the menu for the restaurant
Allison K.

Mom and pop style eatery. Simple and cozy setting. Upon walking in the colourful photos caught my attention. We weren't greeted by the waitress (wife?) when we walked in, but we were served tea and given menus right away. After ordering ... we sat for about 2 minutes before our food came. A good indication that it's pre-made and sitting around waiting for someone to order it. The waitress isn't very social. She would simply walked out of the kitchen with our food ... set it on the table ... and walked away. Each dish that was brought out to us was in complete silence. I wasn't too impressed with our food being served on disposable plates and were given disposable utensils and a Styrofoam cup for tea and a plastic bowl for soup. You had to walk through the kitchen area to get to the bathroom / storage room / hot water tank room ... the bathroom was FILTHY!!!! When you walk past the kitchen / prep area ... OMG I wanted to gag!! We won't be returning.

Sashimi Salad..

Disappointing. Ordered the sashimi salad and it arrives with one tiny piece of lettuce. Stretching the definition of salad as far as you possibly can. $13 for what amounts to 3-4 pieces of farmed salmon, 3-4 pieces of tuna and 1/4 of an avocado. Amaebi sashimi almost $18 for the worlds smallest ever shrimp.

My friends brought me here for some sushi take-out before we retired to their house for pre-drinks and debauchery as we painted the town red on Saturday night. I was delighted to see two different veggie combos on the menu, and had trouble deciding which one to pick, but ended up with the first one, along with some gomae. We ran to the liquor store while we waited for our takeout, since the only two tables in the restaurant were full. We came back to find all of our food ready and waiting. We dove into our rolls when we got back to the house, and everything tasted good. The sushi here was decent and reasonably priced. And I noticed they also have a veggie party tray if we ever decide to go crazy.

We stumbled to this sushi restaurant one evening as I have been passing by this restaurant frequently while walking to yoga class. The restaurant was packed and definitely busy with take out orders as well. Price for items is very reasonable. Quality is decent. Food was prepared quickly. The odd note is that all the food is served on take out containers. I felt like I was at the food court! Miso soup had bits of imitation crab meat which was a first for me to see in miso soup. Usually, I would find tofu. The value is there. Service was alright. The server was too busy that my tea was never refilled. Food arrived quickly. It is worth a visit if you are in the area and know what to expect.

Sushi Special - 18 pieces + miso soup for around $8!
Annie C.

Simple, affordable, consistent and good portions. I always get the sushi special when I'm here which consists of the Salmon Maki Roll, California Roll and Yam Tempura Roll. For around $7, you get 18 pieces of sushi as well as a side of miso soup. It's hard to get that kind of deal anymore anywhere! All food comes in styrofoam containers and it's really more of a to-go place but they do also have some seating inside! Don't expect anything super gourmet or super stellar service but if you're looking for a solid, cheap sushi place give this place a try!

Although I arrived at around two, they were happy to serve us and did not rush us to leave when they closed for a break at three. Super friendly and attentive staff, great food, great service…read more I ordered the Chicken Cha Cha Cha and the Popcorn sushi. Both were super delicious. The Chicken Cha Cha Cha stayed crispy through the meal, wasn't able very sweet and just what I ordered (mild spicy). The popcorn sushi was delicious, think of a deep fried roll, but not. It had tempura batter, deep fried scallops, prawn tempura and crispy shavings. This is probably gonna be my go to order whenever I come here now. I recommend you check this place out. You won't be disappointed. Came here on a Sunday night and the staff are super attentive. Not once was my tea cup ever empty. Great service.

It was not too long. Hot tea shortly after we were seated and it was relatively quick and easy to order. We got an order of salmon oishi, chopped scallops roll and a specialty roll I think it was called a Godzilla roll. Also ordered a coke zero which came with the can and a cup of ice. The food came out pretty quick and it was all very tasty. Oishi and Godzilla roll has a nice char flavour to it. My partner has come in to this spot a few times already and he has enjoyed his meals each time. He's taken out rolls before and they were still tasty after traveling 15 to 20 mins as well. Would come back , nothing too special but I would know I'd have a satisfying meal each time.

In addition, I had my usual sweetened nitro matcha and my boyfriend had a Sapporo beer (bottle). The negitoro was okay, not my favourite but yellowtail, chopped scallop, and snow crab rolls were solid. My absolute favourite is the truffle lobster roll, which I ordered an extra roll as one is never enough! Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication with my extra truffle lobster roll and after waiting 10 to 15 minutes, I had to inquire about it. The staff apologized for the error and due to the wait, gave me the extra truffle lobster roll on the house. With an additional spicy shrimp roll, our bill total was $57.60 including taxes and excluding tip. We had a promo $10 credit to use so our total came to $47.60 plus tip. *Pro tip: the Nitro matcha drink comes with unlimited refills and I managed to drink 3 glasses of it - yum! **The new Happy Hour here is now with the purchase of a 4 roll ($30), 5 roll ($34), or 6 roll ($39) combo, you get a free drink from a list to choose from that includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic options that typically range from $5 to $14 each.

First off, always bring a jacket here even if it's hot outside. The AC here is terribly cold. As regulars here for decades, sometimes with mild turbulent experiences, this specific visit highlighted a real decline in how the restaurant operates. We arrived close to sunset on a cool evening, yet the dining room was uncomfortably cold with air blowing directly on our backs. Staff can be seen to the side rubbing their upper arms trying to warm themselves. Patrons near us (tables really close) also expressed discontent with the chilly air and food. I asked a server if they could adjust the temperature twice. Finally, I got up and went to the counter and in broken English, the younger woman just shrugged and muttered that the AC was off, even though cold air was clearly still blowing--surely their HVAC system has a heater. After sitting there in a really cold dining room freezing and hearing other diners continue to complain, we decided to walk out without ordering. The cashier gave a completely scripted, insincere apology on our way out. It feels like they simply do not care about the dine-in experience or the tips customers leave anymore. I feel customers need to be more vocal and use their wallets as a method of approval. I also noticed a newly posted sign saying they now close between 3 and 4 pm for staff breaks, which seems to point to obvious staffing issues. There's way too many Sushi restaurants competing for business in the Highgate Metrotown area, this one has fallen off the rails. And I can't imagine how bad management is with these kinds of working conditions.
