One of my favorite spots to go to when I need my Korean food fix! I usually do the BBQ and get the Galbi and an order of the Galbi-jimm (slow cooked beef short rib with veggies). When you do the BBQ they give you complimentary bowl of dang-jang jigae (soybean soup). We sat in a mini room on the sides and it was interesting that each of these mini rooms/booths had a small screen TV. We ordered a set menu that came with four main dishes. The food was overall good. My boyfriend and I recently return to Chung Dam for unexplainable reasons. I mean, it is unusual for people to return to a restaurant where they had a horrible experience. Nonetheless, there we were, anxiously looking through the menu, trying to order the right stuff. We ordered the Galbijjim served in Pumpkin and Ssambap. We were blown away! This is my favorite Korean restaurant in Atlanta. My family always bring our relatives here when they are in town. I don't come here as often as I did, but I forgot how good everything was. Yesterday, my mom, fiance and uncle ate dinner here. We sat in one of the private rooms which I like. Although the food is pricey, it is worth it in my opinion. For dinner, they start you off with a small salad of ice burg lettuce and ginger dressing. Then they gave us porridge and mul - (which means water in korean) kim chi. It is cold kim chi, almost like a cold soup. Then came out all the side dishes. I think we had about 8-10 sides. For my entree, I ordered bi bim bap. It's like a salad with roots and veggies and a little meat. Plus, they put an egg on top. Then you add your rice and hot sauce in it. I like it bc you can make it according to your taste. My fiancé ordered the dol sot bi bim bap. It's just like my entree, but in a hot stone bowl. My meal is cold, while his is steaming. My mom and uncle ordered soup with gal bi and roots in a dang jang broth (oo joo gal bi ji gae). It was also tasty. We also had a side of gal bi. I love the flavor of their gal bi. It was tender and delicious! Our dinner for 4 people and 5 entrees was around $51. I thought it was reasonable for the food. They do give a lot of food, so you get your money's worth. I really want to give this place a 3.5. The barbecue is good, however they use gas and not coals. In my opinion, the #1 difference in a Korean BBQ place in the US compared to Korea is the panchan (side dishes). I find the panchan of every Korean BBQ place I've been to in the US, lackluster. This place is no different. I can't complain about the BBQ, although I think I can make better. I feel like they don't season the meat. I won't blame Chungdam, I think that's every place in ATL. I always go to Chung Dam for their Korean barbecue, so I can't speak to any of their other dishes. We usually order the bulgogi and galbi, although sometimes we also get the pork. If you've eaten traditional Korean barbecue before, you know what to expect at Chung Dam. They bring out a variety of small dishes with rice, kimchi, lettuce, etc. You wrap the cooked meat in a leaf of lettuce and add your choice of toppings. Service is attentive and the decor is very attractive. It looks like a very expensive restaurant, even though it's not. I find the prices moderate. They're not cheap, but they're not off the charts either. And if you're dining with a large group, they have several small enclosed rooms that are very private. read more

The worst management organization ive ever seen The nengmyung is the worst in the whole city of Duluth They brag about their nengmyun(cold noodle soup) and they cant even back it up I warn all customers that want to eat here GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!! The Korean BBQ here is really good. We need to try out the sushi and Japanese items as well, but we opted for the BBQ on both of our visits here. I know there are several other Korean BBQ restaurants in the area, but multiple people have recommended Chung Dam as being the best. The prices are a little high, but the quality of the meats here are really good. We have tried the Galbi-Gui (short rib), Bulgogi (sliced beef), Chadolbagi (rib-eye), and Pork Tenderlion and they have all been amazing. You get the assortment of sides that you would at any Korean restaurant and the staff is more than willing to explain what they all are if you don't already know (we had to ask what some of them were). I have been to a really good Korean BBQ restaurant in San Francisco and I think this place definitely compares to it. I highly recommend visiting Chung Dam and we will definitely be back. read more

Try Chung Dam's Naeng Myun (cold buckwheat noodle - it's tastier than it sounds, I promise)!! My boyfriend grew up having his parents' homemade, meaty Naeng Myun all his life and he couldn't find a good Naeng Myun place in Atlanta that is just as meaty. About when he gave up on Atlanta, he found Chung Dam's Naeng Myun which is quite meaty. Recently, I also found out that my parents' recommended Naeng Myun place is Chung Dam. That says a lot, no? I think I'm lucky to be surrounded by foodies! Hehe. My first visit here was when I was in college. Like other Yelpers have stated in their reviews, I, too, thought that this place was pricey. Fast forwarding 5+ years - I came here with my boyfriend and couple of our friends. We helped them move so they treated us out to Chung Dam. We ordered 1 order of Galbi (Korean BBQ), 1 order of Sam Gyup Sal (pork belly meat), Bulgogi Tortilla (Bulgogi is stir fried beef) and 1 Naeng Myun. Note: if you want to sit by the grill, you have to order 2 orders of meat. It doesn't have to be 2 orders of the same kind of meat. Verdict - Galbi & Sam Gyup Sal: tasty and good. Enjoy it with lettuce that comes with it along with shredded scallion and the sauce. Bulgogi Tortilla: smaller than expected. It's pretty much a fancy beef & cheese quesadilla. We have been here a few times and the food is decent but a little high priced and service is not the friendliest. We just like it because of the little TV and it's right by Hmart. I'm not Korean, and they turned me down for having a Dol party (baby's first birthday) there when I asked. My husband, who is Korean, went back in to ask again and was accepted to the club I guess...and they explained to him all the ins and outs and how the dining room is partitioned and can be changed to accommodate the number of guests we have. LOL. Same MANAGER spoke to both of us. Unbelievable. This has been the worst case of discrimination I've ever experienced from Koreans. Chung Dam is still my #1 Korean BBQ choice 5 years later and many, many visits under my belt. In my opinion the quality of the meat is better than any of the other places we've been. Unlike some, we don't care about the AYCE option, so the fact that they don't have it is no big deal. My husband and I have always had great service here. I'm not Korean, husband is, but they've always been great to us. I've never once felt like they treated me differently because I'm not Korean. We usually go alone or with just a few extra people with us, but we also had a larger group when our daughter was very young and we needed a larger, more private room. My family and i went here on sunday because we couldn't decide between korean bbq and sushi. It was not a busy night at all. The place was spacious and clean, and the waitress took our order promptly. We ordered two types of hot food and a sushi combo. The hot food arrived first and it was good. I was a waitress at a sushi restaurant before, so I knew sushi orders take a longer time... but by the time our sushi came, my dad and brother were all done with their food (and my brother eats sloooowwly). About 30min after the hot food arrived, the sushi man rang the bell for a waitress to pick up our sushi. The sushi man rang 3x before someone came. I wanted to get up and serve myself cause i was so hungry.. The waitress brought our sushi and we kept in our concerns and asked if we were getting miso soup (because clearly she forgot). She said she will bring it out along with more banchan, and my dad asked 'doesnt our hot food include soup too?' And the waitress responds, 'Yes.. I wanted to bring it out with the sushi'.... what? They were all done with their dinner.. The whole time we were eating no one came to refill drinks or to simply check in on us until we expressed our disappointment in the service. We saw at least 5 waitresses when we came in. We were there between 8-9pm and the place was empty. Horrible service. I've tried the majority of KBBQ place in the Duluth area and this has been my least favorite experience so far. One thing I liked is that they are open for lunch where as most places are only open for dinner. First of all, there is no AYCE option which is a disappointment for me because I eat a lot. So you have to order portions separately which makes eating here pretty expensive if you like to try different meats and/or eat a lot. Also their serving sizes aren't even generous, and I'd even go as far as to say small. They also didn't give us as many appetizer items you normally get, and they don't have many sauce options for dipping the meats in. I don't think I'd return here to give it another chance. read more

This is where I go when I want good and proper Korean barbecue. I've now been here a half dozen times with several different groups. The decor is upscale. Four or fewer people get seated at a single-grill table with cubicle-style walls in the center. Larger groups get placed in small rooms with just enough room to navigate around a long table with multiple burners. The bul go gi (marinated pork) is great, as is the gal bi (short ribs). However, I think my favorite is the spicy pork, followed by the pork belly. Went here with my mum's church group. Nothing too great or spectacular. Service sucks a bit, they never refilled my water without my asking but refilled everyone else's? Maybe it's cuz I was a "kid" among adults, one of the reasons why I hate the service at korean restaurants. We had an array of dishes, I don't know half the names but nothing was better than good. My mom could cook the dishes easily enough with much more flavor, sooo much salt! But nice looking place and nice job with the tv's, gives me something to look at when I get bored. Do not be fooled by the classy decor, this place is merely a "silk pillow", nice on the outside, crap on the inside. I didn't want to write this review even after having such a bad experience, but after both my mother and I got sick from eating their food, I have to voice my concerns here to spare the good people of Yelp from their curse. This was our first time having Korean food in Georgia, and I hope it won't be the last time, but I shudder to think if Korean food is able to get away with it sometimes because of the heavy-flavored spices they use in their cuisine. Having had GOOD Korean food many times in various parts of the world (of course, Korea too), I have NEVER encountered such an incident. It was the squid. My mother and I ordered the dinner for two, which had a squid dish in it. Being a connoisseur of various forms of cuisine, I am well aware of the fact that sometimes, the seafood is not fresh, and most of the time, it is frozen. But this is just ridiculous. Their squid had gone rotten in the fridge or may be they defrosted it, it went bad, and they tried to freeze it again. Whatever the case, the squid was no longer safe for human consumption. The cooks at the back MUST have smelled the rotten smell of seafood! There was no way they could have missed the smell prior to cooking the squid. The second they sliced the tentacles, they MUST have known it was bad. However, they thought they could have gotten away with it because of the spices they use in their style of cooking. They almost did. I worked on the tentacle tips first, and thought it tasted a bit sour, but because the spices were good, and heavy-flavored, I thought it was just the way the dish was cooked. But once my mother had a bit of the tentacle body, she immediately spit it out, and said something was wrong. I tried it myself, and to my disbelief, it was rotten. At that time, I felt like someone who had eaten half an apple, but then saw half of a caterpillar or insect or whatever bug embedded in the apple core. Except, instead of insects, it was hordes of bad bacteria, and ammonium laden seafood. Hmm, may be this was just an honest mistake, or may be, they tried to get away with selling bad seafood to unsuspecting guests who looked like it was their first time EVER in a restaurant? But get this, because it was our first time trying THIS place, we also decided to order the assorted teriyaki dish, which CLEARLY STATED that it included "Chicken, Salmon, AND Shrimp". After we got the dish, there was NOT A SINGLE SHRIMP in the ENTIRE dish. Yep, I know sometimes we order Shrimp dish, or scallop dish, there are usually more fillers than the shrimp or scallop, but this was absolutely abhorrent. I have never seen anyone as sneaky as those cooks who work in this restaurant. They tried to sell us bad seafood, AND they tried to save money by not cooking us shrimp in a dish that clearly included shrimp on the menu. Wow. Don't go here. For crying out loud, don't go here. Granted, the nice Korean lady who worked in the front came to apologize, and she was probably the nicest person in the entire restaurant (some others were not so friendly when they were bringing the dishes), but to no avail. The friendly one tried to tell me that they had recently changed their menu, and it didn't include Shrimp before. Normally, if it was an isolated incident, I would have bought her excuse. But no, because they served bad seafood, that would have been detected with just a TINY bit of tender loving care while cooking food for their guests. Both situations would have been avoided if ONLY their cooks and their servers cared about their customers. They do not. They don't care at all. If this was not enough to convince you, let me describe in excruciating detail about the night my mother and I had sitting on the toilet, trying to expel whatever poison they had fed us. But I will spare you the horror, and just focus on the abdominal cramping that accompanied our dreams. Sometimes in the night, I thought I was dreaming of the pain, then in the delirium of my stomachache, I shakily tried to make my way to the bathroom. All the while, cursing at Chung Dam for putting us through such an experience that brought down all of Korean cuisines as a whole. My mother was lucky, she did not have as many squid tentacle tips as I did, unbeknownst of the rotten taste masked by their spices. Detestable. Sure, you might think it only happened to us. The sushi was O-tay, nothing special but we all kinda of expected that. The assorted Korean dishes that we shared was quite good, in fact very filling and loads of it. Came here on a Sunday around 1200 and there was NO one else in the restuarant, so you'd think that service would be spectacular, but it wasn't and that's mainly why I have rated them 2 stars. Food review: It was good (this was my first time at a Korean bbq so I have nothing to compare it too). We ordered bulgogi, gal bi (recommended by our server), & jap chae. The bbq is cooked at the table by your server. The flavor of the gal bi was great, I liked it better than the bulgogi. The jap chae was a large plate of noodles (enough for 2), especially since you get some many side dishes with the bbq. Again with no other experience to compare it to I'm not sure whether the prices were comparable to other restaurants. And the tea at the end of the meal was nice. The service: Like I said we were the only customers there. When seated I stood with my daughter waiting for them to bring a high chair, which the hostess said she was getting but obviously forgot. Finally my husband stated he would get it (I found out later he ended up going to the kitchen to retrieve one himself!?) We went as a group of three on a Saturday evening and the place was great! There were not a lot of people at first because we went pretty early. We were greeted by a kind older woman who first mistaken us as Korean which was understandable. But after we looked confused and spoke in English she was super nice and seated us at the outer dining area. I was surprised to see how nice the interior was, the decor were very antique and we sat right near the huge clock that almost covered the entire wall. I can't say enough about how nice the staff were, we were immediately asked what we would like to drink and gave us the menu. She brought us the banchan (side dishes) and our order very quickly. Overall everything tasted so amazing and it was not super expensive as we split the bill between three people. Maybe it's because I haven't had Korean food in a long time, but their food was on par! Even after we had the food thirty minutes after we picked it up! Yukaejang (spicy beef broth) had the right amount of spice and their jaeyuk bokkeum (spicy marinated beef) was a hefty portion. Also, if you want bibimbap (vegetable rice), this place gives you a lot of vegetables and shredded beef on the side to mix into your bowl. All dishes also came with miso soup which was nice. I'm not sure if the proximity to H-Mart is a plus or minus. I would recommend coming here if you like the grilling-at-the-table experience. In my opinion, I dislike it when they are over solicitous and don't let us grill our own meat. If I wanted someone else to grill the meat, I would have walked over to the H-Mart food court and ordered the same food for a fraction of the price. Eating "hibachi" style earns you a private room, nice because of its seclusion. Each room comes with a TV that broadcasts Korean shows. The table sat six but would be a tight squeeze even for six thin people. So, if you're a party of six, make sure you sit next to those you really like. Three orders of kalbi were enough for the four of us. The meat was pretty decent but not as flavorful as it could be. The banchan that accompanied the meal were some of the basics - kimchi, seaweed, daikon, green beans, fish cake, and potato salad - nothing stood out. The green leaf lettuce was fresh and they gladly refilled it for us. We also scored two yukkejangs for what we ordered. I didn't pay but from what I heard the prices were comparable to all other Korean restaurants. If you need a sit-down Korean restaurant fix, this is a solid choice. However, you can't beat getting decent Korean food at the H-Mart food court for under $10. read more

They can accommodate a couple or a large group. The servers are efficient but don't expect them to know a lot of English. If you need more of something, just ring the bell at the table. I love their plentiful sides. They also have a huge selection on their menu. I like their nang myung in the summer time. They have good gal bi and bulgogi. Banchan came out - 5 dishes plus a bowl of miso soup. 0pts earned for only 5 banchans. I like at least 6. Kimchi was the best I've ever had. Fresh, just the right amount of crunch, and definitely made me reach for some water. Other banchan didn't leave much of an impression, typical dishes. Miso soup was good, but I'm not a big fan of miso soup. Beef came out. It looked good. It looked like a small serving for the price I paid. Tender, sweet, good quality meat. However, I will agree with reviewers who said that if you just want some regular Gal bi, go somewhere else - this place has prime meat, but it's gonna cost ya. Gotta admit, however, even the leftovers were tender and not at all chewy. Even though this place has been around for awhile, it wasn't until I was there last night, how awesome it is. First of all, they have really every kind of Korean food you can get. From the most obscure, to the most basic dish, they have it all. I've tried their raw beef, ssam bap, on top of their regular soups and meals, sushi, etc. So a large variety of any Korean dish you can think of. Secondly, they are consistently good. Every single time I've been here, which is quite a number considering the years, the food has always been really good. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have never had a bad experience here food wise which I think is rare. Thirdly, it can be a fancy place for like a special family dinner or occasion or it can be like a quite casual dinner date. I've always gone here for lunch and never particularly had a satisfying experience. They use different meat for lunch boxes than their bbq meat. And it's never marinated right. So I thought i'd give it dinner a try for Kbbq. 3 orders of marinated Kalbi had us fighting for more meat. Portion is unimpressive compared to the price. And the meat was too tender it almost reminded me of old meat that's been swimming in marinated sauce and i'm sure it probably was. It was sweet but not enough soy sauce taste for me. I wouldn't go here for the taste of food. But it's convenient when they have all separated private rooms along their walls and makes great for business meetings or privacy. Sushi dishes are mediocre. Nothing extraordinary or surprising. I have frequented here about a dozen times now and each and every single time, the food has been mediocre. I guess this place is geared more toward meals with out of town folks, business meetings, and meals for non-Koreans who wouldn't particularly fully know what Korean dishes are supposed to taste like. I wouldn't come here if I had to spend my own money. Korean bbq is not impressive here. I'd rather eat at Haewoondae or eat the Kalbi that comes with Tofu soups at Tofu houses. lol read more
