Pretty solid spot for takeout. Prices are on the higher side, but I felt the portions were generous. Parking in this plaza can be difficult but there is ample outdoor seating if you plan to eat there. Ordered the green bean bowl, slippery shrimp a la cart and a peach iced tea. The first bite of the house pan fried noodles already foreshadowed the goodness of what was to come. Generous portions of chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp smothered the noodles- pan fried sorta crispy sorta soft with a sorta charred taste that qualifies this iteration of its name. Tonight's other special was the deep fried pork chops- battered, fried to a crisp, topped with jalapeño. A perfect date with the beer. Admittedly, the spring rolls were institutional, but that's not always a bad thing...as my friends will tell you, I occasionally get nostalgic for the food I once ate at my junior high cafeteria. I'm going to be completely transparent here, I did not care to try this place. Yes, by now we all know they originated from Chinatown, one I still recommend to people since I work in the DTLA area. After it opened and looking at reviews and photos, I still wasn't impressed but my husband really wanted to try it out and support. I felt it was overpriced Chinese fast food. Don't knock on me just yet, my dad was a chef for 10 + years and even owned his own Chinese restaurant before he had to stop. So I have just a bit of leverage to speak. Anyways, the flavors are there! I love stir-fried string beans. I asked for less salt because I know how salty this dish can get. It turned out just right. The slippery shrimp was really good and crispy too. We also ordered the shrimp fried rice for later. Not overly seasoned, some may say it was bland but we were fine with it. It had a good amount of shrimp. With tip, the total was nearly $38. The one thing that made for a bad bowl was the rice. It was clumpy all around. When it's cooked in a huge batch, it's bound to happen. We definitely lack good Chinese food in Lakewood/Long Beach, so I appreciate them here and hope they continue to doing well. So I've been a fan of Yang Chows in dtla China Town for over a decade and since I moved down to Long Beach, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they've opened up a fast food version 2miles from where I live. YAY!! We now have a second GREAT Chinese place in Long Beach! Granted it's a small-ish menu (because they're in a small space and wouldn't have the ability to store additional ingredients), but what they have is TASTY!! I have enjoyed the original Yang Chow in LA's Chinatown for over 15 years and now we have a petite version here in Long Beach. Their Slippery Shrimp is the first reason to go. I have always found it difficult to explain to people but as the manager Benny said, it's sweet, sour, a wee bit spicy, garlicky, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. And I would add slightly sticky from the amazingly delicious sauce. They're famous for it. But eat it hot. Do not take it all the way home, giving it time to cool down. And don't get the Slippery Chicken, get the Shrimp. You'll be happy you did. Get the larger size. You'll want the leftovers. A few cold pieces as a midnight snack hits the spot. We also tried the Szechuan Chicken Bowl, which was so very good: crunchy, great sauce, fresh broccoli, and rice. Benny suggested getting the Szechuan Beef "done crispy" next time. He says it's amazing. And I had the Milk Tea (Black tea). Yum. Benny has terrific customer service skills. It's a small space with a small parking lot, so it's easier to go during off-times. Once they open for lunch, they're open all day. You can also get takeout and bring it next door to Steady Brewing's Tap Room and enjoy their IPAs, Porters, and more. And be sure to pick up dessert from Creative Cakery, a couple doors down, in this nicely rehabbed small strip mall on Clark, near Spring. The broccoli, which is the only veg and what I was looking forward to as a contrast to the shrimp, was barely steamed and mostly still raw. This Yang Chow is a more informal, casual, take out, faster kind of place compared to the full on dine-in restaurant in downtown LA. The prices are pretty steep tbh but I love Yang Chow so much and I'm just so damn happy there's a location in my own hometown down the street from me. The food still tasted as excellent and flavorful as I remembered from the original location. The place is tiny, I'm talking like 6 tables of 2 inside and there's barely room inside for a line to form. I think there were outdoor tables, though. Parking could get tight as the plaza gets busier but I think there's street parking around, too, I'm not sure. The menu is minimal and I wish it was more extensive, but I understand their limited space and focus on their signature dishes. They also serve tea and boba. I tried the oolong tea with boba. It was refreshing and the boba was slightly sweet. I liked it enough that I'd try their other teas. Forever grateful for this location and I can't wait to keep coming back! read more

So we happened upon Yang Chow 2.0 the week it opened and it has become my families favorite Chinese restaurant and top 3 favorite overall restaurant in the area! They are famous for their slippery shrimp and it's soooo good and worth every penny. Their shrimp fried rice is delicious, the pork chops and fried chicken wings in the Yang Chow special sauce are great too! They are super friendly and always remember my father especially Benny the owner who he's become friends with since he came in so much for takeout! I got food delivered to my hotel while at a conference and it was pretty good. I purchased the slippery shrimp and slippery chicken with both brown and white rice with a side of fried vegetable egg rolls. The slippery chicken gets The slippery shrimp gets The vegetable egg rolls got The rice got There offered options to add the vegetables of my choice to the main dishes along with the option to specify the level of heat to the sauce on the protein. The shrimp was delicious. It was a crunch festival of flavor with an excellent fried crunchy crust smothered in a sweet and sour-ish sauce. So the texture and flavor were both delicious and done quite well. I wish I could say the same about the slippery chicken. The chicken was not as fresh as expected it to be. It seemed like it was fried extra hard and long with lots of crust; and then buried in the sauce. Here is a tip to the owners: anyone that is enough of a foodie to write a review is paying attention to the texture and flavor profile of your dishes. The chicken was as chewy as taffy, not especially fresh and was all dark meet with random assaults of cartilage. If there is a way to offer an all white meat option, I suggest you offer it ASAP. I wanted to like the chicken, but I didn't. I believe it could be a star and challenge bon chon chicken based on the flavor of the crust/batter on the chicken. But my experience brings the visual of someone hacking up a rubber chicken from an old school comedy act and using it instead of fresh chicken. So that is how I arrived at my conclusion of four stars. My experience with the chicken made me almost opt for a three but everything else was scrumptious and perhaps I got an off serving of chicken. Therefore, four stars seem like the logical choice. Would I come back? Yes, but I'm not excited about eating the leftover chicken. I'm considering donating it to a hungry soul on the streets.
