I went to this place simply by going along with the reviews on yelp and I should've known better. On showing them my MacBook they mentioned they would charge a $65 "diagnostic fee," that would be deducted from my final repair cost if I choose to do the repair, but then the repair cost would be unusually inflated. The laptop wasn't fixed on the agreed upon date, I was still made to pay the "diagnostic fee" and it felt like they were trying to strong-arm me to leave a favorable review first, which would then earn me a "discount." This place is WONDERFUL. I have used them many times for computer repairs, but this week I went in because I couldn't get some disks to play, or if they ran, they didn't have sound. They spent about a half hour with me, and then ran me through the steps again to make sure I understood. NO CHARGE! I have rarely been disappointed by these guys. I have used them maybe 4 times for everything from build me a server to specs, to repair this old-assed laptop switch so I can squeak a few more months of life out it it. I only say rarely because they simply can not do everything. I was sent packing with my cheap android tablet in hand and it's broken power plug. Work they simply do not do. They did give me a good reference for someone that does this kind of work though. So correction I have NO complaints. They do fast diagnostics, tell you how much and they never been late. So I've got my new SSD imaged and ready to install in my laptop, but I can't get it to mount properly in the drive caddy. I'm so close to getting this installed and starting to feel frustrated and that's when I really excel at breaking things, so it's off to YY Computer again. I really wish I could've kept my 5 star previous review. I took my Compaq laptop here in April and had to take it back 3 times since then. They supposedly diagnosed it but just couldn't fix the issue. I even was at risk for getting dropped from my courses! Today I had to get a complete refund AND give up my warranty for asking for a refund. He even took a part off my computer being shady because I challenged their inability to fix my laptop. I almost threw up when he said it takes a few times to diagnose the problem. Like wth? Aren't you trained and certified for this???? I just know it takes good hearted, honest business men to run a SUCCESSFUL business! You never win when you fight dirty! I'm reporting them to the better business bureau because they aren't right. I did appreciate their attempts but I didn't appreciate almost being out of $1500 in the midst of their attempts. Had the guys said it would've taken several times to fix it in April, I would've ran out the door because you're paid to fix it. Like if my brakes in my car go out, do I expect to pay to come back AFTER I run into someone or is the mechanic supposed to ensure quality, efficient work? Right... It should be fixed before a tragedy! I remained very patient and understanding until I realized I was being taken for a ride. Then the part was REMOVED in the 20 minutes it took me to get there AFTER I requested a refund. SHADY! Suggesting I should've been grateful just because you took a month to fix it is egregious. I paid my money like any other person and would've paid more but you can't charge someone more for YOUR error. That's just business (well real business). He then said it was removed because I didn't agree to the repair...BUT he called to tell me it was done so how could I deny repair? See them lies will get you caught up. Judge Judy always says it takes a good memory to lie and I can repeat everything verbatim. Ohhhh and I learned of a "loaner computer" yesterday but my computer had been sitting there a over a week, into my classes starting and that was never mentioned. He even mentioned several times "you said you have $ to buy a new one", that's even in my receipt....so you half ass fix it and take a part off just because I'm gonna buy a new one??? Absolutely 5 stars. I'm the type of guy that NEEDS my laptop EVERYDAY. My laptop stopped working and I was not able to find out what the reason was. My battery died and my laptop stopped working, and after trying other chargers, batteries, I thought the motherboard was the problem. So did ASUS when I called them and they wanted me to ship it in. They told me estimated costs were $300+. I decided to take this to YY computers and they knew within 5 minutes what the problem was. The hole where the charger goes into has a "pin" which broke. They replaced it to me within a day since I used the "express option (+$65)" and I was able to use my laptop right away. Best service EVER! read more

My computer stop working after being shipped, and these guys took only 2 days to fix it. It costs $45 to diagnose but it totally worth it. They replaced my spoiled graphic cards at a very reasonable price too (similar to Amazon). Noted that if you choose to purchase any replace item from them, the $45 diagnostic fee is waived but you may have to pay for the labors and parts fee. These guys are great. After my computer died, I made the mistake of calling Geek Squad. They said the hard drive was shot, so I could pay them 300 bucks to do data recovery then $60 to put in a new hard drive but it may take 3 weeks to complete. I decided to get a second opinion from YY. SO GLAD I did. They said the hard drive was fine, but windows was corrupted. They recovered all the data, reinstalled windows, fixed everything up and I am using the computer right now for $120, and within 2 days. Any computer problems I have in the future this is where I am going! read more

I have bought two computers from YY over the years. They are a great local shop selling new and used computers in Oakland. I have relied on their repair and replacement service, and I have bought accessories like chargers and memory sticks from them also. They have fixed "drop damage" a couple times for me and they did it fast. They wiped the bugs out of my computer once and reinstalled Windows and restored all my data from a crash. Hate to be the one to spoil all the great reviews, though I felt this needed to be known. To make a long story short, my warranty had expired so I took a risk with a repair shop when my video card went out. Found these guys on Yelp, and liked the 5 satrs obviously. The repair was done that day which was impressive. When I got home I immediately noticed some of the buttons didn't work anymore, and the computer seemed to be running slower. I called and they asked me to bring it back in, so I did. Came back later and everything appeared ok. Fast forward 1 year. My video card goes out again! This time I take it to a friend and I can't believe what I saw. They replaced my expensive video card with a very cheap one, and since it didn't fit right, they completed the connection by hot gluing a PENNY to the motherboard!! I don't live in Oakland anymore or else I would have sued. My only advise, double check the work if you can. These guys should be closed. read more

this is the 2nd time i've used YY to fix a laptop. this time service was just as exceptional as the first time. this time, i had to have my motherboard replaced. when i picked up my laptop, on top of the initial repair, they had replaced my missing shift key, the entire bottom case of the laptop for no charge (which had been hobbling along with lots of broken pieces of plastic), and the case latch-which had broken ages ago. they said it was to compensate for the fact that my repair took a few days longer than expected due to a faulty replacement part. totally unexpected! what a wonderful surprise! YY has a standard price list for all your computer fixes, so you always know exactly how much they charge for services- unlike a couple places i visited before finding YY, which seemed to pick a price based on how much they thought i would be willing to pay. seriously, one place said- "well how much do you want to spend?" YY is professional, reliable, and nice. I've never felt talked down to or like that they are fixing things that don't need to be fixed. My wife was using the laptop and all of a sudden darkness. I brought it to a guy who had 5 star reviews on yelp to see what he can do, and he could do absolutely nothing. Basically the motherboard failed and he offered to transfer data from my laptop to a new one for a small fee, but basically told me that my computer was done. I felt pretty bad and I was actually starting to shop for a new computer. Then I realized that the stuff out now is still basically what I have on my laptop. I have a top of the line fujitsu laptop with blu ray and i5 processor that I bought 3 to 4 years ago. Very powerful still. So I start researching motherboard repairs and found out on some forums it can be done. So I called around and looked on yelp and found these guys. I asked them what is the highest that can be charged for motherboard repair and they quoted me $150. I tried calling a few places and the highest that was quoted to me was $180. So I took it to Huey, and he asked for two days. In two days he called and told me that the damage on the motherboard was repairable and would charge me $140. GO FOR IT!!!
