This is our family go-to for special events, birthdays, Mother's/Father's Day, Easter, etc. The quality of the service and food have always been excellent. We've been coming here for over a decade. We went here again today to celebrate a family birthday, and noticed that we did not recognize any of the former staff members. Not sure if management/ownership has changed hands, and as a result the staff and team members have also changed. The reason for the 3 stars: The service was slower and generally not to par than previously: Although the order was taken upon everyone sitting down, the food (banchan, rice, and mains) came out out of order. We ordered 3 appetizers (gun mandu) and several mains. First, only a single order of mandu came out along with a main soup. No banchan and not rice bowls came out, so the person ordering the soup that arrived with the first order of mandu had to wait. Then the banchan arrived but still no rice. So again, we sat and waited. After yet more time after, the rice finally arrived. It took more time for the second order of mandu to arrive. The waitress apparently put in the mandu orders at different times? Huh?! Don't orders get put into the kitchen all at once per the order sheet? The rest of the mains arrives. So finally we all start eating. Half way through, the third order of mandu finally arrives. Rather than comping the late two orders of the mandu, they offer up free sodas. We decline. I can understand for new management to still be dialing things in, but they need to provide better oversight over protocol. For Korean restaurant standards, the banchan always arrives first and usually with rice, so patrons can start to indulge in food (rice and banchan) while the mains are being cooked. For any proper restaurant, appetizers should arrive before the mains, NOT AFTER! If a mistake is made, take ownership and fix it, usually by comping the items they made the mistake on - in this case the two of the three orders of mandu! Overall, the quality of food is still on par, but the management/ownership needs to take better control over the service. We have been regular and loyal patrons of this restaurant, and we generally want local businesses to succeed and stay in business. However, given today's less than stellar service, we may have to pursue other Korean restaurants. This is unfortunate since the location of this restaurant is convenient. We all drove far OTP, all the way to Duluth really just wanted to get hold of Tiger Sugar. But we were far too shocked from seeing the lines looping around the store and behind. We were not going to head back to the city and I suggested to everyone we could check out the Hmart here. One of us said we could even find a restaurant in the area. We agreed and parked at the Hmart parking lot. Then another suggested we could check out the Korean bbq restaurant that looked like a huge restaurant from the outside. The staff greeted us upon entering, spoke to us in Korean, and took our temperature. Looking around, I realized almost all the patrons were Koreans. This definitely was a positive sign, meaning the place would not be too bad and legit. The staff led us in and seated us in a room. Woo-hoo!! One of us said they must have thought I am Korean. I said can't be, Korean girls are fair and pretty. Another staff came, greeted us and gave me the menu while speaking in Korean. Realizing I do not speak Korean, she spoke in good English. We all decided to opt for the unlimited kbbq. The same staff went away and prepared the meat. SERVICE 5/5 The same staff actually was going to be the one doing the grilling for us. She was super nice, very attentive and helpful. I like her service way more than those I encountered at Ms Gogi and Kfactory bbq. Maybe those staffs were younger and more aloof. This place has changed over the years but at the end of the day, still a solid old school Korean BBQ spot that does the classics right. Galbijjim (both sweet pumpkin and regular) very tasty. Seollongtang is good (not the best but not the worst) and the doenjang jjigae has just enough funk. My family's been coming to this place for a long time, and for a trustworthy reason. Their Korean beef kalbi (rib) is seriously the best in Georgia. I've been to good Korean bbq places in LA and Manhattan, but this place serves the best Korean beef kalbi. Cleanliness of the place and quality of the foods are top notch, and their staffs are ever so friendly, even during their busy hours. Our server (one in picture) was so wonderful, grilling the meat for us with superb skill, bringing the extra side dishes happily whenever we asked. As much as the food was phenomenal, the server was phenomenal, and she served my family a wonderful Friday dinner we deserved. Thank you so much. There are so many terrible Korean bbq places where they rip you off with cheap quality meats, terrible service, and unsanitary environment with overexpensive price. But not here. I came here on a Tuesday night at 7:30pm and it was pretty empty. My boyfriend and I sat at a grill table. Our waitress was super nice. We ordered the Galbi and Dolsot Bibimbap. For the Galbi, since we only ordered one barbecue item, they cooked it in the kitchen and brought it out to us. So if you would want the full experience then you have to order two meats. They didn't serve it with the steamed egg or soybean paste stew either for the same reason. The Galbi was sooooo flavorful and cooked to perfection!! Very meaty and only the bones had a lot of fat on it. The Dolsot bibimbap was also very good! The rice on the bottom got very crispy which was my favorite part. For the price I think it was very worth it. At the end they brought out a cinnamon tea with our check. It was kinda sweet and the cinnamon flavor was strong (which I'm not a fan of) but I can see how other people would like it. Chung Dam is a traditional Korean restaurant located in the Super H Mart shopping plaza on Pleasant Hill Road. If you're facing H Mart, Chung Dam is on the right. The storefront sign advertises sushi, sashimi, and (Korean) BBQ. This restaurant has been around for many years and is not a bad choice if you're looking for a Korean restaurant with a well-rounded menu. Along with Korean cuisine, Chung Dam also serves sushi. There's a sushi bar inside. Speaking of the inside, this restaurant looks surprisingly nice. The interior features a lot of woods, from floor to ceiling. The atmosphere is more elegant and "upscale" than most Atlanta area Korean restaurants. I'm talking chandeliers, ornate artwork and furniture, various plants for decor, and British leather doors. Seating consists of a variety of semi-private booths and rooms (many with TVs) with tables of varying sizes, along with out-in-the-open tables. Looking at the place from the outside, you wouldn't think all of this would be in here. The menu has a lot to offer and can be overwhelming if you don't know what you want. The sushi menu is basic, but respectable. You can find most of the typical nigiri selections. Rolls (including hand rolls) and sushi combos are available. Non-sushi Japanese items offered include donburi (rice bowls), teriyaki, and tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet). Most rolls are $10-15 each and most nigiri will set you back $5-7 for every two pieces. They have some massive sashimi platters that cost as much as $250 (!). The bulk of the menu consists of a wide range of Korean food such as Korean BBQ, naengmyeon (cold noodles) and other noodles like japchae (translucent noodles), assorted pan-fried or braised meat and seafood dishes, guk, jjigae, and tang (soups and stews, including tofu soup), hot pot, grilled whole fish, and rice dishes including bibimbap (Korean mixed rice). Expect to spend roughly $10-15 for the simpler soups/stews, noodles, and rice dishes and $20+ for BBQ and some of the more elaborate or special entrees. I really like the banchan (Korean side dishes) served here. They have banchan I haven't seen anywhere else in Atlanta such as dried shrimp/prawn and a particular type of chopped and marinated, deep green seaweed. The seaweed tastes fantastic as do the other banchan dishes such as the kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, and tofu with spicy sauce. Additional banchan include pickled daikon radish and pickled and spicy cucumber. I love kimchi and Chung Dam's kimchi has become one of my favorites. It's not too sour nor too spicy. It seems to have struck a near-perfect balance of flavors for me. The kimchi has more color (green) than typical kimchi (mostly red) and isn't soaked in sauce. Some might consider it too "dry," but I like it. Some dishes I recommend include the dolsot bibimbap ($13.99), galbi gui ($23.99), and japchae ($14.99). Dolsot means "stone bowl," so the bibimbap (mixed rice) is served, still sizzling, in a large stone bowl. After this dish is served, the rice still cooks at your table because the bowl is so hot. The rice eventually sticks to the bowl and becomes crispy/burnt and that's usually the best part. I notice Chung Dam's stone bowls seem to be wider and shallower, meaning more surface area to produce yummy, crispy rice. The bibimbap comes with a side of gochujang (red chili paste) which you can apply liberally on top. The idea is to mix everything together. Other ingredients included are shredded carrots and daikon radish, mushrooms, bean sprouts, cucumber, seaweed, one fried egg, sesame seeds, and ground beef. It's hard to go wrong with galbi gui -- marinated Korean BBQ short ribs. It's good almost no matter where you order it. One thing that's great about Chung Dam's version is they serve their galbi *off* the bone (except for two end pieces, which is partially used for presentation). Most Korean restaurants serve it on the bone, which can be annoying sometimes. I also notice that Chung Dam's marinade is a little sweeter or richer, which is OK. The galbi gui is delicious and mouth-watering and I highly recommend it. Japchae noodles are clear, slippery noodles made from sweet potatoes. These noodles are soft and are usually served as a side dish, though I think they work quite fine as an entree. The noodles are stir-fried with pieces of beef, seaweed, cucumber, scallions, carrots, cabbage, and fungus. I say fungus because that's what I grew up calling it, but it's a type of dark-colored, fluffy, "leafy" mushroom. The entire mixture is cooked with a slightly sweet sauce and sesame seeds are added on top. It's a simple tasty dish that's light yet filling at the same time. Service is fine. If you ever need service, there's a button you can press at your table to call the attention of the servers. All of the tables have this button except for the free-standing, "out-in-the-open" tables, so take note. read more

While Chung Dam scores for ambience & good service, the food is pricier and frankly in today's economy, a few dollars difference matters. Their galbi is very good but it's $19.99 (compared to $14.99-16.99 at other restaurants) and there's a 2-order minimum - the banchan could've been an opportunity to justify those few extra dollars but they were just so-so here. Honestly, I liked the banchan at Well-bean restaurant much more, and their main dishes are just $5.99 (for grand opening special). Gotta love the growing competition between Korean restaurants now - seriously just a few yrs ago, there was no good Korean restaurant in Atlanta. Besides 2 orders of the galbi, we also ordered Jap Chae Noodles (clear cellophane noodles & vegetables) for $14.99 & O-jing-uh-Bokeum (spicy stir fry squid & vegetables) for $13.99. The Jap Chae was good here but I would skip the O-jing-uh-Bokeum - while the sauce was tasty, and loved having noodles in that dish (nice surprise), the squid was really hard to chew. We had a non-Korean friend eating that dish for the first time ... far different from any fried calamari he'd had before. A lot of people like this place b/c of the ambience & selections but I know I can get the same food for less money elsewhere ... so the likelihood is low that you'll find me here anytime soon. Came here with a large group to do a farewell lunch for a coworker. It's located in a big shopping plaza, and parking was easy thankfully. I was surprised they picked this place, because other than having a more private room, I was really disappointed in the food. They give you plenty of sides, but was disappointed in the taste of them. The kimchi was just okay in flavor. They don't have jap chae, a big miss for me. Just didn't really care for the overall taste of most of the sides. They offer sushi, fish, other meats, and have a pretty extensive menu. I chose the chicken teriyaki, but it was just okay as well. The flavor and sauce tasted like it had a lot of corn starch in it, so I wasn't really a fan. I'm not sure if it has to do with it being too frozen that it watered down. The noodle itself was chewy and okay. For soon doo boo soup, they don't even ask you how you want your soup (spicy, medium, or mild). Banchan quality was good but in small quantity. Service was mediocre; servers made no effort to replenish our banchan or water supply. When I complained about the meat being undercooked, the waitress gave me the "so what" face. After stopping in here I realized that I had indeed been here before a few years back. Anyways with a clear head because I dont remember what I had previously I went for my Korean go-to. I got the Galbi which clocked in at $21 so I was expecting alot from it. Much to my surprise because everyone raves about the short ribs here, they weren't really on point. I had a couple end bones that had super tough impossible to eat meat on them. And it just wasn't a big portion to justify the $21 tag. First thing you notice when walking in is the classy decor. They incorporated the traditional Korean design with a touch of modern and it works well. There are signs of age but nothing that brings down the overall design. They have private rooms, which are pretty roomy and they each have a small TV attached that works out great for kids. The service is excellent. They greet everyone upon entry and are very professional with their approach. This place has professionalism down very well. The food was great too. We got the lunch bulgogi box ($11.99). This was the only downside to this place. The meat was exceedingly salty. I also would have preferred regular opposed to fried rice. It comes with 4 Cali rolls, 3 pieces of tempura, and a salad. Pretty good for the price and portion ratio. The sashimi box ($12.99) had the same sides. It came with about 6 pieces of sashimi, which is about all you should expect for that price anywhere you go. The sashimi bibimbap was very large and had a pretty good portion of fish. It is a little high in price though ($15). The sides were amazing. They offer variety and quality you don't commonly see at Korean restaurants. I really like this restaurant. It has both Japanese and Korean food, but it is Korean owned. It's located inside the Hmart plaza. I love how every table is secluded from the neighboring tables. We were sat in a room that had its own table and small television with korean channels on. I didn't get to try their sushi or sashimi because supposedly their sushi kitchen was closed even though it was 10:15pm, and they closed at 12am. We opted for the galbi. It's not the galbi that is like a short rib. It's one large bone with the marinated meat wrapped around the bone. The meat is marinated well and very tender. You also get little side dishes as you would in every Korean restaurant such as Kim chi, bean sprouts, radish and other various veggies. They also brought out an egg soup, rice and soybean soup(my favorite). The service was great! They cooked our meat very fast, but they told us there was no rush with eating. All the cooking was done for us. The only negative I'd have to say about Chung Dam is the pricing. It's pretty expensive. The galbi price is similar to honey pig's and other Korean BBQs, but their sashimi seemed very steep. Hopefully the quality is worth the expensive price. I will definitely be returning again! This place is located in the H-Mart shopping plaza. Sushi is great quality but pretty steep in price. Price is pretty average for their Korean BBQ, for example an order of kalbi for $22, including banchans. We had a private room for 8 people, which was a little cramped. Food quality was really good. My only complaint is that they use gas grill instead of wood charcoal. They seemed short staffed as all the servers were running around all the time. I had to step in a few times to cook the food otherwise it would have gotten charred. We had to ring the service bell at our table a few times to get refills on drinks and banchans. Best Korean I have ever had. My Korean friend loves this place and I tried it today. I know now why she likes it so much and will drive 30 miles to eat there. The atmosphere is amazing. They have many rooms and booths that are semi private. They also have a few private rooms. The spicey beef rib soupI had came boiling hot. It is so amazing I couldn't stop eating it. The normal side dishes were very cold and on stainless dishes. Even the water glass was ice cold just like I like it. The service at the place was super. It was an active Saturday morning but they have many waitress and staff. This place is a joy to enjoy. And I am not Korean. read more
