Yay, I just found my new go-to hair stylist and salon! I just got my hair cut by Missy and it was a great experience. She asked med what I wanted and explained what she planned to do, then she gave me the cut I had been hoping for but had never really been able to articulate. The whole experience was really pleasant. The salon space is really nice, too. Very relaxing and minimalist. And literally right next to the Brookline Village T stop in this wonderful building that used to be a hotel and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Kelly is amazing! I've gotten a partial foil + haircut twice now -- she does GOOD work. She is excellent at listening to what I want/need and employing her expertise, intuition, and kindness to guide me through the best approach to achieve it (even if that's different from what I thought). The highlights I got the first time were so expertly blended into my hair and optimized for grow-out that I was receiving compliments months afterward. I use a particular product when washing my hair that doesn't contain soap, so I typically can't get my hair washed at salons. But Kelly is understanding and patient -- she takes care to make sure that the hairwashing meets my needs. I haven't had a hair stylist like her since I moved across the country in 2018. I have known and followed Marissa (Missy) for 4 years now. Incredible person with an incredible hand for hair. I like haircuts that can still look good with minimal effort. I've tried a few hairstylists, but the haircuts they gave only look good for a few days, then I would have to style it to make it look good. Don't know what it is, but Missy can make your hair still look mad good after a few months out of the salon with minimal effort. I got a partial balayage done by Missy. I adore her and the fantastic job she did. I think what's truly special about her is she is a hair chemist. She is full of care tips and she describes her color lighting process like a scientist. I had complete trust in her the entire time. It's been over a week and I have gotten countless compliments. My hair looks so summery and fresh. Scheduling was amazing, I made my appointment at 10pm the night before. The software allotted 90 minutes for the process but It took about an hour longer. I've been looking for a great stylist in the Brookline/Boston area for years and am so thankful that I've found Kelly at Station 34 Salon! First of all, the salon is so clean and super cute with exposed brick walls and a funky chandelier. It has an open feel to it with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. You can't beat the location, directly across the street from the Brookline Village T stop on the Green Line D train, with ample street parking. From the start, I felt totally comfortable with Kelly and trusted her completely with my hair. She is very kind and easy to chat with. She managed to fix a terrible haircut I had previously gotten. For the first time in over 6 months I can wear my hair with its natural curl/wave, which is so great for the summer or rainy days. She showed me some blow-drying tips, and now my hair looks awesome after only blow-drying it, without having to flat iron it as well. Gone are the days of hunting for parking on Newbury street and spending offensive amounts of money to get your hair done. The stylists at Station 34 are all so friendly and welcoming. I have been going to Kelly for years now and trust me when I tell you, she is nothing short of amazing. I have thick, sometimes difficult hair and she has managed to completely transform it with cut and color. Her hair cuts are fantastic and I challenge you to find anyone better than her when it comes to color, she is on target every time! Most importantly, I trust her, unlike a lot of stylists I have had in the past, she actually listens to you ( weird, right?). When you say you want just a little taken off at the ends...that is actually what you get with her. She will always give you her honest opinion on what will look best on you, it's clear that she wants you to leave the salon looking and feeling your absolute best. I also have to note, that I have never once felt like she was rushing to finish my hair so that she could move onto the next client, she takes her time to do a excellent job and she is happy to take a couple minutes to show you how to style your new cut. Since I started seeing her I have sent family and friends to Kelly, and everyone single one of them raves about her. On top of it all, the location is great and the parking is easy! Never again [while living in the Boston area] will I trust anyone with my hair... except Marissa. As a brunette that went blonde to almost black & had many color treatments at an inexpensive chain salon (and at home treatments, against my better judgement), my hair was SO damaged... breakage, gummy texture, different colors, a complete disaster. In attempts to camouflage my breaking hair with a new cut, I looked on Groupon for a stylist offering a deal in the area. At the time, Marissa was renting a chair at a salon in Washington Square right near my apartment... I decided to give her a shot. Not only was she gentle with my hair, she was up for the challenge. After going into the details about the awful process my hair had endured, she offered advice & gave me a cut complete with layers that helped blend the breaking hair without going too short. She told me that if I ever wanted to experiment with the color (it was awful) to give her a call... a few months later I did - and found out she had just opened her own Salon with friend, Kelly, in Brookline Village. The new salon is GORGEOUS... way more comfortable than the other place Marissa worked at. The soft color palette, exposed brick & soothing lighting make sure the experience is relaxing. I have been to Marissa twice at the new place to get highlights in my hair (help fix the color issue). She asked what I wanted the overall look to be & also made suggestions about what might be best for my hair while it is still slightly damaged. The color was incredible... I have light brown hair & she added wispy, natural looking blonde highlights (partial foil) to add dimension without needing a great deal of upkeep... in fact, I didn't need a touch up for 2+ months!!!! Now, I look forward to going to get my hair done. Not only does Marissa put up with me chatting about gossip involving friends & work, she now knows how to work with my hair to make me happy but also make sure the repair process isn't affected. She is super sweet & will do anything to make her clients walk out of her salon with a while on their face. Kelly is an excellent listener and understood exactly what I wanted my (short) hair to look like and how to cut it nicely so it grows out without looking a mess. Service: Laura is INCREDIBLE!!!! The best balyage I've ever received hands down! Her technique allows the color to look very natural, sun kissed even. She didn't damage my hair because she kept checking throughout the lifting process. Not to mention, she's very friendly but will tell you her professional opinion if she thinks what you're trying to achieve will damage your hair. Highly recommend!!! Salon: the space itself is very simple. Not hipster, not chic, but it's run by talent. The one thing I would love for them to begin using is a Kevin Murphy line. I was referred to Kelly when I asked a client of mine who did her color because she had beautiful natural looking blonde hair. I have been getting foils for years but wanted to go a little darker and warmer (I brought in a picture of Jennifer Lawrence). Kelly was great! After squeezing me in last minute in between appointments she still took the time to do a thorough consultation so I felt comfortable that she knew what I was looking to get out of the appointment. She then did foils and went back and applied a base color in between, leaving out sections in the front that would still be blonde. She was extremely meticulous and careful with her application and it showed in the final result. My color ended up almost exactly like the picture I brought in to her, which has NEVER happened for me before. She really listened and showed her expert ability to translate a look through the proper method. Needless to say, I am extremely happy with the results and have found a great stylist. She offered a warm friendly greeting, was attentive to my needs, and her salon is inviting, peaceful, and clean. Since I'm the most indecisive person I know, I let Kelly use her knowledge and expertise to style me. I find my hair to be challenging for anyone cutting it, because it is curly but also fine.
