This is the definition of hole-in-the-wall. It's kind of hard to find since it's situated away from the more populated area. It was kind of difficult to figure out what to order, but we got two items. 1) Hangover Soup (8/10): we've never had Korean hangover soup so there's no benchmark, but by it pure flavor it was really good. It's mainly cabbage with some meat pieces. The broth is very flavorful and you can taste the beef flavor. 2) Premium Oxtail Soup (9/10): I have actually recently tried a different place with this dish, but this is much better. You can actually taste the beef flavor in the soup rather than having to add too much salt and pepper (you still have to for your taste but not as much as the other place). I personally like cartilage and tendon more than regular meat, so I chose the premium. But if you're indifferent, then the regular oxtail soup will be fine. The size for deluxe is also bigger than the hangover soup, but not sure what the regular oxtail soup size is. Overall, this is probably one of my favorite Korean soup place now in Duluth area. It was really filling even though it's just soup. The side dishes were good although the kimchi was slightly too soft for our taste, but we got second servings of the bean sprouts and potatoes!

Like other yelpers have mentioned, this restaurant is tucked away in the ?back of strip mall on the first floor just by the stairs. The windows are tinted and therefore it is hard to know what you'll walk into. I had been told previously that this is the place that "older" "traditional" Duluth Koreans go and was therefore not surprised by the lack of yelp reviews of this restaurant. First off, Alyssa and I thought the traditional decor of the restaurant was really nice! Not sure why they wanted to hide it behind tinted windows. The restaurant was very clean and many of the seating areas were separate booths. The staff was very attentive the moment we walked in and we were handed menus with cups of tea. They spoke limited English. Alyssa ordered the Deluxe ox bone soup which had a great traditional, comforting flavor. There are pieces of cartilage which we appreciated but others might not! The strips of included meat which were not ox were overcooked and borderline dry. It does NOT come salted (which is typical). There is salt and soy sauce to add to your liking. I ordered the Hangover soup which had just a little bit of spice/heat, a little bit of meat (beef ribs?) and a lot of napa cabbage (yum!). I would have preferred more meat but I thought the flavors were fantastic. All the soups come with a side of rice. Given that we had less food than we thought, we also ordered the galbi (grilled beef ribs). It thought this was some of the best galbi I've had- I don't like it too sweet and this version of it was just right. It was unfortunately one of the most expensive things on the menu (+$20). The banchan at Jang won Jung is good but nothing to write home about. They offer 5-6 items. The waitress stopped by once to refill the dishes that we finished. Overall, we enjoyed our late lunch here and I thought it was worth driving 30 minutes to try it out. I do not think I would choose this as the first place to take out of town friends or family.

    Cold noodles and tofu stew

It's not the first time I've visited this place. It's a gem in the town for tofu stew! Although small dishes they have been reduced to lesser nowadays, the stew still hit the spot every single time when I was there! I ordered cold noodles for the first time after hundreds visit for tofu stew, the flavor was good but the noodles was really hard to bite. I'm not sure if it's normal as the waitress did use the scissors to cut them while serving like she knew it was necessary. But the flavors of the food was all super delicious!

This is an obscure little spot with traditional Korean decor and home-style soups and stews. We swung by for dinner last night and it was relatively empty save for a few tables of elderly couples. Fair warning to non-Koreans as the waitresses speak minimal english and the english translations on the menu aren't very descriptive. For dinner we ordered: - Budaejjigae (labeled as Spicy sausage stew) $9.99 - Dakdoritang (labeled as Spicy chicken stew) $10.99 (They may seem similar but their flavors are on different ends of the spectrum.) The budaejjigae is a 3.5/5. You get all the typical ingredients: spam, sausage, tofu, kimchi, vermicelli noodles instead of the usual dduk (ricecake). There is an overload of kimchi so the soup is more sour than I'm used to. (I'm from New York where Korean food is A++) The dakdoritang is a 4/5. This stew is sweet, spicy, and savory. The flavors were there, but I would've loved to have more ingredients in my stew. It's basically only chicken (though you do get a generous portion) and vermicelli noodles. (Typically, this dish contains potatoes.) Overall, 4/5 stars as the food was good and comforting after a long day. Side dishes are good and can be refilled if you ask nicely. Pricing is great as you'd get these dishes elsewhere for $12+ here in Duluth. We'll be back for more.

Jang won jung has a nicely chosen Korean-style decor. Service was great and staff was super friendly. They brought out warm tea for me to drink as soon as I sat down. This was really nice to sip on especially since the weather was a bit cooler tonight. My mom and I ordered two dishes: #39 Kalchi Gui and Dwen Jang Jjigae (Grilled Cutlassfish and Soy bean paste soup combo) The fish was grilled to a very nice crisp texture. I was also really happy it wasn't salty. We requested that the soup be made on the bland side as this soup is often times too salty at restaurants. The soup base is salty and therefore can be salty if they use too much of the soy bean paste. I was actually kind of shocked about how salty it was even after asking for it on the bland side. My mom had to pour half of her water to dilute the saltiness. #20 Deluxe Oxbone Soup Today was one of those days where you see this on the menu and think. Yup! Gotta have it. I loved everything about the soup except the ginormous chunk of oxbone. I love oxbone but when it's too big, the texture and mush as you bite and nibble on it is a bit overwhelming. They give you a small dish with soy sauce and wasabi to dip your meat in. The flavors didn't really balance for me. I was wishing I could have Jang su Jang's (on venture Drive) wasabi soy sauce for my meat. The side dishes are mediocre. I felt all their side dishes aside from their spicy potato slices and radish kimchi could use some improvement. I didn't bother reading yelp reviews prior to coming here, but perhaps I shall have to try their hwejang gook next time as it seems to be a popular item.

    Sul lung tang
    Jung-In S.

I have had only one meal here so far, but I can see myself coming here regularly. Half of the menu is comprised of comforting, warming soups and stews, which is why I chose to come here for my first meal after going out for Halloween. The oxbone soup, or sul lung tang, and army stew, or budae jjugae, came steaming, as expected. The budae jjigae had beans in it too, which is a pretty nice touch that I normally don't see elsewhere and the sul lung tang had a good bit of meat in it. The banchan was quite good as well, although our refill of radish kimchi was not as fresh and crunchy as I would have liked. The service here was very nice, though, and accommodating to non-Korean speakers and Korean speakers alike, although the servers' English is definitely limited. On top of that, the prices were very fair, with our total for the two soups being about $18. I will definitely be back!

My partner and I came in around roughly 9:50-10pm. When we arrived we're were initially informed that we had to order soon because they were closing in 30 minutes and were understandings of that. Shortly after we were seated, (literally 1-2 minutes) about 3 employees came to our table letting us know we needed to order within the next few minutes. It was like 10:05. I tried asking one of the employee what the meat options were and was just interrupted by him being persistent in us ordering and did not really answer our questions, mainly because I noticed some of the meat options were pork and I do not consume pork for personal reasons. My partner and I felt overwhelmed and just ordered something we thought would not include pork. After submitting our order another employee came by with the check already without us asking insisting for us to pay before our food even came out. Mind you the restaurant closed within 20 minutes at this point. When our food did come out, it did contain PORK!!! We just left shortly afterwards and left the food on the table.

I was absolutely obsessed with the smell of this restaurant before I even went in! I appreciated them, giving us two grills, and the staff actually cook the meat for you. I wish I was sitting more towards the left grill because whoever cooked the pork belly on that side made sure the flame was hot enough and it cooked the pork thoroughly while also making it crispy on the outside. In front of me, the griller did not make the heat high enough so it took a while for the pork to be fully cooked. She told us it was done and it was still kind of chewy so I kept swapping back-and-forth from the left grill onto this one. That's the only reason why I gave it a four instead of a five out of five was because I did not like the way they cooked part of our pork. It was so chewy the fat was not cooked at all, but it was an easy fix. I just had to cook it longer on the other grill but again we shared two grills between eight people so 1/2 of our group got to eat more than us. I like how the pork doesn't have a really strong, pork smell, and it tasted very good like it was seasoned properly. I absolutely love the kimchi! I love how this restaurant stays open pretty late so we can enjoy eating and drinking. It's such a nice casual place to hang out. For dessert, we had kimchi fried rice haha. It was such a great night!

This time, I brought my friend who has never had Korean bbq before for her to try. We went right when it opened so it was quiet. I told the server it was her first time and he was eager to explain everything to her. I don't think she was prepared at all what was about to grace our table He brought out a cart full of side dishes and start to explain what each one is along with the flavor profile. When he got to the scallion salad, she was just not loving it, but he told her to at least try and see what she thinks (don't knock it til you try it!) Then he said they're still getting the charcoal ready so it'll be a few more minutes and my friend's eyes just (like what?) So we start with trying a bite of all the sides. She enjoyed everything except the sliced onion salad. Surprisingly, she loved everything else, including the scallion salad! She's a texture eater, so I was weary of her trying the tofu, but she really enjoyed that too! So... the charcoal comes out, and she's just Then the server brings the grill with the cheesy corn, spicy bean sprout, and he poured in the eggs. Followed by the meats! Since she didn't really know what she likes, I made a few suggestions and the server suggests letting him bring us the most popular items first and we can work our way through the menu. What a great idea!! Started with brisket and ribeye and wow ... meats were fresh, paired with the sides, and the dipping sauces, it's just chef's kiss!! We then had bulgogi and pork belly and those were just bursting with flavor! The cheesy corn was good but burned too fast on the grill, the spicy bean sprouts are amazing, and the steam egg is my favorite . The only downside is that if you don't eat those sides that are cooking on the grill right away they'll turn dry and burned and it won't be as good. The cheesy corn also caused some splattering to our hands when we were cooking the meats. The server apologized for the oil splattering since he heard the squeal immediately soak up the oil from the cheesy corn so the splattering would stop. Overall, my friend gave it 10/10!!!
