Good KBBQ restaurant in Duluth with great service and excellent side dishes. Last couple times there, the server remembered us and gave us extra side dishes and they were on the house. Probably my favorite pocha in Duluth! Everything on the menu is FIRE, they're open late, & staff is attentive! I've never had a bad experience here and I'll continue to come! For a pocha, it's not too busy or loud it's more laid back but still offers a more ~trendy~ vibe. Everytime I come I have to get the iron plate fried rice, it's my favorite fried rice of all time! Visited on a Tuesday night and it was very empty. We were completely confused where to go and realized you have to order at the counter first, get a buzzer, and then find a seat. FOOD: Cold Noodles + LA Galbi Combo ($24.99) - My boyfriend and I enjoyed the noodle broth and the texture of the noodles. The broth tasted very refreshing and clean. Note that they don't allow the spicy 'bibim' sauce on the side if you get the cold noodles. The LA Galbi was lacking in portion but tasted really great. I believe the 'zip' part of their brand name comes from the meat being cooked over 'zip bul' which basically means that it's cooked over straw/pine straw on fire. You can definitely taste it on the meat and it adds a great smoky aspect to it. Tonkatsu ($15.99) - Again, portion size was lacking a bit, but taste was good. The sauce is great! It's sweet and a little bit sour and reminds me of the older tonkatsu places that used to be around. You can also ask for the sauce to be on the side. SERVICE: The plates come out with silverware based on the dish and you go get it when your buzzer rings. They have hot broth and water in the self-service area along with scissors, vinegar, mustard, and extra plates/bowls. You also take your tray to the return tray area that is located in front of the bathrooms. VIBE: The place is large with dining tables and also round pub tables. The back area seemed to be styled more like a pub, so I'm wondering if they might have late night hours as well soon. OVERALL: I would say the experience was a 3.5, but food was good so I give it a 4 overall. Prices are a bit high, but I think it's because they don't take tip so at least you know what you're paying upfront. I am always down for a place that offers late night hours so that there is always somewhere to go hangout during the wee hours of the night. Hwangso Gozip was really attractive when it first opened up as it had some interesting items on the menu that I have never seen before as well as some eye-catching prices! Inside the place is really nice as it each table is sectioned off for privacy as well as isolating neighboring conversations being flooded over. It kind of has some island-esqe setting with projects for the music videos. it's a bit rowdy with the music and interior colors is more toward club like with its blue hue. Food can be better. Their steam and smoked pork tasted so off that it is comparable to something that I had cooked prior and simply reheated. The meat was strainy and smoke flavor was off putting as you had a putrid gas like - similar to butane taste. The k-style fire chicken was impressive as a show piece, but not as an actual edible dish. The flames did not do a good job melting the cheese, and left a really gas like taste all over the chicken that I simply refused to eat any more of it. Fries were cold and felt like it had been sitting under a lightbulb to be scooped out throughout the day... Service was lacking. They never showed up other than to bring out the orders and even that seemed to be rushed. The constant need to remind them for silverware, refills, and drink orders that were forgotten frustrated me. I came here for a few drinks (snow beer was ... out of stock?) to relax after a day's work, but came out of here more frustrated than I did coming in. I held off my review and came back to this place multiple times to see if were just an outlier experience. Service was friendly and very responsive, atmosphere setting was perfect for a ladies night, and the place was very clean and wall decorated. I do like there is no loud music blasting like Han Shin Pocha does. Food prices here are very similar to surrounding poaches like Hanshin Pocha. But they give you a LOT more meat here instead. Tuesdays are ladies night with 50% off all food EXCEPT for beef tartare (beef tartare bibimbap is applicable for half off though!) and galbitang. Drinks are also NOT included in half off. Came here for dinner on a weekend, reminded me of hanshin a Korean style bar/restaurant. Apparently lunch is self service, mostly Korean stews. They have discounts on certain days (business outings, women only, etc). Really wanted to like the place but the menu was overpriced and quality of food was not there. We ordered the spicy baby octopus and smoked pork. The octopus was undercooked and way too chewy, the smoked pork was ok but too burn on the edges. read more

I saw them on Instagram and I had to try them out! There's plenty of parking. When you enter the restaurant, you'll see tiki decoration and so many cute led light decorations. Very cool vibe for weekend late dinner/drinking. This is like a Korean pocha spot. There's many options to choose from like protein, soups, and appetizers. We got the spicy pork ribs with melted cheese (extra charge) , steamed pork, and fish cake soup. Everything was flavorful and appetizing that we all want to visit again soon . Service is attentive, quick, and friendly. Everything here was so good and I would recommend this spot for your next Friday/Saturday night outing. read more

I'm surprised I haven't left a review for this place yet. Hwangso Gozip is one of the newest and hottest pochas in town. They operate as a self-serve naengmyeon/donkatsu restaurant during the day, and once the sun sets -- they turn into a full K-Pocha. Currently -- this place is probably the place where you can see the most amount of Koreans at night. Glam and Hanshin has more foreigners now than Koreans. I actually have never dined here during the day and have only came to the pocha version. They have some good food options - I recommend the malatang. They have a tendency to overseason their food (I thought the beef tartare bibimbap was a little too seasoned) but that's how it usually is at pochas. Service is generally good and the place is VERY big so there's usually never a wait, which is really nice. I do want to come back to try the donkatsu and naengmyeon. Apparently there are mixed reviews but I'll be the judge of that once I try it. It's a good place to grab drinks, food with good company and it definitely is putting other pochas in danger. We came to this place as the bossam was recommended to us. We came around 8:30 and it was pretty empty. We got seated right away and then ordered the food with drinks. There are some foods that are not pictured but the ones that stood out to me were the bossam, beef tartare, and the rose tteoboki. We got the corn cheese, the tteoboki on a stick, and the fish cake soup, which were all pretty average. The bossam though was really good. The rose tteoboki was nice and creamy with a chewy texture, and the beef tartare was cold and came with avocado. The foods were good but nothing wow. The way you get a server is by pressing a button, and although it sounds convenient at first, I personally felt like we were annoying them. When they brought out the shot glasses, one was cracked so we had to get it switched. To get more water we also had to ask for it. And then when the fish came soup was brought out, no bowls or ladles were given so we also had to ask for that again as well. All in all, the service wasn't bad but it definitely could have been better. This does seem like a cool place to get drinks with friends, however i also think it is more on the expensive side of things for food. read more

"I mean, its okay if the neighboring cold noodle place is busy and the wait is 2 hours long..." - that should be considered as an insult to a cold noodle restaurant that tries to compete. A hard 2.5 sadly. Somehow I recall the same flavor from an old joint back in San Jose, CA that I used to frequent; it was alright then started to become another OK one that chases craving, this place is just like that. The cold noodle broth lacks depth, and if this places makes the patronage think the other place is better, man, you seriously need to rethink how you need to come up with a quality broth to beat cuz that other place is not even all that either... The peeps in ATL deserve better naengmyun... The KBBQ combo do have that hay-fire smoke flavoring? masking? over and is unique vs. other KBBQ joints here & there around the town, but the portion is barely enough to feed a child. read more

Only menu worth eating is the Donkatsu. Other menu such as Bibim Nangmyun (Red Cold Noodles) is bland, and the pork bbq combo with it has little flavor and the meat was sort of dry. Prior to the recent re-opening I went there about once a week for lunch. Back then they had several lunch menus starting at 9.99, and it was self-service (no tip burden). With the re-opening there is a server and the prices all begin at $15.99 or so. When the trend is moving toward self-service and lunch specials, it seems that this restaurant is moving backwards - adding a tip burden and increasing the price. I will probably not return to this restaurant until it changes to a more market-sensitive mode of operation. Frankly, tip and higher priced menu would not matter if the food was excellent with the re-opening. However, the food is even more bland than before. But as I mentioned above, Donkatsu was good. But, there are a very few places who can get this menu wrong. It is just fried pork cutlet. I don't recommend this restaurant if you are looking for $20 or less lunch option after taxes and tip. read more
