Yen's is awesome Chinese food period. My fav is the dried chili with beef (spicy). Good soup and fish dishes as well.

The 3 cup rice was great! The Yen's special rice is also good. Great customer service.

Went there based on all the positive yelp reviews. The fish in spicy soy sauce was too salty. The crispy sesame beef was too sweet and oily. We both ended up not bring able to finish our meals. Boxed them up and they tasted worse when we got home. Not sure if we just ordered the wrong items. This also makes me wonder about the authenticity of yelp reviews. read more

WOW! This is some of the best food I have ever had! My boyfriend and I ate here for a late lunch about a month ago, and we still talk about how great a meal it was! When you walk in you are immediately greeted by the entire staff, they make you feel right at home. They only have seven tables and a bar, but they have eight employees working in the dining room to accommodate you. We started with the mint tea, it is served in an ornate tea set with dried honey on the side. Not knowing what to expect from the dry honey, I was surprised to find how great the honey complimented the tea. We ordered crab rangoon to start. The rangoon was perfectly cooked- crispy, and the filling tasted fresh, unlike most Chinese restaurants where the inside tastes like imitation crab. The two dipping sauces that were served with the rangoon were delicious as well, one was sweet and the other spicy. We then ordered the chicken lo mein and the sesame crispy beef. I will do my best but words can't describe how good these dishes were! The lo mein noodles tasted fresh-like they were made in house. The chicken was perfectly flavored and no weird pieces. It wasn't greasy at all, like some lo mein I have had in the past can tend to be. Before eating lo mein at Yen's I thought lo mein was lo mein, but in fact I was wrong about this, the lo mein at Yen's is so superior to any lo mein I have had in the past. The crispy beef is like heaven in your mouth. It is so crispy and yet tender at the same time. How do they do it?! The beef was perfectly sauced with a sweet, orange glaze that was flavorful, but not overpowering. And at the end of the meal you receive a free dessert! Wonderful hot buns with a custard filling. Sooo good- and free! I can't end this post without commenting again about the superior service. When you go to Yen's they treat you like family. It is a testament that I drove fifty minutes each way and would give ten stars if possible. I probably drove past fifty Chinese restaurants on the way here, but would chose Yen's in a heartbeat. Decided to meet my husband here for lunch today. Been wanted to try it based off the reviews here in Yelp. We were greeted right when we walked in and seated right away. This place is smaller than I've expected but still very busy. Once a table got up - it would get cleaned and be sat by next customers right away. Their lunch combos are such a good deal and they have so many items on their menu to choose from. Today I decided to get the bourbon chicken lunch combo which comes with a choice of fried or white rice/salad/choice of wonton soup, egg drop soup, or hot & sour soup/egg roll. Everything on their menu is very reasonable pricing and it was good! My husband got the shrimp lo mein lunch combo which comes with a choice of soup. They don't use real Lo mein noodles but I guess that's their way of doing it. I will definitely be back to try more items. All the staff is very attentive. read more

No one does it better. The food it AMAZING. It's totally Taiwanese and I've never had anything like it, or better. They serve classics everyone (else) can get their heads around,but if you are a foodie and love good food, you have GOT to eat here. Warning, it only has like 8 tables, so it's mostly a carry out place and SO WORTH IT. My goal is to try everything on their menu, it sooo good. Also of note are their fresh juices, they're expensive but so worth it. They juice fresh fruit right at the bar and they are seriously refreshing. They'll guide you either to something that's good for you and your particular "health" needs, or whatever you might like. The family is amazing that runs it, so nice. read more

They have some great Taiwanese dishes on the menu. This place is a find in the middle of the vast residential community in Ashburn. It's a small and quiet place tucked behind the Giant shopping center but once you try their tasty and authentic Chinese cuisine, you'll be craving for their dishes. Decided to order delivery on a Thursday afternoon. My friend was over with her kids and was also starving. We ordered using their online option (which is an automatic 10% off your bill). We had the orange chicken lunch combo that comes with rice, soup, fried spring roll and a salad all in a plastic bento box. We also ordered the combination lo mein and chicken with mixed veggies. Let me start off by saying that the service is quite good! Welcoming, attentive, helpful, quick. That is saying a lot given my numerous experiences in No.VA at Chinese food joints. Let's just say, the quicker you get outa those places, the better. At Yen's that wasn't the case. It's a cute little place that fills fast during lunchtime on a Saturday. But while people rave about the food here, I can't say it was good enough and a good enough value to bring me back. In fact for $40 elsewhere, I have gotten twice as much food with comparable taste and quality...some even better. And, the dishes I ordered were not complex or uncommon. The biggest detractor for me was that all of the food was quite greasy. For this price point, I expect practically greaseless and fresh-tasting. Appetizer, two entrees, and tea. The taste was decent but nothing to write home about, especially when home generates some of the best Chinese food outside of China. Knowing good Chinese food is in my blood, and the bar is set perpetually high. I may give Yen's another shot to see if there's some hidden deliciousness that I missed and that can justify paying so much for Chinese food. Not in a hurry though, so my quest to find good Chinese food that I'm willing to share with peeps from home definitely continues. The food, service and price was all great. The waiter was very helpful regarding vegan food options and suggested the eggplant basil, which we found quite tasty. We also ordered a beef soup and spring rolls. At the end, the waiter brought us complimentary dessert balls filled with red bean paste and custard. All in all, the food we ate was rich; the next time I come I will focus on ordering menu items with more greens and vegetables in to balance out the oil and starches. The bathroom toilet paper was very luxurious to touch, as was the sink and counter. The food here is great! We started with soup, sweet & sour - better than most I've had & won ton - also excellent. Perhaps the chef went on vacation, but this was the worst Chinese food ever. Spring rolls - fine. Soup - different from the normal wonton soup although the wontons spent way too much time in the broth. The roast pork lo mein and shrimp fried rice were both disasters. The lo mein had almost no flavor, and certainly not roast pork I'm used to. The shrimp fried rice was more like steamed rice with poached, undercooked tired shrimp. We tried a little of each and the rest went down the garbage disposal. Our previous favorite Chinese place went under new management and we were looking for a replacement. This isn't it. read more

Yen's Cafe is one my favor place. My family visit there once a week. Their Taiwan style Chinese food really brings comfort to my stomach. If you are looking for Hunan style or Sichuan style food, Yen's café properly is not your best choice. Their staff is very friendly and helpful. The only concern I have is that the restaurant is super small, yea super super small. It will be wise to call ahead for reservation for large part (6 people), otherwise you might have to wait at outside of the restaurant. read more

This was an unplanned dinner but wow am I glad we went. Everything we ordered was great. We had Taiwan steamed dumplings, moo shu chicken and beef with onions. I called to order delivery and was told I was 4.5 miles away. I checked on my GPS, Google Maps and Mapquest and saw that I was only 3 miles away. I called them back and told them the distance I had and they still refused to delver to me unless I order $45 dollars worth of food. Needless to say I did not and will not plan to in the future. This is a great hidden gem in Ashburn. We thought we'd try something other than our regular place and we might have found a new go-to. Far better than most other similar places we've tried and the only Taiwanese that I'm aware of in the area. Super friendly staff and everything tasted great. The worst customer experience ever. We were seated right infront of the restrooms. If the restaurant didnot have space they should have probably asked us to wait. How can you put in a table and 2 chairs right infront of the mens and womens toilet? Who does that. Don't you think the entire experience would be so horrible doing that. Love the food and atmosphere of this place. If you like mainstream Chinese dining (Pei Wei, Panda Express) then most likely this place isn't for you. If you like traditional Chinese (Asian) style cooking then I highly recommend going here. The place is small, a little odd layout/seating, and the wait staff consists of family/friends. Without question the best Chinese food in Loudoun, perhaps in Northern VA.  Everything is good, the people are fantastic.  We love their Wonton soup and Orange Chicken.  If you like things that are sweet try the chef's specialty, Crispy Beef, you won't be sorry. read more

Wish I could give more as overall I think this is a good place; however, I found my entree, Crispy Sesame Beef, almost inedible. This was given to me by my server when I asked for a "Taiwanese specialty" recommendation. It was all crispy and no beef -- like biting into a chicken nugget and not finding any chicken. Or like small strips of pork rinds covered in sauce. I kept eating for a while, thinking maybe I was just getting some bad pieces but they were all like that. My guess is that the beef used was too fatty and when it was fried it just all evaporated. When they asked me if I didn't like it (it was plain to see that I had only taken a handful of bites) they said they were sorry but didn't offer to get me anything else. They did give me a free "Chinese donut" -- I don't know if that was because of my complaint or something they do for everyone. The "Chinese donut" was not your standard-issue Chinese restaurant fried canned biscuit dough job -- it was actually a small bun filled with a sweet egg custard. It was quite good, as were the Shanghai Spring Rolls. Unfortunately, they were out of pot stickers as that was my first choice. The Ham & Corn Egg Drop Soup was average. I would give it a try and order something else next time, but remain disappointed in how the situation was handled. read more
