A great diner with a historic feeling. I came here while waiting for work to be done on my car at nearby S & S Radiator. I sat here, had some breakfast and coffee and worked on my greek homework. You feel like you are in an old school diner with jukeboxes, booths and metal tables. The breakfast food is good and decently priced, perhaps a little pricier than franchises (like denny's, ihop), but cheaper than other breakfast places. Came in to eat some breakfast while I waited for the hitch to be installed on my truck. I received my food after a very short wait. I ordered the French Toast plate with bacon and eggs. All the food tasted very good but not great. For the price of the plate it was worth the money. This is another local cafe in oceanside that is defiantly worth staying open. Good food. Nice people. But when I was charged 2.00 to add some shredded cheese to my fries I was in disbelief. Something i'd expect from Daly. I highly suggest people take their business to the Pit Stop off mission and el camino real. Half the cost and twice the quality. And just an overall better experience. read more

So, the 101 Cafe changed owners and extended their hours recently. Glad to say they still deliver great classic diner food. My go to is their cold turkey sandwich. The turkey is moist and flavorful and pairs great with their classic fries or onion rings. read more

On our way to San Diego for a Navy reunion decide to "pit" at Oceanside and not wishing the usual fare opted to stop here. The place was sparsely occupied with customers finishing their meals and mostly chatting. we were seated and given our drinks which was iced tea which was quite good and refreshing. Taylor, our adorable, fishing talking waitress took our orders, my bride chose the Jr. Burger with onion rings and I the Ortega Burger with fries and then we waited and waited and waited some more. Our frustration finally showed they said they had "goofed" and our meal would be right out. Everything tasted great especially the onion rings. Our breakfast met our expectations for classic diner. A pretty good fry-up for me and my wife and french toast for the kid. The place is hip-deep in California Pac coast history. I think they're stuck somewhere between a neighbourhood stand-by and a historical stand-out. Could use a little pro branding help but it certainly is planted firmly in 'real'. I enjoy this place very much, old looking dinner decorated with old pictures of Oceanside, friendly staff and good food. Definitely not the place for "tight wads" who complain about every little thing. The only thing that is a bit of a inconvenience is a that they only take cash, but there's an ATM at the place. Not a huge deal, we made the mistake of not bringing cash on our first visit, but other than that this is a place for couple and families to come enjoy good food at a great place. read more

It is just what it's name says it is a café and not a restaurant so if you're looking for high-end food go find a restaurant. 101 Cafe is a nice enough little joint. Leftover remnants of better times, the inside has a very old school, 50's smalltown cafe setup. The food is usually good, ideal for weekend brunches. It's small, not fitting more than 5 comfortably at any given table. If you did get a larger party in there, you'd be crowding everyone else and likely be putting your elbow in someone's eggs. The service is mediocre-- like the waiters have too many customers, but I've never seen more than 20 people at a time in there. It's located along the infamous Coast Highway. There's a nice history, but the place doesn't take card-- ?! An ATM is the only way to pay if you don't have cash, and that has a surcharge. Overall, I'd say there are better places in the area to get the same deal, but with better service and less of that crowded-in feeling. read more

My wife and I went after breakfast rush (10:15) we signed in and got an inside table very shortly. We knew the special was a Greek omelet and we went for it (despite some yummy looking specials on the board). Added a side of Corned beef hash and had the potatoes as the included side. WOW! A great deal and tasted better than any other of this type of breakfast we have ever had. We have a fave spot in our hometown and this blew it away. We got a a waitress who was very friendly and communicative (sorry didn't get her name otherwise I'd give her credit) I had to introduce myself to the cook and shook his hand as we left. After passing on two of our favorite breakfast places because parking wasn't available, we stopped here for the first time. We ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, and the Truckers omelet. Both were fantastic. The chicken fried steak was crunchy and the gravy was very thick and creamy. It was perfect. Huge portion, and the hash browns were very crunchy like we like them. My dads omelet was loaded with bacon. Nothing was greasy, everything was really good. There are some quirks here - the bathroom requires a token and is a separate building a few steps away. We thought it was cute, but some might find it inconvenient. Another caveat is they take cash only. But there is an ATM in the restaurant. We will definitely be back. read more

Had Fathers day breakfast at the 101 cafe. It's clean and nice and the service is good. The menu is good, and the food is good. It's nothing to write home about, however. My first choice for Fathers Day breakfast was the longboarder cafe in Oceanside, but as you might have figured, the line at the Longboarder was out the door so we ended up at the 101. Again, not bad, just not my first choice. One annoying thing about the 101 is that the traffic is SO NOISY, and they often leave the front door open, making it even worse. The staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food, as I said earlier is good but not great. I'm guessing the locals that have been going here for a long time have their favorites and know what to order. The country potatoes (the square cut potatoes served oftentimes instead of hashbrowns) should be good but they weren't. They are so easy to make, yet the cook didn't add any onion or seasonings or even salt. They looked good but were bland, which is unfortunate, because home can make or break an othewise average meal, and this breakfast was only average, so they broke the meal. read more

This is a busy old fashioned diner. One Server was on when I was there so I suggest that you are decisive about what you want when she greets you. The service was quick and food was yummy.
