Came to this place before and was pleasantly surprised by its improvement. Still tucked away, which is nice, and still continues to have a steady stream of customers doing take out and dining in. Great for singles and gatherings up to 4, might be a bit squishy for bigger parties. They have two dinner bento boxes to choose from ($20-$21). Chicken Karrage ($9) skin was light and crispy and tuna tataki ($10.5) was on point. Price for the food was fair and in comparison to other sushi places on the medium end. Portions weren't huge compared to Samurai, but the menu had a lot of variety and food was delicious. They had a nice touch of giving customers a little tiny piece of spring roll for free. An amuse bouche :) Staff is polite and friendly. Free parking in the lot, but very limited. Better to choose the side street parking around. read more

Prawn tempura - Juicy prawns with a light and fresh batter served with a hot tempura sauce. This was a highlight for me and I would definitely reorder. We've ordered from Yanaki Sushi via UberEats 3 times now in the last couple months, and we are a fan! Everything we've tried is delicious and affordable and comes well packaged. So far we've tried: veggie yakisoba, karaage, okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake / pizza), oyakodon, various sushi rolls and sashimi, and potato croquette, and everything has been great! The only minor complaint I have is that they tend to go heavy on the mayo and less on the okonomiyaki sauce for the okonomiyaki, but that's just a minor complaint. This has now become our go-to Japanese delivery spot since we know we can't go wrong with anything here. read more

Super excited and hungry to order in some sushi. I got the wild salmon sashimi, tobiko nigiri and rainbow roll which was pretty much a California roll with fake crab with random sashimi on top. Perhaps excitement got the best of me. The salmon were very thin slices, tobiko unfortunately was packed inappropriately that I lost most of the tobiko (I just used a spoon instead to eat it) but the rainbow roll was the biggest let down. It was bland and the sashimi was paper thin. There was one shrimp piece which was the decent one out of the whole lot. The $25 meal unfortunately, was a real let down. read more

After multiple recommendations to try the "best BC rolls in Vancouver" here, I had to try them. I found them very good except the salmon was pretty oily. More so than it needs to be. the oil was so heavy that a napkin could be used to soak some off. I love salmon but I actually enjoyed to tropical roll more. The seaweed salad was really good! The tea and miso soup was also stellar! The service was prompt and I appreciate their patience with us as we were there shortly before closing and they didn't try to rush us out. read more

Disappointed at the Chef's attitude. I ordered a simple lunch bento box, and the portion with the chicken teriyaki rice tasted quite burnt. I am a chef and restauranteur myself and the sauce was clearly burnt and smokey when they poured it over the rice. I asked for a replacement, and the server and chef argued back and forth with me a few times, saying that is the original taste of chicken teriyaki. I convinced the server to bring it into the kitchen and the chef was still defensive about it being fine. The taste was so burnt I did not touch the rest of the dish. I've ordered their bento box before and it had never tasted burnt in previous times. As a restauranteur myself, I left quite disappointed. In situations like these where customers express a complaint, a simple switch up would've made me quite satisfied, but instead, I left disappointed at their service. read more

Just came here for a quick takeout lunch during my lunch break at work. I've been curious to try this place because it's next to Tim Hortons where I grab tea in the morning sometimes before work. Anyways it was my first time here and I was only looking for something small. The restaurant is clean but pretty tiny; it was full when I walked in and busy. I decided to order the Alaska Roll (around $8.95) only because they are my favourite roll to order every time I eat out at a sushi restaurant. It took under 10 minutes for my food to arrive to which I brought back to work to eat. When I opened my takeout box I was a little bit surprised because it didn't look like a conventional Alaska Roll. It was a little bit messy (the rolls were all over the place) so i was sort of put off (it's not like i shook the bag as I was walking back to work). The avocado pieces were too small for my liking and I didn't understand the honey mustard sauce on top of the roll. I mean I'm not an expert on sushi but I kind of think that honey mustard doesn't belong on sushi? (Shrug). I don't know how I felt about the roll. The portion size was ok but I didn't like the ratio of the crabmeat to the avocado. The sauce was a weird addition, and I thought the price point for this roll was too much. To say the least, I'm still a loyal fan to Sushi Garden when it comes to Alaska Rolls. Not sure if I'd come back to this place to try something else off their menu. The Alaska was good (minus the above observations) but the quality isn't justified for the price in my opinion. read more

Went to a pet shop in the little strip mall next to YANAKI and notice this cute little sushi shop and decided to try it - good decision as the place was nice, food good and service prompt and friendly. The best part of the menu is their bento boxes - I chose bento A and it was perfect! Great Karage (crispy yet juicy), colourful paradise roll (which is akin to California roll), yummy chicken teriyaki and 6 thick fresh sashimi slabs - and it was so much food, I was stuffed. My daughter ordered a spider and a California rolls which were quite large (although not the large tasteless kind from Rezzies who thinks quantity is all that matters!) and very tasty. My better half also ordered Bento A but had the beef teriyaki. And to cap it all off - complimentary appetizers- nice touch! Very pleasantly surprised by this little place we just chanced upon and will be back - especially if we want to visit the pet supply shop next door again. read more

With the COVID-19 a couple of months in, it's been harder than normal to find decent sushi in Vancouver, especially for me, that's around where I work. Luckily for me, though, Yanaki Sushi turned out to be an unexpected, yet much welcome surprise. Located next to a small Tim Hortons at Willow St and W 6th Ave, this unassuming Japanese restaurant is operated by a small staff of friendly Koreans. Obviously, due to current circumstances, the only dining option is take-out, but I thought I'd give it a shot one day while I was looking for lunch around the Broadway/Cambie area. Turns out that the service was friendly and decent enough, and the food was very good! I ordered the following items: Spicy bento (spicy chicken teriyaki, steamed rice, spicy agedashi tofu, yam roll, small salad w/ small crispy spring rolls) - great value, good taste! Tuna roll - amazing almost-melt-in-your-mouth quality! Spicy chopped scallop roll - sauce was watery and roll didn't stick well together, scallop tasted okay My total bill came out to less than $30.00 for take-out, including a decent tip, and I would say it was worth every penny. It's not gonna be the best sushi of your life of course, but while some items in my meal were a bit odd, overall I was very happy with Yanaki Sushi. Another plus is that this restaurant uses biodegradable take-out containers so they're environmentally friendly; I can confirm this for those of you who take this into consideration when choosing a restaurant. My experiences have all been through delivery services. Overall solid food. They get the order right and typically it's ready the moment the driver arrives. The fish has always been fresh in flavour and not lacking in portion. That's right folks! Your tekka roll won't just have a pinstripe of tuna. Tempura arrives still warm even with the driver not using a thermal bag. Best of all, it's light and crispy with very little residual oil. For my taste, the nori is on point. It's thin and supple, and lacks that chewiness that some places have. I know there is something about crunch with nori for some, but I want that in a snack and not my sushi. Specialty rolls are fun and they have some of the standard favourites but they also do some that are a little bit different. The KTT roll is a personal favourite. The snapper tempura on top sets it apart. The rainbow roll is massive. A great I can't decide what I want option. Jalapeño bombs are a must with every order for me. They take the time to remove the stems so there's no hunting for them before you bite. And who doesn't love a jalapeño popper? It only gets better with spicy tuna in it. Lastly, the spicy sauce here is unlike anything I have had before. It's more gochujang like in flavour and texture. Big fan, much better sriracha mayo in my books. Give these people some love. They do an excellent job and it's affordable. read more

I came here straight from the airport with a friend. I'd never been, but my friend recommended it so I had to give it a try. It's hard to find - it's in a small plaza and is dwarfed by a Tim Hortons and a Szechuan Restaurant that have the better location in terms of visibility along 6th. If you're lucky to find this place, you'll be rewarded with delicious delicious fish. I was very happy with the quality of ingredients here, and the service was exceptional as well. They have a ton of signature rolls, though I thought some of them weren't as good as others. For a completely different (no fish) option, you could try the tornado roll. Or for a classic, their salmon sashimi is on point. For the four of us, we stuffed ourselves silly and each paid $23. So overall, a good deal in my books! If I'm in the city, I may stop by again, though I admit that the location makes it less than ideal for transit options compared to competition. I hope they stick it through, they deserve a bit more foot traffic! read more

This is False Creek's best kept secret! Yanaki Sushi right off of west 6th Ave is a gem of a find. Though it is small and inconspicuous - it offers food that is rich and delicious in taste! It's the perfect place for lunch - I'm there at least once a week and I'm still not sick of it! The servers are so friendly and ready to help you with any menu-related questions. Their bento lunch boxes are fabulous - and you're easily able to substitute different items in the box! My favorite is the Bento Box D and subbing in the yam tempura roll and spinach gomae. Wow. I agree Yanaki Sushi is the best sushi restaurant for False Creek and south Fairview Slopes residents. Delicious rolls, especially the special rolls like the Paradise and Dragon rolls. I love my two friends for tipping me off about this awesome sushi joint near my house. The first time i went was with a bigger group of people and we were able to order a bunch of different items to try and share. Everything tasted amazing and I got to experience some new foods I otherwise wouldn't have sampled. Since then I have been back a dozen or more times. Their Tropical Roll is amazing with a balance of both sweet and salty. My only beef is that I always seem to crave their rolls on Sundays when they're closed. Unfortunately I cannot give a passing grade here, even though service was far beyond anything you would expect for an establishment like this (we were greeted promptly and warmly, tea was refilled several times, and food arrived quickly). The food, even though moderately priced ($20 for two people!) just was something I felt poorly about paying for! I'm sorry, just being honest. We ordered an ika karaage, crunch roll and beef teriyaki don. The rice in both the roll and the rice bowl was soggy and mushy. Too moist and overcooked! The fried squid was a small portion, and was greasey and overcooked to the point of rubbery. The crunch roll was soggy instead of crunchy. The rice was too wet and the potato flakes were not adding anything. The beef rice was salty and over sauced. I can't say I'll be back, but there seemed to be a couple regulars so who knows! read more

My (crazy ex-) girlfriend LOVED this place. She has wanted to show it off to me for ages. Sadly, anytime we'd stop by, they'd be closed. Nevertheless, tonight was the night that it was promised to be open. Upon arriving we asked to sit at a table that had yet to be cleared. Nearly ten minutes later the server came by and took the dishes but left the surface as sticky as ever. A few minutes later she came by with a cloth to wipe it down. Ordering: GONG SHOW! We had to explain and point out each item on the menu. Even after giving numbers for the items, they screwed up on a salad. How? They didn't include the salad part. In the end the sushi was slow, sub-par and some of the food we ordered never showed. Luckily it didn't make the bill either, so it wasn't the worst. After a complaint to the manager they offered 10% off the total bill (a $3.45 value) which was unacceptable considering the mess we endured. We left with $10 off the cheque. In closing, don't bother going here. The glory days my girlfriend speaks of are gone. read more

Yanaki is my preferred Japanese restaurant in this neighbourhood located just outside of Olympic village. Favourites include the broccoli gomae and snapper/calamari don, but the real show stopper is the BC roll which comes fully loaded with stacks on stacks of warm and crispy salmon skin. Best BC roll in BC! Friendly service and fast delivery is an added bonus. My only point of criticism would be directed at the styrofoam takeout containers, which tend to add up when I'm enabling these particular cravings. read more

Love this place. The nicest waitresses in Vancouver and the chef is always looking for a chat. Nice atmosphere, quiet, good sushi. It loses only one start because the sushi isn't as good as say Sushi yama but it is definitely worth the trip. They always give me a little freebie treat too which is super sweet of them and I always see regulars coming in to get take outs or a quick bite...a good sign. A hidden gem that we discovered when we lived in the neighbourhood. We've moved a bit further east but still make the effort to frequent Yanaki. Friendly service, a little amouse bouche before each meal, and delicious/inventive rolls that are made with care. A must try! Every roll we have had has been fantastic but our favourites are the Alaska roll (who would have though honey mustard would go so well?!), the 911 roll, and the Jessica roll. read more

The amount of food you get for the price is amazing. We stuffed ourselves (2) for under $50. All of the rolls were high quality and decent size but 1 person needs to order at least 2 to be full. At the price points it makes sense to do so. The green salad was big and delicious. The cold vege noodle soup was great. The beef yaki udon was big and flavorful. The service was friendly and very prompt. Between the 4 of us we had about 8 rolls, 2 soups, 2 salads, and the beef and it was out in less than 10 minutes total even though they were busy. read more

My dining partner and I waited at least 15 minutes for the staff to take our order and another 10 minutes to get tea (we asked 3 times). The 2 girls on staff were too busy with take out orders to pay attention to the guests in the actual restaurant. The tables around us were not cleaned the entire time we were there, making for a very unappetizing environment. The food is ok, no special callouts that set this restaurant apart from the other average Japanese restaurants in the area. Decided to try this place on the way to Chinese restaurant, glad we did. A small restaurant in a small shopping center and a hard to find parking spot. As we walked into the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a server and pretty much picked your own table where you would like to sit. A complementary hot tea was then served. We ordered chicken teriyaki don (4/5). It's a fried chicken breast with teriyaki sauce on top of rice, a bit different from the norm but my son ate it so it must be good(he's the pickiest eater). For us we ordered chicken karage (4/5) served with garlic mayo sauce. Fried chicken itself could be better with a tad bit more seasoning but overall was good. Then for sushi we ordered toro, amaebi, tuna, chopped scallops (all 5/5). Fishes were very fresh and just a right portion of rice to fish. For rolls, we ordered some kind of crunchy fried shrimp (4/5) & tornado roll (5/5). The latter was very interesting, inside the roll was grill beef and topped with fried onion & eel sauce. It was very interesting and well put together. All of these cost us $60, super economical. Only issue I have is they don't serve sake or beer. They normally serve wines but they were out of wine tonight. read more
