I wanted to give 5 stars but I realized when I washed my hair, so much of my hair has been chopped off and I paid a lot for this service as I was told to maintain my hair length, it will be $400, but my hair length was not maintained. A lot was chopped. Like an inch or two. If it weren't for that, I would have given 5 stars, but this is a pretty big deal that I was told to keep my hair length, it will be $400 and to chop it off it will be about $300 but my hair was chopped and I still managed to pay $400. Another thing is I didn't like the way my ends were trimmed. Yes the color is very nice though. Sam did my hair and he did a really good job. I want to give 5 stars but I also felt misled simply because a good chunk of my length was lost from this and it was not worth the price paid for. It does not sit well with me. The reason I gave 3 stars instead of 4 was because the way my ends were cut were chopped off. They weren't trimmed. They were just chopped off. That'd be okay if I weren't charged $400. $400 charge was to maintain my length, but wasn't. UPDATE: Edited mine to 4 stars because I really do love the color. Sam did an amazing job with my color. it was $400. I was there for 3.5 hours. I got grey highlights when I asked for honey blonde baby lights. sam was nice but didn't speak english very well which made communicating my desired outcome difficult. I have to get a color correction now--at a different place or course. might as well go to somewhere fancy on newbury street to be honest. same price. higher quality. another girl there before me left with a grey balayage. I watched the lady hairdresser try to convince her it looked good. it looked chopped. the lady hairdresser was very rude. should not be listed $$-- should be $$$. not a huge fan of the vibes either. very bright LED lights and stark black and white everything. perhaps swapping to some warm toned bulbs might help and adding some natural materials like wood. owner did seem like a nice dude though. forget his name. regret coming here a lot. read more

Zena took care of me and listened carefully to what I wanted plus made a couple of recommendations for my partially-gray, curly hair. Two hours later I walked out with beautiful high and lowlights, trimmed and shaped hair-style with a blowout and moisturizing treatment for my dry hair. Despite the mixed reviews at this place, I took a gamble and lost spectacularly. I have straight, Asian hair. They said they knew how to cut it. Gave me a stylist who they promised is their expert for cutting straight Asian hair. He swore he knew what he was doing. Then he took a razor, grabbed chunks of my hair in a fist, and basically sawed it off. The whole, horrendous ordeal was done in less than 20 minutes and I walked away looking like a child had taken a pair of blunted scissors to my hair for 80 dollars, not including tip. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience, never to repeat ever again. Edit: within the hour of posting this, George reached out to me to offer to fix my hair. I do not plan on ever returning to this salon and fear what getting it "fixed" would entail; I also do not plan on changing my review, but I did want to mention that they offered. read more

Well there goes my 135 dollars. I was hoping for a great experience in splurging on a new look during some time off work I'm taking. As with many Boston businesses, you burn your money through 5 bad ones before finding one decent one. The hairdresser didn't take the time to really understand what I wanted or provide any color shades to pick from. It started off like a normal haircut and I was worried he was going to cut my hair down dramatically with the clippers, whereas I had asked for just a line up in my request. After pointing out I was mainly here for the color, he abruptly stopped cutting. It didn't feel like much care was being taken in the precision of the cut. There was a very "so what?" attitude with the treatment, which I think is common in other parts of the world. In any case, it just felt a little bit like being cheated, which is all too common in the hair dressing industry in Boston. The outcome was ok and the guys were nice to talk to, but ultimately, I'm a paying customer and just care about the output. read more

Zena was my hair stylist and I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in getting a balayage. She has a ton of experience under her belt, especially with Asian hair that can be difficult to lift. She considers your vision but also will do her best to protect your hair's integrity. She understands that some visions cannot be accomplished because it'd be too damaging on the hair and she'll walk you through her entire process to ensure satisfaction. Zena also does an amazing job at styling my side bangs, which most stylists always mess up for me. I also feel the prices here are fair. Only con is I find the hair washing station uncomfortable on my neck area. The neck piece constantly moves, hyperextending your neck, which can be extremely uncomfortable if you're at the hair washing station long. Aside from that, I've been a regular here with Zena for a few years now and always leave happy. read more

I had requested someone who knew how to cut curly hair and the stylist I got (Sam I believe) definitely did not know how to cut or even style curly hair. My hair is now choppy and uneven and when I left the salon it looked worse then when I entered which is not what you want when receiving a hair cut. I came out looking like a hacksaw had been applied to my hair (didn't realize it until a couple days later bc they had curled it). This review is for Alexa who did my wash, cut, balayage, and toner. Alexa listened to me when I told her what I wanted - a 2-3 inch cut with long blended layers and face framing pieces and a warm toned balayage blended a little higher than normal. She showed me how much she was going to cut and asked clarifying questions. Since I put my hair up a lot, she made sure the balayage would look good up or down. Alexa works quickly and confidently, but you can only speed up lifting and processing times so much. My total time in the salon was under 4 hours, which I think is pretty great considering I have been in the chair for 8 hours before (I dyed my hair silver. Do not recommend). The cost came to ~$350 for everything, and they do have a discount for first time clients. 100% recommend the salon for dark haired girlies like me who have trouble finding people who know how to work with it. read more
