She did a fantastic job listening to what I wanted and making my vision come to life. I deducted one star because my appointment was for Event/Glam Photoshoot Make Up and Dyson Bouncy Curl Blow Out, but I didn't end up getting a blow out. She styled my hair with a flat iron but I was still charged for a bouncy curl blow out which I didn't feel was the same value. Other than that, I was very happy with my experience. read more

Best salon by far in Boston. I've been in Boston almost a decade so I've tried quiet a few different hair salons around the downtown area... I absolutely LOVE ZenaRose. The work is impeccable to a level that I've been stopped by more than one stranger on the street post appointment. They have fantastic pricing and easy booking but what really sets them apart for me is the personalized and comfortable experience in the chair. I've been in salons where you can clearly tell you're their hundredth appointment, they aren't listening to you, they just want to get it done and worst of the staff don't get along with one another. That's not ZenaRose. Every staff member at ZenaRose genuinely gets a long and helps one another out; creating a wonderful atmosphere to spend what is some times more than an hour or two for an appointment. I connected with Kelli on my first visit and no matter what time or day I have booked with her over the years she makes me feel like I'm the only client she's seeing. She is kind, fun and her attention to detail makes me feel so confident when I leave her chair. I had my first every professional make up done by Yuliya today and WOW! I went in with no pictures and stunned with the results. As someone who has never gotten their makeup done I wasn't sure what to expect. Yuliya made me very comfortable, most notably making sure to pause to let me blink while she was doing my eye make up. I hadn't even realized I needed to blink and she's pausing for my comfort. Will definitely be back. Last note on booking, I called ten minutes before they closed the night before I needed a morning appointment. Fully expecting that a Saturday morning in late Feb would be booked solid, I got a call back in less than 10 minutes saying they had worked something out and it's all booked. Incredible experience and they're my new go-to hair salon for a trim in the area! Made an appointment online and showed up 10 mins early but was taken care of immediately. They offer tea/drinks as well and felt like a really upscale concierge service without the upcharge and upsell. 5 stars for an amazing experience all around from the luxurious hair wash with delicious smelling shampoo and keratose treatment, to the no nonsense cut that made me look and feel incredibly polished, professional, and put together. What a great experience top to bottom. I was in town for less than 24 hours for a wedding. I quickly and easily booked a hair and makeup appointment online two days before I arrived. First win. Then I woke up to an email from the airline saying the flight was delayed an hour. Then another two hours. I called and left a voicemail as soon as I could before they were open. I told them I would probably miss both appointments if they kept delaying my flight. When it was confirmed that we would indeed take off I called them back to let them know I could probably make the makeup appointment if they could push it back and find a friend from the wedding to take my hair appointment. The lady at the front desk was super understanding and happy to switch out another wedding guest to take my place for a blow out. I made it in time to get my makeup done by Liza. She was so sweet and so professional. I only wear foundation and have lash extensions. I don't know how to put on eye makeup. I had a bright blue dress and she put in pops of blue. It was so fun and I felt fabulous! The customer service, understanding of my travel delays and final product were all so amazing. If you need to get dolled up on a Sunday morning, and you don't know how to do it yourself, there aren't a whole bunch of options. However, ZenaRose out on Beacon Hill, is one of them. Permit parking is the name of the game, however, there are a few Visitor Parking spots, and further afield are the meter parking, and an underground parking lot beneath Boston Common. Having driven by one of many Sunday events happening at the Hatchshell not that far off, I was wondering how parking would go, but lucked into a visitor spot on a corner. Events price quote from their website (10/2019): Up-Style - $65/75/85 Makeup (includes lashes) - $65/75/85 *airbrush make up + $50 I had made my appointment in June (when the website was quoting: Up-Style $55/65/75/85; Makeup (includes lashes) $50/65/75/85) and upon my request for a quote was given a rate of $60 makeup and $55 upstyle with Estefania - Not quite sure what happened, as somehow I ended up being charged $125. I admit that I'm not the ideal beauty shop customer. I'm not familiar with what's proper and what's do-able. All I knew was that I wanted something natural looking, since I don't normally wear make-up, and that I needed my hair swept off to one side. I warned her about the particulars of my eye lids and lips that I had learnt over my limited applications over the years, and informed her that I had been told that my hair holds curls well. I had wisely washed my hair the day prior (not the morning of) so there would be some natural grease, and had scrubbed away at any dry lip skin over the week. Having figured I would need to reapply lipstick over the stretch of the day, I had brought my own lipstick, having matched it well to my dress. Yup, I ended up reapplying at least trice. She was friendly and spent extra time on me since I was a bit unsure about how I wanted the back of my head to look. I prefer to listen rather than talk when I am in the chair, and she was amiable. The hair held up fine. My eye make up however ended up smudging along my bottom lid. Yup, raccoon eyes. I wonder if that were something that could have been warded against... Fortunately it was more noticeable close up - from a distance I still looked okay, though my small smiley Asian eyes were even tinier and near shut looking in some of the reception photos. Tips for self - bring q-tips in case of eye make-up issues. And roll or dab, don't wipe. (Don't take my 3 stars as a negative. For me, 3 stars is okay, and for me, getting my hair and make-up done, and wearing it all day thusly is a chore. Not to mention getting it all off afterwards... But that's what you do for friends! But it also means I'm not going to love the process.) Marina, Estefania, and the receptionist were all nice and friendly, and want you to be happy with how you look. I was offered coffee and water. Marta was able to see me within 24 hours and ensured that we were on the same page with what I wanted - she even stayed a bit later than we were scheduled for to do an olaplex treatment to ensure my hair wasn't too damaged from all the bleaching. Got a fabulous Brazilian blowout from Brit last week! I wanted to wait to see the results before writing my review, and I couldn't be happier! I found this salon through its popular reviews on Yelp, and even still it completely exceeded my expectations. The salon is really cute and all of the staff I encountered is very sweet and friendly. I was offered a glass of wine when I arrived, and my stylist was on time and ready. Prior to my appointment, she had me come in for a consultation to explain everything, answer my questions and help me feel confident I wasn't going to be damaging my hair with the process. Everything went smoothly and I could immediately tell my hair was less frizzy, shinier and appeared fuller than when I had come in. She gave me some great recommendations on hair care and sent me home with some samples to try. Needless to say, I'll certainly be back for my next appointment... I went in for a haircut (my hair was waistline) asking for 4 inches. The longest part, the back, has about 8 inches off. I asked for a long layer starting at chest line- the shortest layer is barely covering my NECK! I clearly pointed out where I wanted the shortest point to be, and the hairdresser agreed, and what I have now is much shorter. I think this place is good, actually, but you need to be VERY clear and repeat yourself over and over (clearly) to get what you're looking for. My bridesmaids and I got our hair and makeup done by Britt and Ri on my wedding day (in-salon package). I could not be happier with how our whole ZenaRose experience went! The scheduling with Carolyn was a breeze, and she is an absolute delight. Then, from my trial with Britt, I could see how much expertise she had, how well she worked with the rest of the ZenaRose team, and how willing she was to listen to my preferences. I am Asian and was a bit worried at how she would handle my eye makeup, but we tried a couple of different things and she totally nailed it! Plus, I also have dyed blond hair, and Britt squeezed me in for a gloss two weeks before the wedding to get the color just right (which worked great even though I had done an unfortunate at-home toner). On the day of, Britt and Ri were NON STOP from the second we got there, getting us done even a couple minutes ahead of schedule. I booked a makeup appointment for myself and a friend before a wedding two months in advance, and it was canceled by Zena Rose after a month. By the time it was canceled, I wasn't able to find any other makeup artists nearby who had availability since it's wedding season. When I asked why the appointment was canceled so late, I was told that the stylists were "no longer available" and given no additional information after asking for further clarification. Now these two stylists are no longer on their website, so it sounds like there is some instability here. They let me know that I would be put on the cancellation list if any appointments opened, but I never heard anything. I had been getting haircuts here from one of the stylists who left, and after this super unprofessional experience, I won't be back for any services. Beacon Hill Hair is close by and a much better experience! read more

From the very moment you walk into the salon it's like a breath of fresh air (and when you're wearing a mask that's bliss). The salon is so cute and stylish, I love their interior. The staff is amazingly friendly, everyone greets you and is extremely accommodating. The location of the salon is great, too. It's a 10 minute walk away from either the red, green or orange line so it's very accessible. My hair was cut and colored by Andrae. I can't recommend him enough, he is so talented! He sees your hair and makes art with it. He leaves you feeling so confident it's hard not to love yourself. I can't see anyone else cutting my hair in the future so you can count on me becoming a regular. Andrae is a great stylist and colorist, and the other hair stylists there are gifted as well. I received a balayage touch-up by Karina on August 9th and I had an amazing experience at ZenaRose! I have had Karina color my hair in the past (she did my original balayage in January) at a different salon, but we have been friends since October and I wanted to follow her journey at her new salon. She is such a gem, and if you have the pleasure of having your hair colored by Karina, you are in for a real treat. She is so kind and her spirit is so gentle. I feel better just being around her and I trust that she will style my hair just how I ask her to. The owner of ZenaRose, Marina, was present while I was receiving my service. She came right up to me while I was in the chair and introduced herself, which I thought was very sweet. I had read on her website that her dad built some the shelves and reception desk, and we bonded a bit over that because my dad does carpentry work as well and he has built shelves in my home, too. Her kind introduction made me that much happier that I was supporting a local, female-owned business. After a great color with Karina, she washed and blow-dried my hair for me, and I left the beautiful Beacon Hill salon feeling like a million bucks. They were a bit busy as I was preparing to leave, so we did not take any photos as usual, but I will attach a photo of my hair a few days post-color so you can see how nice the balayage looks. A nice touch: I received samples of the Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner that Karina had used in my hair, and actually got a few uses (rather than just one) with the samples she made for me. I totally loved the products, and now I want more! Definitely a great incentive to give customers a tester so they can feel more confident buying the product full-sized. WOW. Talk about exemplary service and amazing results! I felt like a million bucks (minus $200) when I left the salon and I cannot wait to come back for a touch-up! Even though the salons here on San Francisco reopened, I still am not in a hurry to go with the numbers of new covid cases go up. At the same time, I had a gallery review scheduled and I needed to do something with my roots - first impression and all. I never used out of the box color because I respect my long beautiful hair :) So I turned to www.zrlabs.co In a few days, I got a cool pinky box with all the tools I needed including gloves and combs, and 2 bottles of nice smelling cream. Through video-chat Marina guided me on how to mix and apply the product while not making a mess. Then I enjoyed my Pinterest feed for 40 min and it was done. The paint holds nice while being gentle to my sensitive skin - better than some of my previous salon experiences. But it's true that I asked for a very gentle color specifically - with Marina it's all customizable:) I am now thinking, maybe I will stick with these boxes instead of salons until I need a haircut too :) What I would add is maybe other products I could apply to my hair on occasion (like opening or gallery review) - maybe I could shop them with the main box. I almost didn't want to write a review on ZenaRose because I wanted it to be my secret. Amazing hair stylists are so hard to find, even in a city like Boston. But this place is too good not to share. The salon is conveniently located in Beacon Hill, on a quaint street away parallel to Charles St. When you first step into ZR, you'll notice the decor is a mix of old world charm and modern elegance, there's floral accent wall that you can't miss. Very instagrammable. Pleasant environment to be in. It's a big departure from other salons in the area that are overly loud, rushed, and impersonal. I went in for a cut and highlights with Alexa. She is a great listener, easy to talk to, and most importantly delivered on what I was looking for! I showed her a photo of a model with natural highlights and she adapted the subtle chocolately look on me. For my cut, she gave me gorgeous layers without taking off too much length. It was everything! Alexa revived my hair and gave it body, bounce, and soft texture. I left feeling great and my hair smelled salon freshhhhh! I really enjoyed my experience at ZR. Maybe because I was the last appointment that day and the only client there but I think it's because the customer service is professional and top notch. They care about your hair but weren't pushy with products. Kel (front desk) and Alexa even sent me off with samples of shampoo and conditioner that they thought would work best for my hair type. Alexa did a fantastic job on my hair and make up for my wedding. I was travelling from abroad for my wedding so everything I booked was a bit of a gamble but this one definitely paid off. I booked Alexa for a trial and I also booked her and her assistant Alex to come to our hotel on the day of the wedding to do the hair and make up of the bridal party. Alexa was a pleasure, she made me feel at ease throughout the whole process. I am not one that generally likes being centre of attention or being photographed but Alexa did such a good job that I didn't mind any of that on the day because I felt that I looked the part once she was done with me. It is rare that I would feel happy about my appearance but she made me feel pretty for the day. I just got home from my honeymoon after getting married this past Saturday, and I literally ran to my computer to express my most sincere gratitude to Marina and everyone at the ZenaRose salon. I can't put into words how thankful I am for everything they did for me that day. Marina, Alexa, and the girls made us look absolutely STUNNING! When I met Marina a few months ago with my mom, I was blown away. First impression is that the salon is absolutely darling, and its prime location in Beacon Hill makes it even more gorgeous.
