Laura saved my hair and my self esteem last night, no exaggeration. A few weeks ago I got balayage highlights at another very well-known salon in Boston, and they were...janky, to put it politely. I thought it looked great when my hair was styled in that salon, but it quickly became apparent that the highlights were SUPER brassy, and the placement of the lightener was arbitrary and just all-around pretty unfortunate. I had planned to go back to my original stylist for a round 2 of lightening, but I wasn't comfortable in that other salon, and in my gut I knew I wasn't happy with my hair. Enter ZenaRose! My bestie used this salon for her wedding hair, and recently went a little lighter in color--she spoke so highly of ZR that I knew I had to go there. Not realizing the severity of the disaster on my head, I booked an appt for a full foil + haircut + Olaplex treatment with Laura, and JFC I am so glad I did. Laura is newer to the salon, and she is an actual godsend. She took on what was essentially an on-the-spot color correction with zero negativity, zero hesitance, and a whole lot of talent, effort, and fun. Without compromising my hair, she was able to deliver amazing results that look so beautiful, I can hardly remember the jaggedy mess that was on my head yesterday before I went in to ZR. The salon itself is stunningly gorgeous, and everyone working there was so pleasant and fun to spend time with--I was there for about 4 hours and the time flew by so quickly! It has been so difficult to find a salon that can properly cut my curly hair, but Marina listened to exactly what I wanted, gave her feedback on what would or would not work based on my individual hair, and cut me just like I had asked. Just got the best haircut and balayage I've had in years from Alexa. I have thick hair and it is hard to find a stylist who is not inclined to over-textualize and thin out my hair, even when I say that's not what I want. Needless to say, I was putting a lot of trust in her! Alexa exceeded my expectations, and then some. She is incredibly talented and absolutely has a knack for blonde hair. Upon walking in, I immediately felt welcomed and Alexa explained every step of the process to me (first time for me) and made sure I was comfortable throughout. ZenaRose is an absolute gem of a salon. I had been looking for a new stylist upon moving to Boston and I have finally found one in Marina. First, let me say by saying the salon is absolutely beautiful....the ambiance, the decor, the music, everything! Upon meeting Marina, I explained what I was looking to do after it had been about a year since my last hair cut and very grown out ombre. She was so thorough in the vision she had and explained all of the products she would be using, something old stylists seem to briefly touch on for me. She was also so genuine in her excitement for creating the look that I had wanted, which made me feel very comfortable in trusting her with my hair. The entire process seemed to go by very quickly, but that might also have been related to how easy it was talking with her (LOL). Marina's attention to detail and care for her clients is very obvious, for example.....BEST HEAD MASSAGE EVER....this is something I feel past stylists have never really paid attention to. It was so relaxing. Another important thing to note is the actual attention a client receives. I was her only appointment in my designated time slot, meaning she wasn't working on another client while my color was setting, or stepping away to work with someone else. I never really noticed how nice it was to feel like you had complete attention of your stylist until this morning. And last but not least.....my hair! I have to say I was overwhelmed with how great it came out. I felt like a new person leaving the salon with my cut and new balyage. The color was absolutely perfect. I truly look forward to coming back. My only regret is not finding Marina and ZenaRose sooner or else I would have had her do my wedding!! Seriously, check out her bridal work.....it's STUNNING! I was VERY nervous about my hair and makeup for my wedding, but that was before I stumbled upon the ladies at ZenaRose and realized my fears were completely unfounded! They are incredible and I couldn't recommend them more! First of all, Estef is the sweetest and spent a lot of time on my trial to make sure I was happy with my updo - which I can't imagine was easy because I have really fine hair and used extensions for my look. She did the hair for all of the ladies in my group - my sister, mother, mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, aunt and flower girl, and everyone loved what she did for them :) My mom in particular never really pampers herself, but Estef made her feel so beautiful and comfortable with her hairstyle (which wasn't super different from her natural style but still made her feel special). Kat was fantastic and put up with my random makeup requests for finding a specific lip color and trying out different fake eyelashes to make sure they would be comfortable. She did a gorgeous job with everyone's makeup and all of my gals looked amazing! Estef, Kat, and Carolyn (the ZR business manager) were all so fun to hang out with and it was such a relief to have wonderful ladies like them getting us ready for the wedding. I can't thank them enough for their beautiful work and their calming presence - I really couldn't have done it without them (I mean, I could have, but my hair/makeup would have looked like crap lol). Marina and Zena Rose are hands-down the best and most talented salon in Boston. I will not trust my hair to anyone else. Marina did hair and makeup for my wedding and wedding party in 2015, and now that she has this gorgeous hair studio, I see her for my regular cut and color. I had a cut and balayage done on Wednesday and could not be more pleased with how it came out. I feel like a Victoria's Secret model! Marina is the absolute greatest, most skilled and most creative, most talented & artistic, professional, approachable stylist and hair cutter that I have known. Her knowledge and skills are a breath of fresh air. She's always on top of what's new, what products and techniques are the best for your hair type and texture, and what is more, she is ALWAYS in a good mood, cheerful, kind and witty. My recommendation is RUN, don't walk to make an appointment with this goddess of hair. I would actually prefer to give 3.5 stars but that isn't really an option. I got my hair and makeup done there recently for an event. The actual appointment was lovely and I felt that the stylist was extremely friendly and nice and demonstrated a lot of car and concern with what she was doing. The end product was also lovely. There were just two things that detracted from my rating. First there was an issue with the price. When I made my appointment the only options they had online were an updo or a blow out. I knew that I intended to keep my hair down with maybe some minor curls so I decided to make an appointment for a blow out thinking that was the most appropriate since it would not require the work of an actual updo and would be primarily a blow out. My stylist completed the blow out and added some loose curls and never mentioned that this would not be included in the blow out package. It wasn't until I went to pay that I was informed that there would be an upcharge. It wasn't a lot of extra money and had I been warned during the process I would have paid it anyway I just would have appreciated more communication. The only other issue was the fact that both the makeup and the hair style did not last as long as I had hoped. During the appointment we discussed a lot how I had two events that day and needed the hair and makeup to last for multiple hours. I was assured that both would last throughout the evening with no problem. However the curls in my hair had fallen within an hour and a half and the makeup had started to crease and actually made my laugh lines and the minor lines around my eyes more evident within a couple of hours instead of hiding them as I had expected. This left me very self conscious by the time that I got to my second event. I was so happy with the results when they were first finished making it all the more disappointing when they did not hold up. Overall I would go again likely for a hair cut or style because I did really love the stylist but would probably hesitate before getting my makeup done there again. read more
