First and foremost, I would like to start with a disclaimer - I am as vain as they come. I start dying my hair and changing my looks on a monthly basis at a very young age, which, of course, resulted in having been through many hair stylists. With that said, Wendi is the only hair stylist whom I trust my hair with. Like dating, you have to go through bad relationships to know what you don't want. I have to confess that there were weak moments in the past where I've ventured off to other hair stylists because our schedule didn't align. And boy oh boy, did I learn my lesson the hard way!!! My cheating days are definitely over! Wendi has been cutting, coloring and transforming my hair for almost a decade now. She has been with me through thick and thin (literally), through blonde and brunette, and through good days and bad days. I have super fine hair and it's not always easy to work with. She would also correct my coloring when other hair stylists ruin it. You know you found "the one" when she makes you feel and look beautiful, inside and out, regardless of how crappy of a day you just had. I have 100% confidence in Wendi's skills, vision and creativity. I just let her go to town with my hair and do what she does best. And she never disappoints. If you're looking for the perfect haircut, color and/or style this is the place to go! I recently had my hair balayage'd by another hairstylist who completely botched my hair a day before my vacation. I called The Green Room and was able to get an appointment just in time. Jessica was absolutely amazing, she told me the price before the appointment and made sure I was fully aware before we went forward. During my appointment she went over what I wanted as well as what was achievable during the appointment. During the process she explained each step as she went along to make sure we were on the same page throughout the entire appointment. (She's truly a master at what she does) She recommended products to use after addressing concerns about my hair and went into detail about the benefits of each one. After I left the salon I ran to the store and bought what she had recommended and let's just say my hair has never felt/looked better ! I was a regular and happy customer until gross unprofessionalism, legally questionable actions, and misrepresented pricing unfortunately outweighed any positive hair results. To summarize, I received my regular double process hair color ($200) and was informed that I should get a hair trim. After usually getting trims at Great Clips ($17) since no special skills are required to trim one inch, I felt pressured into getting a trim with Jessica. It took her 10 min to trim my hair, and we were done. The next day, I checked my bank account and saw that I was charged $570 (!). After thinking this must be a mistake (how could a trim cost more ($300) than a lengthy double process, and who would ethically charge that), I called the salon. I spoke to Jason, who confirmed that the pricing was accurate, and asked whether I received the email on their pricing increase (as prices are NOT posted in the salon - which violates a business regulation code in MA). An email obviously does not constitute pricing transparency, and at no point did either he or Jessica (the owner) mention the price before I got the trim. While I agreed to pay the $270 for the color despite the 33% increase, I requested a refund for $200 of the $300 (!) charged for a trim. I then received an unprofessional and audacious email from Jason (see photo), which indicated that while I would receive a refund, I was no longer worthy of being a client because he and Jessica feel that I don't sufficiently value the incredible talent it takes to trim hair. It's unfortunate that your desperation has caused you to inflate prices above the your deficient principles and above what a celebrity stylist would charge. Hopefully you will find a more effective and rational business strategy. (Ironic that you wrote a book on this, right?) Wendi has been coloring and cutting for the past 2 years and I can't think of a better stylist to go to. I used to use store bought hair dye to color my hair, but ever since I started going to Wendi, I don't think I'll every go back. She definitely has a keen eye for what looks good on you. I trust her judgement 100% and then some. Recently, I showed Wendi a picture of a hair color I had in mind (brighter than what I've done in the past) and let her work her magic. In a 2-step process, Wendi transformed my dull hair to a subtle but vibrant red violet color. A quick trim finished the look to give it a sleek, shiny and healthy feel (pictures included). She definitely knows how to make a girl feel and look good. Aside from being an amazing stylist, Wendi is very personable. I'm new to Boston and decided to try this place out after reading other reviews. Actually that's not 100% true- after reading other reviews I decided to send my HUSBAND to her first to see how his hair turned out. That might seem strange to some, but first you have to understand that my husband has this strangely textured hair as he's 1/2 Korean and 1/2 white- and it's very difficult to cut (poor guy has had some really terrible haircuts over the years). That said, Jessica did a fantastic job- in fact- I think she gave him the best haircut he's ever had. So when I went to see her, I had high expectations and Jessica did not disappoint. She took my 'California blond' hair and made it a gorgeous 'new york blond'. I thought my hair looked good to begin with, but she took it and made it lighter, crisper, and more polished. Not only did she do a fantastic job with cut and color, but she is a joy to chat with during the the process. And she even followed up with a phone call a couple of days later to see how I liked my hair- it was a great touch and showed that she really cares about her clients and her reputation. Hello, Quick history here. I was looking for a new stylist after the previous one dyed my hair bright red by mistake and chose Jessica based on reviews. She was able to rejuvinate my hair and bring it to normal color. Unfortunately, during my recent appointment colour did not came up as expected. It was too dark while I requested it to be lighter before the appointment. This was important to me given my upcoming plans. However, the color itself is not the reason for one star. It is Jessica's response. I asked her if it is possible to add highlights to balance the dark colour. Jessica's assistant first replied trying to convince me that colour came out as it should. When I disagreed and requested an appointment, I got a second email, saying that Jessica does not want to work with me anymore. Oh well, I guess there are enough clients in line if she can afford to treat her customer complaint like that. And yes, I expect to get qualiy service when I pay few hundred dollars for the visit. Therefore, one star for unwilingness and inability to understand clients feedback. To be fair, Jessica did issue a refund. read more

I started going to Jessica almost a year ago, and I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair now. She and the entire Green Room experience are incomparable, and there is such a perk to it being a single-chair hair studio. The environment is calm and completely catered to me and my tastes...from the music that is playing to my drink of choice. Jessica always starts our appointment by asking what I want my hair to say about me, which I love. One time I wanted to look like a "Russian Spy," so she concocted this amazing mink color, gave me some bangs, and helloooo Natasha! My most recent visit (this past Wednesday), I told her I wanted to look composed and still love my cut/color next month (in case my schedule prolongs the duration of time between visits). Done. She's truly a color wizard, and I swear, every time I leave I'm like, "Omg this is my most favorite haircut ever." By way of background, Jessica has been coloring my hair for about 2 years. Her speciality really is color and it's what I would recommend going to her for. Since she started coloring my hair, there hasn't been a single salon i've gone to for a style or cut where they didn't compliment my color. She's one of those people where if you give her the high level overview of what you want (I want to look lighter and younger, i want beach color for my upcoming vacations etc), she can execute it to perfection, you don't need to handhold her telling her every color you want (and i wouldn't). I travel a lot so i don't have a time to come fix my color every 6-8 weeks, i usually go 3-4 times a year and she's always been really thoughtful about designing my color in such a way that i can go for extended periods without coloring it and it doesn't look like there is a harsh divide on the top of my head where the root color is growing and the color begins. It's a tiny salon, and the service is very good, they know all their customers and their life story. Book in advance, she's got a stacked calendar. Also, my average color costs somewhere around $395 and it's worth it but if you are traditionally used to dying your own hair at home with a box kit, this may not be your best option. read more

I almost never yelp -- except when I have an amazing, yelp-worthy experience to share. Jessica is an excellent stylist, and color genius! I highly recommend The Green Room if you enjoy having beautiful hair, and a fantastic experience each time you go to the salon. The salon itself is small and cozy, with a giant window that lets you gaze out on beautiful beacon hill while you get your hair done. The energy in the salon is calming and positive, which is created by the comfortable furniture, the colors and the paintings on the walls. There is a natural element in the room which I love, that is offset in a classy way by the glamorous ambiance. Jessica is friendly and knowledgeable. (Side note, her lovely accommodating assistant, Katie, even put quarters in my meter for me since I failed to put enough in the first time, with a simple, " don't apologize, this is my job, girl!! " She was soooo nice ) Anyway, Jessica really understands hair color and has obvious experience getting your color just the way you like it, as well as offering up her own expertise on best color for your skin, eyes , etc. In my few times getting hair done with her, she has helped me to achieve hair-excellence, and also offers tips on how keep your hair looking fantastic all the time, and suggests products that will work magic on your specific hair type. Ok, this has been a long time coming, but I just have to write a review! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this place, and had a stellar experience. When it comes to the best-of-the-best, the ever-chic and up-to-date Jessica Dill is the one you should want to cut you hair. The experience: I got my "hair make-over" about 3 weeks ago on a Friday night at Green Room Boston. I say "make-over" because it was just that. I went from being a long(ish) haired brunette, to a flirty just-below-the-collar bone brunette WITH platnum and carmel highlights! Yes, I said it. Platnum, and carmel highlights-absolutely BURTSTING with vibrant color! What I have always wanted but a) was too nervous to actually go for it and b) wanted to make sure my stylist "got me" and wouldn't just upsell and and quickly paint so they could move onto the next. NOT the case here. Jessica took time (I mean it, serious time) to really talk with me about what I was looking for, and help me express what I would like my hair to "say about me." Yes-for a lady-that's vitally important, as hair is often, when executed properly, our best accessory! Her complete understanding and passion is so very clearly expressed from the moment you sit in her chair, until the "final check-over" where she has you look in several different directions to make sure there is not even one hair that is misplaced. Whoa. As if this couldn't get better...it does. Here goes: talk.about.SERVICE! My cut/color took just about 2.5 hrs-from consultation-to completion of style (which she patiently taught me the best ways to recreate what she crafted). Not once did I feel rushed, or as if I was "taking up her precious time." She talked with me, offered many bottles of water (or delicious tea), and kept me interested the whole time, so that wasn't 2.5 hours of dull "don't-talk-to-me-I'm-a-grumpy-stylist" syndrome. Wonderful experience. To go deeper: the space. Nestled in the chic Beacon Hill, you will find this hidden gem. The window display changes every week to keep things fresh, which is something I like. It's worth just passing by to see the cool displays that Jessica creates! Not only can she cut hair, but she can create a space! I also love the painting over the antique coach--I asked her where she found such a cool painting-to which (I should have expected) she replyed "Oh that? I did that." Really? I mean REALLY? She totally put 100% of her heart-and-soul into that space. So cool, because when a business owner cares about every aspect of their business, they yoften are focused on delivering the best experience/product possible. Absolutely the case here. As far as style goes: hip, chic, and "homey" at the same time. Fits in with the Beacon Hill scene, but has a sense of warmth I feel is quite unusual in this neighborhood. Also: my husband is in WI while I'm still working in Boston, and he refuses to go see anyone but Jessica-he makes an appointment when he's in town to get his stellar cut. He says her mens-haircuts are so unbelievably artistic, it's an experience just to watch her craft his "perfect look." So, if you're looking for a stylish place to get the look you've always wanted (whether a complete change, outside of the box, or just your normal touch-up) go to the Green Room! You will NOT be disappointed! All of the perfection of the highest end salon, without the stuffiness. I will be back, loyally, as long as I reside in Boston! This review is way overdue but better late than never! I am one of those girls who walks into a salon and tells the hairdresser to do what she wants because I can never decide what I want to do with my hair. Of all the times I've done that, Jessica was the only one who had me walk out with complete satisfaction. She walked me through all the steps and told me what colors would look good on my skin tone, without ignoring my opinions. We decided to lighten my hair from jet black to platinum blonde and then apply a honey brown toner to remove the ashiness. The color came out GORGEOUS - I couldn't stop looking at the mirror. Because the color in my hair took forever to lift, Jessica couldn't finish the job in one day without compromising the health of my hair, so she generously opened her salon to me on one of her off days JUST so that I could have the perfect hair before my birthday. That was really sweet of her and I don't know any other hair stylist that would have done that. Yes, her services are pricey but I don't regret a single penny I spent on her. Jessica did my hair for my wedding last summer. Jessica was very easy to work with -- I was organizing my wedding from the West Coast and flew in for one planning visit, during which I did a trial run with her, and all of the other coordination was via email. For the actual day, Jessica was in the middle of a move, and opened her studio especially for me and my bridal party. Everyone's hair looks great and withstood the Boston summer humidity! Marina is amazing! It took me 10yrs to find a stylist I liked in Boston and I'm so grateful for her. She's an incredibly talented stylist with great character/personality. I recently met a hair and makeup artist in Dublin who said life would be so much easier if she were a natural blonde like me... I'm not a natural blonde, that's all Marina.
