    Banh bot chien
    Brandon D.

Checked out Yummy Quan in Houston with my my uncle. They seem to be known for their banh xeo here so you already know I had to try it. I got the mien tay version with pork and shrimp. My uncle got their hu tieu and we got the banh bot chien to start. Their portions are a lot bigger here than I thought they were going to be. There were plenty of rice cakes in the banh bot chien, all surrounded by eggs. They provide a house made soy sauce with chilis, there's minced garlic on the side that I like to add to the sauce. The rice cakes were crispy with a mushy interior and together with the eggs soak up the soy sauce so well. They also provide papaya and pickled carrots and daikons on the side. The banh xeo is absolutely huge and can definitely feed two people, maybe even 3. They do not hold back on the amount of pork and shrimp they give you. You can eat it wrapped in lettuce or some people like to just pour fish sauce on it. I didn't get to try the Hu tieu but I think these 2 dishes are good enough already

Found this spot via inKind. It's over on the other side of Bellaire, which makes sense given it's Vietnamese food. My fiance really likes this place because they have Banh Xeo Mien Tay, which not many places have. Banh Xeo is a crepe with lots of different ingredients including aromatics. She thought it was really good! Even though it's listed under appetizer, you can definitely make a meal out of it. I got the Mi Ga, which was good, but I think it should've had it with soup rather than dry-style. Worth checking out! Pandan Leaf is next door, also worth checking out!

I discovered this place through inkind (they have $25 off $50 your first order with a referral code) and got the banh xeo and hu tieu. The banh xeo was tasty with fresh lettuce and herbs, however they were skimpy with the shrimp which was cut in half. The Hu tieu included fish cake which wasn't good but overall decent dish. The second time, I got the Bo luc lac and my dad got bun Bo la lot and both dishes were excellent. They took awhile with my dad's dish (it arrived when I had finished my dish) so they made it complimentary which was very nice customer service.

Food - very local authentic Vietnamese casual restaurant. Largest ban xeo! The beef was pretty flavorful too. Got capote smoothie something I haven't had before so it was an interesting experience. Service fast friendly. Yelp challenge, 100 challenge, 2025

First off the service was friendly and food came out quick. We decided to try a variety of things. I had the hu tieu na vang. It had meats, intestines, shrimps, and noodle. You can get it with broth or broth on the side. The banh xeo was huge and crispy. The banh knot is like a mini version of it. Banh bot chien is crispy and the sauce that goes with it goes perfectly.

The food here is 10/10 so good! Best Bahn Xeo i've ever had. The people are so kind and you can find a table on a Saturday and Sunday easily.

I couldn't find this on Yelp but I was coming to this shopping center because of a Yelp drop in event at Tastea. Parking on a weekday at 11 was easy and right up front. I ordered the kid's dry noodle dish with broth on the side and the banh khot. The noodles were so flavorful and delicious. Broth was fantastic and had a lot of depth. The banh khot was flavorless and tasted like mush and coconut milk. Veggies came in their own box but when I opened it there was a bit of a wet dog smell. I might just be sensitive to smell. I was never brought any water. Everyone was very nice but the wait for the food took a second. They also make it to order so that's a bonus. Clean place and easy to get a table.

My friend and I wanted to eat Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang. Therefore, we decided to come here for lunch. We really enjoyed eating Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang because it tasted so delicious. We also liked the custard apple smoothies. The restaurant's interior design is very beautiful and elegant. The service was great, and the server was very professional. We decided to come back to this restaurant again because we want to try their Cháo lòng pork organ congee made with rice porridge. Their Cháo lòng was also very delicious. I will definitely come back again in the future and highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Very hearty and not too spicy. The broth is rich with a refreshing relish tang. My BF and I shared a bowl because there was no way I would've finished it on my own with everything else we ordered. Chicken Dumplings in Beef Soup - Seems to use the same broth as the Beef Noodle Soup. Not my personal favorite because the dumpling wrapper is a bit too thick, but it's a small miss considering how fond I already am of this place. Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings - How is this place making money? These things are massive and deliciously oily. There's a clean Maillard effect on the bottom that adds so much flavor. They also have an interesting fold--I've never seen dumplings shaped quite like this before. The pork flavor comes through strongly with the classic scallion combo. Steamed Bao Bun - Yaass, reliving my Chinese drama dreams. These weren't as sweet as the commercial ones, which I personally prefer. Still, I reckon this is how they tasted in those shows, so I'm stoked for the experience. Now, will I say this is the absolute best dumpling place in Houston? No--but there is something undeniably attractive about this place, and it is fundamentally delicious. It embodies one of the best versions of a classic mom-and-pop restaurant, serving homemade food that isn't perfect but reflects craftsmanship and care beyond the appeal of modern restaurants. My dumplings weren't wrapped with perfect precision, nor were they the pinnacle of healthy eating. They were just blatantly delicious--like when your mom cooks your favorite meal on a weekend night. That's why I would come back. This place represents the most authentic form of home and freedom in food. The downside of all the carbs I ate is that I had to volunteer at my local theatre afterward, and I was crashing haaaaaard while sending this place so much love.

The sesame sauce brings everything together and it's amazingly refreshing and hearty at the same time. The pan fried buns were also quite yummy with a golden crispy bottom and fluffy exterior. My diagnosis: come here for the best liangpi and well made dumplings and buns

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. I also ordered the Beef Noodle Soup. The portion of noodles and beef was generous, but I thought the broth lacked depth and had far too much chili oil. Instead of providing a pleasant spice, the excess oil left a greasy coating in my throat that actually made me cough. The other dishes were less impressive. The Pork Bao tasted like they had been frozen and reheated, with slightly soggy, overcooked buns and a filling that lacked flavor. The Egg Rolls were also extremely small and had that same frozen, store-bought quality. Overall, the service was great and there were a few solid dishes, especially the chicken dumplings, but too many of the items tasted like frozen or pre-prepared food. Not many restaurants in Houston offer Takowasa, which is marinated raw octopus with wasabi; and when we find one that does, it's our must order for appetizers. The tofu was soft and lightly battered, however the downside is that it gets soggy quickly since it's sitting in the sauce rather than on the side. For our entrees, we got the carbonara, curry tonkatsu rice, niku tama ankake, and kakuni udon. The carbonara was nice and creamy. The curry rice tastes exactly like the Japanese box curry. The niku tama is more of a thicker soup base similar to egg drop soup, however has a more slightly sweet umami flavor. The kakuni udon had a lighter broth with braised pork belly.
