I've been going here for about 4-5 years. It's super pricey, but you get what you pay for ... which is excellence. I've had 3 stylists here, and they've all been amazing. The location is in the heart of Newbury Street, so it's easy to get to. It's also so cute inside and very clean. I always feel very pampered when I'm here. I love that they have Nespresso to serve while you're waiting. Also, the front desk staff are absolutely fabulous!!! They are so welcoming and friendly. A couple reviews in one, but the short of it: Kayla is phenomenal and Stilisti was the most lovely place to get my bridal hair and makeup done (special props to Allison A. for my makeup). Kayla has been outstanding, not only in making my hair incredible for years now, but also in being so kind and thoughtful to me AND my family. I moved to the south six years ago, and I literally fly back to Boston to get my hair cut. I have not found anyone else who can match her expertise. I've been going to this salon for about a decade, back when it was called Jean Pierre Salon. This review is admittedly long overdue. I won't trust anyone else to touch my hair because they truly are the best at what they do. From bobs to bangs and everything in between, Stilisti always gives me a stellar cut. I was really sad when my previous stylist there moved away maybe four or five years ago, but I ended up seeing Ali instead. As soon as I met her, I knew I was in great hands. Ali talked me through my hair products and (very low-maintenance) routine. She recommended some new shampoo and conditioner for me, which made my fine hair as volumous and healthy as it's ever been. Ali always goes above and beyond and is proud to be a perfectionist at her job. The detail she gives to each cut, whether it's just a trim or a new style, really shows. She's also incredibly sweet and friendly and just a joy to be around. The whole team makes it a welcoming, fun, and relaxing experience. Shout out to Jay for always greeting me by name and with a big smile! I should note that the prices here are reasonable, especially for the quality and the fact that they're on Newbury Street. Prices also vary based on stylist (you can choose to see a junior stylist, the owner of the business, or anyone in between). I saw Ali here after she came highly recommended from a friend. I had an unfortunate experience at another salon in back bay, and was really embarrassed and upset with how it turned out. Ali agreed to come in early to help me out (I have an event this weekend and simply couldn't show up in the state I was in), and she absolutely nailed it. Not only was she able to soften the short, choppy cut I had, but she was kind and compassionate. She took the time to understand what I wanted, the texture of my hair, and how I like to style it. She thoroughly explained everything she was doing, and came up with a plan of how we could grow out the damage that was previously done. Fast forward- when I needed someone new, I lucked out and got booked with Ana. I have now been seeing Ana for ~2 years. She is the best stylist and colorist I've ever worked with. She cares so much about making your hair look wonderful and matching it with your personal style. I had a pretty alternative wedding (10am @ city hall), and she ended up giving me a gorgeous up-do full of braids which I went home and SLEPT ON to have ready to go the next morning. Andrew is by far the best stylist that I have had in Boston. I have really long think hair. Like Rapunzel long. It takes forever to style, and can be horrible for a stylist to glaze, highlight, style - you know, stuff I ask for. Andrew never rushes, he is super thorough and highlights the best part of my hair without taking any shortcuts to save on time! Honestly, I wish I was articulate enough to express in words how much I LOVE and appreciate this place. Last year I moved away to North Carolina and recently got the worst haircut of my life. Think 80s shag but worse. I was so upset that my boyfriend flew me back up to Boston (where I use to live) to have my beloved hair dresser Jamie fix it. I went to see Ali to fix a really bad color job that someone at another salon did; Ali took the time to talk to me about the health of my hair and talked about what my options were. She didn't pressure me into anything, and assured me she will try her best. It was hands down the BEST experience I've EVER had. I was shocked at how good my hair turned out considering how unhealthy it was to start. It was quite pricey but I've literally never been more satisfied with the way my hair turned out. I will DEFINITELY be coming to Stilisti to see Ali specifically. Updating my review: came here for an apt in September 2016 with Stephanie and she was amazing. So so so so happy with my hair cut- she is literally saving my hair after Aveda ruined it in Harvard Sq. also, I bought a product from them (hair milk) and 1 mo. later the pump broke. I went back this weekend to have it fixed AND they gave me a brand new one. They keep all purchases on file so if you have an issue with a product it does make things so much easier. Also, I bought the Hair Vitamins and I started to get some chin pimples and called and asked if I could return them if the side effects didnt go away and they said no problem, i could return the product if i was not happy. Long story short, 7 months ago my hair was tragically dyed a terrible color and I had to go to another stylist to bleach it out, and then 2 months later tone it to a more acceptable color. Fast forward to November, and the "fixed" hair was faded, fried, and my roots were honestly horrifying. I've tried a few other Newbury salons and have gotten weird vibes (some rude comments about long hair, one place making me blow dry it myself, etc), but the receptionist here listened to my horror story and recommended Jamie. She was able to schedule me for the next week, and I am so thrilled with what she did. This was the first time in 7 months I have been truly happy with my hair after leaving a salon. Bad haircut, used car salesman service, with a dose of back biting. Not to mention, pricey ($65 before tip for a trim). You have to leave a credit card # to schedule an appointment so that they can charge you if you cancel. But when you have to wait over 30 minutes for them to be ready there is nothing to compensate for my time lost. And on top of that a simple hair cut took an excruciating 60 minutes. I had planned to give a 2 or 3 star review if the cut turned out ok, but after styling it for several days I have to report the cut is a fail. Next there was the hard sale of product to every customer, the fake engagement with the clients, and the faces & talk about the clients when they weren't within eye/ear-shot. Everyone was told they needed 3-4 products when they checked out. The behind the back faces and talk about the clients was extremely low class. There are plenty of reviews for Stilisti, but there's one datapoint yet missing on Yelp: Stilisti for Asian Hair. (For all ladies: Yes, the space is beautiful and relaxing, and yes, Bella is the most amazing manicurist in Boston and worth her fees!) But moving on to my haircut... I first went to Stilisti a year ago through a LivingSocial blowout + manicure deal. After my amazing manicure with Bella, I sat down with Sally for my blow out . She was extremely cheerful and very easy to talk to -- so much so that I impulsively asked her for a trim on my long layered cut. She obliged and I walked out of the salon very happy. Fast forward a few months, and my long hair was growing shaggy again -- time for a trim! My second trim with Sally was fine, until the end: I had told Sally that I'm trying to grow out my bangs from ages ago, and found it odd that instead of incorporating my old layer of bangs into my other layers, she cut them shorter, into a weird semi-layer of their own. But with hair as long as mine (down past my shoulder blades), it wasn't that noticeable and I walked out adequately satisfied. Fast forward another few months: my layers had grown out enough so that I could go in for a fresh new cut. Hallelujah!! At first, I was hesitant to go to Stilisti instead of an Asian hair salon (namely Mie down the street). But armed with some photos on my iPhone, and trusting in my relationship with Sally, I went in for my haircut yesterday. Asian ladies reading this review probably are shaking their heads by now-- you should have gone to the Japanese salon! And as much as I hate to admit it, they're right. The majority of Stilisti's clients probably aren't Asian, and my stylist probably wasn't used to dealing with Asian hair, which requires special attention to definition and shape to give it lift and movement. Asian hair is not the same as non-Asian hair, and cannot be cut that way! I requested a long layered cut, with soft ends on the layers -- a flowing sexy cut. I walked out instead with a long bob, the kind that you would see on 5-year old Korean school girls. Sally took my hair, cut it into a straight line, dried it, then attempted to add layers as an afterthought. Throughout the haircut, I sensed that she was going in the wrong direction and casually brought out the photos again: Kimmy: "We're going to end up with layers like in the photo, right?" Sally: "Of course, we aren't even halfway done yet!" But my hair as it stands now has no real definition or shape -- it is a blunt cut such that when I pull my hair together, the end looks like a thick paintbrush, instead of long soft layers coming to an end. The problem with this is that my hair is thick, and the ends have already started to flip in and out in different directions, even after drying it, and using a flat iron and wax for styling. I wish that Sally had stopped to really examine her technique instead of going in scissors first and chopping off my hair into a straight line, which will now take 2-3 months to grow out to where I can go at this again. At the end of the cut, Sally was just hopelessly snipping away tiny ends of my hair, trying to give it some shape. She finally stopped and said "I honestly don't know what more to do" because it was cut too short. I was comped for the haircut and she also gave me a can of wax, but after washing my hair and styling it today, looking at my weird bob makes me sad -- next time am definitely going to an Asian salon. I've always had very long hair and HATED when stylists cut off more than I wanted, but Jamie always always listens to exactly what you want. I've been coming to here for 5 years now, and she does an incredible job making my long thick hair super manageable. Last May, I finally made the leap to get a balayage ... and she was absolutely unreal!! I was concerned about everything growing out naturally, but it's 8 months post-balayage, no touch ups!! So Ive shopped around, and I mean around! Ive been all over MA looking for a salon that will 1. LISTEN to what I want and 2. be nice and don't make me pay out the nose! I've been to Bradley and Diegel, Trephen, St. Cyr in Worcester, Shag, Salon 2, the list goes on and on. I heard about Stilisti simply by asking a woman at my gym where she got her hair done, by being referred I received 20% off my first appointment and so did she! The staff was very inviting, I signed up for a cut and color with Andrew and fell in love! Andrew listens, hes very nice and fun to chat with. Ive always had long hair (in 3rd grade my hair was at the back on my knees!) Andrew hasn't chopped off my hair like other stylists or bleached the crap out of it. When meeting with Andrew we discussed what I wanted, what my ideal plan was, and my price point for upkeep and maintenance from that point on we were spot-on on the same page! I go in whenever I can afford it, and for $100 for a cut on Newbury I'm happy! In the past at other salons on Newbury Ive paid $300 for a color and left with my hair wet, blowout not included. I have been looking for a salon in Boston for two years and have finally found the one!! I went to see Ali for a full highlight and cut. I had been going to multiple different stylists so my hair had a lot of different foil styles and colors. Even though Ali really didn't have time she did a full color correction on me. She sat down with me for the first ten minutes to discuss my hair history and what I was looking for. The outcome was amazing!! You can tell she really cares about her clients and her final product. I recently relocated to Boson, and my tried & trusted favorite stylist is now about 600mi away. I'm very, very hesitant to wander into any salon without knowing something about their style/aesthetic/quality of work, especially since I've had my fair share of hair disasters (some of my own doing, some at the hands of paid professionals). Based on all the positive feedback I saw on Yelp, I decided to give Stilisti a try. I went to see Laurene for a cut and partial foil. The salon itself was lovely, and Laurene was great fun to talk to. In fact, the whole experience was quite nice and I left feeling gorgeous. For the record, I am fully aware of the general price range of a haircut and a partial foil, and this was on the higher end. However, I was (initially) very satisfied with the job she did, so I figured it was worth it to have found a stylist with whom I could trust my hair. I was happy until about 5 days later when my hair started breaking all over the place and falling out. Keep in mind, I was hardly ever heat styling my hair, partially due to laziness and partially because this summer was so humid that it was a waste of time. In addition, my haircut looked terrible a few days after, and when I DID try to style it, so much of my hair broke that I ended up with the remaining bits sticking straight up all over my head. Upon closer inspection, it turns out that she had bleached OVER my existing highlights instead of just touching up the roots and toning, making my hair brittle and prone to breakage. Now I can hardly run my hands through my hair without coming out with a fistful of broken strands. It's terrible. On top of that, my hair is now nearly impossible to manage, since I can't heat style it more than once a week for fear of losing half my hair in the process. I will absolutely not be going back to this salon. Ever. I only gave it two stars because Laurene was very kind and down-to-earth, even if she did fry my hair. read more

I followed my favorite stylist, Andrew, from Liquid over to Stilisti. I've only been once, but so far, I am impressed. Though it is a little more expensive at this salon than my old one, I found everyone there to be incredibly friendly without being pushy. The decor is open and welcoming, and, unlike other places I've visited on Newbury Street, I was immediately made to feel welcome. The scalp massage that came with the washing made me a little melty. I also noticed that they offer waxing as well as hair services. I like the location -- though I am not usually a Newbury Gal, this is way more T-accessible than Liquid was. I should add that if any fellow Curly Girlies are reading this, you won't find a better stylist than Andrew at Stilisti. He gives my Jew-fro body and shape without frizzies and poofi-ness. read more

I actually didn't follow Andrew Light from Liquid... my husband did. I followed another stylist to a different salon but when I was looking for someone to do hair for my wedding (I wanted pin-curls and very 50's inspired hair for the wedding party) my then boyfriend asked Andrew if it was something he could do and he thankfully said yes! It was a lot to ask because I needed him to drive almost 3 hours to Maine for the wedding and do hair for 5 girls over Labor Day weekend. Because I was doing pin-curls and wanted my color to be uniform and not stripey, I started having Andrew do my highlights about 6 months before the wedding and then because he knew what shape would work best, I started having him cut it. Next thing I knew... I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair. I have now been going to Andrew for almost 2 years and my husband has probably been seeing him for 4. He is the best colorist I have ever been to - my hair always looks very natural and bright and it's in the best condition it has ever been in. He has also given me the best cuts I have ever had - he is creative but conservative and never does anything that will be difficult to maintain. I get more compliments after Andrew cuts my hair than I ever have before. My husband is also completely loyal to Andrew and has suffered through some bad haircuts in the past so he now won't see anyone else. Andrew knows his hair and gives him a great cut every time - not too short but not so long that it needs to be cut again the next week. He also did an AMAZING job with my hair for my wedding. It was exactly what I imagined, it lasted all day and looked gorgeous. All the girls in my wedding looked amazing and I owe it all Andrew. He made the long drive to Maine, was there at the crack of dawn and had us all ready on time. Everyone has said how unique the looks were because we didn't do the standard wedding up-dos. He is also one of the nicest, most lovely people to spend an afternoon with - something that's pretty important when you spend a lot of time at the salon! read more

I was out on business from SF and had the fabulous opportunity to experience the expertise at Stilisti. It's been over a month since I had my hair done and I still get compliments ALL the time about my hair. So I just had to write a review as a Thank you to all the wonderful people at Stilisti. Well my story begins with an experience I had from another salon. I walked in needing major help with my hair! The day prior, I went to a salon just outside of Boston and was promised that I would be a "summer ombre." Well, I walked out almost in tears. I was more orange and yellow with dark roots. It was terrible. You could see where the stylist had painted on the highlights. So, with my search of the best salons in Boston, I walked in to my consultation the next day. The Front desk and the manager, Reva were awesome. They suggested the perfect stylist that would be able to do the color correction. I had contemplated going to the drug store and just putting a dark brown in my hair the night prior! In comes Sally... the most amazing hairdresser. She was so kind and had a wealth of knowledge on exactly what to do. Reva was awesome... her and Sally accommodated my schedule since I was only in town for business for the 2 weeks (in from SF and I could not attend the remainder of my business meetings looking like an orange mess). They fit me in the very next morning! The very next morning... I walked out of Stilisti with not just color correction but the ombre that I had wanted originally. I LOVE my hair. I also love the experience at Stilisti. Everyone was so friendly as well. I would have paid $500-600 dollars for the color correction, consultation, ombre, cut, and style. To my dismay, it was very reasonable in pricing as well with everything! They even carry Oribe... love the product! I walked out with the best products to maintain my hair as well AND it is still looking fabulous! Thank you Sally, Reva, and everyone at Stilisti for making my hair look great and for the wonderful experience! I have visited this salon three times and have seen a different stylist each time - the amazing thing is that each of them was fabulous. Ashley and Kayleigh were both junior stylists and Sally was a senior stylist. Ashley gave me a haircut and blow out the first time and although my schedule has not worked to see her again, she always comes up and says hello to me - so friendly. Sally gave me a haircut the second time and it also was great and she was very chatty and engaging. Just this past weekend I went to Kayleigh. I literally walked in on Sunday the day after the snowstorm, without an appointment!, and they were able to fit me in right away with Kayleigh. She took her time on my haircut and it turned out perfect. The blow out I got was really good too. I got tons of compliments that night on my hair :) All in all you I would say you can walk into this place and sit down with any of their stylists and they will give you a wonderful haircut, something I have never been able to say about a place before. Oh and for a nice touch there is fresh coffee, chocolates and almonds in the back...sometimes when its cold out that makes all the difference. Lastly, for pricing a junior stylist is $65 and the senior stylists is I think $80? The thing is the junior stylists are just as good in my opinion - quite a steal! read more
