This place by far has the best hansik (traditional Korean food) and bunshik (Korean snack food) in this area. The owners and service are so friendly. Food comes out so fast and is always fresh and steamy. They never skim on the ingredients or the (complimentary) side dishes and everything tastes great! My personal favorites are the donkatsu, budaejjigae, and beef rib soup. Would highly recommend to anyone trying to find tasty Korean food! read more

Duluth is heaven for all those searching for Korean food. This place is legit for all the jjigae aka stews you'd ever want. The banchan are ok, nothing special. The one docked star is for the service-it's super busy at all times and even when you push the call button, often you're left wondering when they will come by. Not fancy. Children running around. Good food. Slow service. In a strip mall, like everything else. read more

I don't know if it was an off day for them, but i had totally different experience from all the other yelpers. I came here with 2 workers and they ordered the all you can eat Gamja tang while i ordered the single portion of it. The restaurant only had us and one other table in the whole place but had 5-6 workers/server and the owner sitting in the back seat. They do bring a lot of different kind of banchan for the area. But the service is non existing. By this I REALLY MEAN THEY DON'T know the meaning of service. Only one of the works was working while all the others chat and talked with the owner even after we pressed the button for service and you could tell she was a new girl since she was taking orders from everyone. (to bad she wasn't our server since i think she would do better then the rest of these people) The gamja tang here is what i would call MSG Bomb. Mouth felt very cotton and dry and sleepy. Thought it was just me since i am very sensitive to MSG but my workers was feeling the same or worse. I bet they was since they had 2 servings of the gamja tang. Either way won't be coming back again. (I felt bad for the new worker that i slipped her an extra bill tip before leaving.) read more

This place is legit. Meaning, when I go to A-Hyang, I truly feel as though I am in a Korean restaurant. Everything from the décor, the wait staff and, of course, to the food, make me feel I am getting a true Korean dining experience. I've had their Kamjatang, but this last time I had the yulmoo kimchi naengmyun (cold noodles) which is only offered during the summer. I'm not sure what other Koreans may think, but in my opinion, this dish is not for the Korean food novice. It was so friggin delicious. So cool in my belly on a hot humid day. I even took a picture of it and sent it to my mom. A-Hyang is definitely on my I-will-go-so-many-times-I-lose-count list. read more

I'm a bit torn about this place. I rounded it up to 4 stars as I wanted to give it a 3.5 (there needs to be half star options for rating). The first time we went, Superjjang, Hihi, and myself all got mool naengmyun (cold noodles) and galbi. The naengmyun broth had a good taste; wasn't overly sugary (like a lot of places I've been to) and it seemed like they actually used in-house made meat broth instead of the instant frozen broth many places use. They gave us a lot of banchan (my faves were probably acorn jelly with soy sauce, soy sauce cooked potatoes, tea eggs, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember now but there's about 12 or so banchans on the table) and the service was pretty good. The second time I went, I went with my friends who were from out of town. We ordered bulgogi jungohl (bulgogi stew with glass noodles, mushrooms, onions, beef broth) and a jjampong jungohl (spicy seafood [small octopus, giant clam, mussels, something else I can't remember] stew with udon noodles, and bok choy). I thought the bulgogi jungohl wasn't as good as a few other places I've been to; the trick with bulgogi (if you cook it at home or eat it at a restaurant) is to sear the meat with high heat to make the bulgogi delicious. A lot of times, I've seen friends and family botch bulgogi at home due to cooking either too much meat (overcrowding the pan) in a frying pan or trying to cook bulgogi in an unheated pan. Both just boils the meat and its just not... good. Sure, a few boiled meats are great but bulgogi just isn't one of them. We asked for more broth later on and it was complimentary which was nice. The jjampong jungohl was probably one of my faves but holy shit, it's so spicy. We were all slamming down our Hite beer to soothe our palates. I think this would be really good with either soju bombs or soju (don't forget to make the KYAAAH noise after taking a shot of soju). Definitely ask for less spicy broth if you don't love Indian hot or Thai hot. The serving says for 2 but definitely can swing it for 3 with maybe some extra udon noodles. The smoothies are ok; it's pretty good since sometimes the restaurant is TOO hot inside (if it is, just order the cold noodles). I've yet to try the gamja tang but I'm sure I'll be back there soon. read more

It was a dark, wet, and cold evening. I was with my friend and we wanted something soupy. We decided to find a Korean tofu house of some sort and stumbled upon this place. It wasn't terribly crowded when we walked in. The restaurant was dimly lit, but we were greete immediately and seated. My friend ordered the beef cold noodles. I ordered the tofu soup. First, the tofu soup was delicious. It wasn't too spicy (for me), and there was a lot of stuff in it. It can be annoying when you order a soup dish and there's limited stuff in the soup. It came with a bowl of rice. Together, it was more than enough food for me! The cold noodles were interesting. First off, the dish was more bland than my tofu soup. I don't recommend ordering a large size unless you are super hungry--it's a lot of noodles. They put korean pear slices in the soup, which is a refreshing find when eating this dish. This is one of those situational dishes for me. I'd only order it if I were specifically craving it. There were many side dishes (that are free, FYI). Don't be shy to ask for more if you eat all of them. They had kim chi, pickled choy sum (which was new to me), bean sprouts, cucumbers, dried tofu skin things, and a few more that I cant remember, You pay at the counter. Parking is easy. Also, this place is right next to a White Windmill, so you can go there for dessert after! :D read more

Cute place, delicious food. Although the food is traditional, the decorations and ambiance is more modern than the average Korean restaurant. Don't let that fool you though. The food is authentic and delicious. During my visit, I tried the naeng myeon and the oh-so-popular gamja tang. The order came with a variety of side dishes (as expected) including: kimchi, spicy fish cake, and others (all delicious; I only remember those two, due to my obsession with them). The naeng myeon is a little different. I am usually not a huge fan of the cold noodles, but the one at A-Hyang is amazing! As someone who does not regularly eat naeng myeon, I can't really pinpoint the reason it tastes better. It just does. However, my date, who is a naeng myeon expert, explained that although it requires more seasoning on your end, it tastes better than the one at Jang Su Jang. All just opinions though, right? The highlight: gamja tang. How could I visit A-Hyang without ordering the famous potato/pork stew? First off, portions. Big. Especially with the side dishes available at the restaurant, I only had exactly half of my personal size soup and finished the rest for dinner the next day. I was extremely surprised by the amount of pork bone and meat comes in a single order. For $10? Not bad. I don't even know if I have to go into taste. It's just great. I think it is probably in the list of my favorite Korean foods to eat out (can't usually beat mom's cooking). Like there might be days that I pick this stew over KBBQ. Seriously? Yeah. Last note. Service was above average in my opinion. I had a lot of food leftover and asked for a to-go container for the stew. The server quickly brought over a container and a bag along with a full container of rice, so I didn't have to pack my dirty, saliva-ridden leftover rice. And even before I started to attempt pouring the stew into the container, he brought over a set of metal tongs to move over the pork bone before pouring the stew (I probably would have made a huge mess otherwise). Overall, a great experience with the food and the service. Highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going to somewhere other than Dan Moo Ji next door. read more

my go-to spot for buddaejjigae!! It's so delicious and PERFECT for a rainy or cold winter day! If you haven't had it before buddaejjigae is like ramen mixed with a variety of other mouth watering assortments like sausage, spam, rice cakes, and noodles. Also, I love their choice of side dishes! It's a good place to go with a group of friends to share the dish family style. Definitely recommend trying! read more

This is one of my favorite Korean restaurant in Duluth. There are two types of Asian restaurant. Super authentic(older generation like taste) & less authentic and fusion like taste( younger generation type). I like both styles of restaurants but all the food in ahyang is pretty good. There are lots of Korean restaurant that specialize on certain food( tofu soup, katsu etc) Even compare to those specialized restaurant, food in ahyang is comparably good for those dishes. It is not fancy and really easy going place but the foods are Seasoned well( not too salty) and service is great. Most of the Asian restaurants do not have good service, but not ahyang. Oh also, when you get the food to go(for pick up), they wrap up those side dishes for you as well. I thought that is very considerate and neat since most the Korean restaurant dont do that. Definitely one of my fav. Place to eat and get the food to go. read more

This place is my go to place for wang donkatsu. I can't comment on the other dishes because I haven't had anything else here other than that. The sauce is really good and compliments the dish. I don't care for the soup that comes with it and usually ask for it without. You can always reheat leftovers on the frying pan and it's still very tasty. read more

The focal dishes are among the best versions around: Gamjatang & cold noodles. Hurrah for specialization! No frills environment and mediocre banchan. Bokkeum dishes are unexceptional but the king tonkatsu might be a fun conversational piece, being the size of a small child. read more

Best quick sit down korean food! I always come here to grab donkatsu from them and the portion is just amazing for the price. If you're not looking for fine dining korean food. This used to be one of my favorite places. Gamjatang late at night w ppl, great atmosphere. The very last time I came here, A cockroach in the hamburg steak style tonkatsu. Cut off a piece, very first cut, had I not looked before putting the piece in my mouth, I would have eaten a cockroach that had been baked in. NO. read more

The food is good, but the lady who picked up the phone had an attitude and was very rude.

i don't have the stomach (literally) to go for all-you-can-eat gamjatang. i did, however, get some to share... and it was pretty awesome. the banchan was all pretty tasty (minus the kim chi.) once we finished the gamjatang, the server came back through and made some rice in the same pot.. and then offered to throw mozzarella in it. should you find yourself faced w/ this very question at any juncture in your life, the answer, my friend, is yes. yes, yes, yes, yes. the universe will fold inside out against you should you ever turn down mozzarella. it was awesome. that's just the way it is. rice and cheese. who knew. read more

If it weren't for the prices and how stingy they are with meat this score would be higher. $20 for galbi bibimbap with MAYBE $5 worth of meat is a bit off putting. Besides that, they have the best donkatsu, galb itang, and yukgaejang I've tasted. Their appetizers are delicious... yes I know they only have two on the menu, that's twice the yummy. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in duluth!! Most the time it's packed and the service is decent! Little price but they give big portions so it evens out. There food taste really good, I love their donkosua and jigaes. I love tofu soup so I get that often. The place is kinda old and a little tacky but overall the atmosphere is good. read more

I ordered the LA Galbi for lunch with some coworkers and new friends. The typical korean apps all came out and they were mostly okay. I have had better at Jang su Jang or Tofu House. The Galbi itself was a little tough but tasty. The seasoning was strong and I was a bit burpy after!! It was worth it. The service is quick, keeping your barley tea filled up the entire meal. They brought the check quickly when it was time to go. Their slushy machines are broken so we missed out on the usual post-lunch dessert but that's okay. I might drop by again, if I happen to drive by. read more

Visited A-Hyang for the first time on July 4th because danmooji was closed :(:(:( That being said, the food was just meh. We got the tonkatsu, boodaejjigae and the gamjatang. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't amazing either. I think there are many other places to go, especially in this area, for better quality Korean food. read more

I came here last weekend unexpectedly. I'd been crawling through yelp, looking for a good, inexpensive Korean place and settled on Dan Moo Ji. Getting there, found that it was undergoing extensive renovations. A-Hyang was a few doors down so me and my compadre went there instead. We were too hungry to protest. We were seated by some friendly young guys. The service was great and they helped us a lot with the menu. We decided on the Galbi stew. I actually didn't know it was stew when I ordered it... the menu descriptions are rough translations of the Korean names and don't give a lot of insight if you don't speak Korean. All I knew was that I liked GalBi. The banchan were standard but good. The kimchis could have been better I thought. The stew itself was scrumptious. Not unlike a traditional American beef or pot roast stew but much hotter and spicier. It had obviously been slow-cooking all day because the meat was really tender and already off the bone. It was also an incredible amount of food. For a two person meal, we were both stuffed (and really didn't eat that much of the banchan) and had plenty of leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day. Our server told us that it's traditional to fry rice with the leftover bits and pieces and eat that as well. YEAH OK. You'd have to be a competitive eater, famished, or sit there for hours to finish it all. After eating they packed up the left overs for us and brought us after-meal slushies!! Amazing. Maybe strawberry-kiwi flavor or something?? Either way it was a nice touch. A-Hyang is way too far for me to go to eat regularly, but I'll probably be back again some time in the future. read more

Loved the kamja tang here. Was delicious and hearty. The pork was really good. Also they gave a lot of side dishes (banchan) and they were all fresh. Service was really good but some of them don't speak English. If you get the kamja tang, they give you mixed rice at the end. So one serving is enough although I did get two... read more

The Mul-naengmyun and kalbi combo here is pretty wonderful. Also, recently I just ordered the gamja tang, which is a braised pork knuckle soup. The flavors are great and the meat is super tender. Naengmyun and Gamjatang are dishes the every day Korean family does not eat regularly at home. This restaurant is a reliable source for these dishes, and they satisfy cravings well! read more

I'm very torn about my review. I've had their gamja tang (pork/potato stew). donkatsu, and some of their soup dishes. Everything was delicious and they give you a replenishing fruit smoothie at the end. Service is excellent as well... HOWEVER, A couple months back while dining with my parents, I found a bug at the bottom of my salad and showed the server. The server brought it to the owner's attention and she did nothing about it. No apology, no discount, no acknowledgement and just went about reading her newspaper. The server came and apologized but I thought it was extremely rude. Haven't gone back since. read more

Ok, ok. I went back for a second/third (?) time and the service was much better, and food was still good AND the banchan was plentiful and delicious. So they get the stars they deserve.... (: And I recently tried their donkatsu (aside from my usual gamjatang) and it was SO GOOD. I don't know what is, but their tonkatsu was def better than Danmooji! I think it might be their sauce? One of the best donkatsu sauces I've ever tried. And I believe they marinate their pork (unlike danmooji because seriously their pork tastes so so bland without the sauce) read more

Let me start by saying that the food was good, my only positive comment lol. Let's begin with the LACK of air conditioning/ventilation. I've never sweated so hard at a restaurant before. I thought I was sweating out the calories I was eating. Moving on, the noise was atrocious. I mean seriously, it was so loud that the waiters had to yell; I thought I was at a house party. Don't bring your kids here, you'll save their ears. Additionally, it was so hot at the restaurant that the waitstaff were also sweating. It was really disheartening as they looked as if they were suffering. Last but not least, my last comment will be on the waiter who serviced our table. The kid did not look like he wanted to be there and was being a douche, I mean I get it; working in a hot environment along with that loud noise must make it hard to work, but the kid could've At least been less of a douche you know? Anyways, that concludes my review, go if you like the basement party atmosphere, if not, I would still order to go, and to go ONLY. At least until they fix their issues. read more

Wow!!! This place is like from the dramas... no joke, the guys and girls there are really into their jobs and roles, not sure who is the manager, but, my wife and I love to eat here and the Donkatsu is HUGE!!!! and the seafood tofu soup is really good. Yum! I've passed this place thousands of times before, and I finally stopped in with a friend for lunch. The restaurant is a totally different feel from the restaurant that was there before it. It's more bright with open seating. I found it welcoming for a nice lunch. We ordered this new type of donkatsu and boodaejjigae. This special donkatsu was very thick with a nice coating, so it was basically heaven in my mouth. Just as the menu states, I highly recommend it. The boodaejjigae had dangmyun inside, which was a much better substitution to ramen in my opinion. It created a lighter taste that didn't make me feel bloated afterwards. Loved it. The banchan variety was very accomodating too. The service was fast and friendly. I will definitely be back for more later on. read more

This place is my 2nd worst service I had in Duluth. The food was good, but the old lady server is very rude and she needs to get service training. she never come to my table once after serving the food. she doesn't even know I don't have water and side dishes. The old guy at the front looks like a owner is very kind, I just want him know of her service and get her trained. read more

First off let me start with the food...there was nothing wrong with the food it was actually very tasty and they brought it out pretty fast. I am giving this place two stars because of the behavior of the waitresses that worked there. When we first walked in, we were not greeted and rudely asked how many were in our party. As we sat down more people came in and they were welcomed with open arms and smiles on their faces. I believe they were like that only because the people that came in were Korean. The waitress never once checked up on us to see if everything was okay and never came to even fill up our water. We had to press the little button that was on the table for them to even bring us our check. The whole environment just made us feel unwelcome and we won't be back again. read more

Korean restaurant. To be honest, food is good. I think really good, but service is really bad. They never come to check my table. They are not nice. I think They have korean customers who want to have korean dishes and keep korean people coming, so they won't improve their service or serving manners. When I come to here to eat, food is greAt but I always feel no good service. If you want some korean dish, it's better to go other korean restaurant like Jang Su Jang or Others in duluth. read more

I usually get the donkatsu and budaejjigae at this restaurant. Portion of the donkatsu is huge. Can probably feed 3 people. Budaejjigae is good, except portion size can be too small for one person. Service is a hit or miss. It's best to come here with a native Korean speaker. read more

The yukgaejang and the tofu yukjaejang are pretty good, but the main dish my family always go for is the gamjatang (potato stew). It's the best gamjatang around town. It's clear that the soup/meat is cooked for hours - the broth isn't too watery and is the perfect amount of spicy. I like when they come and make fried rice for you with the remaining soup if I still have room. Most of the side dishes are also consistently good. read more

If you have time to stop by Nukoa plaza for whatever purpose, whether it be billards, the NRB, or the cute shops nearby, take time to eat at A-Hyang! A solid 4-star restaurant located next to what used to be a Morning Glory, it is one of my favorite korean restaurants in the Duluth area... and as you might know, there are a multitude of korean restaurants in that city. If you do happen to stop by and favorite fried foods, try the Donkatsu! This fried meat is one of their specialties - they became well known through the Donkatsu's tastiness. And if you happen to be extremely starving and have a bit of change to spare, you can upgrade this into the "Wang Donkatsu" (literally means King Donkatsu). Despite it being a favorite of numerous people, it is generally not really busy and it will be easy to find spots / have some quiet time. This place is more of a lunch / brunch - type place so it is good for eating with a small group. If you would like a casual 1 - on - 1 with somebody, this could easily be a nice place to have it. All in all, great and tasty place and would love to come back here again! read more

If you're looking for some good Korean food that's abundant in portion size and the price matches the taste, A-Hyang is the place for you. A-Hyang offers a variety of some traditional and non-traditional dishes. The service isn't the best, and the servers almost never come to your table if you don't ring for them, but the food makes up for what they lack. I would highly recommend getting the donkatsu and boodaejungol. The donkatsu is a fried pork cutlet and is served with their own home made sauce, side salad and rice. They have another donkatsu called the wang donkatsu (king fried pork cutlet) and it's about twice the size as the former, but also twice the price. Their regular donkatsu is big enough to share between two average people, enough to fill one big stomach. The boodaejungol (sounds like booty jungle) is enough to be shared between a party of people. Quick history lesson, boodae jigae is also known as army stew. After the Korean war, when food was scarce, people made use of the surplus meats and kimchi and made it into a stew. That is exactly what you get when you order this dish at A-hyang. A pot they bring to a boil at your table with lots of sausage, spam, rice noodles, veggies, rice cake, and kimchi. I like to order a side of ramen to put into the soup once most of the content is gone. Be sure to ask for more of the broth (free of charge) so that there's something for your ramen to boil in. To recap, food is good, service is okay. A-Hyang would be more accurately renamed as B-Hyang. read more

I recently visited this restaurant because I had read reviews that the food was good although service was bad. I had expected to not have my glass of water full all the time, which was fine for me, as I thought the food would make up for it. Me and my group of 7 or so were seated right away, but it took a while for a server to come to our table and take our orders. Once she had, our side dishes were brought out, which were pretty good. I really liked that they had fishcake, and their kimchi was pretty good. Then, the food started coming out. My table mostly ordered the soft tofu soups, whereas I ordered the budae jjigae. Most of my table had their food, which for the most part they enjoyed. I, however, still didn't have my food, even though it had been around 40 minutes since we ordered, and almost everyone had their food save me and another in my party. It took almost an hour for our food to come out, one budae jjigae and one soft tofu soup, and by that time everyone was done eating so we just took it to go. The restaurant wasn't even that busy during this time, so I'm not sure why this occured. Also, only one of the servers seemed apologetic about the situation, the others didn't care at all. TLDR; While the food was pretty good, the service was awful, and for that reason, I won't be back. read more
