So I have been coming to Kasey since 2019. I am very particular about how I like my hair colored, cut, and styled. I've been to a few salons and the only thing that they would get right is the hair cut. The salons that I've been to were not with the times. They couldn't do a balayage which I am so glad is what's in these days because it is so forgiving on a busy mama like myself. That is when I found Kasey and my loyalty has been to her ever since. When she relocated to South Boston and co- opened this salon, I followed her. The salon is bright, cozy, and clean. The environment is so welcoming. The staff is friendly. Everytime I come in, coffee and water always offered. Kasey is so sweet and always checks on me to make sure I am comfortable while I am there. Easy online scheduling system. Kasey is responsive on IG and you can schedule appointments with her that way as well. I love how her IG and the salon's IG page let's you know of open availability. They accept Venmo for tips, which is great cause I don't carry cash (does anyone anymore?). I want to speak to Kasey's work. You can tell she cares about her craftsmanship. Hairstylists are artist and Kasey is that. I always come in with pictures to give her an idea of what I want and she is realistic about whether it can be done in that session or if it would require another. Nonetheless, she always deliver and I am always happy with the results! Also, I've noticed that since I have been coming to Kasey, even with the hair dyes, my hair has never looked or felt healthier! With the other salons, my hair would get dried and damaged. I am telling you, as $$ as it is, you are paying for quality work. I would not frequent this business. One of the stylists and looks like she may be the owner named Taylor is bashing her clients on TikTok and making classist statement statements saying they are broke if they don't tip. Threatening and harassing people for tips is illegal and this is how she feels about her clients. She looks at them as people who need to throw money at her. I would never frequent this business and get my hair done by somebody who is bashing me online. The vibe in this business is not good. I booked a haircut weeks in advance and came in excited -- I usually love getting my hair done. When I arrived, the front desk girl took my coat and said my stylist would be out shortly. She came back a minute later and said she would actually be the one washing my hair and doing a mask until my stylist could come out. That immediately felt odd since it was my first time there and the stylist hadn't seen my hair dry. Every salon I've been to does a quick consult first to see your hair type and talk through the plan. Towards the end of being rinsed, the stylist switched in without introducing herself or even saying hello. Her first words to me were, "What kind of cut are you looking for today?" Even after leaving the wash station, there was still no introduction or real questions about my hair. She was not working with another guest at the time so I'm not sure why she couldn't introduce herself and do a consult beforehand. I was there to cut about five inches off and felt really uncomfortable trusting someone who hadn't seen my hair dry or taken a moment to understand it. I don't need a chatty appointment, but I do expect a stylist to make a new client feel welcomed and assess their hair. She barely spoke the entire time, which made the appointment feel awkward and honestly pretty uncomfortable. Thankfully, the haircut turned out fine, but this was one of the most uncomfortable salon experiences I've had. I just had my second hair appointment at Salon 120 West in Southie this past Saturday and I left feeling extremely disappointed. I had been looking for a hair stylist in Boston and I usually do baby-lights and about an inch off for a haircut...nothing crazy here. My first appointment I went to Delaney in the summer and she did a great job, I was very happy with how everything turned out. Then I went back to her this weekend and it was a negative experience from start to finish. My appointment was at 9am and I got a text earlier in the morning from the salon asking if I could come in at 9:15 instead to which I said no problem. I got to the salon at 9:15 on the dot and wasn't sat until 9:45. I would have much preferred they told me just to come at 9:45 but not the end of the world. Then as she is touching up my highlights, she was teasing my hair in a way that felt like it was yanking a lot of hairs out of my head. I have very thin hair to begin with (which I told Delaney about) so I'm already very nervous about any tugging to my hair and I asked her if she could tease it in a different way because I just get very nervous about my hair. She said of course no problem but it seemed like she was too busy chatting with the girl who works behind the front desk to really remember because 2 foils later and she was back to teasing the hair really harshly and it was not a pleasant experience. Then as I'm sitting with the foils in, she takes one half of my head out and wants to wait a little longer for the other side. I was under the assumption she would only wait a few minutes before taking the other side out so I didn't look uneven but she spent a full 30 minutes giving the girl who works behind the desk a FULL BLOWOUT. Then since Delaney was still busy curling the hair of the other employee, she had the trainee mix and do the toner for my hair along with the hair wash. The hair wash was fine but I am paying for Delaney to handle all the color and that's not what I got. Finally back to Delaney to blow dry my hair and give me my cut, she just cut the ends of the back of my hair which took about 30 seconds and that was it...none of the framing pieces I had asked for around my face. I know I should have said something about the other parts of my haircut that I had requested but at this point I just wanted to leave. Get to the front desk and am told I owe $250, I was so upset I will never be returning. I felt neglected the entire appointment and I'm spending a lot of money on this so I was just overall very disappointed. I also understand that hair stylists will work on other clients while people have color setting in their hair but it was another employee and it felt like I was such an afterthought and basically paid for the front desk girl to get a full blow-out and curl. Only positive is that the color turned out nicely but my hair still has a lot of dead ends. read more

Not exaggerating this is my new go-to hair place, I booked an appointment with Kasey for a single process hair color (pink to brown) and we went a different direction to remove my previous pink and reveal my natural. I will be returning once it has fully faded to even the tone! Sink chairs are massage chairs and I felt well taken care of and in a clean environment. Prices are very reasonable! read more

I've seen Kasey twice now and both times my hair came out exactly as requested. She's super attentive and able to pick up the details in the photos I send her. She's also very realistic about what makes sense for my hair and what I could/couldn't do, plus she's super responsive in instagram too which makes scheduling easy. The new salon is easy to get to, looks like it's mainly 2hr street parking (no meter) but google did say there is a parking lot a couple of blocks away. Tip is cash or venmo (also very nice that venmo is accepted, I never have cash anymore). read more

Taylor was recommended to me by my sister, and I love her natural approach to balayage that also gave this natural brunette a pop of blonde without it being too much. I got a haircut and balayage, which was the most efficient cut and color I have ever received- not to mention an excellent job. If you're looking for a balayage specialist who can blend your COVID hair, look no further. Today I checked out this new salon that just moved into our neighborhood. And I'm really glad I did! It's just what you need right now in pandemic. Easy to get an appointment, quick wash and a haircut in less than an hour. The staff was really cognizant of masks, cleanliness, and generally washing everything thoroughly before you touch it. I got just the right amount of consult, for a new customer. Then Taylor cut my hair and gave me a nice blowout. I'm really happy with it. It's not the full Saturday all day experience, but price just right for what you get. The photo looks empty although there were a few people in there. read more

**update: To the owner: please read the review carefully because I am not displeased about having to have a consultation instead of the balayage. I am displeased because the tone and attitude towards me from the stylist was condescending and made me feel uncomfortable. Made an appointment for a balayage for Kasey over the phone. While Kasey didn't end up doing my hair, her approach towards me wasn't the friendliest or warmest. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. She started kind of "yelling" or "lecturing" at me loudly about my hair, and said what I wanted wasn't achievable. It was to the point where the other employees and customers looked at us weirdly. Yes I get that I won't get the color I want, but can she speak to me a nicer tone? I am not uncomfortable about not having the service done, I feel uncomfortable that her tone and attitude towards me was rude and kind of standoffish. She kept insisting on doing a consultation and didn't seem to want to do my hair, and said there's not enough time (even though the whole slot was booked for a balayage). My before and after photos speak for themselves! I started seeing Taylor in late March of this year after I had horrible banding and yellow tones from another stylist. My hair was so damaged it would break off it my hands. In just a few months with Taylor she was able to achieve the gorgeous icy blonde on healthy hair in the after photo. Taylor is a perfectionist when it comes to her craft, she respects and cares for the integrity of your hair, is always accommodating with my schedule - all on top of being pleasant to be around. The salon is beautiful and clean without that stuffy, too-good-for-you vibe and the staff provides exceptional customer service too. I never write reviews but wanted to share my experience at Salon 120 West, especially since it looks like they have some unfair reviews on here. I came here for the first time last night after looking for a salon in the South Boston area that offered keratin treatments. I booked with Kasey, one of the owners, and she was absolutely fantastic. Booking online on their website was super easy and they had a decent amount of availability for outside of "normal" office hours. As someone who works a corporate job with standard hours, this is something that I very much appreciated since it can be difficult to find salons with availability for longer hair appointments, such as keratin treatments, that fit into my schedule. I actually got an appointment on a Monday evening, which is rare for salon hours. The salon itself is new, clean, and beautifully designed and Kasey was fantastic. You can tell Kasey cares about the clients in her chair - whether you are brand new like me or a long-time regular. The keratin treatment I received was a different type than the one I typically get and Kasey took the time to explain the process, anticipated results, and aftercare to me. She was very easy to talk to and let me zone out and relax during my 2 hour service. I'm very happy with the results of my keratin treatment and will definitely be back. read more

A brand new salon that does not disappoint! I followed my stylist Mia Carbone to her new home here, and I knew she would not lead me astray. They have a very convenient booking system, and they even send you text updates. The salon itself is gorgeous in an upscale rustic kind of way. The flower walls are stunning and everything was sparkling clean. The chairs were spread out to maintain social distancing, everyone had their masks on properly, and I watched them disinfect anything and everything after it had been used. This salon has the upscale feel without any pretentiousness. It's both youthful, yet classic. While there, I watched the two owners give incredible blowouts to two women with vastly different hair types. They played uplifting music the whole time, really creating an atmosphere that put you at ease. My absolute favorite part was that the shampoo chairs were also massage chairs!!! Yes!! Truly out of this world! I have never been happier to sit while my hair processed. I will definitely be back and I encourage anyone looking to treat themselves to coke in as well! read more

She can come off a little reserved at first but by the end of the appointment she was giving me advice and recommendations about the area and made me feel super comfortable and welcomed. I also appreciate that as a stylist that does extensions, she was upfront that I should not get them. I naturally have long and thick hair and she was upfront and blunt, while I've had other stylists try and talk me into hair extensions. 100% recommend this salon and especially Hannah! I called to cancel my appointment because I was unable to drive in due to a large snow storm (9+ inches where I live and still going strong at the time of my appointment). I was told that because the salon was open I would have to pay a cancellation fee as the cancellation was with 24 hours of my appointment. An establishment that expects their customers to compromise safety or pay a fee is not one I would frequent and is the epitome of poor customer service. I had previously been seeing Mia for 5 years but as there are many other salons in Boston who understand that weather sometimes gets in the way of best laid plans, it will be easy to find the same services elsewhere. read more

I was able to walk in on a Thursday afternoon for a hair cut (for long hair) and Mia gave me a great long shag cut. The salon has a nice chill vibe, and the massage chairs at the sink are super nice. I'm looking forward to returning! read more

I really wanted to be able to give this salon a 5 star review, but my recent experience with them was a disappointment. I've gone to Taylor a few times for both color and cut and she does a wonderful job, as a stylist, I would certainly recommend her. I was unable to make my recent appointment because my kids and I woke up feeling sick, and in the midst of a pandemic I would never carry that illness into a public place. I notified the salon 24 hours in advance, Taylor was able to fill the slot with another client, and they still went on to charge me a fee (25% of the cost of the service). I understand this is a policy that is signed-off on when scheduling appointments, but it felt manipulative to be charged for being sick during a pandemic when Taylor was able to find another client to fill the spot. Had the appointment not been filled, I understand the need to compensate the stylist for their security. The entire interaction left a sour taste in my mouth, and while I wish it wasn't the case, I won't be returning. Fortunately for them, they made a few bucks off of me while I stayed home sick with two kids, so congrats to them. read more

I have been living in southie 7 years and I have tried out almost every salon (shag, salon nurture, cheveaux). This is by far the best. I am very particular about the color of my hair and Taylor did an amazing job. I have not left a salon feeling this happy in a really long time both the color and the cut are fantastic. She also did a deep conditioner on me that left my really dry hair feeling so soft and healthy. She did a full foil and cut in record time (at least an hour faster than I am used to it taking). I am new to Boston and researched for awhile on the best salons. I came across Salon120 West and loved their work on their instagram. I booked an appointment with Hannah G and was looking forward to a relaxing day after work getting my hair done. The Salon is very clean and trendy however I did not feel welcomed and I felt uncared for during my experience. Hannah G barely asked me anything about what I wanted and she did not speak to me at all during my appointment. I am very easygoing so I don't mind some quiet but I've been to many great salons and I never had someone do balayage so fast on me, everything felt so rushed. She did not ask me about the water temperature which was so cold and when she brushed my hair out after conditioning it she ripped out so much of my hair into the brush and it hurt badly and I can handle pain. When I got home and looked at my hair the cut was uneven and I ended up going to somewhere else to get it fixed. I can't speak about other stylists but Hannah G made me feel uncared for during my appointment as I felt like she wanted to get my hair done in as little time as possible and was unfriendly.
