I'm giving two stars because I already took my Mac at this place two times within three months. Although got charged for both when their policy states free of charge of the computer finds another problem. Anyway. What I have learned is that if you get your Mac problem take it to Apple. These local stores fix it but create another problem. I already spent $300 on my Mac within this three month!! P.S even my friend has this same problem as mine. Fixed twice at YY computer. These guys are amazing!! My Macbook Air had suffered some water damage and I initially took it to the Genius Bar, where I was told that it would cost a minimum of $700 for water damage repair. Not willing to pay those costs, I took my laptop to these guys instead. For a significantly less costly price than Apple quoted me, these guys were able to fix issues with my motherboard, keyboard, screen, and battery! They are also incredibly professional as well. They had placed an order for a replacement battery for my laptop, but somehow the delivery date for the battery got delayed. Instead of making me wait even longer to have my laptop back, these guys instead offered to return my laptop with their own test battery while they wait for the replacement battery to be delivered, so that I could work on my laptop in the meantime! read more

A couple of weeks ago my Macbook Air started acting real funny and I prayed and prayed that it would go away, but it didn't... now I'm here! My laptop's fan was really noisy even though it wasn't overheated, my sound was no longer working (no input or output devices detected), and my internet took ages to go from one page to another. I would've been fine with no sound, but since I am in nursing school I needed my internet to be functional. I first took my laptop to the Apple Store in Emeryville where they helped diagnose the issue which was that a sensor located on the left side of my laptop was not working anymore, but instead of fixing the pinpoint issue they wanted to replace the whole damn thing for 475+tax... uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh being a college student and all and being broke 24/8 that was a no-no. After running out the store quickly I decided to go to YY Computer because I had my laptop fixed a couple years ago for some water damage and remembered how fast and efficient they were. Next day I drove straight into their tiny parking lot and met at the front desk with Tony. Tony is a kind man, very straight to the point guy. At first he tried to explain what was going on possibly with the laptop and I kind of just smiled and nodded my head and that's when he knew I was not down with the technologic communication. So- 1-2 days to diagnose, and about 2-3 days for repair. I got a call 2 days later with the issue and voiiiilaaaaaaaa they were able to just fix the pinpoint issue and my total quote was 175 and not 475+ at Apple! Got my macbook pro 15" retina display fixed here! They did a great job and it was relatively cheap for me (quoted $500, which includes order the part and labor fee). It didn't take too long. My computer was completely dead and unable to load. Here's what YY Computer did; - remove the hard drive from the laptop - backup all of the data on one of their machines. - reinstall windows 10 onto my laptop - put all of the data back onto the laptop - upgrade the virus software, drivers and more. - save me $1000+ off a Black Friday sales purchase for a laptop with the same specs. - Charge $100 ONLY for all of the above! In addition to this they once repaired my wife's Apple Mac laptop that had severe water damage (Apple were unable to fix it without a huge charge and the warranty had expired). I first came across YY Computer about 4 years ago while running an errand as I drive through Jackson St frequently, getting to know the neighborhood around Jack London. I meet Kevin and Huey, and had them do a clean re-install and add a new antivirus program. I later saw them again, when a former boss utilized them to install a surveillance system in the shop where I worked... the brothers did such an amazing job. This January, I brought my laptop (now a bit aged) and asked Kevin if the laptop had some life to be able to upgrade from XP...before I would either donate it or have it recycled. To my surprise, there was some life, however a bit slower..which was just fine, as I was asked by my older border for a "hand me down" of the laptop so he could stay up on using technology and internet. These guys do amazing work, their prices are quite reasonable. Believe me, I've been charged ridiculous amounts for "basic" service and further away places...all because of "brand name" repair places. I firmly believe in promoting local businesses, specially if they provide honest services and good products, as well as doing/going the extra mile for their client. I had a broken hinge on my Asus laptop. I called two or three places that really weren't interested in doing a repair. They said the parts they would have to order were expensive. The laptop is so, was working perfectly. I stop by this place, which was not far from me, and told me he could fix it by putting two or three miniature screws in from the back. He said it would be ready the next day. Three hours later he called and said I could pick it up! To quote from a TV ad "it's like it never ever happened." Hinge works perfectly. I brought it in and they did the work in 2 days. My only gripe would be the turnaround time. Just took a very sick computer to them, stuck on self repair. They took the usual stance, "we'll try and fix it annnnnd save your data". One week later a call to swap out a four year old hard drive(1 TB) spinning type to a SSD 1 TB and [insert drumroll] AND TRANSFER YOUR DATA!!!!! Yippee Kye-A ##!! Data saved. Takes very little to make this old guy happy, good price out the door. Machine works great. Been to them a while back liked them, then now I 'em. I found this place on Yelp, but I also noticed that they had listings on craigslist as well. I went in and bought a laptop at this place, and a two days later, it didn't turn on. I brought it back in and they told me that it was 'without warranty'. Now, I can understand if I had been using the computer for a significant amount of time, such as a month or more. But TWO DAYS? Thanks Yelpers for helping me find this place. My laptop power jack needed to be replaced and not knowing where to go, I turned to Yelp and found YY. They have a small parking lot making parking in Chinatown easy. I walked in, explained the problem and they gave me a quote of $45 to assess the hardware and if it was just the power jack, the cost would only be $110 to replace it. Extremely satisfying and successful experience with "the boys" (so young but so competent!) -- sure hope this doesn't get filtered because of my praise! I brought my old desktop in to be cleaned up -- I want to give it to a relative who really needs nothing more than internet and some photo storage, and over the past 8+ years I've added and removed so many programs and documents that I envisioned the inside of the computer to look like a rootbound plant. For $50 it was restored precisely as I requested -- all the junk and competing programs deleted and Microsoft Works added. I seriously thought the price was just the starting point, but that was it: $50 out the door. It's SO great to find a place where they take pride in their work, in being helpful and friendly, and where the price feels more than fair. I can't give them a 5-star review I'm afraid. My laptop was not closing properly. A piece is broken off and one of the screws was missing. They told me they could not repair it, but would have to order a whole new screen assembly and hinge. I asked them to try replacing the screw and see if that held it all together. They said it wouldn't fix it, but at my request they put a new screw in. That did repair the entire problem, saving me hundreds of dollars over if I had just accepted the tech's diagnosis. read more

I found these guys through Yelp. needed a screen replacement on one of our laptops. called another company before i called them and get this! luckily for me, they don't know the model number for the replacement because HP has a lot of different models and they have to open the laptop to see the specific one. (BTW- I'm never gonna get HP ever again!!). they asked me to bring it in and leave it with them for a few days. now this computer is a business one and can't leave the office only for a couple of hours. I have used YY Computer for over the last three years. It is without a doubt the best computer repair store I have ever used. Kevin and his partner are the most courteous and most REASONABLE people I have ever used. My teenage daughters seem to disconfigure their systems every six months. YY has set up and installed software on three computers I have purchased over the years. The are most competent, personable and reasonable. When I have a problem I do not hesitate to contact them for advice. Many times they have not charged me for work they did which was "minor" for them, but major for me. The gentlemen here are great. They know their computers and are able to give you prompt and effective service. I went in today and got my HD (Hard Drive) replaced for a small fee after them diagnosing my original HD installed was defective. They installed the HD fast (In ten minutes) and helped me with my recovery process of my OS (Operating System) on the phone once I got home without any trouble at all. I brought my computer in for a repair. I was told that they charge a $50 diagnostic fee that would get waived if they do a repair. The repair was simply blown out RAM. They replaced it and charged me the diagnostic fee anyway because the repair was too small. Very disappointing. read more

Everything seems fine before I know the truth, My labtop has a trouble to get pass the BIOS after the electricity problem in my town. After the 2 days check-up, they said the BIOS has corrupted and need to be reprogrammed with $95, (OK, $95 just to reprogram, forget it.). One day I have met a friend who works in a computer company and he gave me a check up, he took off the memory and the computer works like normal again. What the fuck!? a $95 for a reprogram? My friend did not charge me anything just to take off a memory! this place is defiantly not professional about computers. Guys, this is a true story and please do not trust them what they say, bring your item to other store to see if it's the same problem. Fuck this store I am so mad! read more
