    No returns allowed?!

I was intrigued by this beauty supply store and made the trek to Chinatown on a Saturday afternoon just to check out what Tao's had. The store is well stocked with a variety of Asian (mostly Chinese but also Japanese and Korean) beauty products and supplies/stationary along with some snacks. It gets easily crowded in the shop so be prepared to dodge other customers eyeing the makeup section. The unfortunate thing about this store is that some of the price labels are not placed properly or placed at all-- it kept me guessing at what the prices of some of the products were. I could've asked the employees, but who wants to ask the staff every time they want to know how much a product costs? Just a fair warning that you really SHOULD however get the proper pricing of these products prior to purchasing because some of these makeup/beauty products must be imported and therefore MUCH more expensive than if you would purchase them from an online supplier. My total came out to nearly $50 (yes, you read that right. 50 bucks) and all I bought were 4 products: an eyeliner, hand sanitizer, hand cream and dispoable razors. You can't even return these products because RETURNS ARE NOT ALLOWED. I'm sad I even joined the rewards program because I was charged 5 bucks for the keychain tag thing they give rewards members. The employee DID tell me this prior to me joining, but I didn't hear her properly because I was shocked at the additional charge when I did receive my receipt. I even saw that they were selling a limited edition Asian Starbucks tumbler for a whopping $64. I'm giving 2 stars for the fact that there are some great variety of Asian beauty supplies (some reasonably priced, others not so much) offered at Tao's as well as for the very friendly employees who came by to ask if I needed anything several times.

Testers were fresh and I was able to try out most of the products on my hand while browsing. Besides skincare, they also have tools and makeup! I was shocked to see my beloved Innisfree powder amongst the shelves, along with some TonyMoly and a variety of cute lipsticks and glosses. I came here looking for a specific moisturizer, a pack of eyebrow razors, and any other fun skincare tools I could find. Unfortunately, they didn't carry the brand of skincare I was looking for, and the eyebrow razors were a bit overpriced for my taste. Not sure if the owner is still getting the shop set up or if she just got a shipment in, but there were a TON of unpacked boxes behind the counter and on the floor. It was a bit difficult to maneuver around the store, and the bottom of my coat was covered in dust from brushing up against the boxes on my way out :( Ultimately, I would suggest coming here if you want personalized recommendations (the owner is very skincare savvy) or if you want to see a product in person before purchasing. They mostly have higher end products and not many brands I use, so I probably won't be back unless I'm in need of my Korean makeup staples.

Skincare, haircare, makeup, and even some beauty tools cover the walls from top to bottom. I stopped by because I was looking for kbeauty sheet masks for the drier weather and ended up leaving with two Dr. Jart masks. These were only $4.25/ea compared to the $6 I would have paid at Sephora. The ladies seemed super nice too. If you're looking for some kbeauty, definitely give this place a shot.

I have had them before, but at a spa/salon in Swampscott (had a Groupon!), and they lashes would fall out in clumps and just looked a mess. My first impressions of the store was - WOW, it is TINY! I wonder where my extensions will take place! It happened to be in a nook of the room behind the cashier's desk, but the adjustable spa bed was pretty comfortable, and although it was a small space, I was still comfortable! At this point, my eyelashes were very short like they were cut off because of the damage done to them from the other spa's poor work. Amy asked me a few questions on how I would like my eyelashes - natural? Was this a one time thing for an event, etc? I wanted them to be natural looking, but long enough so that they were alluring. Amy did exactly that! She spent 2 hours gluing eyelashes on each of my short broken eyelashes. Amy = eyelash saver. And the receptionist/saleswoman/cashier at the front was also SUPER friendly. Since it was at 11am on a Saturday, it was really just the 3 of us in the store, but it felt like the 2 hours was only 20 minutes because we were all cracking jokes, laughing and just shooting the breeze. They were easy going, funny and very friendly. 3 weeks later, I went back for my refill - the eyelashes held up really well, and the refill only took 30-40 minutes and the place has SO MUCH good stuff (skincare, hand lotion, make up, etc). Amy really knows her stuff as she's been in the makeup/skincare/cosmetic industry for decades, although she looks so young!!!!!! Anyway, enough of this. If you want good service, good quality work, and someone who knows her stuff in terms of makeup/skincare/cosmetics, The Beauty Mark is the place to go. No questions about it.
