I booked an appointment at the Broadway location in Boston with Isabelle. From the moment I walked in, the team was warm and professional. Isabelle listened to exactly what I wanted, gave great suggestions, and delivered -- my color is gorgeous and I've been getting nonstop compliments. My cut is perfect too: stylish, easy to manage, and exactly what I asked for. Hello! I had an appointment with Meghan on Friday for a cut and style. She was so patient with me despite me not really having a clear idea of what I wanted. I gave her free range to do what she thought looked best and she absolutely delivered. I got so many compliments on my hair all weekend from friends and family. I saw Sarah in March 2023 for a "wash, cut, and style" as a first-timer at She Is Sophie James. The salon itself was nice and impeccably clean! Sarah was so amazing. She talked to me for a bit first about my hair care routine, how I typically wear and style my hair, how often I wash it, etc. Really taking the time to get to know my hair and what it goes through! For the actual haircut: BEAUTIFUL! I hadn't gotten my hair cut in a *long time* before this appointment. Sarah and I talked through my desired cut first, she clarified when describing how that would look, then washed my hair and got to work. The final result was perfect! I felt confident and super happy with my haircut as I headed off to a close friend's destination wedding. Here I am now in June 2023, and I'm about to see Sarah again today for my very next haircut! I will continue to see her going forward, as I was so impressed with the end result. The front desk at the salon were super friendly, too. This has to be the worst salon I have visited in my life. I am a biracial woman who had been searching for a salon that was curly-hair friendly and could properly give a blow-out service in Boston. I am from New York so it was quite the task to find a salon that was skilled at washing, blowing out, and styling curly hair in Massachusetts. I had been to about 5 salons to no avail. She is Sofie James, unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, was another HUGE disappointment and waste of money. For reference, I have a mixture of 4b and 4c hair that is thick and had called the salon TWICE to confirm that they could manage my type of hair, which I have mentioned is very curly. They assured me that they could and they had a curly hair specialist that could give me my desired look. They lied. I was so so excited to finally find some place that could do my hair and was eagerly telling my friends about it. I had been looking forward to it from the day I made my appointment. Little did I know I would be SORELY DISAPPOINTED. Although my stylist was kind, she did not know how to deal with curly hair whatsoever. She loaded my hair with various oils and creams while it was still wet, which is a blow-out no-no, and hurt my scalp severely as she blew it out. It felt like my hair was being ripped out simply because she did not detangle my hair out properly. It was an awful experience and I quite literally left the salon looking like Bob Ross. I was silly enough to pay and even give a tip because I felt so awkward but I cried in my Uber home. My roots were not even slightly straightened and my hair was incredibly heavy and weighed down by products. I was forced to go to a salon in which I had to pay an additional $120 to fix my hair and get my desired blow-out on top of the $60 I paid She is Sophie James. My problem of course lies in the blow-out experience because I showed my stylist a photo of what I wanted my hair to look like (which was definitely achievable because the photos I showed were of previous blow outs I have gotten in New York), but even more so with the professionalism of the salon. I called the salon twice to let them know of my concerns and to see if there was something that could be done, yet I was met with their answering machine assuring they would give me a call-back. I then received a customary after visit survey that allowed me to rate my experience at the salon. I answered this survey and at the bottom it said I would receive a call-back from the salon. To no one's surprise, I never received a call back from the salon. I waited months. I got my hair done January 27th 2023 and have yet to receive a call back from the salon 6 months later. To the owner of She is Sophie James: You claim to be an inclusive salon but you are not. It should not be this difficult to find a salon that can specialize in black hair in Boston. Find yourself a stylist that can properly treat and blow-out black hair. Your message of inclusivity is misleading and I left that salon feeling badly about my hair and myself. I called your salon to let them know this and instead of taking accountability and speaking with me, my calls and feedback were ignored. Your salon screams exclusivity. To all my black and biracial girls: AVOID THIS SALON AT ALL COST. If you are from Sommerville or close by and want a quality silk-press or "blow-out," Fernanda's Beauty Salon is incredible. Skip out on this salon and pay Fernanda and her excellent staff a visit. Yvonne is the absolute best for treating and styling very curly, thick hair (4a, 4b, 4c or really any of the curl patterns!!) and the salon is beautiful and professional. read more

Been coming here twice since I move from texas and every time its been exceptional. Was scared about finding a new hair stylist but this place has meet my expectations and im so happy with the results! I've been seeing Alexandra for the past 4 years and she is amazing! She is really great especially if you are looking to go blonder. Even though I get foils, my hair always grows out nicely (blended out instead of just being a straight line at the root). The salon itself is very clean and trendy, and a good location if you are located near Southie. I would highly recommend! read more

My experience: I am new to the over 40 world of greying hairs. I was looking for a salon that was trendy and professional. I booked an appointment and Meghan was my stylist. She was very professional and accommodating. We sat and discussed my needs for a bit so I was sure she fully comprehended what I was looking for. Important to this is the "money piece" and frontal highlights. I showed pictures and was sure we were on the same page. After coloring my roots and adding subtle highlights she washed my hair. She then added a gloss which I thought was a nice touch however what she didn't tell me is that it was $100 extra. Ok. When I sat in the chair i realized my hair had little to no of the brightness I was looking for. I was patient in hoping it would magically develop with a blow dry? So, a few minutes into the blow dry I let her know that I wasn't pleased with the outcome and she did reapply the bleach to achieve the look I was hoping for. My hair came out lovely however was over processed. My 2-3 hour hair took 6 hours. The stylist next to me had 3 clients in the interim. Meghan was apologetic and sweet. She did gear me towards products for my hair needs however after deciding to purchase they were all out. When I came to the counter my visit costed $363 and with tip $435. The reason for my 3 star is clearly because if I am going to pay almost $500 for my hair there should be no mistakes and it should not take 6 hours of my day. The end result was pretty but also feels porous and damaged after so many treatments. I will not be returning. read more
