UPDATE: owner had the audacity to respond to my original review, claiming the charge was cancelled. I attempted to dispute the charge with my bank but Davis Salon fought for the charge and o ultimately paid for it. I have proof of this charge, further proof this salon does not have your best interest at heart. Also - no, a warm shade is not needed. I've been way blinded than I was trying to go this time and never had a horrible burner orange shade. Your stylists just aren't skilled. I hate to write poor reviews but I had absolutely the worst hair experience of my life here. I have naturally dark hair and I wanted to go light, which I have done before. I explained to the stylist that I understand it will take a few appointments to get to the color I wanted. I will preface this will I came in for a consultation before o committed to anything. I told him it had been over a year since I colored my hair and provided a list of products I use. He seemed to know what he was doing so we got started. After about three hours, he washes my hair and it is ORANGE. I mean deep burnt orange, I had never seen my hair like that. I tried not to be upset so I paid and I left. I was looking at it in the light as I walked home and started to cry. It was the most unnatural orange hair I've ever seen on anyone. I went back the next day to speak to them and the stylist proceeded to yell at me and yell it was part of the process. Actually it's not, I've been blonde before and never had an orange step. He is actually being rude to me while the owner was sitting there. Mind you I paid $354 for burnt orange hair. They agreed to fix it at their other soon with another stylist. She did what she could to save it, it was better but still a hint of orange. My hair was also so damaged. I paid over $400 with tip for orange damaged hair. I eventually had to chop my hair about 8 inches because of the damage. Six months later, a million treatments and being self conscious it's still not great. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. DO NOT SEE MICHAEL. DO NOT TRUST THE OWNERS TO DO THE RIGHT THING. just avoid at all costs, save your money and your hair. read more

Have never written a review or called a hair salon with an issue before but 2.5 weeks after coloring my hair, my friend said it looked like I hadn't gotten it done. I called the salon, explained I usually get my roots done every 6-8 weeks so maybe a different formula was used and they tell me to come in a few days later to look at it and take care of it. Originally, the stylist tells me it's past their 2 week policy (I called 3 business days after the cut off). I say I'm not spending another $100 at a salon if I have to get my roots done every 2 weeks. I'll go back to my old salon even though it's not as convenient. The stylist says no, don't worry about it, we'll fix it. She says she only left the color on 30 minutes and maybe I needed 45. I tell her yep, that's it - my last salon left it on 45 minutes. I decide everything will be fine and I'll keep coming back. Then I'm sitting with the color on and the receptionist tells me they'll comp a blow dry but I'll have to pay for the color. I explain what happened and show her I just came from a run - all I have is my license and $23 on me in a little change purse. Am I supposed to walk out with a full head of color in my hair? She says she'll call the owner. Comes back and says it's on the house. I decide again, I'll come back. I must have just had some bad luck. Someone else comes over to wash out my hair and then says I'll have to pay for the blow dry. Again - I say I have no wallet on me. There's only about 8 employees there - why do I have to keep explaining myself? She leaves me sitting at the sink and tells me to wait until the more junior hair washer is available. Get my hair washed, tip the colorist $20 and leave. Color was a great shade, place was clean and cute, it's a super convenient location but the lack of customer service was a huge turn off. read more

I came across Davis Hairdressing in Southie by chance and they told me there was a last-minute opening so I booked an appointment. I was so nervous trusting my hair to a total stranger, especially because I was about to chop off nearly a foot of hair. Kayce gave me the best haircut of my life!!! I really love it here. There's such a nice atmosphere, from the front desk staff to the ambience and all the stylists. Everyone seems so friendly and down-to-earth. I go to Rosie regularly for haircuts, color, and blowouts and she's fantastic- always friendly, remembers things that you talked about 8 weeks before and is truly talented. I've also gone to Karen for blowouts and she is wonderful, and JR washes my hair and gives the best scalp massages! The prices are typical SoBo, but honestly, you get what you pay for at this place. You're going to pay a decent amount of money (though not Newbury St prices) and you're going to get a wonderful result. AND- they always offer, water, tea or coffee and they have Werther's at the front desk! Wether's are the best. read more

Have no idea how to do a curly blow dry, used no hair spray didn't use the brush to add any volume or style to the hair. Walked out with flat straight hit and when I told them it wasn't what I asked for they said it was because I had straight hair (not true) - I have gotten so many curly blow drys In the last none have turned out like this. The salon where I had my hair done pre-COVID was in Burlington, and I was distressed to learn that it had closed for good. So I had to find a new place and a new hairdresser, and Davis Hairdressing welcomed me to their salon in Newton Highlands. I have been VERY pleased with Jenny, who is excellent at her job, highly experienced, and extremely warm. She is a forward thinker, contemplating what would be best for my hair in both the short and long run. I have been very pleased. I went to Davis with the intention of getting a balayage with Alize. After a consultation and showing her pictures, she recommended I get a full highlight. My experience was so amazing - Alize did an incredible job and I was so happy with the result. She spent over 4 hours on my hair making sure I got exactly what I wanted. This was by far the best experience I've ever had at a salon. The owner, Mary, was so amazing and friendly. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The location is super easy to find. I do recommend taking an uber or public transit as it is Southie so parking could be a bear. But back to the salon itself and the staff: AMAZING. A+++. Michael did my hair. Not only is he an absolute doll, but he is a genius with color and cut. I walked in feeling bored with my hair and walked out feeling like a different person!! For the cut with the color it was a little more than I'd planned on paying originally, but 100% worth every penny. I've already booked my next appointment. Love them!!! read more

Had a great haircut here. I usually go to whatever salon is convenient when I think it's time for a haircut, but will definitely be returning. I have longer hair and usually just get a trim, so I find it doesn't really matter where I go to get it cut. After I left my appointment, I felt overly pleased with the way my hair turned out and with the whole experience. The shampoo process was top quality and Karen, who cut my hair, was professional and had great suggestions for future ideas for my hair without being pushy or feeling like she was trying to sell me something. I booked a same-day appointment with Katie, and when I arrived, I was welcomed warmly by the receptionist who offered tea, coffee, or water while I waited. The appointment started on time with a short consultation about what I was looking for, and my specific hair concerns. Katie understood exactly what I wanted and definitely delivered! My appointment was a few weeks ago now and my hair still looks and feels great. I don't know if they always do this, but as of now, new customers receive a small goodie bag with hair care samples and a $20 voucher for their next appointment. I've only been coming to Davis Hairdressing for a few months and I love it! First off, I have to admit that I followed my stylist here. Whittney is awesome. She has been doing my color since I moved to MA 3.5 years ago and I just couldn't imagine letting anyone else do my hair. I am always getting compliments on it. She didn't start out cutting my hair, but the move here has her doing both for me. When I walked in, I showed her a photo and she was able to give my the perfect cut to fit my face shape and my personality! Top that off with my fun lightened hair with rose gold highlights and everyone is loving my hair...including me! My mom (who's 70) even loves my undercut and wants to do the same. Whittney, you are a rockstar! Now for the salon, it's a very friendly environment. As a Midwesterner still feeling a little lost on the East Coast, it was great to be so warmly greeted. I moved to Southie last summer and live really close to this salon; everyone there is excellent and very professional. For my first cut with Whittney I had a vague idea that I wanted something different but wasn't sure exactly how I wanted it to manifest. I showed her a tiny pic of a friend on my phone who had bangs I liked, and she asked questions from there. I'm one of those clients who prefers to trust a professional to make decisions regarding execution and style, rather than demanding a cut that may or may not work well with my face shape, hair texture, coloring, etc. I couldn't be happier with the suggestions she made, and will continue seeing her. I recently traveled all the way from Pennsylvania to see Whittney, who had done my hair previously at a different salon. While it was certainly a long trip, It was totally worth it. My experience was great. Whittney spent a lot of time with me making sure I got exactly what I wanted and the salon was stylish and comfortable. My color is a little unusual (bright red) and I have difficulty finding a stylist/salon who can get it correct and make it last a long time. Whittney is always able to accomplish this. The day that I visited, parking was free at the metered spots and I had no difficulty getting a parking spot right on the street but it is good to remember quarters for days when it isn't free parking. If you're even questioning going here, just stop - and go. I don't have that complicated of a hair cut, and it's been roughly the same since I was a teenager (I'm boring.). So, I would regularly just go to a supercuts because I didn't see the need for paying more for something I knew they could handle. I ended up going to Davis because I'm heading off to a vacation and I live close enough to walk, and needed a fast hair cut. When I called to see if they could take a walk in, Mary answered and immediately was friendly and inviting. I walked up and she greeted me, offering water/coffee/tea - so we're off to a good start. Whitney ended up cutting my hair. She was so nice and chatty without forcing conversation. She did an amazing job cutting my hair, I was so happy with how it turned out. As I was leaving I got the gift bag other people have mentioned and ended up chatting with the girl who was cashing me out as well. Literally - everyone here was so friendly. The travel shampoo/conditioner and the $20 gift certificate were a really nice touch. I will definitely be back to Davis to see Whitney. I am not one to write reviews but after my recent experience with this salon I have to. Very disappointed :( I had an event coming up and was looking to lighten up my darker brown hair for it. The salon is on my commute route so I decided to check it out. I went in, showed them a photo of what I was looking for (a medium brown) and asked if they would be able to do it in one visit. The receptionist thought they could but, with me asking for total reassurance, brought the image to a stylist to double check; both agreed it would be a single process color and told me the price. I went home, slept on it and about a week later decided to go make an appointment. When I went back, there was a different receptionist so I decided it wouldn't hurt to ask again. I proceeded to ask, for the SECOND time, if the color I wanted in the image was possible in one visit. Again they looked at the photo and I was reassuringly told yes. So I made the appointment. I showed up the day of, sat in the chair, showed/told the stylist what I wanted and was pretty much immediately told she wouldn't be able give me what I wanted in one visit. I was so taken back!! I told her I had an event, didn't have time for multiple appointments and that prior to this I was told TWICE (each time by different people in this same salon) that this was possible in one visit. I couldn't believe it!! There was no acknowledgment of their wrongdoing or even any easing of my frustration for their lack of knowledge or communication. She basically looked at me and said "ok". The salon was empty and even the receptionist (who was one of the people I initially coordinated the appointment and my expectation with) didn't say a word! They had no care or consideration for the fact that they completely misled the expectation and possibility.  Unfortunately because I had an event, they put me between a rock and a hard place. I ended up having to get a touch up of my roots and a recoloring. The fact that I had to pay full price and walk away without the result I was looking for is really concerning to me from a business standpoint. No matter how much I asked for them to be sure my expectation was possible they just said "yes yes yes"..until I actually sat in the chair. I had really high hopes but def let down on this one! read more

There are not enough words to say how much I love Davis Salon, especially Rosie! I've always been striving for that Rachel Green/ Gisele blonde- brown color and Rosie got it to perfection the first time. She listened to everything I said from the minute I sat down in the chair and I left a very happy customer. She's not only wonderful at coloring but also got my cut spot on. Had my first appointment with Toni today and as a mom of a new 6 week old I arrived a bit a mess and 15 minutes late. Toni took it in stride and managed to correct my very damaged hair in a record amount of time so I could get home to my baby in time. Nice touch with the warm towels around the neck at the hair washing station. I only got my roots done so I'm not sure about the other services here yet but so far I'm very pleased. Myself, my MOH, my mother and my friend had our hair done for my wedding at Davis Hairdressing in South Boston at the recommendation of my MIL who gets her hair done at the Newton location. Before the big day, I did two trials with Karen who was super patient with me. Karen and Michael were our stylists and Jessica is the manager. Excellent team to work with. Fun, relaxed atmosphere and very talented stylists. Karen was a magician working on my hair until it was perfect. We had the salon reserved to ourselves for the morning. My hair looked great after the color treatment I had here. My regular hairdresser in Boston was booked but Julia was able to take me. Unfortunately there is someone dishonest that works there. I had to remove some items from my purse to get my wallet and credit cards out to pay. In the flutter of paying I left my wallet on the counter. The next day I had to show my ID. at the check in counter at Dana Farber where I am a patient, I have advanced ovarian cancer, and realized that I left my wallet at the hairdressers. I called them in tears later that day after I had double checked every other possibility but they denied it. The girl who checked me out was a heavy set woman with long blonde hair. Went in here as a last ditch effort looking like some spaced out person from the 70's! The receptionist asked me hope I was doing....scared to death I told her. She was extremely supportive and I had chosen Michael as my stylist. She assured me I wouldn't be disappointed. He was so excited to be cutting curly hair. I've never seen anything like it. He was smart, funny, having fun, concentrating, and I had no worry that I had chosen the wrong place this time. All of the staff are wonderful! Have been looking for a good place in Boston for lits years. Found it! Michael was unreal. Super talented, really listened, and was a perfect balance of buddy and professional. The rest of the staff is also super warm and friendly. I went in and in about an hour had a trim, bangs cut in (perfectly based on the pictures I gave him, which wasn't easy), and a style that my super straight hair held all night for $65!!!
