In my quest to find a stylist that can merge precision with creative texture to my short hair, I stumbled upon Alex's biography on Koukla's website. We are both "Alex B" which is pretty cool; and it was my understanding that Alex has a passion for short, fun hair- without sacrificing on the fundamentals of an even, well executed haircut. I booked an appointment online; it was super easy. The salon uses Vagaro for online appointments. The salon was comfortable and small, which is not a bad thing. I got a laid back vibe which I enjoyed. I noticed that Alex was a good listener! I showed Alex a picture, and Alex nailed it! Precise and tapered where I want it, but texturized and "fun" where I want it too. She made it seem easy (and you know if you have a pixie cut, it's not easy to find the right stylist) I love my haircut SO much! It's amazing how having the RIGHT haircut just elevates your mood and confidence! I also really enjoyed Alex's personality, I felt more like I was talking to an old friend as opposed to someone I just met. I'll definitely be back! read more

Koukla Salon, located in Boston's North End, has a friendly, cool vibe & great hairdressers here! I got my hair done here a couple months ago and couldn't have been happier with the results. My hair has been through it the last few years; my original hair color is black and previously had platinum blonde. Platinum blonde was too much work to maintain and so I decided to try a low maintenance hair color, which was just babylights with some added lowlights. The previous two hair salons I visited did not color correct my hair (literally 5 different colors) and Monica helped correct my hair for me!! read more

I've gotten my haircut twice here! One with Alex (who was AMAZING, but I don't think they work there anymore?) and recently I tried going to Niamh. I want to start off by saying that I have VERY low standards when it comes to my haircuts. Usually so long as it looks half decent, I'm more than happy. I have shoulder length hair and was looking for a cut to make it just above my shoulders. She went in and cut A LOT more off than I wanted. Just by the first snip, I knew it was too late and she had made it MUCH shorter than I wanted. Not only was my hair way shorter than I had asked for (and shown with an inspo pic), but it is also lopsided. One side is significantly shorter than the other, and given how it is already WAY shorter than I wanted, I was too nervous to let her know in fear that she'd continue shortening my hair even more. So now I have a lopsided, way too short haircut. I should have known it wasn't going to do well with the speed at which she did my hair. I have never had someone cut my hair so quickly and what seemed like so haphazardly. I usually see my hairstylists check their work, make sure things are the same length on both sides, etc. I saw a review after it was already too late stating that they had a very similar experience with Niamh. I wish I had seen it sooner to prevent this, and I debated leaving this negative review because she was so kind during my appointment, but I truly want to prevent people from having this experience. Koukla is great-- maybe try a different stylist. read more

Don't go to Koukla salon, unless you want to feel special, pampered and have the best salon experience ever! Yentl and her crew will make you feel like a goddess inside and out! Please go. You won't be disappointed! read more

Koukla has such a great vibe, everybody is friendly and expert at their roles as stylists. I've gotten my hair done by Niamh for years (followed her from her old job at Bangs of Boston - throwback) and she has always been attentive and will not let me leave the chair until knowing I'm 100% satisfied with the outcome. I have been getting my hair lightened for years and she is knowledgeable and informative about the process and the upkeep needed for my hair. Thanks to her, my hair will forever get compliments! read more

Recently moved to boston and very hesitant on trying to find a new and somewhat affordable hair salon. I just needed a trim (2-3 inches) and showed the hairdresser Niamh exactly where I wanted it. I walked out 30 minutes later with wet hair and about 5 inches cut off. I was so in shock and honestly couldn't really tell the full damage until it dried. I am unsure how someone could cut off so much when I only asked for a couple inches and showed exactly where I wanted it. I am severely upset and do not recommend this particular hairdresser for a trim. It's going to be a long few months until this grows back to the length I want. Gave 2 stars because she gave me a discount and the prices are on the lower end for the area (if I had gotten the haircut I asked for) read more

I've only been there maybe twice, and both times were because of sheer luck. The salon always seems to be closed. When I try to make an appointment over the phone, they never answer. And when I go there in person, hoping to make an appointment, it's always closed. And I'm not just talking about after 4 or 5 pm, I mean in the middle of the day, around 12 pm or 1 pm. read more

I still love Tina and everything she does to my hair, even though I now have to stick to boring "natural" colors. Her new location at 62 Salem Street, is so beautiful and inviting, I just want to hang out there all day. read more

Awesome salon with a great atmosphere. I needed to find someone to deal with my dry, curly hair after my former stylist left the last salon I frequented. Jace did an absolutely amazing job. They understood exactly what I wanted and I left with a perfect haircut for an unbeatable price. Will definitely be back! read more

Jace did an excellent job cutting my hair after a year and half of messy, tangled quarantine hair. Jade gave perfect style and thinning recommendations for my long and thick hair. Jace had great energy and I will return for services. Highly recommend Koukla Salon. read more

Excellent spot, fantastic service. Tina has been my stylist for 3 years now, and I'd never dream of going to anyone else in Boston!

I would give 0 if I could. One of the worst haircuts I ever got and I am writing this review because I see they have many 5 stars reviews and that is misleading. It was basically like going to Supercuts but paying for a quality salon. I asked for layers and they said "no, we can't do that in your hair". I have been getting layers for over 10 years so not sure why they refused to do what I asked. I also wrote a review directly to Koukla when they asked for feedback and there was zero response from the business. That is not good costumer service. Recommend trying somewhere else. read more

So good! This is the second time I get my hair cut here. Effie is outstanding. The hair cut is perfect and stays as such until the next visit. I love the result. Will go back again and again. read more

I've been going to Koukla for years now. Quality haircuts everytime and always a welcoming environment from all the stylists, not just the one you work with. All very knowledgeable and friendly. read more

Love Alex!!! She's my go-to. Great prices for Boston and always does a great job. Always gets me to the blonde color I want to get to!

LOVE! I see Jenny for cut and color. She can take me on a Sunday which is amazing because I can have great hair when I go into work on Monday morning! The salon is beautiful and it's just you and your stylist. It's not a big, crowded salon where you get your foils and sit under the dryer while the stylist tends to someone else. Oh no, no, no. You get complete, undivided attention start to finish. Jenny does a wonderful job. She has a real gift for mixing the color that suits you best while adding just a touch of something to give it some edge. And she must have been born with scissors in her hand because she gives awesome cuts as well. :) I've never been happier with my hair. read more

First, this salon vibe is amazing! The decor and feel makes you feel at home. I could sit on the window seat all day. All the girls are adorable (and Scorpios! Huge plus for me) and friendly. I sent my 19yr old here when she got home from college and her hair never looked better. She even stopped by for products and a blowout lesson from Naimh on her way back to school in August. Naimh cuts my 10yr old daughter's hair as well. As for me, Naimh is a color genius. She listens and talks you through her process. Her blowouts last 4 days and my hair has never felt healthier! I can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

Tina's new place is a slice of heaven overlooking Christopher Columbus park. This girl rocks when it comes to hair. I lost touch with her for a couple of years, and my hair suffered. But when I finally located her, all is back to perfection now. She is a delight, remembers everything about you, and always is on the lookout for what's best for your hair. And the fact that her place is just for you, it's just a wonderful place to be. Just go to her, you won't be unhappy! read more

Amazing new hair salon in the heart of the north end. I went for balayage which I had never done before and was pretty nervous about but it turned out AMAZING! Could not ask for a better haircut and coloring. And it to top it off I got an awesome package filled with beauty product samples. Can't wait to go back! Shout out to Niamh who made it all happen! read more

I had a single process done with Alex yesterday and couldn't have more positive things to say! Not only did she do a great job but she was so kind, so accommodating, and so considerate. Definitely found my new go-to salon and I can't wait to go back. Thanks Kokula for being so awesome! read more

I've been going to Tina since I was 12 years old. I am 26 now and she has never once disappointed me! I always leave Koukla with a smile on my face and absolutely amazing hair. Koukla is killing the hair game in the best way possible! read more

Tina has been doing my hair (cut/highlights) for over 10 years. She has the perfect balance of honest opinion and creative ideas and has become a great friend over the years. I would follow her anywhere! Recently Tina hired Iyonna, an amazing new stylist. After my highlight a few weeks ago, Iyonna gave me a blow out - WOW. She knows what she is doing and puts The Blow Dry Bar to shame! This week I went in for a Keratin treatment. Iyonna spent time talking to me about the products she was using and made sure I knew everything. It was a long process (it always is!) but she was patient and I never felt rushed. The products she uses are amazing and there were no harsh chemicals like a traditional Keratin and the product washes out which is amazing. My hair feels INCREDIBLE and looks silky and straight and has incredible movement. My hair is very thick and curly and this treatment is life changing! Thank you Tina and Iyonna!! read more

Obsessed with Tina! She gave me the best cut of my life - it was a totally new style for me and she nailed it. She is also a phenomenal human - this has become apparent in several ways. She's an all around keeper, I recommend her to all of my friends. read more

For the finest, personalized salon experience, Koukla is as good as it gets...for guys, especially, who want professional quality but aren't eager to wade through large, overly scented salons, Tina Mallios (the owner/stylist) of single-chair Koukla, is the answer you and I have been looking for. Not only does she do beautiful work, but she makes you feel as beautiful as she is! (Well, that would be quite the accomplishment, but... I definitely feel like I can walk with my freshly stylized head that much higher, and out of the corner of my eyes, I can catch the glances of North End's finest and prettiest wondering: a) is he available and b) WHO does his hair?!?) Ask Tina... read more

Simply, my hair has never looked or felt better in my life. Not only is she sweet and kind, but she absolutely dominates at both cuts and color. Hands down the best in Boston. read more
