And then demanded payment via Venmo before unloading the truck. My husband had to get people to come help unload because they were moving so slow. Oh, and they damaged the floors in my townhouse. I recently hired Vanguard to move a dining room set from a private residence to our residence 6 miles away. I talked to several moving companies and received estimates. I went with Vanguard who was not the most expensive or the least expensive. I really liked the attitude and personality of Jennifer who I spoke with. She is very personable and pleasant. Everything was arranged, the movers contacted me the day before and the morning of the move to let me know their status. They were on time and very pleasant and careful with each piece of furniture. There was one setback initially before the move began. There was a misunderstanding about the estimate that I was provided verbally and written. I was informed that the estimate did not cover the tape needed to secure the moving blankets around the furniture to keep it from being scratched. After discussing with the office manager, we eventually came to an agreement that I would not be charged additionally for tape as it was not previously discussed. This was a good decision from Vanguard. I deducted one star because of the frustration of dealing with that. There is a 2 hour minimum plus cost for the truck. The move took less than 1.5 hours and would have been less without the initial delay on tape discussion. That being said, I would use their services again but this time I know. I had a detailed yet changing Excel sheet of my inventory with which she quickly generated an estimate on her end for me. Because of my desired timeline and late request, I didn't confirm with VanGuard. HOWEVER, I wanted to share that Jennifer was excellent to work with. She is extremely responsive and transparent. Also, as a woman, I appreciated that she wasn't condescending like some of the men I communicated with from other companies. I will definitely keep her in my contacts for future moves. LOL at the response to my review 5 months later. Should have just left it alone. Now I'm going to reply with screenshots that prove the business is lying. This company cancelled my move at the last minute and it cost me $938 more to hire a different company at the last second. After I left my original negative review, Bauer called me to apologize (which I appreciated). He asked me to send him the bill for the company I used instead and he would try to see if he could make up the difference or maybe reimburse me partially ($938 is what I paid more b/c of their last second cancellation). I never asked for $2k as he claimed in his reply to me. After I sent him the bill, I never heard from him again. Also, I didn't book with a broker. I booked directly with this company. Look at the screenshots and email address I was communicating with. I have more emails and text messages to back it all up, but I'll leave it at this for now. Aggressive Behavior and Damaged Property Last month was my 2nd time using Vanguard Moving Company, and I do not recommend anyone use this company ever. They are unprofessional, unscrupulous, damaged hundreds of dollars of my property and exhibited aggressive, intimidating behavior towards me. The first time i used Vanguard was in Sept 2019 for a full apartment move. The move, led by employee Saad, went very well and the company's customer service was excellent. Based on this experience, I scheduled them for a move last month with three stops. The quote estimated about 7-9 hours of work for up to about $1290. The move was led by a staff name Bauer (it looks like he is a manager there based on their Yelp profile) and went like this: -Arrived and began move more than 1 hour late without notice of late arrival (me and my boyfriend had to call to inquire where they were) -selected a truck too small for our items despite me emailing a detailed list items to be moved beforehand -re: the above, 1/2 way through the move, one of the movers told me the truck was too full and they'd have to go get another one. You can imagine my frustration. I spoke to Bauer and told him if this was that case, I'd like to confirm I won't be charged extra for the time needed to get another truck. All hell broke loose from there. Bauer stepped close to me and started screaming at me, yelling that 'he's a professional mover who's been doing this for years' and to 'shut up, don't tell me what to do'. As a woman alone with him in the apartment (the other two movers were at the loading dock and elevators) and fearful he may become more aggressive, i backed away and told him he should not, under any circumstances, speak to clients like that and that I had a right to ask about the truck size given what his other staff shared. He later apologized and the move continued. -boxes labeled fragile were placed under heavy items or were poorly secured in the truck causing them to fall and break (see pics) -the truck was indeed to small and my items were mishandled, squished and damaged -broke one of my TVs and several dishes (see pics) -the movers were very slow and used illogical tactics to unpack the truck causing delays. Total time to move took almost 12 hours, final move costs? $1,550.00. I was yelled at once again close to the end of the move when we inquired if they could move any faster as we only had the elevator reserved for a limited window. Don't even think about being able to get a reimbursement for damaged items. I called post/move and spoke with Saad, who now works in the office, to detail the numerous issues and request to paid for the damaged goods. He apologized on behalf of Bauer, promised he would speak to him about his behavior and would reimburse me, once I emailed pics and receipts, which I did. To date I've called, emailed and texted several times with no response. None of this is normal or acceptable treatment. Please beware and proceed with caution if you use this company. read more

This is a great moving company. We moved in March 2024 from Old Town to about 40 miles away in Maryland. They were clear, collected detailed info for an estimate, Followed up, showed up on time, protected doorways and floors and were careful with my stuff. The actual move ended up taking less time than the estimate, and I was charged less. They were polite, and thorough, and cleaned up after themselves. Great experience for a move. Scheduling movers with VanGuard Moving was easy, efficient, and they did a great job. We hired a crew of theirs for a labor-only job to help us load up a POD that I had delivered to our home. I had gone back and forth with VanGuard several times with regard to the date of the job, since we had some setbacks, and they never gave me a hard time about it at all. And then were eventually able to schedule something for like 2 days out when we were finally ready! I really appreciated their accommodations and attitude about scheduling. As for the actual moving crew, Dennis, Vladimir, and Paul arrived exactly on time, worked super hard, were very efficient, and in general it was a totally smooth experience. I felt as thought they packed and moved our items with care, and they were serious tetris masters in being able to fit as much into that POD as they did. I was so impressed, we have a lot of stuff! We are planning on hiring VanGuard again to help with the rest of our move after our house sells, and I would handily recommend Dennis and his crew for any future moving needs you may have. read more

My experience with VanGuard was fine, but not quite the 5 star service I was expecting from the past reviews. Booking was easy, and I wasn't required to put down any sort of deposit. However, I also wasn't given much information - just the time the movers would be coming. I moved on a Monday, and the movers were supposed to arrive at 9 AM. I got a call at 8:30 AM that they would be later, which ended up being 9:45 AM. This was slightly problematic given that I could only reserve elevators in my old building and my new building for a select window, but luckily my building was willing to be accommodating. The movers were told that my apartment was a studio, even though I had specifically said it was a one bedroom when I booked. They were efficient at getting most of my stuff out of my apartment and into the truck, but they weren't the best at making sure none of the small pieces that were needed to put my furniture back together got lost. I had two small components that went missing during the course of the move, and that I will need to replace. They did offer to replace these parts, but I really thought they shouldn't have been lost in the first place. That is the kind of attention to detail that I thought was lacking. I was also charged extra for a TV and mirror box, which ended up just being an old cardboard box that they put over the moving blanket. These boxes had clearly been used before, and hardly seemed worth $25, so maybe do yourself a favor and provide your own. I chose this company based on the good reviews and the price quote. I ended up paying double and there was definitely some attention to detail lacking. Nothing got broken or ruined though, so it was overall a success. read more

I stand corrected, all the reviews are true. The team at VanGuard Moving Express - Denis and two other amazing gentlemen - made the most stressful day in my year a breeze... and they went out of their way to help. How so? Three professional movers who can maneuver any corner and carry 10x their weight. The distance - they went to our storage unit, apartment, and then our home, without a hassle. Dedication - these guys started at 8:30 AM and worked until 9:30 PM with a 30 minute break to eat. That is inhuman. They did all this with a smile on their face. To top it off, they are nice, cordial, and finished with a smile on their face. After they got done moving it all - I was surprised to find that they all have unique stories that have led them here to the United States, they are all in fact highly educated and sociable! Finally, price. If you want to save money - you should save money, get something that is economical. Know full well that you might have your valuables damaged and the move might not be the best. Having never hired movers before I was a little nervous as I wasn't sure what to expect but VanGuard far exceed my expectations. From the moment I requested a quote the team was fast, courteous and professional in answering all my questions. They were very accommodating and called the day before the move to check in and make sure I didn't have any other questions. On the day of the move the team of Saad and Rudy showed up and I cannot say enough about these two. They came before the appointment time to do a quick walk through and ended up calling in a bigger truck to accommodate all of our furniture. Once they walked in, the two of them went straight to work and didn't stop until the move was complete. I have moved many times as a military family and until now, I've never had a moving company I would recommend. From the beginning VanGuard was quick and responsive, even if they couldn't take my call they would send a text and get back to me. All costs were explained upfront, they gave options IF I wanted to add (boxes, etc.), provided ways I can help save during move and MOST important...no BS charges at the end of move (swear this always happens to me). My move was during the recent holiday and I was not as prepared (packed) as I thought I would be. These guys came in and just made it work without hesitation! I definitely appreciated (without having to ask) they took their shoes off every time coming into the house..running back & forth every time! I wanted to update our review because we got our stuff shipped to us in California. Bauer was amazing to communicate with throughout the entire process. We had a few things that had minor damage that we noticed once everything was unpacked, but Bauer truly went above and beyond in making it right. We would highly recommend Vanguard because Bauer is someone you can trust. He really cares about the customer and is absolutely wonderful to work with. I felt like several other companies we looked at quoted us way higher prices or just seemed untrustworthy. A company's true colors come out after they've been paid and then an issue occurs. We noticed the slight damage on some of our stuff after we had already paid the movers. Bauer was still communicative and compensated us for all of our damage - much more than insurance covered - just to ensure we were happy at the end. They were speedy, efficient, courteous, and went above and beyond, helping to fix some furniture and move a big rug down from the attic from my first location (which I hadn't originally asked for but they did it with no worries). After shamefully goading my friends to help me the last two times around, I decided I ought to finally go back to being an adult and use professionals for my latest cross-town move. This time I did a bit more planning and research ahead of time, and I am glad I found and settled on Vanguard. The two-man team wrapped my furniture and other bigger items in pads/plastic and moved all my belongings from storage to my new home in about 3.5 hours. Admittedly I could've done some more prep to cut down on time, but I was willing to pony up a little extra just to avoid the headache and get it done in one shot. There are extra charges for tape and wrap, but I was happy to escape for about $250 less than when I've used other companies, and the service was definitely on par with the competition. The quote/reservation process was quick and easy--their responsiveness was one of the reasons they got my business in the first place--and the movers arrived on time. This was my first time using professional movers in the DMV and I was really impressed by the other reviews along with Jane's promptness with answering any questions I had. Their quote was well priced and it was easy to arrange the appointment. Unfortunately, the actual move was less than pleasant. They were more than two hours over schedule resulting in us paying more than $200 more than what we were quoted for. The movers were polite but definitely didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. They broke my desk and didn't offer to reimburse me for supplies to fix it. They also dissembled my bookcase and left me to reassemble it. I found a couple stray pieces of hardware in the floor and I'm still trying to determine what pieces of furniture they belong to. read more

Wonderful response time , easy to schedule , very good value , polite , and professional. I had a short move of of some furniture for my brother in law, but no way to do it myself or my husband. We had a sectional, a few other items and a Queen mattress. We had the two guys and a truck for three hours. There is an additional fee if they have to rent a truck. They were so quick to load the truck , of course most of the things were pretty much still wrapped from the last move we made, that we asked for and they graciously moved a couple things around in our house. Once the apartment complex opened, they then went to do the delivery to the apartment. They were very polite and fast, no dragging of their feet to extend the hours, or anything like that. Vanguard moving team is amazing! They also do customized quotes based on your moving projects no matter how small! I had to move a heavy dresser in the neighborhood and they made it happen!! The work with your available time, I had to schedule the same day afternoon and the staff were super nice! Originally I reached out to several local movers and they all wanted to charges 280+++ for my small order, and they did it for only $180, two strong men, and a big truck!!!!!!
