I enjoyed the original Gopchang on Fire in Suwanee, so it was no surprise that I ended up enjoying Gopchang on Fire 2 too. For a satisfying, no-frills gopchang experience, Gopchang on Fire 2 gets the job done. I believe Gopchang on Fire is the OG gopchang restaurant brand/chain in Georgia. If you're unfamiliar with gopchang, it's Korean grilled cow and pig intestines. It's like Korean barbecue, from the in-table grills to the banchan (side dishes), but instead of beef brisket and pork belly, it's intestines and tripe. Unfortunately, just the words "intestines" and "tripe" are an immediate turnoff for a lot of people. To each their own. That said, if you're open-minded and/or the adventurous type when it comes to food, I encourage you to try one of these gopchang restaurants. I think gopchang is delicious and I've yet to be disappointed. If you've had intestines and tripe from other places/cuisines (e.g., Chinese, Latin American), throw those experiences out the window. Korean gopchang is different in almost every way -- taste, smell, and texture (more on that below). Set aside any preconceived notions. Don't knock it till you've tried it. Since I reviewed the original Gopchang on Fire in 2016, several gopchang restaurants have opened in metro Atlanta, mostly in Gwinnett County, of course. It's a good sign Atlanta can sustain at least seven gopchang restaurants now, by my count. It's really good and better for less-adventurous eaters. Gopchang on Fire 2 had a pretty streamlined menu. The combos are the way to go and then I suggest adding a side of rice or noodles (e.g., Kimchi Fried Rice for $4.99). Also, gopchang goes well with soju. The restaurant sold a few different flavors, priced at $12.99 per bottle. There were only two combos: A ($59.99) and B ($69.99). They came with the exact same things. The only difference was the portion size. Combo A was designed for 3 people and Combo B was designed for 4 people. My friend and I, just two of us, completely demolished one Combo A. It came with: * Gop Chang - small intestine of cow * Dae Chang ("big innards") - large intestine of cow * Mak Chang ("last tripe") - upper lining of last stomach of cow * Tuek Yang - upper lining of first stomach of cow * Yeomtong - cow heart Everything was yummy. Unlike the intestines I've had at a lot of non-Korean restaurants, these tasted very clean and lean. No unpleasant smell or odor and not overly fatty or oily. The fat was trimmed off, which is one thing I appreciate about gopchang. They prepared it well. The organs were seasoned and/or marinated. The small intestine was stuffed with ingredients like garlic. Yum. We got two dipping sauces: sesame oil with salt and Korean soy sauce with chopped bird's eye chili. The latter was subtly sweet. Overall, I thought all of the intestines, tripe, and heart had savory, appetizing flavors with various firm and chewy consistencies. In general, the first stomach is the chewiest and it only gets chewier the longer it's on the grill. Banchan, with standard free refills, included spicy chives, spicy pickled onion and bell peppers, spicy cold mung bean sprouts, and kimchi. I will say, aside from the chives, the banchan was a bit lackluster. The quantity was there, but the quality was not. None of the dishes were bad. It's just that the competition is very stiff in Gwinnett when it comes to banchan freshness/quality and variety. However, I'm not complaining much because the meal we had was reasonably priced. As is customary at Korean barbecue restaurants in Atlanta, our food was cooked for us at our table by the servers. We visited on a Tuesday night and there were only two young ladies working the front of the house. The place got decently busy - maybe seven active tables at its peak - and the servers stayed on top of everything. They were nice too. Great service. This is a small, humble, old-school restaurant. First time eating Gopchang in the US. Usually eat it with friends and family when I'm in Seoul or Suwon, but it was pretty good with friends when we ate here last Sunday. We got there around 6 pm and the place was already packed, but we were able to get a private dining room without a problem and didn't have to wait. We ordered combo B and it was plenty to feed the five of us. Side dishes were tasty even though it was limited options, had really good service, and the best part was that they had Hite beer which is my favorite Korean beer, so the somaek tasted better than usual. Overall: different type of BBQ spot that serves different parts of the intestine and stomach. Really good flavors and service. Highly recommend this restaurant. The place is a little hard to spot if you happen to drive past it since it is kind of tucked away into the corner of a tiny shopping plaza. We luckily accidentally stumbled upon it looking for a different place and the smell of the food magically made us sit down and forget that we were headed to a different place for dinner. The menu is nice and simple. I think there were maybe 10 entree choices at most. We went with one of the combos, which came with stomach, small and large intestine, and heart. The table is a pretty standard Korean bbq type with the grill in the middle. They seem to have a decent selection of soju to choose from too. The cuts appeared fresh and the server came by to turn, cut, and let us know when the different cuts were ready to be eaten. Came here on a Good Friday and must say that I was in for a treat. I didn't realize I was a fan of Gopchang until I came here to Gopchang on Fire 2 in Duluth, GA. The quality of their gopchang is high and makes the experience of eating gopchang very fun. To say that gopchang is an acquired taste, I must say that is somewhat accurate as the meats you are eating including intestines and such which may make some hesitant to try, but once you realize that their meat options come in variety, you'll see that trying their new foods is quite a treat. The meats come with 2 sauces, one sesame oil and salt, and the other a green pepper chili soy sauce which go very well with the meats. TIP: Try dipping the meats in both sauces. The servers are highly skilled in their craft and will cut the meats up well for you so they are in bite sizes and easy to eat. 5 yelp stars and 2 thumbs up. I was honestly not a fan of Gopchang on Fire because I just liked Hwangso Gopchang a lot better, but I recently gave this place a chance and I had to say I was impressed! Some impressive points that I noticed - they finally have the injeolmi powder! You have to ask for it separately but that's what really differentiated Hwangso over Gopchang on Fire so I was very impressed. I realistically want to give this place a 3.5 - the gopchang was very soggy and looked a bit old. Don't mind me bc I was in South Korea just a week ago eating very fresh gopchang but anyways, it just seemed off. I am also a fan of the circular daechang vs. Gopchang on Fire's daechang so there goes some points there. Overall though, it wasn't a bad dinner and the fried rice was really good as well. We ordered a bunch of combination gopchang to-go, as well as 2 ordered of kimchi fried rice. We fried it at home and enjoyed it tremendously. Just be forewarned, the grease is quite smelly and my basement smelled for a week, until I found out that the grease was kind of caked over my table. My suggestion is use a disposable tablecloth. Enjoy the gopchang. Throw away the tablecloth. They have this soy sauce type sauce that you can drop jalapenos into, and it's really tasty to dip your gopchang in. my first gopchang experience and I loved it! We literally walked from the pig's feet place next door to this place just to try a taste of what they had to offer. They have a self check temperature machine you use before seating. The place is kinda small and they are trying to social distance so if you have a big group it may be a wait or awkward seating. We shared: - gopchang (small intestine): when it comes out you automatically know that this is intestine LOL. It's snake-like that they roll into a spiral onto the grill and cut as they get crispy. Your first bite will be hot only because there is some juices on the inside of the intestine that seep out when you chew it. The restaurant requires that you sign waivers since the intestines are charred on the outside and require cooking at home. The sauce...with the thai chili peppers are required and should ask for extra if you like your sauce spicy...the "salad" or we call boochoo moochim is a necessity to enjoy the gopchang. I remember the first time I had Gopchang I did not enjoy it at all. But for some odd reason my boyfriend and I were craving it. So we decided to come visit this restaurant thats a couple minutes away from home. The outside parking for the restaurant is pretty limited due to it being part of a small plaza. As soon as we entered the restaurant we were greeted by multiple employees and seated right away. Looking at the menu you can order sides, drinks, and either combo A or combo B; including separate meats if you would like. Although it is kind of on the pricey side we decided to order combo B, because we felt very hungry. Our waiter quickly took our order and brought out our side dishes and soup. We also ordered 2 bowls of rice each (gotta have rice while eating meat!). A couple minutes after we got our sides, our waiter brought out the meat and began to cut and grill it for us. The meat looked DELICIOUS. While waiting for the meat to finish cooking we started to try out our sides and soup. The soup was very flavorful and the sides tasted very fresh. Finally, when the meat was done cooking we ate the darker meat first which had a very chewy texture. Then we ate the meat that had the spiral shape. This for me was my least favorite due to it being very bitter from the stuffing on the inside. The last meat we ate was very tender and probably was my number one favorite. A little known fact. Organ meat has some of the densest amounts of vitamins and nutrients your body needs for sustenance. It has all the good cholesterol your body needs (psst... don't let the "experts" fool you into fearing fat, your body is 90% cholesterol anyways!!! The FDA and vegans really don't know what they're talking about!!!) and there are plenty of fat-soluble vitamins your body gets easier than your food pyramid schemed 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day supposed requirements. So the more meat/animal products you consume that are high quality sourced stuff, the healthier you'll find yourself in terms of nutrient intake and that is intake, the kind that your body will use (not just what's on paper). That being said, I was hungry and needed protein. Being an avid fan of trying anything and everything once, I wanted to get a good feel for what Koreans love eating on the streets and everything I watch, from the businessmen to the k-pop girl groups all love eating organ meat and being Korean, I knew I had to!!! If K-pop idols eat intestine meat, then how am I any better? So I Yelp this place. The first Gopchang on Fire had too long of a wait so I opted for this place which was about 7 miles away so not too far of a drive. Upon entering in, you definitely smell meat! It's small but not as small as their original location as Gopchang on Fire 2 has walled off rooms for larger parties compared to location 1 which does not as it's an open sprawl. The specialty here is organ meat. Pure 100% organ meat. Mainly from beef. They offer beef small intestines (gopchang), beef large (dae chang) intestines, the upper lining of the cow's last stomach (mahk chang), and the upper lining of the cow's first stomach (teuk chang). They also offer pork intestines as well on top of various Korean street food favorites just as spicy ramen and fried rice. The cool part of this place is that this is the Korean version of a tapas bar but not quite so small in terms of portions like tapas. You drink and you eat innards. But the flavor is dynamite! The meat is rich with no off-putting smell as in you would never know you're eating the digestive tract of a barnyard animal. Complete with Korean side dishes to cleanse your palette. Overall, this is a fantastic place!!! I wish I could give this place 5 stars as there is one drawback to this place and I have a feeling that it's the same with their first location. Price. You really can't eat alone in this joint as they require you have to order two servings or two meat options. Their intestines are all $14.99 plus tax and if you're eating alone, you HAVE to drop well over $30 by yourself which is why this place is a must come with people to split the $15 price point and if you decide to drink a little, expect to shell out more money. I'm not a fan of that as you should be able to order one thing first, and if you decide to eat more, then price it accordingly but to force a lone patron to purchase two options at full price is a bit steep and I'm not a fan of that. I really enjoyed the food here and the service. I think we got lucky because there was no line when we got there and were seated right away. We ordered the combo for 3 people which was combo A. It had a combination of gopchang, daechang, makchang, and yukchang(?) or something like that. Generally, if you've tried this type of food before, you already know soju goes really well with it. The server will come and cook, cut, do everything for you and let you know which meats are cooked enough to eat. The place itself is small but all their staffs deal with covid precautions very well. They have 4 or 6 tables in the middle but skip one or the other so the table won't be right next to each other and they also have 2 rooms on the left and I believe 2 on the right. Their menu is super limited to only intestine and only one beef item. This place is amazing with food and their kimchi fried rice at the end is good as well. I have been looking for a decent grilled gobchang and this place opened!!! Yay!! The restaurant is small so unless you come when they just open, you likely have to wait for a bit. I had set A and it's has 4 kinds of intestine which is good variety. It's enough for 3 people. Pros: Gobchang is not smelly at all! That's the hardest work -get rid of the intestine odor. Seasoning is good too! Also the server will grill it for you Cons: no venting! So you will smell like grill intestine after ward. Also they don't change the grill when it's bned, the server use a piece of wet paper towel to clean it and continue to grill. By far the best korean dae chang place in ATLANTA. Dae chang is "on point." The texture and the sweet marinate literally melts in your mouth. When I'm in Atlanta and crave for Kbbq, this isn't the place I come to; I usually eat beef brisket or pork belly kind of Kbbq. However, this day, I came with my two Korean friends and this was their favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Though I never had good gopchang, or porks/cow intestine, I decided to give it a try. When I entered, the restaurant wasn't as big as I thought it to be; around 10-15 tables? Because they mainly sell intestine, I believed this place was more for Koreans and Asians. We ordered two Dae Chang (large intestine of cow, $14.99x2) and one Gop Chang (small intestine of cow, 14.99); my friend didn't like gopchang, but ordered it only because it came with yum tong, which I think is heart. The side items we received were spicy bean sprout salad, kimchi, chives salad, green onion kimchi, and spicy tofu soup. Two sauces we received were tangy soy sauce with pepper slices and salt, black pepper with sesame oil. My friend recommended me to add more slices of pepper to the soy sauce, because it makes intestine less greasy. Other friend enjoyed eating gopchang (also referring daechang in my review) with a slice of pepper. the gopchang came with slices of onion, potato, and king trumpet mushroom. The amazing servers walked by to bring our food, refill our side items, and to cook all the items. They constantly walked by to make sure we had everything we needed and flipped and cut all gopchang. I wasn't familiar with eating such greasy part, but the soy sauce and the chive salad really helped me enjoy the meal. When we were done, we ordered two Kimchi Fried Rice (3.99x2). I have been to this place and the food and service was excellent. Their website says they open 4 pm to 2 am, 7 days a week. Last Monday I drove over 100 miles to eat there, only to find them closed, with a small sign on the door, saying closed on Monday's. Update your website!! Thanks, but you just lost my twice a month business. No problem, I found a better place down the street, Cho Won. They sell the same as you and more and all you can eat, for only $29 per person. read more
