Burnt hard French fries and brown avocado that was in my sandwich

Overpriced, to say the least... Service was good, they were attentive but definitely not worth the money. An extra charge if you order anything with eggs.. waitress said due to the egg shortage, which is news to me, there ain't no shortage, there just expensive.

Great local spot! Breakfast was so good with very generous portion sizes. The staff were very welcoming and prices are very reasonable.

The breakfast was really good, at a good price and quick. The servings were generous. The Country Scramble had good gravy and biscuits. My kids like their pancakes and hash browns. We would get food here again.

Great place. Good environment and the portion size is very large, especially for what you pay for. Highly suggested for families, couples, or if you're just looking for something yummy.

Yum! This was the chicken something or another. The bottom right part of the menu. Oh my goodness it was good!

Inside is really large and there are many different seating options and giant sized tables with many chairs available. They also have an outdoor eating area. Parking is extremely easy. It's located in a shopping center with plenty of free parking. You order at the counter, they give you a number, and then they bring the food to you. It is not a full service restaurant. The menu is not large, but it does have a lot of good options on it. I chose the Chili Cheese Omelette for my breakfast and thought it was really good. It was a decent sized portion and I honestly really liked it. I would recommend if you are in the area.

We ordered a pastrami sandwich, Philly cheesesteak, a kids burger combo, kids chicken tender combo, kids corn dog combo, 2 shakes, an order of fries and order of onion rings. This is how you get to $102 for takeout for 2 adults and 3 kids. Shakes alone were $9 EACH! The prices listed on their own website are outdated. Seriously, if we had known that we would be spending over $100 for takeout we would have skipped this place.

It was busy during lunch but we were lucky and snagged a booth. The menu offers classic diner fare - all day breakfast items, burgers, sandwiches, soups, and salads. I ordered the beef dip w/ fries and asked if they had horseradish. They asked me if I wanted the creamy kind or the raw shredded kind. Amazing!!! The beef dip was AMAZING. Au jus was perfect and the horseradish (I opted for the creamy kind) was the cherry on top. I was fortunate enough to try a couple bites of their cinnamon roll and if you like cinnamon rolls, theirs tops Cinnabon! Service is efficient, friendly, and no nonsense. Home Sweet Home Cafe reminds me of the mom & pop cafes in Mammoth; cozy, inviting, and serving great food. Truly a hidden gem in the middle of an industrial area in Escondido!!

Staff are very friendly and helpful in providing explanations and recommendations when ordering. They come to check on you often, even during rushes. The food is pretty typical diner food, doesn't try to do anything unique, but their items are all solid. I recommend the country skillet with country fries (which are just deep fried potato cubes). Definitely order the biscuits and gravy if you like them, it's delicious here. Five stars on the scale of American diners.

The service is friendly and quick. I love that the servers interact with the customers when they can. They make eye contact and share a smile, that definitely makes it a welcoming place where you want to come back. I decided to order a half order of biscuit and gravy (gravy on the side), my side choice was fruit and I ordered sausage patties on the side. When my ordered arrived I was amazed how large the serving was, and was glad I ordered a half order. I didn't finish it and ended up taking home the leftovers. My order was delicious! The gravy was perfect, not too runny or too dry. The side order of the sausage was cooked just right. I was lucky to find street parking in front of the restaurant. Parking could be an issue especiallly on the weekends but it being the weekday the day we met made it easier to find a parking spot. I look forward to returning to Don's!

Chris greeted us right away and was the most gracious Eagles fan we've ever met -- especially considering the 49ers had just beaten them last week and we were wearing our Niners gear. He had nothing but nice things to say, and coming from a 49ers fan... that's saying a lot. It truly set the tone for the visit. Our server, Arianna, was fantastic -- polite, friendly, easy-going, and so chill. She made everything feel effortless and relaxed, which is exactly the energy you want at brunch. Highly recommend the Avocado Eggs Benedict -- the eggs were cooked absolutely perfectly. We really enjoyed the entire experience, and bonus points because the bathroom is adorable -- such a fun detail that shows how much care goes into the place. We'll definitely be back!

Berry Crunch French Toast, same thing. Our friends ate the Stratford Scramble and it was just 3/5 as well. PRICE - considering the food is nothing special, I wondered why we are paying a higher price for it. Definitely overpriced unless you really care about eating at the harbor, looking at the water through some dirty glass. SERVICE - their current set up is to take your order, take your money, and give you a number. That would fine and dandy except that the girl who was taking orders ALSO had to play bartender. The line seems to be so long and take forever because she'll take your order, then spend 5 minutes making drinks or doing something else before taking the next person's order. Maybe this is their way to handle the traffic because tables are full and maybe they are down staff members. Either way, I was disappointed at the speed/organization. HEALTH CODE VIOLATION - the cherry on top to all of this happened since I had so much time in line to observe. The girl taking orders would take an order, process payment by touching the POS system, then scoop ice into a glass for the drink she was making (this time was a Bloody Mary), handle bottles of alcohol, and FINALLY, touch the bacon and garnishes for the Bloody Mary all without washing her hands. No doubt there have been many hands that have touched all of those things and contaminated them, all for her to touch food at the end without washing her hands. The POS system is also about 10 feet away from the bathroom so all of this adds up to something that seems risky and needs to be fixed.
