This is the place I once had food up in the past, and since I moved here, I haven't had it until last weekend. I was definitely feeling Chinese and didn't want to go to my regular place. I wanted to find out if this spot was as good as I had remembered it. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I was practically disappointed by two out of the three dishes. Two of them that should've been the best. I'll start out with the Mongolian beef. There was plenty of meat and onions and green onions, but there was no kick to it, not the greatest flavor either. It was also a little watery, which was a major letdown for me. I was really looking forward to enjoying it with the white rice that came with it. Next up was the chicken chow mein. I was expecting to have long noodles in its to go box but when I was eating it, it was small noodle cuts. That was a bit shocking for me. It also didn't have a lot of great flavor, and again I was let down. I did get vegetable fried rice, because who could actually screw that up. It was the best dish out of the three. Not a ton of flavor in it but enough for me to actually enjoy it. I tried using the leftover chow mein by putting it in a skillet and adding a few spices and oils. It improved it just a little bit, but not enough. Clearly, I can't go back here. It's like they say: buy cheap get cheap. read more

The Chinese lady may seem rude but that's just how we talk. She's actually very nice and accommodating. Beef chow fun came out in minutes, piping hot. I'd say it needed a bit more flavor and I wish the noodles were a bit bouncier but it wasn't bad. Place seems a bit old but with the prices they have, I'd still come back to try something else. read more

Tried out JJ Chinese Express while in the area, and it did not disappoint. Ordered the Orange chicken, wings, and eggplant tofu. Everything was delicious and piping hot when we received it. The wings were immaculate with their size and crispy texture. I'd say they are the best wings I've ever had. Loved the huge size of the eggplant and tofu and the orange chicken was so flavorful. May 17, 2026 Love this little hole in the wall. Located in a strip mall behind El Pollo Loco, it's a hidden gem for good Chinese food. There's no dining inside so everything thing is "to go". I love their Shrimp Fried Rice and I always order extra shrimp. Their Orange Chicken is also very good, and I get a bag of Fortune Cookies for later snacking. They have a large Uber Eats/Grubhub stream of business. I always go pick up my food but would consider using one of these services in the future. Food is reasonably priced and staff are very friendly. There's both street and lot parking. Give it a try. read more

I've been wanting to try JJ Chinese Express since i get my car washed right across at Coastline! Walked in and it's definitely a place you go to order your food and eat it somewhere else. No frills no tables to dine in at but the food I got was great! Big portions too! I ordered the Szechuan beef with fried rice and a small order of roasted pork chow mein which fed me for 3 days! Probably one of the best Chinese Fast Food joints in the LBC! I ordered this through door dash for my kids because they wanted Egg Fu Young. It's a small shop right behind El Pollo Loco on the East side. We pass by this spot and never had the opportunity to try it. Saw their reviews on their Egg Fu Young and we had to try it. It was so savory and absolutely delicious. I ordered the house special egg fu young and the house combination egg fu young. Solid place for Chinese food takeout! We usually order the orange chicken dinner combination plate with fried rice and cheese wontons with the egg drop soup and they give huge portions-huge plus! I also love the chow mein although it's a tad greasy, but very very delicious! There is plenty of parking and it's easy to pull in and pick up your takeout. Great value for your money here as well. With all Chinese food I just recommend polishing it off while it's fresh because it doesn't re heat super great. But as far as Chinese takeout goes in Long Beach this is one of my fave spots so check them out! read more

Based on the Yelp comments and the proximity, I tried JJ Chinese Express. Outcome: Not so good food. They did have the order ready on-time and the Chinese mustard was excellent. The vegetable egg rolls were soggy in the center. The House Fried Rice had a strange red coloring although no distinct taste even with chicken, beef and shrimp. The Chicken in Garlic sauce had a sweet flavored sauce. The mustard helped on all the dishes! This place was express, but next time I need to find a place called delicious. read more

Love this place! I used to order delivery from here when I stayed near downtown LB. You gotta get delivery for certain places when living close to downtown, am I right people? (IYKYK) And it has gotten better since the last time I had it. I was craving something from here but could not figure out what until I went through the lunch menu... it was the honey garlic chicken. Yums. I ordered the honey garlic chicken, beef and broccoli and green beans in brown sauce all from the lunch menu. $30 with tip. The lunch options come with an egg roll, choice of white or fried rice and the choice of soup or a soda. Nothing disappointed. Everything on point. They upgraded their fried rice, very nice. I grew up over a Chinese restaurant in New York City. I know my Chinese food. This is absolutely the best in Long Beach, it's only a little hole in the wall with take out but everything is delicious. Try something different and you will be delighted... We discovered the fried tofu with honey garlic sauce and it is amazing. Found this little gem on Yelp today 10/16/23. I called to order a pickup and was told it'd take 15 min. I ordered the lunch portion Honey Garlic Chicken. I had my choice of fried or white rice, an egg roll and soup or soda. I selected the fried rice and wonton soup. I also ordered Honey walnut shrimp and it came with white rice. My total billl was about $26. The wonton soup was delicious and almost soothing. I didn't finish my lunch but it's just as tasty. Can't wait to get to my honey walnut shrimp. I will be back. The DoorDash experience itself was a nightmare but had nothing to do with the restaurant I give them one star for portions and one star for service because the lady on the phone was helpful when I called to see why the driver canceled my order I ordered 5 dishes total and out of everything the only thing I would ever eat again from here would be the hot and sour soup. THAT was phenomenal First off EVERYTHING was bland. I appreciate that no salt was used for health reasons but there was absolutely no flavor on any of the food. JJ Chinese Express has remained dependable throughout all of the bullshit going in this world. They don't change their hours, they are always nice, fast and helpful, and their prices are so close to what they were 7 years ago when i started going there that it seems impossible. You can order online for your convenience and parking is easy and free, but an in person order never takes long and cuts out the fees of their middle men. The restaurant is everything you want in your Chinese takeout: clean and sparsely furnished, this food is to GO, and the screen door is my personal favorite part of the overall ambiance. What it comes down to is the food: Each item is prepared fresh to order. They are definitely not scooping day old chicken out of a tray for you. The flavor is incredible and everything I have ever ordered is a hit. A major standout is the greatest of all time honey garlic chicken, and my go to orders are the Singapore mei fun and bbq pork sliced appetizer(pictures included). The portions are huge and any time i order from JJ i will have 2-3 days worth of leftovers. They're only closed on Tuesdays, but they're the best Chinese food in Long Beach 7 days a week. read more

VERY impressed with the flavors here! It's definitely "classic" Chinese-American comfort food, but everything is tasty, and just as good (or better) than other restaurants that'd charge double! This will be my new go-to. I only tried veggie items, and the orange flavor tofu and tofu with eggplant were standout dishes! Hands down the best treatment of tofu by a Chinese restaurant around. And I love how many options they have. I'll slowly be making my way down the menu and trying each of the tofu dishes! I also got the veggie mu shu (the wraps were HIGH QUALITY), veggie chow mein (great), and honey garlic tofu (light and tasty, but I'd probably stick to the other tofu items next time since they were packed with so much flavor). Their spicy chicken wings are still one of the best even better than what you find in the 626! Although the breading is THICC it's still so crispy and bomb for the price too! The Americanized Chinese food has gotten better and I would say their hot and sour soup is exactly one of the best and reminded me of the hot and sour soup from my local childhood restaurant. Dinner portions are generous @ $10 for a large comes with a shared container of white rice. Parking is a smaller shared lot, busy during dinner time but great for a quick in and out takeout.
