I've lived in Boston for 7 years.... this store kind of changed my life. 1. Alicia the Aesthetician: I went to her on accident when my regular bikini waxer had to cancel on me. I already had a facial scheduled and she agreed to fit me in for a wax beforehand. I am the most squeamish person when it comes to waxing (I used to take 2 shots before my waxes). She gave me the most pain-free wax, and I had no post-wax rash like I usually did. (I'M a redhead). I've been going for 3 years, now, and recommend her to all of my friends and clients. 2. The best facial I've ever had. Ever. I try to go as religiously as possible. I had acne from age 8 to 22. Enlarged pores and scarring galore. A few treatments with microderm and peels helped so well that I got to switch from full coverage foundation to a light powder. Cannot rave enough. Additionally, my mother HATED facials. She never felt a difference. I bought her one for Christmas and she came out AMAZED and would not stop telling her friends about it. Alicia's ability to custom tailor the facial to your skin and get you what your skin needs is 3. The product. Def try the M61 Power Glow Peels... they show results immediately. The girls are all extremely knowledgeable about the skincare they offer, and their competitors' brands. It's like Disneyland for make-up lovers, and skincare fanatics. read more

This store is TOP TIER! The customer service is usually excellent. Jenny & Isabel are incredible and always go above and beyond for customers. They are exceptional! Sooo knowledgeable on all the products (skincare, fragrances, hair care) - I am always blown away and soooo impressed by their excellence and professionalism. I wish they had a bigger store and more products but probably better for my credit card they don't. They still have an amazing and very curated selection of products. Unfriendly and unhelpful. I walked into this store and two sales assistants just looked at me. No greeting whatsoever. Another only interacted with me when I specifically asked her a question. They did, in fact, have the product I was looking for but I decided to take my business elsewhere. read more

I shop at the Wellesley location the majority of the time. The consultant that I always go to is Sonia. Sonia is very knowledgeable about the products with a good eye for color. In a last minute rush to get my eyebrows done before a friend's wedding and taking off to the airport, I saw Alicia for a last minute appointment. After seeing Alicia I have never receive so many compliments on my brows! She has done wonders to them! Not only is she very friendly, but she also takes her time waxing and shaping them. She even gave me tips on how to fill them in and properly groom them. I wish I could remember the names of the two other women that helped me out, but for the most part the staff is very knowledgeable about the products they have (They carry more high end stuff like NARS and Laura Mercier). While waiting for my appointment with Alicia, I needed to be matched for a new concealer and a lipstick to go with the dress for my friend's wedding. Both girls that helped me definitely took their time and matched me for the perfect concealer and lipstick (both NARS). If you want room to breathe and staff that will take their time educating you on their products I say take a visit to Blue Mercury. Sephora gets way too stuffy for me. Thanks Blue Mercury! In a previous life, I did not know what/who was a Sephora, but depended on weekend visits to Blue Mercury (Princeton, NJ) to stay informed of the latest beauty must-haves from likes of Kiehl's, Dermatologica, Jo Malone, Laura Mercier, and Darphin (love love). Blue Mercury prides itself in boutique-style service and high-end brands. The Newbury store hasn't been in Boston very long but I hope to stop by more often - as it has not yet drawn the masses of people often elbowing one another at Sephora/Prudential. If you already know your regimen and want to shop in quiet space, away from the college-aged shoppers, I highly recommend Blue Mercury. I knocked down a star because I wanted to test-drive Tocca's Cleopatra perfume, but there was no tester and the salesgirl was not accommodating with my request - she also gave me the feeling that she didn't really want me there asking her any questions read more

Went to BM on Newbury in Boston and have to say that Rachel was one of the nicest and most helpful BM employees I have had the opportunity to engage with. I realize that so much is online in life and especially during Covid, however, if you can go into the store, I do believe that the experience is by far so much better. I came here for an eyeliner in a specific color family and specific consistency. The woman who waited on me showed me products nothing like I asked for, in colors not remotely close. In fact, she told me what I wanted didn't exist. This is not true (I found exactly what I wanted elsewhere). What may be true is the store didn't carry such a product, but they wouldn't admit it. Not only were the staff not helpful and really not paying attention to what I asked for, they were somewhat nasty and dismissive. After this most recent treatment, I've decided not to shop at Bluemercury. There are several other stores that offer excellent, patient service and have incentive programs. read more

Other branches give TONS of samples. This branch is incredibly stingy. You get one sample if you beg. For the prices, they should be more generous! Go to another branch. They give out 5-10 samples and they're good ones too. read more

I would recommend calling ahead and making an appointment, since she books up so far in advance. Also a great place if you are looking for any makeup or skincare advice. I love this place. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Super knowledgable about products, great at makeup, and awesome customer service. However this review is specifically on Alicia, the esthetician. She is absolutely incredible. She has been shaping (and transforming) my eyebrows and giving me the most incredible facials for over a year. She keeps my skin flawless and gives the best product recommendations to make sure my at home routine keeps my skin flawless. I am extremely picky because I am in the beauty industry and have been going to my dermatologist forever for facials. Now its all about Alicia and I can never see anyone else. I love love love the girls at Bluemercury. Every time I go into the store they are always so welcoming. A few reasons i really love them is that they actually know what they are talking about! Unlike other beauty stores. Another reason I really love them is that they actually let you look around without being on top of you, but they are always there for assistants if needed! She is a miracle worker with eyebrows (and I say this as someone with "fuller" brows) and always takes the time to make sure she is using the best wax given the body part/type of skin. Ended up in here sort of by accident - I was hoping to get my eyebrows done at Benefit, but they said they had too many walk-ins to take me (on a Wednesday evening, grr). Blue Mercury is right next door, so I swung in and they said they could take me in a half an hour. Well, my brows look awesome! I have tricky sparse brows that do not have a lot of natural shape, but the aesthetician showed me how to fake a great arch with a pencil and some tasteful waxing. I cannot believe how different they look, actually framing my face. She talked to me a little about skincare too, testing some gentle products on my face, but she didn't pressure me into purchasing them at all. Now I'm thinking about returning for microdermabrasion. Either way when I start to lose my brow shape again I will definitely come back! read more

I can't say enough good things about Blue Mercury. I used to frequent their Georgetown and Dupont circle stores exclusively when I lived in DC for all beauty related products and recently stumbled upon the Newbury St. store when I was in desperate need of a brow wax. If you need a good brow wax, there is no one better in the city than Alicia. Worth every penny. I've tried many places and i'm usually weary of Newbury St. because of the crowds and I feel like I'm just another customer. Not with Alicia. She spends as much time with you as she needs to and has gone out of her way to show me different products and do my make up for special occasions, without ever once making me feel rushed or pressured to buy products. Krystina is also awesome. So patient and helpful. I should also mention I usually head over to the store after work and make the last appointment. I walked out with everything I wanted however the $50 serum I bought there ended up making my face more dry...but that's not their fault. The reason I three star this place is because i needed a liquid face foundation that matched my tones - my face and neck were not matching. The girl helping me when I first came in seemed not entirely sure of herself. But I trusted her. She gave me a face foundation that matched my more pale face. Another worker happened to assist me a bit later and realized what the 1st worker gave me - the foundation should match my neck so they aren't contrasting. The second worker was much more helpful and very confident in what she was talking about - she even was telling the first girl WHY to pick the foundation she did. My question is, shouldn't you already know this? Why am I a guinea pig here. I can only imagine if I spent the money on the wrong foundation... (I ended up spending over $275 here and most beauty places give you a goody or something...kinda disappointed I only got a couple samples but that's not the reason I 3 star this place.) read more

All of the girls are very helpful and genuinely want to help. Alicia has also performed several facials for me. They have all left me with glowing, clear skin.
