you a liar and say everything was explained and estimated perfectly. I will never use this company again, and I hope they go out of business. I urge you all to look elsewhere, you can do much, much better than UN-able moving..... read more

Our experience with Able Movers was not a favorable one. Would not recommend them. We had many broken items, which they did pay to fix. However our bill was double the estimate and they said they would give us a rebate, but never did. Their customer service is terrible. read more

I was very happy with the crew that did the physical move but the packing crew was horrible, even malicious. When we started to unpack our first thought was that the packers were just stupid but as we continued to unpack it became clear that they intentionally destroyed items and went out of their way to cause problems. Every silk flower arrangement was packed at the bottom of the box with heavy items on top. Why would you pack 5 right shoes in one box and the matching shoes in another box? Why would you pack the coffee maker from the kitchen with toiletries from the upstairs bath? Why would you use sweaters as packing material instead of using packing paper? We had daily prescription drugs clearly labeled "Do not Pack" that were packed and not found for 4 days. When my wife noticed the drugs were missing on packing day she questioned the entire packing crew and no one confessed to packing them. We found the box after 4 days with the "Do not pack" note in the bottom of the box. The packers labeled boxes as Rm 1 and Rm 3 but apparently didn't give the decoder ring to the moving crew so the boxes ended up in the wrong rooms. Box contents were labeled incorrectly such at "rugs and toiletries" while there was no rug in the box. My wife and I each have a sock drawer with carefully matched and folded socks. The packers dumped both drawers into one box and must have intentionally mixed them up. The list goes on and on and on ... When Able was first contacted with the complaints they insisted that it couldn't be. I asked an Able representative to come see for himself and when he saw the packing work he just shook his head. Able did take half of the packing labor off the bill but this really didn't compensate for the time spent without the prescription drugs or the hundreds of hours we have spent trying to sort out our belongings again. This can't be Able's quality standard or they would have been out of business long ago. read more

After I started unpacking, I started noticing things missing. In all I probably had about 5-6 boxes missing, everything from DVDs to clothes to kitchen wares. Yerlan and Diogenes were the movers that handled everything and they were great; very efficient and courteous. I also loved how careful they were not scratch any doors, walls, or floor. Able moving completed a small but interstate move for me and exceeded my expectations at each turn. They were not cheap, but after researching several other options including pods and both local and other national moving companies these guys' estimate came in at least $500 under the rest. Pods wanted nearly twice as much. The pick up at two different locations and delivery was coordinated smoothly; Connie was always super helpful at the main office and Rush, who delivered, could not have been more professional. I have been moved several times by different companies and would use these guys again in a heart beat. All the furniture was packed very carefully and Rush took meticulous care to be gentle with all placement of pieces not to scratch anything including the floor and took plenty of time to make sure each piece was exactly where I wanted it to be. This was my first time ever hiring movers for a move. I was moving from my one bedroom apt to a townhouse basement rental. So had maybe two rooms of furniture, a bedroom set and a sectional living room set and lots of boxes. i was putting some in the rental and lots of boxes in storage so it was a two stop move. first the booking was quite easy. i could do it all over the phone. the deposit was just one hour of service then the rest was pre authorized on my card day before the move. I booked a two man crew for three hours. and to my surprise they were able to do the whole move including wrapping my furniture and moving it to the new place and getting everything neatly stacked in my storage unit in literally three hours. I was amazed and felt a little guilty cause i really didnt have to do anything but watch and point to where stuff went. lol but all in all this was the best decision i made and when i am ready to move again i will definitely use their services again. read more

We are government employees returning from four years overseas and Able Moving and Storage had much of our furniture. They delivered our stored goods to our home on Saturday in blistering 100 degree weather (110 degree heat index). The Able moving team was outstanding. They were very friendly, courteous and worked within our parameters. They were EXTREMELY careful with the house we are renting and made it through the day without a single scratch. They took all,the trash away carefully and were upbeat abut some complicated unwrapping. And they did this all in the terrible heat and air quality. Their sales representative was very professional and actually encouraged me to obtain other estimates before considering utilizing their services. The four movers took precaution to ensure that our property was properly removed from our old home and placed in the new one. We recently moved and stored by Able. When we met with Able for the pricing they assured that all movers were back ground checked and reliable. Able had my trust, so we decided to go with Able. 4 months later we finally moved to our new house, many things went wrong. First of all, they did not wear anything to protect their dirty shoes so it stained my carpet. This is a BRAND NEW HOUSE we just built. But the most disgusting part is that when I finally unpacked everything I realized that few boxes are missing. One was from my bedroom, second box was from my kitchen. That box contained accessories from the kitchen and my expensive Cast iron pot and rice shaver. These were gifts from my mom. I spoke to Able and they said they spoke to the movers and they dropped everything off and am I sure it's missing. Of course, I am sure. I know what I packed and what's missing. They asked me to fill out a claim form and gave me 24 hours to fill out otherwise it's no good. Unfortunately, my internet service was not set up yet so I could not fill out the form. I should have counted all the boxes but I totally trusted Able and did not think that my boxes will go missing. I am so disgusted and mad. I basically paid lots of money and tip the movers well so that they can loose my valuable stuff...... Please think twice before you use Able. read more

Able Moving & Storage Inc. really came through for me! Recently retired and planning to move into to my newly built retirement home. I initially contracted with JK Moving to assist me with this move. There weren't any problems until moving day when John and his moving team arrived at my home. I have moved nearly 20 times in my life and have never experienced a more dreadful moving situation then I experienced with John, who tried to unnecessary charge me for packing, packing materials and actually ended up walking out on the job! When John with JK walked out, I contacted Able. The difference between JK and Able, could not have been more dramatic. JK's moving team was rude, insulting and after going back and forth with John for approximately 3.5 hours, who refused or could not understand simple instructions, Able could not be more professional and courteous. From the moment I contacted Able, they offered true customer service. Sandy performed her miracle when quickly scheduled a moving team to move me the very next day, this being a peak moving season, I was impressed! When the moving team showed up the next day, Kevin and his team were wonderful. Kevin and his team were friendly and from the moment Kevin arrived him and his team quickly resolved any problems, working with me vs. against. Prior to JK (John), walking out on the job, I really felt uneasy about them properly packing and caring for my possessions. With Able, I felt that Kevin and his team would care for my possessions as they were their own, and in the end, I had no damage to report. Because this move was scheduled last minute and Able only had one truck available the move took two days, but both days were pleasant as a move can be. I can't say enough good things regarding Able moving's whole team, other than, Able you should really consider promoting Kevin to a management position, because he defiantly displayed extremely good managerial skills! After receiving 4 quotes we hired able moving. They packed our home in Round Hill, astore it for several month then deliver it to SC once we find our new home. This review will cover the pack-out since that is the only service we have had so far in our contract with Able. Our home is 4 bed & 4 bath. We only packed out one bedroom set and no family, living or dining room furniture. We did pack quite a bit of heavy kitchen glassware & dishes as well has a garage full of tools for cars, motorcycles & a large floor jack. We were quoted 8500 pounds by Nick in sales but it ended up being 11,300 pounds once it was weighed so we were surprised at the difference & why we are giving 4 stars instead of 5 at this point in our experience. That aside we had a great experience with the packers. The morning of our packing day arrived with the packing crew of Belkis Martinez, Maria Coronado & Lisbeth Rivera arriving a couple minutes early. We toured the house & they got to work. These ladies are fantastic and alone I would give them 5 stars. They wrapped items well, moved quickly & methodically & worked well together. You can tell these ladies work together often & do so with ease. Luis Gonzales joined the team around 3:30 to help finish up. I don't think he wrapped items as well as the ladies, but when I mentioned it he started wrapping better. He was also quick & efficient & took my suggestion on wrapping in stride & followed my request. The team stayed until 7:30 to finish up the packing so everything would be ready for the crating team the next morning. We went over all that was packed & I signed for the work done that day. I received a call at 8 to alert me the crating team would arrive around 9:00, which they did. When the crating team arrived we reviewed what they were going to be doing., signed for the insurance at the start of the work then signed for the crating once the job was completed at 3:00. We have moved 20 times in 35 years and feel the service we received from Able for our packing was top notch. Their rates were in line with our other quotes, but their storage fees are about $75 a month more. Although storage is more their storage facility is climate controlled which was important to us. I'll write another review in a few months once our property comes out of storage & is delivered to our new home in SC. read more

From day one when I contacted the company to start the process, they were very helpful and made sure the packing process was smooth as possible, they arrived at eight am and left at eight pm not knowing it would take this long to pack all my stuff! No complaints came from them from being there so long. They were so willing to work it out with my second move dividing stuff that I can take with me to one bedroom apt and leave rest with my other stuff from the first move. I can't begin to tell you how unhappy I am with Able. My wooden floors were not fully covered. Three women, two who spoke no English and one who barely spoke English were sent to pack my belongings. Fortunately, my daughter is fluent in Spanish but there was still a lot of confusion. They were rushing as they had another move to pack after mine and every box from the kitchen is marked glass or china. I am still looking for pots. A large dish pack contained unwrapped frying pans, odds and ends of lids and was 3/4 full of packing paper. I paid for five wardrobes as I am renovating a house and knew I would not have closets for a while. Winter and summer clothes were to be packed separately in four wardrobes. Winter and summer clothing were jammed together so tightly into three wardrobes that I had to cut boxes and buy a clothing rack so I could unpack summer clothing. I cannot find the rack and tray to my toaster oven so it is useless. Cuisinart pieces were just thrown into a glass punch bowl. My daughter and I bought packing material and packed paintings as the women who were working for Able did not have enough material and did not know how to pack artwork. I had paid for wooden crates for three valuable paintings and they had to be made up and delivered the next day. I just discovered damage and a piece missing from an antique chest of drawers. The moving men were great and did a good job considering the fact that they had to finish the packing the day they came to put my items in the truck. I could go on and on but think you have the gist of what happened to me. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more
