AWESOME experience!! I found Nest Salon on Yelp as I was looking for a quality and fairly priced haircut downtown near my office. Many things I liked about it: -I was able to book my appointment through the Mind Body app which I frequently use to book workout classes, it was SO convenient!!! -Martha was wonderful, she was so friendly and knew exactly what I wanted. Even just a flatiron and trim made my hair look lovely. I will definitely be going back to her! -It is so cute inside there! The salon is tiny but it's such a little gem, which I did not expect for the location on Bromfield street. One bad thing: I did have to wait about 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment because they were running behind but she still got me out of there and back to work during my lunch break. I found Nest Salon via a Living Social promotion, so I really wasn't sure what to expect. What a lovely experience! The shop is small and beautifully laid out to feel intimate rather than cramped. Jacoal, the owner, chatted with me for a few minutes about my goals for growing out my hair and how best to deal with my okay-but-not-great selfie color. She then grabbed the scissors and dry cut my hair into exactly what I had pictured (but ineffectively described) in what seemed like no time. She then mixed my color, a beautiful rich deep red and applied it. After letting me marinate and washing my hair (sooo relaxing), she blew out the adorable cut with no product at all, and it was gorgeous. She's amazing! A couple of very cool details - Jacoal is passionate about sustainability and ethical products, so the hair care line she carries is vegan, organic, and packaged in food-grade plastic so you can reuse them for your lunch if you like. The shop is decorated with salvaged and repurposed pieces and has a very peaceful and friendly vibe. Both Jacoal and Janet are super nice and friendly. I will definitely be back! read more

I've been living in Boston for two years now and still hadn't managed to find the right stylist. My previous haircuts were fine and competently done, but never quite what I asked for. I'm so happy to that I decided to try Nest. Super-convenient to the Park Street station & DTX, this is an intimate little hair salon with top-notch stylists. I travel a lot for work and am reaaaaally bad about keeping my hair cuts up, so it's not unusual for me to go from mid-length to short. So many stylists hesitate and keep asking if I really mean it. I get that they must deal with women who later change their minds and regret it, but that is not me--I REGRET NOTHING...about short hair, that is. My appointment was with owner Ja'coall. She looked at the pictures I brought and went to town! I wish I had a better after pic, but today was hella hot and humid and raining. Caleb is a GIFT to all those who have the pleasure of having their hair ran through his fingers. I went in without a photo, just knowing that I wanted my hair *carmelized* with some soft highlights. He knows I know absolutely nothing about hair and introduced me to his talented hair painting skills and oh my- it is the most beautiful, bold but soft, subtle but fabulous, my hair has ever looked. I've been hesitant about so many places in Boston ever since I moved here almost four years ago but I know for a fact that I will always go back to Caleb. This was the best salon experience I've had in a while- Martha was great! I went for a cut and balayage. I am a natural redhead with long wavy/curly hair who hasn't colored my hair before. I've had experiences where stylists get stressed and make me feel like I have a wild untamed mess of hair and want to give me puffy layers. Martha immediately understood what I wanted- a trim, some very long layers that don't puff out, and a beachy strawberry balayage. She did a great job and cut my hair dry. This appears to be a nice salon in a really beautiful area of Boston. This salon was very pleasing aesthetically, but I didn't leave to match. The stylist gave me an awkward heavy swoop on one side of the haircut, a style that every stylist I have had since has worked to remedy. I've been browsing for a new salon ever since I moved to Boston, so I was able to book a last-minute appointment with Ja'Coall today for a much-needed haircut on Friday evening after work. I decided to go to Nest because it was convenient to get to and they were offering 20% off for new clients. My previous haircut was a disastrous experience back in December that I was growing out (in September!!!) so I had finally grown it out enough to get my hair back in the blunt bob that I had originally wanted. Nest Salon is small and cozy, and I walked past it several times before I actually found it. Luckily, Ja'Coall was able to take me as soon as I entered and once I gave her a short explanation of my situation and showed her a couple of pictures, she set to work. Firstly, I don't have easy hair to work with. I have VERY thick Asian hair that can be a challenge, and I knew that not every hair stylist has the skill to cut it short and add movement to it. Ja'Coall was able to fix my hair and texturize/ take weight off of my hair easily just the way I wanted. The entire appointment took less than an hour; I was in and out in no time, and completely satisfied with my hair cut! The prices are also reasonable, with or without the 20% discount. I bought a groupon for this salon last spring and made an appointment with Erin after reading her rave reviews. Due to scheduling conflicts, I had to reschedule and I assumed I was rescheduling another appointment with Erin but they gave me a completely different hair stylist, which I was unaware of. Anyway, I wasn't satisfied with the outcome of my haircut but I should've known what to expect since I did purchase a groupon. The hair stylist told me my hair sucked, I wash it too much, and curled and hair sprayed my hair without asking what I wanted. It was horrendous. read more

I made an appointment online on 4/25 for a haircut on 4/27 at 11:15 with Jacoall. It was the only time available, so I figured she had other clients lined up either before or after me. I got a reminder on 4/26 which mentioned to show up at least 5 minutes before the appointment. The morning of my appointment, I left my apartment at about 10:30 and even took an Uber so that I would be on time - only to find that the door was locked and the salon was closed when I got there at 11:02. I then get a notification on my phone of my Uber receipt and that's when I see the email that was sent at 10:27 that morning cancelling my appointment. I had another personal appointment scheduled for 1:00 pm so it was pointless to go home, just to turn around and come right back. Frustrated and still needing a haircut, I called another salon close-by; they took me immediately and made sure I was on time for my 1 o'clock, so at least there was a happy ending. My happy ending, however, doesn't let Nest off the hook. Cancelling an appointment 48 minutes beforehand is extremely unprofessional. In fact, most places that take appointments either request or require that the cancelling party provide at least 24 hours' notice. The cancellation email contained no explanation or apology, but it added insult to injury stating "[y]ou have not been charged for this cancellation. We look forward to serving you again soon." First of all, I absolutely should not be charged for anything. I received no services - only frustration. Better yet, I should charge the salon for my $15 Uber I took from Eastie to make sure I was on time. Second, Nest won't be serving me again soon - or ever - since they have complete disregard for their (potentially new) clients' time. So congratulations, you just lost a client you never had. read more

I tried this salon about 2 and a half months back. I have been growing out my hair for a while and wanted to thin it out a bit - particularly since one side has always been much thicker than the other. I also had gloss some. Both by Jocoall. Went back this last Saturday to thin out thick bangs that had grown out. I just wanted it "thinned out" - not chopped into. The next day - after washing it- I realized the left side was completely chopped up. I called the salon to say that I was very unhappy with my hair. Jacoall emailed me saying she was sorry and could book me for Wednesday with Caleb or Thursday with her. I went back today and saw Caleb. He first said he would fix whatever was wrong. However, as he proceeded to fix it, he realized there wasn't much that could be done. He apologized and offered me my money back. I will NEVER GO BACK!! read more

Where to even begin! Ok, first the good...I first went to see Ja'ocall for a haircut, and she did a wonderful job. Then, I saw Jess for a trim a few months later, and she cut it beautifully and discussed with me thoroughly exactly what I meant by a 'trim.' They were both excellent stylists and I felt like we were on the same page, so I got confident enough to try some balayage. On to the (really, really) bad...Ja'ocall wasn't available for balayage when I needed it done, so I saw Jess. I showed her a few photos of a blogger and we discussed the color and settled on a 'sun kissed' looked and with slightly less blonde than the photos. After my appt, I really loved the color until I tried to do my own hair the next morning. As I was straightening the bottom sections, I began to find extremely choppy and unblended sections of platinum blonde behind my ears that did not match the rest of my head whatsoever!! Freaked out, I called Jess and she was very understanding and booked my an appt with Ja'ocall for a fix. Ja'ocall squeezed me in between seeing other clients and I don't know what happened (maybe the toner was left on too long while she attended to her normally scheduled client?) but I left with COPPER hair. The sections were blended really nicely and it looked professionally done, but the color was horrendous. I'm naturally light brown but I have freckles, so the LAST thing I wanted was to have ginger hair to match my freckles (not that there is anything wrong with red hair when done nicely or when natural). It was HORRIBLE and I was so miserable and self-conscious. I saw a friend from college and she literally didn't recognize me... Now, I take full responsibility for not speaking up in the salon about the copper, but honestly I was so afraid that if I said anything I would have a melt down that I had just gone home and cried. Moral of the story if you've colored your hair before and are willing to let them have some artistic reign: go to Ja'ocall for your balayage and be very, very specific about what color you want and where you want it lightened. However, if you're not used to balayage and you don't always speak up for yourself, this might not be the best salon for you. UPDATE: went to Bradley & Diegel and got my hair fixed. Yaz was a miracle worker and turned me back into a brunette with blonde balayage and face framing. And for $100 LESS than Nest! read more

As a newbie to the area, I've been searching for the right stylist. I found Nest Salon on Yelp and with it's good ratings, decided to give it a try. I booked the same day with Jess for a haircut and walked over after work. The salon is very tiny, as everyone says. It's kind of an "alley" style with a few chairs and an area to sit and wait. Jess offered me coffee or water before getting started. I explained to her I mainly wanted a trim, but to even out my layers. She did the cut first, then shampooed me. The products they use here are from Italy and are all natural. Jess used an all-over volumizing spray and then blew dry my hair. She styled it so nicely and made sure I was happy with my cut. She was very friendly and did a great job. They offer a first-time 20% off so my cut was $40. Overall, I had a good experience. The environment is a bit closed in and it would be great if they added a hot towel during conditioning. Nice little find! read more

I saw Erin using a Groupon. I was cutting almost 10 inches of hair off for donation, and she cut off the ponytail skillfully. Then she transformed my hair into an A-line bob. I really liked the style, and it also grows out very well. The shape is still there after 2 months! I highly recommend Erin, she knows what she's doing. I really love this place. I was first referred here by a friend who went to see Ja'coall to have a bad hombre (no pun intended)- fixed. I went originally to fix a bogus bob cut I got at another salon. She is the hair whisperer. The dry cut is amazing and she is amazing. Her cuts always capture the look I want while taking into consideration my hairs texture and how it falls on my face. MariEsther is the best stylist and colorist I've found since I moved here from NYC. She listens and gives heldpful feedback--I wasnt sure if I wanted to continue dyeing my hair dark to cover my gray and silver hair gand she encouraged me to go a bit lighter which is a great way to ease that transition. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair! Unfortunately MariEsther isn't there and I can't recommend this place anymore. The owner did my color and didn't listen to me and it came Out too dark. Jacoal is the only stylist I've ever been to that I completely trust. I never walk in the salon knowing exactly what I want, but I tell her what I don't currently like about my hair or the general effect I want and she does her thing and it turns out amazing. She's cut and colored my hair for a couple of years now and I always leave her salon feeling amazing and excited about my new 'do. The rest of the stylists are also amazing. Erin is doing my hair for my wedding in a couple of months, and when the others have done my blow out or something they have been awesome. The products they use, Davines, are natural and sustainable, smell ABSOLUTELY amazing (cannot emphasize that enough), and do wonderful things for your hair. Jacoal is also super knowledgeable about them and knows exactly what to recommend when I need a new product - always does the trick! I would recommend this salon to anyone! read more

Itty bitty! One washing station and maybe 5 chairs in what is essentially a little hallway. There is a little reading nook which serves as a waiting area. I think they've done a great job making the most of a small space. Bonus: the decor is ADORABLE. I usually bring my little dog with me to a haircut, but would not in a space this small. Erin is great. She is very "real" and totally cracked me up, and she did a wonderful job with my hair. Also, she didn't pressure me into buying any products and wasn't gossipy (two of my major salon pet peeves.) Once I washed it myself, I realized that it wasn't as angled as I had hoped so I sent an email, and the owner Jocall wrote me back in an instant letting me know I could pop myself on the calendar, no problem. Three cheers for the online scheduling tool. I was sweating like a pig, though...just imagine 5 hairdryers blowing around and hot tools on in such a tiny space. OBSESSED with this little hidden gem in boston. I went in the first time babbling incoherently about what I thought I wanted, and Ja'coall absolutely nailed it. She listened to what I was saying, and read between the lines when I clearly didn't know what I was talking about. I got the best color and cut of my life - it grew out naturally, and the cut held its shape for weeks. I've been back twice since then and she remembers my name and my face, and each experience is better than the last. I'm super picky about where I go to get my hair cut, and I've had bad cuts at nice salons in Boston before. I got hair painting and a cut and blowdry, so this was definitely pricey, but not compared to other high end salons, and everything grew out so nicely, and I didn't have to get it re-done for months, so It's more than worth it. Huge shout out to Erin from Nest Salon !!! I got "a trim " yesterday from a friend , it came out beyond horrible !!! Best way to describe it is hmmmm . ...... looked as if a 2 year old cut my hair ! It had huge chunks cut out and extremely UNeven ! The "trim" was supposed to be straight across , I couldn't believe it , felt like a NIGHTMARE ! After complaining to several people , I was referred to a woman named Erin from Nest Salon , I quicky made a appointment , she squeezed me in the following day . I originally discovered Nest through a deal they had on Groupon a while back and have been going ever since. My go-to stylist is Janet, and she never disappoints with how to cut and style my hair. I've grown pretty used to stylists who usually throw client suggestions out the window and do whatever they want to your head (usually to bad, bad results) but this isn't the case with Janet! She always takes into consideration what I want or whatever look I'm going for and while cutting always checks in with me to see if I like what she's done, what can be changed, and more. My favorite part of visiting Nest -- other than looking supa dupa fly (yes that is a Missy Elliot reference) when I leave -- is the pre-cut shampoo. Janet always throws in a little extra head massage which is absolutely to die for! The only downside (and it's very, very minor) to Nest is how small the salon is. There are only 4 chairs in the entire space, so I'm sure that makes walk-ins are almost nearly impossible. That being said, make sure to book your appointments online. read more

I'm really sad to write a negative review, since the other reviews here are so fantastic. The salon itself is beautifully laid out, despite its size, and the stylists are very friendly. It was difficult for me to make the appointment, because there is no receptionist to answer phones, so appointments can only be scheduled when stylists are free. I work until 5, so I scheduled the initial appointment for 5:15. I got an appointment confirmation on Google calendar...for 4:30. I was a bit surprised by this, since I had written down 5:15, but fortunately I work a flexible schedule and was able to leave early. When I arrived at the salon, there were no employees or customers. It was completely empty except for a man wearing headphones, who didn't indicate whether he was an employee or not. He informed me that my appointment had been cancelled, and showed me a text message on his phone from the stylist, which read "If the 4:30 shows up, tell her there was a scheduling mistake." Why would I not show up? I had an appointment confirmed on Google calendar. I understand things happen, but why did no one call me to cancel the appointment? I left work for nothing. This man said "I'm sure she'll take something off of your next appointment when you reschedule." Not much help, since I came in on a Groupon. It took me a few weeks to reschedule, because 1) I was pretty unhappy, and 2) I once again couldn't get ahold of anyone to schedule an appointment for several days. I finally made an appointment for 6:00 on a Friday night. When I arrived at the salon, the stylist seemed confused to see me. She was very friendly and offered me a water, but then informed me my appointment had been schedule for 6:30. Again, all of these problems could be solved with a receptionist. When I did get into the chair, the consultation was...short. The stylist referred to my hair as a "rat's nest," which I didn't appreciate, but whatever. To be fair, I should have spoken up more during the appointment, but I'm a relatively quiet person. Although she dry-cut my hair, the cut seemed essentially like what I wanted, so I was pleased. And then she took me to wash my hair. Now, I had scheduled the appointment as a cut and single-process color, and I'm sure I booked it that way, because whomever I spoke with on the phone asked if I was looking for highlights or single process. The wash with no color was a big red flag, but after the surprise dry-cut, I wasn't sure if maybe they used a different type of color. Then we got to the chair and she asked how I wanted my hair styled. I mentioned I was supposed to have a color, and she seemed surprised and annoyed. Although essentially polite, the stylist made several passive-aggressive comments about how I should've mentioned it sooner. I agree, I should have, but I wasn't expecting yet another appointment error. My hair was colored, although I had gone in with the intention of going red, and instead had to settle for my previous color due to time constraints. Fortunately, the color looks amazing, which is why I have the salon two stars instead of one. When I got home, I found several pieces of hair that were uneven, and one long one right in the front which looked to have been missed altogether. No spot-checking? My roommate had to give me a few quick trims. Again: beautiful salon, mostly friendly staff...but would benefit HIGHLY from a receptionist. read more

I've been there last week and had my doubts when she started cutting my hair, I just had asked for a trim. She asked me if I wanted layers. I say yes. Now my hair is really short. A good 5 inches less. And no layers. I don't like it. This was confirmed by my girlfriends. I look like a boring bree van de kamp. Be careful. At least if you go with a gilt city voucher.
