George and Zena took such great care of me. I had been told by multiple hairstylists that removing…read morethe permanent orange/red tones from my hair would be a long process, but George immediately knew exactly what to do. With 35 years of experience coloring hair, he completely transformed my hair and achieved exactly what I wanted. George was incredibly kind, positive, and attentive, and he made me feel genuinely heard and understood. His colleagues were just as welcoming and even found me a phone charger while I was there. The pricing was also very reasonable for everything I had done. I'm so happy with the result and will absolutely be coming back. Highly recommend!

I have to get a color correction now--at a different place or course. might as well go to somewhere fancy on newbury street to be honest. same price. higher quality. another girl there before me left with a grey balayage. I watched the lady hairdresser try to convince her it looked good. it looked chopped. the lady hairdresser was very rude. should not be listed $$-- should be $$$. not a huge fan of the vibes either. very bright LED lights and stark black and white everything. perhaps swapping to some warm toned bulbs might help and adding some natural materials like wood. owner did seem like a nice dude though. forget his name. regret coming here a lot.

About this time last year I received word that the stylist I'd had for literally half my life…read moreabandoned ship. I was sporting a full-on pixie at the time and needed a haircut rather soon. Hello, panic! Since my former stylist was way out in the suburbs, I viewed it as an opportunity to find a closer one, and maybe one that didn't have as many elderly clients. Oh, the possibilities are endless. After poring over numerous salon reviews I bit the bullet and gave Joi Salon a ring based on its positive reviews and location. I was paired with Briana and started counting the days until my first appointment. Full disclosure: I find fancy salons rather intimidating and I honestly had never set foot inside one. However, I was warmly greeted upon entering and was immediately put at ease when I met Briana. She is an absolute sweetheart! What I loved about that haircut (and all subsequent ones) was that it wasn't a passive experience where I sat quietly and she cut. During that first appointment we chatted about my current hairstyle, what annoyed me about it, and what I'd like to change. And even during the cutting process there was constant dialogue and she was more than happy to take more off the top/back, add more texture, or whatever I requested. As a result, every single haircut was a success and I always received many compliments. Joi Salon itself is a bright and pleasant albeit bustling little salon. All six closely-spaced stations were always occupied, which makes it a tad noisy and chaotic if you're looking for a more relaxed salon. Everyone I encountered was always courteous from the front desk ladies to the other stylists. Their prices are on par with those of other salons in the area, with Briana's price being on the lower end. ($60 which then jumped to $65 earlier this year.) While I loved my pixie, I'm in the process of growing it out so I haven't been to Joi in several months. However, I thought it was time to give a "shout out" to Briana and her amazing work. I highly recommend making an appointment with her, especially if you're looking to go short. You'll be in good hands.

Getting my hair done is a particularly anxiety-inducing experience for me. I am someone who doesn't…read morewant to make a ruse, so I will often bite my tongue when something isn't the way I want it for the sake of making sure other people are happy. And getting my hair done is no exception to that. I had been searching for a hair salon in Somerville for a few weeks now as I've been going back and forth about getting my hair cut short again. I finally made the decision and booked an appointment at Salon Luna. When I made the call to book, the person on the phone asked me what my hair was like and said he had some ideas for stylists who would be a good fit for my hair type. I LOVE that they did that. It made me really excited for my appointment. When I arrived at the salon, there were plenty of bottles of hand sanitizer and everything was very clean. Everyone was wearing a mask and clients were spaced out when hair was being cut, washed, or styled. They are not doing blow dries at the time which was also reassuring to hear that they are taking this seriously. I was seated and Sandra came to talk about what we would do with my hair. She was so incredibly friendly and had a lot of ideas and expertise on what she though would look good. We talked a little bit while she was cutting, but I didn't feel pressured at all about having to talk if I didn't want to, which was really nice. When she was done, I payed and we chatted some more about styling techniques. And then I left....but our journey doesn't end there. When I got home, my hair was starting to really dry and I didn't really love it. It was a lot longer than I had wanted and the layers weren't falling like I anticipated. I debated for a long time about whether or not I should call, especially because there are some iffy reviews on here about customer service once the client had left. But after much debate, I decided to call back. The person on the phone was so nice and said that they would absolutely be able to make an adjustment and scheduled me again with Sandra for the next day. When I came in today for the adjustment, Sandra was so kind and understanding about it. She expressed the reasons why she didn't cut it short, but said that if it's what I really wanted, then it would look great and we should go ahead and do it. The second appointment took about 20 minutes and I left feeling so so good. I was not charged a second time. I will definitely be back to Salon Luna. The customer service was awesome and Sandra was so so nice. She honestly made the whole experience worth it.
