I came here based on reviews that I read off of Yelp. I specifically came here for eyelash extensions. I have had them before, but at a spa/salon in Swampscott (had a Groupon!), and they lashes would fall out in clumps and just looked a mess. My first impressions of the store was - WOW, it is TINY! I wonder where my extensions will take place! It happened to be in a nook of the room behind the cashier's desk, but the adjustable spa bed was pretty comfortable, and although it was a small space, I was still comfortable! At this point, my eyelashes were very short like they were cut off because of the damage done to them from the other spa's poor work. Amy asked me a few questions on how I would like my eyelashes - natural? Was this a one time thing for an event, etc? I wanted them to be natural looking, but long enough so that they were alluring. Amy did exactly that! She spent 2 hours gluing eyelashes on each of my short broken eyelashes. Amy = eyelash saver. And the receptionist/saleswoman/cashier at the front was also SUPER friendly. Since it was at 11am on a Saturday, it was really just the 3 of us in the store, but it felt like the 2 hours was only 20 minutes because we were all cracking jokes, laughing and just shooting the breeze. They were easy going, funny and very friendly. 3 weeks later, I went back for my refill - the eyelashes held up really well, and the refill only took 30-40 minutes and the place has SO MUCH good stuff (skincare, hand lotion, make up, etc). Amy really knows her stuff as she's been in the makeup/skincare/cosmetic industry for decades, although she looks so young!!!!!! Anyway, enough of this. If you want good service, good quality work, and someone who knows her stuff in terms of makeup/skincare/cosmetics, The Beauty Mark is the place to go. No questions about it. read more

The shop is cute, fast and the lash extensions LAST! All of the reviews are accurate, including the ones where the folks who work there engage in some pretty funny convos with customers and since the space is small, you hear everything! For a full set it runs about $100 -- maybe more if they have to use more. To get fills about $80. The only gripe I have, and it's not Beauty Mark's fault but the thing with lash extensions is that I do think it messes up your OG lashes a little -- but that was my choice, no one pushed lashes on me or anything! lol. read more

Some day, I want a house with a huge, walk-in vanity area for me to do my primping. (No, not my pimping, my primping). Said room would look exactly like the Beauty Mark, colored in French blue with white & chocolate brown accents. The place is lovely. I fell in love with the blue vases that doubled as necklace displays. Forget about the products & services, come here just for the sheer beauty of the Beauty Mark! But the other stuff is good too. Of the 70 billion (or should I make it an even trillion) manicures I've had in my lifetime, not one manicurist has ever offered to clean my jewelry for me, until last night. It seems like such a simple thing but I was really impressed. The staff was extremely helpful and although they are all beautiful, there is a realness about them that doesn't make you feel inferior once you step in the door. Amy, the owner, put some make-up on me and I looked fabulous. Not lying. They have an event where you can stop in here and bring your own make-up and they'll do a consultation with you on how to have your make-up work for you, telling you what is and isn't right for you. I can't wait to try it. Oh, and if anyone reading this happens to know my husband, could you tell him that there is a gorgeous, chunky, blue-ish opal drop necklace in there that was made for me? I. LOVE. THE BEAUTY MARK! I have been going here for at least 2 years now to get my eyelashes done as well as grab great gifts for my girlfriends - but more on that in a minute... I used to work at a store nearby and one day a customer walk in with these amazing eyelashes! She confessed that they were extensions and that Amy at the Beauty Mark did them. I was so impressed, I immediately booked an appointment and I've never looked back. Amy is a PRO. And she's super quick. She knows what types of lashes work well for one's face, however, if you have an event or some special occasion that requires a more dramatic look, she can give you super long lashes and they make quite the impact. Amy & Beauty Mark are not a well kept secret any longer so if you do want to get lashes done - I recommend make an appointment well in advance as Amy books up very quickly, esp during Summer w/ weddings, etc. And while you're in there, they have GREAT skincare/ Beauty products as well as great, unique jewelry. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Walking into this place, is like walking into every woman's fantasy with makeup, jewelry, high-end hair products, self-tanners...and that's not even mentioning the many services they provide! I LOVE the Beauty Mark. I've been twice for lash extensions and have nothing but rave reviews for this place. The first time I went, I was a little nervous. I didn't know what the procedure would entail...especially one that lasted close to two hours. It was painless, easy...I even took a little nap as Amy very meticulously placed a lash on each of my own lashes. And when I was done, I had a gorgeous new set of lashes that looked fantastic for at least 6 weeks. I just went yesterday because I a) had been wanting them again and b) saw the promotion they were running. Jacquie did an AMAZING job. I went out last night and got sooo many compliments on them...they are absolutely beautiful. Both ladies are awesome and so easy to talk to; which makes it a huge bonus that you're not completely bored laying there. I would highly, highly recommend. I totally meant to check out a necklace after I was done but was running late and had lost my credit card. Hey All, This is the hardest review for me to write because now everyone will know my secrets - The Beauty Mark & Beauty Bar are a girls secret weapon against looking old and tired. In particular the lashes, I've had lashes from other salons that left me looking more like Tammy Fay Baker but with Amy's skillful hands they look like the natural lashes of a wide-eyed girl of sixteen- flirty and fun. I came here for eye lash extensions and spray tans. There are 2 locations across the street from each other in Beacon Hill, so it gets a little confusing when making appointments and what not- but they are both owned by the same person and are both really cute spots. Amy did my eye lashes and they came out really nice and natural looking. They last much longer than other places that my friends have experienced. I'm going on almost a month and of course some have fallen out but they look great for the most part. It's going to be an addictive habit! The spray tan is also great. They use st. tropez products, the color comes out natural, and it does not streak at all or get blotchy when it starts to come off. The one negative is price- I bought a gilt city voucher for this service, and don't think I would pay the full price that the salon charges. Anything over $50 for a 5 minute service and tan that only lasts a few days seems silly to me. read more

I live in Beacon Hill but before you judge, I'm not the person who went to the Beauty Mark to buy tons of makeup! I was in a wedding recently where the color of the dress was, dare I say, BRIGHT. I being pasty white was forced to answer the eternal question: To Tan or not to Tan? Socrates I am not so I said I better. Walked past the beauty mark and saw they did airbrush tanning. With my knowledge limited to Sunset Tan (blush) on E, I thought the process looked simple enough. I just didnt have the fake chichis to go with it! The owner, who's sheer fabulousness, was kind and the staff interested in me. After a long process of getting the booth set up (which appears they dont do the tanning too often as it was like packed away in the way back) I was handed a temporary bandeau top and away she went. She took her time and was careful to not spray my eyes or mouth. She was careful on elbows and really explained the process. It took a LONG time much longer than the promised "Sun in Ten Minutes!" When I left, the color was developing nicely. It felt like it wasnt even on my skin (and I have VERY sensitive skin). It looked great and really flattered the dress. The only down side was there was some minor streaking on one arm and my arm pits were white-er than the rest of the tan but not too noticeable. It was pricey, well more expensive than a mystic tan or tanning at $35+ for HALF BODY (waist to face) I'd recommend it highly and then when I get that big new job, I'll go there for 200$ beauty creams :) read more

After posting this review, I had another eyelash extension appointment to refill them. Amy, the owner, addressed my qualms about her boutique and explained things to me. Here is the general gist of her responses: the store is more of a boutique that offers extra services rather than an actual spa Both Amy and Jackie are mothers and have children to drop off in the morning so they might be running late because of that and the first lash appointment is at 11:15 to allow for these instances. Since my friend had referred me, they thought that she had already told me everything. So, she gave me an overview of what the lashes and glue were made out of, how they worked, and how I should properly take care of them. I understand her excuses, but, at the same time, having her say these things to me were not necessarily helpful. She did not offer to change in anyway besides giving me the brief overview of what they were made out of... Regardless, I felt like I was not necessarily being treated with respect. read more

I came running in here after having a heated conversation about family and wedding planning and being absolutely stressed out. When Amy (the owner) asked me how I was, I just couldn't fathom any small talk and just told her how I felt about planning a wedding (it sucks!), and she offered to get me a glass of wine!! I can't even tell you how awesome that was and it definitely relaxed me. I got a Rue La La voucher for a pedi & mani, including $10 off toward product, and settled into the tiny alcove where Val made my fingers & piggies look great. The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is that she was a little over enthusiastic with the cuticle trimmer and a few of me cuticles were sore for days. I'll just ask her to lighten up on the trimming next time. And most of my nails broke on the sides about a week later from vigorous back & forth filing. Overall, a great little place. read more

No call to us to explain the reason or enable us to make alternative plans. This kind of responsibility is an indication of how they think about quality. She also gave me a great makeup lesson and did my makeup, which looked wonderful for the whole night afterwards. I've never had such helpful advice about makeup application. I was blessed with brown hair and blond eyelashes, so when I saw a friend who had her lash extensions done I asked her where she went and she told me the Beauty Mark. They looked so natural I couldn't wait to get them myself. Well, patience isn't a virtue for me and I actually wound up getting my first lash extensions at a "nail" salon I happened to be in for a manicure the next day.... on the other side of Boston. Well, let's just put it this way, that was a big mistake. I called Beauty Mark immediately to see if they could help repair my cheap eyelashes . Amy the owner had me come in to the Beauty Mark, they removed the "mistake" eyelashes and set me up with a new set a few days later. The difference in Beauty Mark and their approach compared to the other salon was night and day. They actually cared about me as a customer and as a person. My new lashes from the Beauty Mark were amazing. They look natural and I was getting tons of compliments (even my Father said my eyes looked great, of course he couldn't quite pinpoint why). Well that was about four months ago and I am hooked. I've had both Amy and Jackie do my extensions and fills and both are excellent. I've had a few friends go to lash places in NY and they stare at my lashes and want to know where I got them. This is a beauty regime that is well worth keeping up. read more

this review is for eyelash extensions only!!!! So, first off, if you come here for lash extensions, your lashes will not be ruined. They're safe, clean, and the workers know what they're doing. My biggest problems with this place was the customer service. It SUCKS. The owner was on the phone half the time, waiting on other customers, chatting with the other girl working there... pretty much anything and everything but focusing on me... the client. Like, I'm paying TWO HUNDRED BUCKS for this service, why the heck are you taking phone calls?! Like, once is one thing, I'm talking the entire two hours. At the end of my service I had a few questions, and as I'm trying to ask them I was LITERALLY interrupted by another customer and the owner waited on that other person. I'm like, oh.... okay.... -.- Whatever brand they're using doesn't look super natural, they're a little more on the "spider-y" side. I liked them, they can look very dramatic, but I think other brands look more natural. So, bottom line, you won't have major problems, but there are places that will treat you better. read more

Plain and simple. The place will zappp you a "late fee" of $40+ if you get your eyelash filled after 4 weeks.. regardless of how well your extensions are holding up. You're basically signing a contract without actually signing a contract which somehow doesn't even seem legal, but whatever. I always get my eyelash extensions done by Corey. You'll have to call ahead of time to get an appointment and they always do their best to fit you in. I've had eyelash extensions from other places and these tend to last the longest. I haven't been to their new location but I'm sure the quality will be just as great! read more

Cori did a nice job on my eyelash extensions so the 3 star rating is mainly about the location. They should really invest in a better space for eyelash extensions. The room is a poorly ventilated closet and the amount of noise is extremely uncomfortable and aggravating. As you are laying down for an hour + you hear doors slamming, loud voices,feet stomping and hair tools being used non stop. Its really unpleasant and a big reason why i stopped going here to get my eyelashes done. read more

Even three months later I am still going strong with The Beauty Mark! I shall never, ever stray. Frankly, I don't trust anyone else near my eyes (lashes, brows, makeup...you just can't go wrong). Cori rocks hardcore and I have converted many of my lash loving friends and family to her as well. She fits my ridiculous schedule in, I always leave feeling "human" again and whenever I have some seemingly awful beauty ailment (aka the dreaded massive pimple, the chapped lips that I need a tinted miracle for, etc) she always figures out what I need to do to correct it. Amy saved my life... well maybe not my life but certainly my lashes! I walked into The Beauty Mark with a mess of eyelash extensions. Amy was so kind, patient and sweet, spending over an hour removing the hack job that the previous person did. She wanted to make sure that I didn't lose any of my natural lashes and was extremely gentle, always making sure that I wasn't experiencing any discomfort (of which I didn't). She then spent two more hours (past close) applying lashes the way that they should be and now I have beautiful lashes that look so amazingly natural. The store itself is super cute and quaint and the other girl working (I forget her name) seemed really sweet as well. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone. I thought it was a good investment to purchase a voucher from Rue La La for this place because I am a student and trying to save cash. Thought by going to this place I would receive a professional upscale mani n pedi. Boy was I wrong. First time I call they over booked and waited until 45 minutes before the appointment to tell me. She claim to give me a free treatment but I had to remind her about it because she did not make a record of it like she promised. When I finally got an appointment, I found the place is very disorganize as the owner left her poor workers by themselves as customers waited to receive help. Many people left why others found help in each other. The person who did my treatment was good at painting but everything else was mediocre. My feet were still rough and the paint started to chip in less than 48hours! The eyebrow plucking was awful as she plucked one more than the other. The products they sell in the store are over priced and can be brought online or sephora. The only good qualities about this place is the painting and the random lady who volunteers there but does not actually work there. Otherwise your better off going to a cheaper salon or someplace on Newbury. read more

I didn't even get my service, but I'm a fan! This place is small, but it's well put together, has amazing products, and unique gifts. Amy, the owner was very lovely and happy to answer my many questions, even though she was working with a client. She was also unhappy to tell me that the girl scheduled to do my spray tan had a personal emergency. No, I didn't get my service, but what I LOVED, was that no one passed the buck, and everyone TRIED. She tried to get me a sub, and that made me feel like I was in a place that actually cared about me, even though I was a tourist. Unfortunately, I had plans with the family, so I couldn't make it back, but even so, the next day I got a phone call from the practitioner who was very sweet and very apologetic. All in all, not so bad...I got to check out some cool products I'd never seen, and some favorites that I had. I got to see another part of Boston and I got to meet a very cool woman in business. She even took extra time to make sure my eyelashes looked perfect for my wedding, which I think is really great considering how long it takes to do eyelash extensions in the first place! I moved to Boston from NYC a few months ago. It was harder than I had expected to find a good eyelash extension location as there are only a few in the Back Bay/Beacon Hill area. However, after doing some research I found the Beauty Mark! I have gone there a few times and always had a wonderful experience. They are reasonably priced, have excellent customer service and I have been very pleased with the lashes. Although the accomodations are not fancy, they are clean and welcoming! The only thing to know is that there is only one person servicing eyelash extensions at a time, so plan ahead with appointments. I am a huge fan and highly recommend the Beauty Mark! read more

I've never been here for any sort of makeup/skincare service, but I did stop by looking for some makeup on my way home one afternoon. The staff are very friendly, which is a plus. But, I was looking for an oil free foundation (or even concealer), and they did not offer ANY that were oil-free. Surely I'm not the only person who has oily skin, so I can't imagine why they wouldn't stock at least one oil-free foundation-like product. I have been a loyal customer for about 8 years. Recently I went in to purchase specific makeup and the salesperson gave me the wrong color. I did not realize this until I got home and I applied it. I contacted the store and they informed me that since I opened it their policy is not to exchange it. I reiterated that their salesperson made the error and I simply wanted the correct product to rectify the situation. I was informed that the owner would have to discuss this with me. After leaving 2 messages I received a disappointing return phone call---where the owner took no responsibility for her employees error and continued to repeat her "policy" to me. I was left with zero options to obtain the product I went in for---although the free make-up application she offered seems a bit silly considering it won't make the incorrect color the correct one. I reminded the owner that I can get the same products in other retail stores or even on-line for a much better price with no "policy" issues (i.e Sephora, www.skinmedix.com, www.completeskincare.net, www.dermstore.com). I love this store! Every time I've been in there, the salespeople are friendly and knowledgeable. And laid-back. I usually hate shopping for make-up because the salespeople are pushy and want me to buy something ghastly (but it's new! And Expensive! riiiight.)
