The Doeji Gook Bab - Pork soup with rice on the side. Comes with chives, minced peppers, dadaegi (red pepper paste), and shrimp sauce

Went here again today for a second time. I got their pork soup, my mom the blood sausage soup and my dad their hangover soup with blood cubes. I have to say that I have never had pork soup and didn't know what to expect. So I have no idea if it was good or not. I can say that it was a bit gamey - for me anyway or maybe I'm just a bit sensitive to gaminess in food. I had to ask for extra salt, dadaegi, minced pepper to have the taste to my liking. I can say it was chock full of meat. They are definitely not skimping on that! My dad's soup I didn't get to taste but his was also full of meat and blood cubes. He also had to add a lot of dadaegi, minced pepper and some salt to get the soup to taste better. My mom's soup for some reason was not hot and didn't look like it had a lot of blood sausage in it. It was also accompanied with chives. No matter how much extra seasoning she added to it, she couldn't get it to taste right. She decided to take the leftovers home to give it a complete makeover. The waitresses are nice but in a sort of passive aggressive way. They seem bothered to give you extra condiments and then ask you "I guess you're done with these now? So I can take them?" A little mean, but whatever. They do give you lots of radish kimchi and cabbage kimchi - with are pretty tasty for restaurant quality. Their raw Asagi peppers dipped with the mixed soybean paste is yummy. I am not sure we will go back. The soup (well my dad's) definitely doesn't taste like it used to. My mom says she thinks the cook changed, which is definitely a possibility. M-F there are a few dishes that are on their lunch special for $9.99

    Sundae (Korean Blood Sausage) Soup

As a frequent guest here, I always, no matter what, order the Korean blood sausage soup. It's the best I've ever had compared to other restaurants nearby. The quality of the food is always consistent and never fails to comfort my cravings. I have never seen a change of staff, and have always received amazing service. They always check in and see how my food is, and if there is anything else I needed, whether it is more side dishes or water. At the end of each meal, they give you some complementary yakult, a yogurt drink, with your check. I've seen some Korean restaurants do that, but not many. The price is also affordable, comparing to other restaurants, and also depending on what to get (but still affordable) I hope this place lasts because this is one of mine and my mom's favorite places to go for some Korean blood sausage soup.

    Famous 돼지국밥 (Pork Soup)
    Xavier K.

Don Soo Baek (돈수백) restaurant has a striking resemblance to ToDamGoal (토담골) restaurant, which I frequented while living in New Jersey. 토담골 was renowned for its 돼지국밥, and the flavors were absolutely delightful. The hearty soup had a knack for satisfying hunger and rejuvenating my body. So, when 돈수백 opened its doors some time ago, I was quite excited. Its taste closely mirrored my experiences at 토담골. The name "돈수백" translates to "Eating reliably cooked pork and enjoying a healthy life up to 100 years old." This name embodies the restaurant's commitment to culinary excellence. However, I was genuinely surprised when I noticed the restaurant's relatively low Google review rating. I couldn't fathom how such a place could receive a less than stellar rating. Upon some investigation, I uncovered two primary reasons. First, 돈수백 should consider focusing its menu solely on "pork" dishes, in line with its name, which relates to pork-based items like 돼지국밥 or 해장국. It was evident that most of the negative reviews stemmed from non-pork items such as 냉면 or 왕만두. Streamlining the menu to center around pork dishes might help elevate their offerings. I'd also recommend that customers try 돼지국밥, rather than venturing into other menu items that can easily be found in other Korean restaurants. This specialization could further enhance the dining experience. I thoroughly relished the 돼지국밥 today, as always. The thrill of adding 부추 to the steaming 돼지국밥, along with the marinated sauce and chopped pepper, was an adventure for the taste buds. The bowl was generously packed with slices of 돼지고기, perfect for dipping in the 양념새우젓. And, of course, combining the entire bowl of white rice with the 돼지국밥 was a must. To top it off, their 깍두기 and 겉절이 were exceptional. I savored every last drop of the soup and every grain of rice. This is how you savor the good life.

    Kongguksu 콩국수

Korean restaurant that specializes in soups and stews. You'll notice tables spread throughout the center area and also individual rooms containing seating for more privacy. I recommend getting Kongguksu 콩국수..! It was very refreshing. Things you should know: I. PARKING Don Soo Baek is within a plaza and shares parking with the adjacent businesses. You'll always be able to find a free, available space. II. SERVICE Friendly and timely. III. QUALITY This is where my rating is 3 stars. Keep in mind 3 is average ~ not superb and not terrible. While the food is authentic, the prices, in my opinion, are high for the lack of meat quantity in the dishes. You can get much much more protein for the same price in Korea and less "filler" items. My future Korean father-in-law kept mentioning how disappointing that detail was with my 북어국 dried pollack soup. It slacked in fish. IV. CAPACITY Fair amount of available seats for a weekend at lunch hours. Show this business some love and visit.

It has been good whenever we go. The soup is not as thick as when it first opened but i think its still good for a quick soondae soup. Service is fast and ambiance is typical korean restaurant.

Taste horrible, not a authentic Korean food. We're tried several food, all food worst ever I ate. Don't waste your money.

    Steamed dumplings
    Yan Z.

The worst steamed dumplings I've ever seen and had in my lifetime... they looked like being soaked in water prior to being put on the steaming rack. It also took them like half an hour to save these from the water... we've almost done eating everything else when they finally served these tragic dumplings. Won't ever visit again.

Don Soo Baek is located inside the McDaniel Square shopping center in Duluth.

Don Soo Baek is a Korean restaurant that specializes in traditional soups and stews; hot pot, casseroles, and other family-style shareable entrees; noodles and various snacks such as dumplings and pancakes. This is a place you visit when you want Korean comfort food, stuff that will warm and fill you up with a made-from-scratch, home-cooked quality. The restaurant opened in 2013 in McDaniel Square in Duluth, the shopping center with Honey Pig, MJ Korean Tacos & Wings, Naru Japanese Restaurant, Orange Coffee Bar, and Kung Fu Tea. Don Soo Baek has other locations in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and Chicago. I really like this restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is good. This is one of those Gwinnett County Korean restaurants that caters to the metro Atlanta Korean community. There is little English to be found in the restaurant and on the menu. Every dish has an English translation, but the descriptions are poor. For example, one of the dishes is listed as "Variety of meat (pork) with pork broth." There are two dishes that share the exact same English name (the Korean text is different, however). Confusing. The staff's English isn't great, so unless you're Korean, with a Korean, or are familiar with Korean cuisine, you might have to take a flier on some of these dishes. Fortunately, everything I've tried here has been tasty, so you have nothing to worry about. They offer about 15 different types of individually sized soups and stews. This isn't so much a tofu house (like So Kong/Gong Dong or Book Chang Dong) because most of the soups and stews aren't sundubu jjigae (tofu stew). Rather, they're heartier stews that contain ingredients like pork, sausage, ox blood, mackerel, and chicken. Note they do not serve seolleongtang (ox bone soup). Each soup/stew costs about $10-15. There are hot pot dishes designed for 2 or more people, each priced around $35 and up. These "hot pots" are stews made with a variety of ingredients including pork (neck), chicken, beef, potatoes, and different vegetables. Family-style sides include sundae (Korean blood sausage) and pan-fried pork belly, squid, octopus, and other seafood. Expect to spend roughly $30 each for these plates. About 10 different noodle dishes are available. Some are "seasonal," though I suspect they're full-time fixtures on the menu, such as the mul naengmyeon ("Homemade noodle with cold beef broth"). Noodle dishes run about $10-12 each. An interesting looking dish on the menu I haven't tried is the "Spicy sea snails salad." Using the restaurant's English menu names, I've tried the following: * Pan-fried, flat shaped dumplings * Steamed, king-sized dumplings * Variety of meat (pork) with pork broth * Korean sausage and pork meat with pork broth soup * Pork and rice soup * Dumpling and sliced rice cake with broth The dumplings (mandu) are great! Each order costs just under $10 and comes with 4 huge dumplings. I'm talking massive, particularly the steamed version. The steamed dumplings come in a bamboo basket with a soy-vinegar dipping sauce. The insides are packed with ground meat and minced green veggies. The pan-fried dumplings are flat and wide with delightfully crispy exteriors. Delicious. The three pork soups I've tried are all very similar. They use the same milky white, pork-based broth. The difference is the parts of the pork that come with each soup. I like the "Korean sausage and pork meat with pork broth soup" the best because it comes with the most meat including blood sausage. There are two items on the menu that are listed as "Korean sausage and pork meat with pork broth soup." If you order the more expensive version, you're served a "combo" plate on the side that includes slices of steamed pork belly, pork liver, more blood sausage, and some spicy radish. If you're hungry, go for it. The "Pork and rice soup" also comes with a side plate of extras. It includes steamed pork belly, spicy radish, and another pork part I can't identify. It's sliced in thin strips, has a layer of skin, and is tendony. I'm guessing it's pig ears. Whatever it is, it's yummy. The blood sausage ("Korean sausage") is terrific -- plump and hearty. The stuffing is coarsely textured and I find it to be very appetizing. If you order one of the pork soups, be sure to add the supplied scallions and plenty of sauces such as saeujeot, which is a salted and fermented mini shrimp sauce. The "Dumpling and sliced rice cake with broth" is pretty much tteok manduguk. The English description is pretty accurate in this case. Portion size on this soup is ginormous. Along with the same gargantuan mandu as mentioned separately above, this soup comes with egg, enoki mushrooms, and seawood. Very good! Banchan selection is mainly limited to kimchi (satisfying) and spicy daikon chunks. The restaurant itself is bright and clean with a casual atmosphere and semi-private, partitioned tables. The tables are outfitted with stoves for those dishes that require them.

"Why is this place so empty on a Saturday?" The answer is because this place disapoints for alot of reasons. Lets do an in depth breakdown of what matters in a soondaeguk jibe. LOCATION: The location is in an small strip next too other asian restaurants in Duluth. They are near an Asian community, so the location is good. KIMCHI: Their radish kimchi was disgusting. Not only did it not taste fresh, but was very sour and had an off smell and after taste to it. There is also no way to go refil it on your own like other places, but thats fine because it tasted like shit. The cabbage kimchi was okay though. FOOD: My wife had the Pork Bone Soup and I had the Soondaeguk. These guys don't even grind the wild sesame seeds nor offer the powder on the side. The laziness pisses me off. The slices of pork in our soups where ok, but the portions were very tiny. The soondae in my soup was also low quality. While the broth was fine, my wife noticed hair in her soup after a couple bites. This was the final straw. SERVICE: Not only did my wife NOT get an apology when we complained about hair in her soup, we waited quite a bit to get her new soup. The waitresses were also in the back the whole time during our meal, and when I had to get up to ask for assistance, they made it seem like we were bothering them (There was only my wife and I, 2 young guys, and an old man during our dining experience). PRICE: The soups were both 9.99 with tax and I felt pressured to give a tip, because they only came to check on us constantly as we were about done. You also have to pay for additional rice which is usually complimentary. OVERALL: Don Soo Baek, please get your shit together. Please get your workers, food quality, and act together. The only reason I left a 20% tip is because I know alot of old school koreans believe younger customers don't. Food for thought, its not wise to piss off your younger customers. We eat out more often and spread word of mouth faster, especially thanks to social media. STEP UP YOUR GAME! *UPDATE: Was curious and looked on the Georgia Public Health website to see their previous inspections. No good consistency and it seems they failed a bit back in march, one being lack of hairnets... Maybe old mistakes are coming back?

I came here with group of people.. (13ppl) It is great for big or small group of people. They are known for Soondae gook and dweji gook bop! ( & ) Usually the pork broth can have its distinctive smell however, the soup is very well cooked. It doesn't have the smell. It is 10.99 and it is worth the price. The food is served with different side dishes. The broth tastes so deep since itwas boiled for long time. I really enjoyed it. The staffs are pretty friendly. It is located near the mall where there are massage parlor, pc room, cafe and also it is near zion market which is so convenient. The restroom is clean and tidy but its funny how the trash can is right next to the toilet. Thank you.

When he got to the scallion salad, she was just not loving it, but he told her to at least try and see what she thinks (don't knock it til you try it!) Then he said they're still getting the charcoal ready so it'll be a few more minutes and my friend's eyes just (like what?) So we start with trying a bite of all the sides.
