THEY RUINED MY HAIR!! Marketing worked on me; a 'luxurious'-sounding salon, on ritzy Charles Street lured me in with the promise of professionalism & talent, and strong, updated hair-related knowledge with good quality products. Wellllll this was not the case here at Luxor Salon/Beacon Hill Hair. What I wanted: a natural transition for my previously dyed salt-n-pepper hair. From the scalp, the first 6 inches of my hair had grown out my natural salt and pepper hair but the bottom part of it was a brassy leftover color from dying my hair brown all these years. I visited them multiple times before my appt to show them my hair and make sure they understood what I wanted. The owner told me that she had a person (Monica) but it was going to be $__ per hour (4x more than what I make an hour...bet she think I was doctor or nurse since I came in with scrubs on??). I got there Friday morning, didn't get out until dark...too many hours for an hourly rate. First she slowly applied "gentle" bleach ("the only way to go") to the back bottom part of my hair...then she had a little snack/break. After that, she slowly does one side of my head...then took a break. Then she slowly made her way to the other side...yes, complete with another break. Knowing that she was making money per hour, she took her time by selecting wafer thin pieces to put in overly large foils that she had to cut each time. After over three and half hours, she finished with the foils of my whole head...all of my hair. I asked if she could check the back to see how it's processing and she looked at a side piece (which she had done second) and said it was still processing. Then she tells me I need to process MORE and proceeds to eat lunch while taking two other clients. I was beside myself knowing that bleach should NOT stay on hair that long (OVER FOUR HOURS!!) Finally she finishes yet another client and decides to take the foils out. Mind you, this whole time, I can see the other two hair dressers shooting each other concerning looks. At one point they are both trying to help her; an all hands on deck situation! If you know who Lucius Malfoy is from the Harry Potter movies, you'll know what I looked like (heinous, fried yellowish white hair). Horrified, I asked what was next. She was like you can either go now, (looking completely atrocious) and come back another time for me to do a toner and weave in brown highlights....or she can do it today. Let me tell you, she was okay to send me out into the world with freakishly grotesque hair, as she was tired and wanted me to come back another time to pilfer even more money with another full day of dilly-dallying/pretending to 'mix'/slipping other client visits...vs knowing that she could only get another few/limited hour's worth of money from me that day. I wasn't walking out like that - and she knew that. So she weaves in a small patch of brown lowlights and then puts a toner in. While that "processed", another snack/break and another client appt was slipped in. After that she asked if I wanted her to blow dry my hair...and I said yes because I wanted to see what it looked like dry.
I didn't raise my voice, I just asked questions. I was so very upset and shocked at her incompetence, unskilled, amateur (and sneaky) techniques that I just paid my bill and left. As I'm leaving, she says to come back so she can add more lowlights and she can tone my hair better...for free (when she realized that I was not happy). The best part? She pettily calls me after I walk out (again no drama) and says she *undercharged* me (they took HUNDREDS upon hundreds of dollars from me already!) but out of the goodness of her heart, she wasn't going to charge me. (I call BS on this sales move, she just wants something to say where she looks generous)
I just wanted to warn people that these are COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL and use shady practices to do their business. They use clairol and other cheap products. They have elementary techniques that you'd expect from an illegal basement chair at Cheap Cutz.
There is NOTHING high end, nor of good quality and talent, about this salon. AVOID IT at all costs. They are NOT what they seem. They are very unprofessional, have zero talent, and no modern hair-related knowledge/techniques, relying on old-school ways, and cheap products. Update: went back in person after two weeks to show them the five different colors of my hair that do NOT blend and after three washes (the blue had finally washed out). The whole salon looked at my hair, spoke Portuguese to each and told me they were satisfied how my hair was and said I should come back in a few weeks and get some lowlights and another service. How much would that cost??!? I asked and nEvEr GoT aN AnSwEr. lol - this was after they asked what products I was using (top end ones, sis;) just so they can blame that instead of taking responsibility for how horrible things turned out... read more
