I've been here about 5 times, and since my initial haircut the service has steadily declined with each visit. I had to come back the last time so Candice could fix my cut, clearly annoyed, and left me with a choppy bang-like piece that I ended up fixing elsewhere. Then this last visit I showed her a photo of what I wanted - a very blunt shoulder length bob. Pretty simple. I was there 20 minutes tops and wasn't shown the back with a mirror, and when I got home and looked with my own mirror, I found the cut was uneven, angled, and longer at the front. Sure it looked nice after being blow dried, and I typically play around with my hair afterwards to to be sure the cut flows nicely, but I felt uncomfortably rushed with her standing at the register waiting for me. The floor should also be swept between each client. That was definitely my last visit there. read more

I wanted to wait to write this review until I actually saw how my hair looked post-styling, but I'm happy to say that I was really pleased. I have thick, curly, often frizzy hair and I'm always nervous finding a place to get it cut (I've lived in the area for 8+ years and haven't yet found a place I'm comfortable going to regularly). As such, I hadn't gotten my hair cut in months (like, 8 months) prior to this appointment. I got my hair cut with Candace, and she looked at my hair dry and asked me around where I wanted it to hit afterwards, which I really appreciated with curls. She was able to blow dry it straight afterwards, and I was scared it was going to be too short once it dried curly. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised! It might have been 0.5-1 inch shorter than I anticipated, but it looked great! Deep Blue was the perfect combo of well priced with awesome results. and I might have finally found a place that I can go to regularly! P.S. Christiana has been cutting my hair and doing my eyebrows for a couple years now. She's easily the best hair stylist I've ever had, and is especially great considering the price. I have medium length hair and I've liked every haircut I've gotten from her and she's amazing at brow waxing. She is able to clean up my brows without making them too thin, and the products she uses don't irritate my skin like some salons do. She also seems like a genuine and sweet person. I've been having my hair cut and colored here for a few years and been totally pleased. Candice is my stylist, but I wouldn't hesitate to go to Sylvia or Christiana. I felt I needed to post about my COVID experience at the salon yesterday. The team did so much to ensure the safety of their clients by limiting the number of people in the salon at one time, wearing both masks and visors, and also long plastic aprons, placing a barrier between the chairs, making sure I disinfected my hands, taking my temperature, not talking during the hair washing, and no blow drying. I felt very safe and was awed by the care they took to follow the state guidelines. And my cut and color was great, as always. read more

I really couldn't say nicer things about my appointment with Sylvia today. I not only walked out with a really cute pixie but she took the time to look at my hair, ask questions about its texture, and (post-cut) talk me through how she was styling it. She was also an absolute gem about getting the bangs just how I wanted them. I'm that person who'll just say "it's lovely, thanks" when I have a bad 80s mullet, so it says a lot about Sylvia that I felt comfortable and happy enough to get exactly the cut I wanted! read more

Deep Blue advertises children's haircuts and I called and confirmed that they cut children's hair, but now it's clear they don't really want to do this. Stylist was not friendly, did not even wet my daughter's hair, made about 5 cuts, and then told me she was done and charged $40. What? If the haircut is only going to be 5 minutes, it would be good to know this in advance so we can go somewhere else. Discovered at home the cut was uneven too. Perhaps they spend more time on adult haircuts but not worth the risk and cost to find out. read more

I had been here before and didn't schedule enough time to do what I really wanted done - but Christiana did a great job with the time we had. I just returned for a trim and color and I practically cried from disappointment with the trim. My bangs were just awful. Is it normal now for salons to NOT do any style whatsoever - even just to make sure they did well? Do people have no pride in their work anymore? I travel for work so it is not easy finding someone with whom I don't have a relationship. Since when does it cost so much extra to simply blow dry in a fashion that shows a) you did a good job or b) this part needs to be fixed. Is it that much trouble to take a flat iron at least? Love this salon!!! I don't usually write reviews, but after coming here for a year and a half and only having perfect experiences, it seems necessary. Deep Blue is easily the best salon I've been to in Boston--and really anywhere for that matter. Both Candice and Sylvia are extremely talented and just plain cool to chat with during a cut. The salon itself is amazing: it's modern and stylish, but without any pretentiousness. Soooo easy and stress-free, which is a big deal to a person like me who gets a trim like once every 1.5 years because the whole haircut thing is usually so uncomfortable/annoying/drawn out. Not here: Sylvia got my pre-wedding trim-plus done really quickly, correctly, and with just the right amount of small talk (friendly but minimal). I usually stumble into a random cheap hair salon to get the dead ends taken care of (hi, Wavelengths), but wanted to take a bit more care with my pre-wedding locks, and I'm glad I came here- totally worth the (reasonable) price. Extra points for an online booking system too- it's amazing how much that little detail alone makes the whole experience 10X better. This may even make me want to start getting my hair trimmed regularly... So to preface--I have NEVER gotten my hair cut before (professionally that is--my sisters would take care of that!) so naturally, I was pretty nervous about signing my locks over to someone I didn't know but I'm so glad I went to Deep Blue!! I wanted a good chunk of hair cut as well as layers and Candice listened to exactly what I wanted and was super nice the whole time. I would definitely recommend this place. The atmosphere was super relaxing and laid back, definitely not intimidating like I had heard about other places. Upon arrival I was greeted by the CUTEST puppy, who was super fun to play with (since I arrived 15 minutes early). Being a dog lover, I would probably have come back to Deep Blue just for the dog (whose name is Panda...I mean come on!!) but luckily for me, and the rest of Brookline, Deep Blue is a great place to get your hair cut and the prices were super reasonable (which you can see the prices ahead of time when you book your appointment online). I just got my hair done here tonight! I called this afternoon and they were able to see me in a few hours, which was great because I am busy all the time. I didn't know what I wanted exactly, but I came in and described what I was thinking. Candice and Sylvia took their time making sure we were all on the same page with my color and cut. The place is really easy to get to on the train, and really comfortable/cute inside! They were very welcoming and didn't rush! My hair came out perfect, actually better than I had expected. Sylvia and Candice are the coolest chicks...ever. I've been coming here to get my haircut since I moved to Boston in August, and I've been nothing but incredibly satisfied with the results! They are nestled in Brookline with a small but cute shop right off Washington St. The interior is so chic and incredibly artsy, which is a great reflection of the two lovely ladies who own Deep Blue. I get my haircut with Sylvia, and she is such a great person with whom to have a conversation! We share a good amount of laughs in the half hour that I spend there. I've been working on developing my own business, and she always asks how it's coming along, and every now and again she will give me some pointers! Candice cut my hair. I got a cut with no blowdry and it said it was supposed to be for 30 minutes. The appointment lasted about 15 minutes and I had to pay 45 dollars, which is beyond absurd. The cut was completely botched and she completely neglected the left side of my hair. When I felt the back of my head, the hair that was the deepest and closest to my neck was much shorter than the hair in front of it, it was so strange. I looked at the way she cut my hair, and I could see that her technique was not as refined as some other places I went to, and she didn't seem focused on the cuts she made. Overall I'm very disappointed and now I have to go pay more money to fix my hair and make it symmetrical and even. If I wanted a basic cut, I would have gone to Supercuts, and at least they would make the cuts even. Don't come here if you want a good quality haircut. This amount of money can get you so much more at other places in the Boston area. read more

Christiana has a very nice set-up downstairs which is spotless and well lit. She is very friendly, and took good care of my eyebrows. I'm looking forward to trying some of her other services. I absolutely love this salon! Sylvia and Candice are excellent at what they do. Candice has consistently given me excellent cuts. The last two times I went in I got color treatments. The first time I went from brunette to blonde. This was a big change for me, but Candice made sure that I got a color I was comfortable with. I received many compliments on the color! The second time, she gave me an ombre which I absolutely love and get lots of compliments on! I even convinced my boyfriend to get his hair cut by Sylvia. That was last year. He is also a loyal Deep Blue fan! I also got a facial and eyebrow wax a couple weeks ago with Christiana. The facial was lovely and she gave me an amazing brow wax. I will be going back this weekend. The salon is located in a great place, just a short walk from the Brookline Hills stop. (They also have parking available in the back. Last night I got the chance to check out the new salon of my stylist for over 2 years, Sylvia. The studio is fantastic! The location is perfect with bonus parking right around back. The space is clean, warm and welcoming. It just all flows together in a really cool way. Their website is a bonus too. Easy online booking with great reminders to confirm your appointment. For those of us that struggle with calendars, this is fantstic. And of course a note about my stylist, Sylvia. She is the best. I've recommended that people to go check her out since the beginning and several of my friends have been become her clients. I followed my hair stylist Candice to her new salon and I honestly can't complain. I have been faithfully going to her for years and she continues to do an outstanding job. Her new salon carries a natural product line which doesn't contain any harsh chemicals. I find that my hair is VERY responsive to this and I will continue to use them. Since I moved to the US, 8 years ago, I never truly trusted a hairdresser here and would always do my hair in Brazil since I go back twice a year at least, but that was before I met Candice. She is AMAZING! I've been nothing but incredibly satisfied with the results! The salon is small, cute and very artsy! I always relax when I go there. The only downside is they are incredibly busy, and because I can only do the weekends or evenings I always have to wait 2 or 3 weeks to get an appointment. Good for them, bad for me. I'm not a conventionally feminine woman (no makeup or hair dye, etc) so hair salons make me uncomfortable in general due to the hyper-femininity and feeling like women are sizing each other up. I was excited to visit this place due to the glowing reviews re: the friendly customer service. I asked my hairdresser for a dry cut (mostly because I had been reading about the benefits) and the woman who cut my hair gave me the most passive aggressive and awkward response: "Ummm ok. Is there a reason why you want a dry cut?" I wish I could describe the condescending tone better. I replied that I simply wanted to try it out and again her interaction with me was off-putting "ok then." The conversation that followed was extremely forced and uncomfortable and I used all my best sense to diffuse the tension and at least make the conversation interesting/enjoyable for both of us. The haircut itself was fine but I had to endure about 30 minutes of what I interpreted to be an exaggerated response on her end due to a simple request. I tipped the hairdresser well only because of my general ethos re: how folks in the service industry should be paid 1000000x more than they are. I won't be coming back. read more

But Deep Blue has finally filled that void!! Candice is great and was recommended to me by another client, and she has done awesome things so far! She "fixed" my awful cut I had from another salon and it has worked out great. Today she put in highlights - my first ever! And they look amazing. I had always been nervous to get them until I found someone I trusted with my hair. I cannot recommend this place enough!! I had a fantastic experience today at Deep Blue Hair Studio! I've been living in Boston for a few years and haven't had much luck finding a go-to salon. I'm happy to report that the search is now over! My appointment with Candice was excellent; she didn't finch when I told her that I hadn't had my hair cut in about six months or that I often like to wear my naturally thick curly hair straight. Instead, she listened to what I wanted and made some additional suggestions. I had a Keratin treatment and paid almost 400$ (well, including a generous tip) the only problem was that after I washed my hair, it was just as it was before. I went back and asked if this is what they expected, and got a polite smile. Bottom line to pay 400$ for very nice conversation, and a blow-dry it is a bit expensive. OK, so it's always hard to write a negative review about a hair salon, especially because you kind of get to know the stylist working with you; it feels personal. But I have to say, my experience does not align with the rave reviews for Deep Blue. I have seen both Candace and Sylvia, and just was not happy with my cut or color. The cut was uneven the first time, and I had to go back to get it fixed. The color lasted about five minutes and I had to get it redone about four weeks later. Totally willing to admit that maybe this place just wasn't a good fit for me, but every time I see the five stars for this salon I feel a little uneasy because that just was not my experience. read more
