In summary: even if it's a bit chaotic, stick with it for a phenomenal haircut. Alexander Salon has a very warm friendly atmosphere, but it was very busy (supplemented by the dog running around!). I had an appointment with Nader, and when I arrived, the receptionist immediately washed my hair. I was a bit confused because I had not had any kind of consultation about my hair type or desired cut, but I stuck with it. I then had to wait, and Nader came by a few times to apologize for running late. After about 15 min, we spoke briefly about what I wanted and he cut my hair--as other reviews shared it was a real show with scissor flourishes and spins. The actual haircut was very fast and then Nader said that other hairdressers would blow dry my hair while he moved on to other clients. What proceeded was three different stylists each came by, blew dry parts of my hair before being called away to do another task, leaving my hair half-dried and hanging in round brushes until the next one showed up. Finally one man finished up and after Nader was done filming what looked like a before/after transformation for instagram with another client, he came by for a finishing touch. During the experience I was pretty doubtful and while everyone was polite, it wasn't the smoothest customer service experience. I didn't realize Nader was handling multiple clients at the same time and with all the hairdryers leaving mid-service it felt like I wasn't important enough to receive anyone's full attention. However, my hair looked incredible, the blow out lasted for a full week, and my hair continued to look incredible after washing and regardless of whether I curled or straightened it. I've never received so many compliments and almost a year later, now in a different state, I'm looking at photos of that haircut as a reference. This may have been an unusually busy day so grain of salt. But, overall, if you're looking for the classic bouncy layered haircut with face-framing pieces this is your place!! Just be prepared for a bit of chaos.

He was very nice explaining how to style it after the cut and also explained the details of his work :) The salon itself was clean and bright. I was confused at first, but it is the corner salon right off the block! I think he is also a very sweet and chill person and has a lot of experience cutting hair! I think if you tell him some details he will give you good advice. You should definitely try the salon if you're looking to cut all sorts of styles, especially Asian hair. The highlights placement was completely different from what I asked for, the cut was significantly shorter than requested, and the styling honestly made everything look worse. What's most frustrating is that I felt like my concerns and requests were largely ignored throughout the appointment. I left feeling shocked and upset, especially given the price (450) and the salon's reputation. I'm posting this because I genuinely would like the salon to make this right, whether through a refund or correction with a different stylist.

Case in point; I first heard of Augusto when at a restaurant I saw a woman in her early 20's whose hair was so stunning and flattering I just had to ask who her stylist was. She mentioned Augusto. Still leery of venturing out (what if this girls hair was a one-off? What if he gave the same exact haircut to every girl regardless of any other factor? What if my unruly hair is too much for this virtuoso to handle?) I did not call or make an appointment, just a mental note. Then, some time later, I met a woman in her mid 50's who had a completely different but equally flattering look. She happened to volunteer in conversation that she was a long time devotee of this Augusto that was recommended to me before. What? This as-yet-unknown-to-me man was able to cut two completely different hair styles for two completely different lengths and types of hair on women from two completely different generations, and pull off a striking look for both?? I was sold! As someone who knows relatively little about hair I am able to give him a very vague idea of what I have in mind and he inevitably will come up with something simply PERFECT. I have very thick, wavy, course hair which I have been told is a challenge to cut. Well, I know from personal experience that it is definitely a challenge to style!! Augusto changes all that. Every time I leave his chair I manage to feel gorgeous, with a cut that I am very happy with. Apparently I don't only feel gorgeous but also look that way, because I have been so many times complimented on my hair I have had to recommend so many people. Better still, I can always style the cut easily!! It's only a bonus that Augusto, through his professionalism and charisma, manages to make a friend of every client. He is friendly in a very unobtrusive way. Several very fun and interesting people wander into his shop, some of them for their hair appointment and others simply to stop by and say hello to Augusto and all of his guests. He will take his time on your hair and his painstaking attention to detail is seen in the results. You may have to wait a few moments, but it is one hundred percent worth it. I don't mind waiting as I know when the scissors hit my hair, the job will never be rushed. With my hair type, to be able to find a stylist who listens to your preferences, is able to find a cut that is very flattering for you within your desires, and makes it manageable for a novice to recreate at home on a daily basis, has proved a lifelong impossibility until now. Augusto is the needle in the haystack!!

Then this last visit I showed her a photo of what I wanted - a very blunt shoulder length bob. Pretty simple. I was there 20 minutes tops and wasn't shown the back with a mirror, and when I got home and looked with my own mirror, I found the cut was uneven, angled, and longer at the front. Sure it looked nice after being blow dried, and I typically play around with my hair afterwards to to be sure the cut flows nicely, but I felt uncomfortably rushed with her standing at the register waiting for me. The floor should also be swept between each client. That was definitely my last visit there.

He hacks away and finished without once asking me about the sideburns or back. I put my glasses back on and, lo and behold, I'm greeted with the middle-aged "can I speak to your manager" lady at your local Walmart who's a self-proclaimed freelance musician dropping her next hit single "vaccines cause autism". Dude was nice tho.
