Thin pieces of salmon sashimi and tobiko nigiri
    Carmen P.

Super excited and hungry to order in some sushi. I got the wild salmon sashimi, tobiko nigiri and rainbow roll which was pretty much a California roll with fake crab with random sashimi on top. Perhaps excitement got the best of me. The salmon were very thin slices, tobiko unfortunately was packed inappropriately that I lost most of the tobiko (I just used a spoon instead to eat it) but the rainbow roll was the biggest let down. It was bland and the sashimi was paper thin. There was one shrimp piece which was the decent one out of the whole lot. The $25 meal unfortunately, was a real let down.

After multiple recommendations to try the "best BC rolls in Vancouver" here, I had to try them. I found them very good except the salmon was pretty oily. More so than it needs to be. the oil was so heavy that a napkin could be used to soak some off. I love salmon but I actually enjoyed to tropical roll more. The seaweed salad was really good! The tea and miso soup was also stellar! The service was prompt and I appreciate their patience with us as we were there shortly before closing and they didn't try to rush us out.

    Alaska Roll

Just came here for a quick takeout lunch during my lunch break at work. I've been curious to try this place because it's next to Tim Hortons where I grab tea in the morning sometimes before work. Anyways it was my first time here and I was only looking for something small. The restaurant is clean but pretty tiny; it was full when I walked in and busy. I decided to order the Alaska Roll (around $8.95) only because they are my favourite roll to order every time I eat out at a sushi restaurant. It took under 10 minutes for my food to arrive to which I brought back to work to eat. When I opened my takeout box I was a little bit surprised because it didn't look like a conventional Alaska Roll. It was a little bit messy (the rolls were all over the place) so i was sort of put off (it's not like i shook the bag as I was walking back to work). The avocado pieces were too small for my liking and I didn't understand the honey mustard sauce on top of the roll. I mean I'm not an expert on sushi but I kind of think that honey mustard doesn't belong on sushi? (Shrug). I don't know how I felt about the roll. The portion size was ok but I didn't like the ratio of the crabmeat to the avocado. The sauce was a weird addition, and I thought the price point for this roll was too much. To say the least, I'm still a loyal fan to Sushi Garden when it comes to Alaska Rolls. Not sure if I'd come back to this place to try something else off their menu. The Alaska was good (minus the above observations) but the quality isn't justified for the price in my opinion.

Bento A - so much food! And delicious karate!

Went to a pet shop in the little strip mall next to YANAKI and notice this cute little sushi shop and decided to try it - good decision as the place was nice, food good and service prompt and friendly. The best part of the menu is their bento boxes - I chose bento A and it was perfect! Great Karage (crispy yet juicy), colourful paradise roll (which is akin to California roll), yummy chicken teriyaki and 6 thick fresh sashimi slabs - and it was so much food, I was stuffed. My daughter ordered a spider and a California rolls which were quite large (although not the large tasteless kind from Rezzies who thinks quantity is all that matters!) and very tasty. My better half also ordered Bento A but had the beef teriyaki. And to cap it all off - complimentary appetizers- nice touch! Very pleasantly surprised by this little place we just chanced upon and will be back - especially if we want to visit the pet supply shop next door again.

Blink & you'll miss this jewel of a sushi joint. Hidden in plain sight in a strip mall, this place rocks the rolls - Special Rolls, that is! With 35+ options, complete with descriptions of what goes INTO & on TOP of the rolls, one may view this as a personal challenge to try them all. Challenge accepted. A roll or 5 later, it's clear: These are not your run-of-the-mill rolls. They are structurally sound, filled with fresh ingredients and packed with layered flavours & textural punches. No duds encountered yet! Standouts: - crunch roll ($6.95): potato flakes own sesame seeds. any day. - calamari tempura roll ($7.95): fried, tender calamari? big fan. - Aloha roll ($10.95): sauce is hot hot hot! try not to cry. Yanaki Sushi has mastered the art of harmonizing creativity with impeccable technique. Even the overdone cliche of bento boxes are thoughtfully prepared to please the eye as much as the palate. Price is right, the space is zen & the freebie appies are a unique touch. Steer clear of the takoyaki though. Not up to snuff. In a town strewn with 'specialty roll' places, this ranks up there as one of the best.

    Free appy - yum!

For consistency in service (little touches like free mini-appys, and frozen grapes après meal, attentiveness), occasionally a parking spot right in the lot, cleanliness, lunch bento boxes sub 10!, and quick food service. This is a Korean run establishment not Japanese; but for casual dining, it's perfect!

Close geographically to the water and still managed to have some of the most unpleasant tuna I've had in Vancouver. Go somewhere else.

You order and they make it in front of you and you head over to grab your tempura or sides and then you head off to the till to pay. It is a very efficient system. The place is clean and has a good amount of seating. I highly recommend coming here for lunch. They also have late night special for those partying out late and are hungry.

Not too loud. But definitely better than a fast food place. For this kind of place, it's as good as it gets. 4 stars - extremely solid and reliable place, it's just not a 5 stars for me because it doesn't blow my mind or anything.

Paid parking was not too hard to find on the Main Street but during busy dining hours it might be difficult. We got seated right away at the bar since there were no tables open and the service was quick. Traditional Japanese style ambiance and even the bathroom had rounded Japanese bowl sink. As someone who doesn't have chicken broth (paitan style) ramen, I was really looking forward to the original ramen I ordered but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profile of the dish. The ramen had both chasu and seaweed paired with thin round noodles. The broth was creamy and had a hint of chicken flavor but even adding several rounds of their soy sauce/salt seasoning they have on the side to adjust your broth to your liking-- I found that the richness of the soup was not what I had expected from the reviews that I read prior to coming here. Overall, a bit disappointed in the flavoring of the broth but maybe we came on an off day. I would be willing to give it a shot again in the future if I had ramen cravings and given that it was very affordable ($11-15 per bowl with tip), but I would probably opt to try another place first.

Review #3 for 2026 I…read morereally wanted to like this place. I watched many videos and read reviews before coming here, but it just did not hit the spot. After a cold day of exploring Stanley Park, we felt that ramen would really hit the spot, so we went here not wanting to deal with a wait at Danbo with a hungry and tired toddler. There was NO wait when we arrived here and we were seated immediately... which for a place that was really hyped up, should had made us think twice. There was only 1 other party at the restaurant. Now, the workers were super nice and the food came out quickly and we did eat everything because we were starving. We all ordered the cha-shu tamago ramen, 2 of us got spicy and 2 of us non-spicy. It came with extra chashu and the soft boiled egg for about $20 Canadian. The bowl was a good size and there was a promo for free extra noodles while we were there. Everyone except me in our group took advantage of it because I was too full from my bowl. Now, the broth here is different from other places because it is chicken based and not pork based. Everything I had seen about this place promised the broth is every bit just as good as the pork bone broth... however, the broth we received looked flavorful, but was bland. It was completely bland. There was no richness to it, not even a hint. I don't know, coming from southern California, the flavor just was not there period. We did all eat our food because we were starving, but it for sure did not hit the spot at all. Maybe we got an off day? Otherwise our broth had literally zero flavor to it. We all wished we had tried the other ramen place instead right after trying our ramen. Would I come back? I will have to say definitely no. We do not live in Vancouver and I do not want to waste any meals on a place that did not taste good the first time we went.

The gentleman (owner?) greeted us and provided us with some suggestions on their best sellers. During our dining experience, he was a little loud with shouting instructions to the kitchen and we did feel a bit rushed to finish our meal and not occupy the table with diners lining up. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and the noodles were prepared well (good texture and not soggy) and the soup had a slight but not overwhelm sour taste from the preserved vegetables. The beef wasn't as tender as it could be, but it wasn't chewy or tough to eat. Prices are reasonable at around $20 after tax and tips. While it wasn't the best or most authentic beef noodle soup I've had, it does hit the spot if I'm craving Taiwanese food downtown or want a hot bowl of noodle soup on a cold day.

I think most people do that so it also gets filled up during the lunch hour rush. The food is ok, nothing special. The price increase makes it even less appealing. I don't know why there is chili in my Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I don't like spicy soup. Lucky I am ok with spice but I wish it is stated in the menu? So if you cannot take spicy food, check with them before ordering. The beef noodle soup is tasty as I do like the addition of pickled vegetables in it, giving a bit of tartness. The beef is tender though the quantity is very little. More noodles than meat ratio. The combo is totally not worth it now that the price has gone up to about $13. If you want rice and noodle for lunch, I think Peaceful Restaurant across the street is a better bet. At least the portion is bigger.

Beef Brisket and Beef Ball in Noodle Soup (Large $17.62) - again, VERY bland broth. The noodles also tasted sort of like freezer burn? Decent portion of meat and filling enough.
