Ordered the same ebisu lunch (4 small courses) that I had ordered three weeks earlier with a request to swap a non veggie maki (more expensive!) for a veggie one. Last time no problem. This time the chef refused the substitution and the manager just asked me casually to order a la carte. Embarrassing situation in front of a client. I did order the extra roll a la carte, duly charged. In all this they forgot to bring a tempura, food was slow, waiter clumsy. Bill had a 20% svc charge, fully paid as usual. Manager offered to get the general manager who never showed up. I was also charged for the tempura that never came. Fully paid that too. Need I say more... There is SOO much more to the name and hype in a good restaurant franchise. Zuma Miami is amateurish at best. What a shame. read more

There's three tiers of their brunch menu, we stuck with the lowest and it was pretty spot on. Made reservations and were seated outside with the wonderful view of Brickell. While the drinks took a tad bit long to arrive, we were casually enjoying their apps. Everything was tasty. As for the entree, I had the salmon. I didn't think I would be able to finish it but it was so good how could I not?! To finish off, we had their dessert platter. Everything was superb. Absolutely spectacular dinner experience - amazing scenery, great food and flawless service. Zuma is consistently one of our favorite spots. The chef gladly accommodated a vegetarian and gluten-free diet. I strongly recommend the sushi rolls and the robota fish - salmon, Chilean sea bass and, my personal favorite, the branzino. We went to Zuma on a Saturday night and had a reservation at 10:15pm. This restaurant is located in the EPIC hotel where you must valet for $20 . To access the restaurant you have to walk trough the main lobby. Since we had a reservation, we didn't have to wait long. The manager in the front was very polite and let us know when our table would be ready. He then, set us a new table when I said that I didn't like the one assigned to us (since too close from other couples.) It was my 4th time at Zuma and I always love the atmosphere. We ordered Zuma truffle sushi, shrimp and cod dumplings, spicy tuna roll, rib eyes with chili ponzu , Negroni and a Zumanuka. Food was delicious so were the cocktails. I loved the music which was smooth house. I will not put 5 stars because our waitress was polite but not really efficient and pretty slow. While Sushi Zuma did not disappoint us, this place simply cannot be called a "Fine Dining" experience. The Good -Sommelier Available ( but only if you are spending $$$ on high priced bottles) -Lively, Trendy, and exciting atmosphere -Decent sushi and delicous robata menu options -The presentation of the food is excellent. Picture-worthy -The Hostess we worked with was kind and accommodating (didn't catch her name but she has a tongue ring- Thank You, btw!) . Great first-impression due to her exemplary service. The Bad - Way too loud. Impossible to have a conversation without shouting. - Sommelier is too busy to assist everyone due to the high volume of clients and the faced-paced environment. -Service. The service here is rushed and impersonal. -Bad Timing. The timing of food to the table is wonky at best. You may wait 15 minutes for your appetizer and once it is set on the table, the main plate is already arriving. -Cocktails, they are just too sweet without enough flavor. We ordered a lychee rose martini and tasted neither ingredient. The REALLY bad Sticking Points- We first received a bill from one staff member and later received a bill from another. There was a $700 discrepancy with the 2 checks but nobody seemed to notice. When asked about this, the first server just took away the first bill as if to hide it and offered no explanation. Wine and spirits are very important to me. While the service (pouring) was a bit rushed, we were very happy with our selection. After our group spent over $1000 on a bottle of Champage I asked our sommelier to see the bottle for a picture and keep the cork to take home as a memory. He had tossed it and was unable to produce either. ***This is a HUGE fail and frankly, quite unprofessional for a sommelier to discard a client's cork before the meal is completed.*** This mistake cost them a star in my eyes and I left the establishment deciding not to come back on my own unless I'm invited. Overall The ambiance is lively, a place to see and be seen. The sushi is good, although I would always recommend ordering sushi only if you are in direct view of the chef who is preparing it, otherwise, the sushi (which should optimally be eaten within seconds of preparation) can taste a bit stale, lacking freshness after minutes waiting on the bar. The timing is bad, and sushi can come oddly timed or not at all. This is an area of improvement that Zuma can easily work towards. The food is pricey, which is expected. The main issue is, somebody who understands fine dining will surely be disappointed. Zuma is boasting a fine dining experience at Michelin star-worthy prices but is NOT anywhere close to being able to live up to this standard. Although we had a great time and were there to celebrate a successful year-end goal being met, we will not be back unless by invitation. read more

My husband Matt B. and I had a late flight out of Miami on a Sunday night in November, and we decided to squeeze in a nice dinner date while we were still in town. I was able to grab a last-minute 6:00 reservation at Zuma, and we went and enjoyed a snazzy Japanese fusion feast. I don't know why, but this style of restaurant feels very Miami to me (maybe Vegas also). Swanky and trendy but not in a hipster way, just attractive and modern in an attractive, modern hotel, with souped up sushi, miso cod, and fancy cocktails on the menu. It was very expensive, but we knew what we were getting into when we booked. Service was excellent. Our waiter Jose was warm and professional, and he coursed our food out properly. There was only one hiccup--he brought out the tuna instead of the salmon tataki and took back the tuna when we pointed this out. I always appreciate when restaurants just let us enjoy their mistakes on the house and wonder what they do with the food when they take it back--do they throw it out? Anyway. We started with a series of small plates, all delicious and easy to share. The gindara to ebi no gyoza were prawn and black cod dumplings, savory and addictive, served with a soy dipping sauce. The sake no tataki was great, seared salmon with shiso, lime-soy, black sesame, and mustard miso. Next we had the buta-bara yuzu miso, probably the best dish of the night. This was a duo of Kurobuta pork belly skewers with a yuzu mustard miso for dipping. I've had a lot of pork belly over the years, and this was one of my favorite preparations. The pork was just extraordinarily tender and juicy, its natural flavor enhanced by that delectable dipping sauce. After the pork belly, we had the hotate no ume shiso mentaiko yaki, grilled scallops flavored with pickled plum, shiso, and mentaiko butter. These were nice, hearty scallops. We got a few orders of nigiri sushi for our next course--Matt got the kanpachi and kinmedai, while I tried the aburi uni to mugi miso, sea urchin seared and decked out with salmon roe, barley miso, and tiny garlic chips. We agreed that the prepared dishes at Zuma were better than the sushi, which was pricier and lower quality than what we get in L.A. The uni wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as, say, fresh raw uni nigiri from a reputable sushi bar back home. We ended the savory portion of our dinner with two sizable entrees--the gindara no saikyo yaki and the tsubu-miso gake hinadori no oven yaki. The gindara was black cod marinated in saikyo miso and wrapped in a hoba leaf. It was beautifully cooked, buttery and flaky, and it came with a great limey dipping sauce that complemented the miso. The hinadori was a barley miso-marinated baby chicken oven roasted on cedar wood. It was huge, and probably not wise of us to get two big dishes dominated by miso, but that's on us. The chicken was fantastic, very tender and full of flavor. We were pretty full at this point, but I had a feeling the desserts would be good, and I was right. I loved the chawan mushi, a sweet play on a Japanese egg custard made with coconut custard, tropical fruit, and passion fruit foam. The sorbets hit the spot, too, scoops of mango and lemon yuzu garnished with lychee and Japanese peach. A light, refreshing end to a decadent dinner. We had a great time at Zuma. The food was solid with a few real standouts, and I enjoyed the ambiance. I'm glad we went and would recommend this place for a fun night out, especially if you're in the mood for some upscale fusion. read more

Overall, service was great, very attentive and on time COVID measures are taken. Update: I recently went to Zuma for brunch. This was one of the best brunch experiences I've ever had. Bottomless Lychee Martinis, Sake, Mimosas, Bellinis and Champagne. Each person gets and entree, access to all the buffet food (cod croquettes, bbq ribs, sashimi, sushi, gyozas and much more). Brunch ends with a beautiful dessert platter. There is a 2 hr limit, but it's more than enough time before you have to wobble out from being so full! Having had a lovely dinner at Zuma in London, I was eager to have my family experience it in Miami before heading out on a Christmas sailing trip. Having stayed at the Epic Hotel a half a dozen times or more, I asked their concierge to book our reservation for us. It was confirmed via phone by a member of the Zuma team the next day. I mentioned that we were traveling with my 5 year old nephew and my two elderly parents and would be grateful for prompt seating upon arrival. Our reservation was for 7pm. We arrived 10 min prior and were told we had to wait. Then, out of the blue the MOD/GM comes up and begins to insult us in a VERY condescending and assumptive manner re: the dress code (two members of my family were wearing designer sandals that didn't meet their dress code and my brother in law had high end shorts on). We were beyond insulted in her delivery and her tone. Not to mention the fact that we were about to spend close to a thousand dollars dining with them and that many many other patrons appeared to be in violation as well. I let her know that ZERO people in the booking process of the 3 we spoke with mentioned the dress code and she would be better served to not be so assumptive and condescending when addressing a guest. The only reason I am giving Zuma two stars after this experience is that our waiter (Lucas) was lovely/very attentive and the food was decent while not super impressive given my experience with Zuma in London. read more

This review is specific to the Sunday brunch service. We have attended Zuma brunch a few times, but today was the last time. The service was just an insulting joke, especially for the price you are paying. TL/DR: We have a four year old daughter. She does not eat much at all, maybe an extra small desert. Their menu policy clearly states no charge for kids under 5. Our server, Gabriela, did not bother to ask her age (*different from previous visits where our server asked upfront about her age) and comes back with a bill that charges her the full $168 amount (mid-tier alcohol option); clearly she had none of that! Ship it back to her, and again, without any care in the world of asking, stiffs us for a $58 bill for the kids brunch. At this point, tired of fighting for over charges because common-sense service is non-existent. Ok, that aside, here is a more detail review of the food, service, and environment. Drinks: - Champagne options are good, and you do get enough refills over the span of two hours. Other cocktails are good as well. Food: - Overall good, though most stations are often busy. The rice hot stone bowl is a must; the sushi station is decent, though each roll piece is tiny and cut at less than half the standard size. Some items, like Miso Cod, just run out sometimes (like today). Dessert room is pretty good. Ambiance: - Mix of busy and relaxed. Relaxed if you are sitting outside, busy and loud if you are sitting inside. Live DJ music is fun and enjoyable. Navigating food stations can feel like the hunger games. Service: - (Disclaimer- applicable to this visit only): A joke. Well, at least a joke is funny, service today was not. Our first server took 10+ minutes to find champagne flutes (mind you, their selling point *is* the champagne offering). Then he peaced out for another 15 minutes until another lady stepped in for him (and other tables) and made sure beverages were refreshed (btw, she is awesome - she did the same with our last visit). Anyways, back to this review: Want a plate? Silverware? Soy sauce? Must ask for all of those and then wait 10 minutes each time. And then, of course, the bill problem stated at the beginning; zero care for the customer, just another bill to cash out. Overall: Zuma drops the ball big time when it comes to service. Are they trying to overcharge aloof clients who don't check their bills before flinging over a credit card? Sure felt like it today. And after correcting them, they still tried to further up-charge us again for no reason. Either the server is truly incompetent (hint, she is), or they try and over-bill patrons when they can (sadly, now I wonder if this is the case too). When we complained, it took one of the managers a while to show up and discuss; the other (actually nice) guy who greets people in wanted nothing to do with this and quickly vanished. Kinda shameful experience IMO. Either way, at this price point I expect far better. I won't be returning to Zuma again (for personal or work events). If you are looking for alternatives, its simple- check out Novikov (a block east), La Mar (couple of blocks south), or Edge (a few more blocks south). All of them similar price point, but they nail down both food quality and a great service experience. Hope this review is helpful to others, and also sad our Zuma experience got tarnished by one person who should not be in the service industry. read more

We did the Omakase: Tuna and Salmon tartares, toro sushi, hamachi sushi, spicy tuna roll, salmon, tuna, hamachi sashimi, black truffle wagyu, peanut spinach salad, miso soup, tempura rock shrimp, soft-shell crab, miso black cod, tenderloin, scallops, asparagus, and a dessert platter. Everything was presented elegantly. The fish and steak were cooked to perfection. Delicious flavor was evident in every single item we consumed. We ordered - edamame 8/10 - watercress salad 9/10 - salmon teriyaki 6/10 - vegetable tempura 8/10 - yellowtail with pickled garlic 3x 9/10 - chicken skewer 12x 10/10 - uni nigiri 2/10 - chefs selection sashimi 5pc 5/10 Desserts - cheesecake w/ sorbet 10/10 - chocolate cake w/ vanilla icecream 10/10 - pecan pie sundae 10/10 the yellowtail with pickled garlic was delicious 100% better than nobu/matsuhisa ( I can't even believe it saying that ) so good we ordered 3 plates. watercress salad is also very good, I loved the wasabi dressing!! The chicken skewers are mind blowing, best chicken I've ever had.. it's so tender/fatty melts in your mouth, I would literally fly to Miami for one day just to eat it again. we ordered about 12 pieces in total. of course all of the desserts were amazing but there was one in particular that made me fall in love & that was the cheesecake. I can't describe how good it was, you'll just have to try it yourself. When the weather is not 95 degrees outside or pouring rain, definitely grab a seat outdoors- it's super relaxing as you look over at the river. I would say it's one of the highlights of dining here. Indoor seating can get very loud in the evenings. The food here features takes on a modern Japanese spin. The miso black cod is a winner on their menu- they bake it masterfully and the fish is so delicious there's really no need to dip it in the sauce. Everything else I tried was delicious too, from the tuna sushi rolls to the desserts. I found the beef tenderloin to be a little on the saltier side when eaten alone, but very tender. The prices have increased and the quality has significantly decreased. $130 for the classic brunch a 1/3 increase and the sushi has gone downhill. Sushi is not fresh at all. My favorite brunch in Miami is a must try! Zuma is the best all you can eat all you can drink Miami brunch. Great quality of food and a great price for everything it includes. My favorite plates vary from the sashimi and nigiri selection to the spicy beef tenderloin and mushroom hot pot. However, if I had to pick one plate the Chilean Seabass is definitely the winner. So, Saturday night, we got all dressed up and went on part 2 of our Anniversary celebration- where else?!? Zuma! Right? Thats the type of place you pick for special occasions.. Let's get started with cocktails. The server brought my cocktail, and as she placed it on the table it was angled in a way that the beverage spilled all over the table. As in- huge puddle. The huge puddle dripped and splashed all over my boyfriend's baby blue colored pants. Most of the drink was all over the table, the BF's baby blue pants, and the floor. We used all the napkins to clean the mess- i called the waitress but she told me to 'wait' and walked away...By the time she came back, I had already cleaned the mess myself, and she brought a couple napkins. We explained the situation, and that the drink had spilled when the person that brought to us placed on the table.. she said 'let me look into it'. 10 mins later we asked her about our drink- she said she could not do anything about it.... I had ordered from their seasonal menu, the 'Mexican zombie', seemed like an awesome tequila cocktail with grapefruit, and we paid $20 for it... Unfortunately, most of the drink was spilled, and i did not get to enjoy it. Despite explaining the situation twice, the waitress did not solve our issue. All i had left was a tiny bit of drink which diluted in ice.. it was watered down. Honestly- how unacceptable is this? It's so easy to fix a cocktail situation and make a patron happy. I guess not at this establishment. Food: i asked the waitress for recommendations, her answers were short, and not a proper description of the dishes. I asked questions and it was like pulling teeth.. it was easier to get on yelp and actually read reviews and recommendations from other yelpers, the waitress either didn't want to explain (despite we said it was our first time at Zuma) or didn't know enough to properly provide descriptions.. so anyway, we got started with a miso honey salmon, and the yellowtail sashimi. The salmon was fantastic, the yellowtail definitely not that great, would not order it again. For main course we ordered the beef tenderloin- the tenderloin was cooked well, but cut in quite big pieces, and the sauce was not that great. We also ordered the rock shrimp, which were OK, I mean, how could you possibly go wrong with shrimp tempura? However the spicy mayo sauce was not that special. While eating we kept getting really cold water on us-AC vent above was dripping freezing cold water. I told the waitress, she said 'let me look into it'. Of course no solution, i just kept freezing as the water fell on me+ the BF got water on his pants, shirt and head.. oh well.. He was already all wet and sticky from the tequila cocktail that we didn't get to enjoy.. We also ordered a chicken dish.. but we finished everything, 25 minutes passed and we didn't get the chicken so asked the waitress if we could cancel it, as it took too long.. she made a negative facial expression, said 'let me look into it' and disappeared. While waiting, there was a fist fight at the restaurant- how classy right? Zuma patrons got escorted out, screamed, made a scene inside the restaurant, then on to EPIC hotel lobby, on to valet area, to the point the cops were called. How embarrassing. I never imagined a bar fight there... We also ordered the hazelnut chocolate dessert, that was delicious.. The service was awful. No other way to describe it. My server on October 5th, made it such an unpleasant evening. I can say, she knows how to wait tables, she can certainly get the job done, but not at a high end restaurant. She lacks charisma, manners, sense of friendliness, has no willingness to be attentive or helpful. Perhaps her skills can be good for a fast paced restaurant, like Flannigans, or La carreta, but certainly not to take care of clientele at Zuma. Honestly, the drink situation could have been solved easily, same with the AC water, and the chicken taking too long.. it's all about attitude and willingness to help. It's so easy for a waiter to keep patrons happy and satisfied, if the same scenario happened under the care of a good waiter, the experience would have been much better. I honestly am still in shock of the way we were treated, you have certain expectations from high end places. A key differentiator is always service, typically staff members are educated and well mannered. I do want to reference this as part 2 of anniversary celebration, part 1 was last weekend at Jaya at The Satai. That's a place with good service. Zuma Management Team: I recommend you take your staff to experience Jaya, their service is amazing. Simply the best in Miami. Great service and really modern decor w/ a nice view! Food was great and service was even better... 4/5 only because I ordered my churrasco medium and was more on the medium-rare side which didn't necessarily turn me all the way off but was not the texture I expected with medium beef. read more
