Yan Peninsula is a large Chinese restaurant well known for both banquet style dinner and bustling dim sum. With the crowd, the noise decibel level is high. Decor is contemporary Chinese with high ceilings and large TV screens. Yan is very popular so expect their small parking lot to be full and difficulty finding street spaces, especially on weekends. Instead of dim sum carts, the table places orders on paper, marking the quantities of selected dim sum. Despite the capacity crowd, food came quickly. While every dim sum was delicious based on our 9-person table consumption that had almost no take-home boxes, the Chicken Feet was my favorite, with extra large claws and unique, delicious marinade sauce (I don't recall this with chicken feet elsewhere). Unlike most Chinese restaurants, the service staff were surprisingly cordial. While very busy, they still managed to be quick and smile. Waitresses were accommodating and helped us take group photos as we celebrated Dad's 94th birthday with three tables of 25 people. They also provided plates and forks and helped serve a sheet cake we brought. It's obvious there are many regular customers, and we were very pleased and will be back too.

If you're looking for authentic Cantonese dim sum on the Peninsula, Yan Peninsula in Millbrae is definitely worth a visit. We came here to celebrate my best friend's birthday and had an amazing experience. Weekend mornings are incredibly busy, so we arrived on Sunday just before noon and lucked out by getting the last available table. The restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan to arrive early. The service was excellent from start to finish. The menu is expansive, featuring a wide selection of traditional Southern Chinese (Cantonese) dim sum and classic banquet-style dishes. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. My favorites were the house special fried rice, which was packed with flavor, and the siu mai, which was perfectly prepared. Every dish we tried was outstanding. Parking in the restaurant's lot is somewhat limited, but don't let that discourage you--there's plenty of street parking just a block away. Yan Peninsula has become a popular destination for Cantonese cuisine, serving everything from dim sum to seafood and banquet meals in a spacious dining room that's perfect for families and celebrations. "Yan" commonly refers to a banquet or celebratory feast, making it a fitting name for a restaurant that specializes in gathering people around great food. The restaurant has earned a loyal following for its authentic flavors and welcoming atmosphere. Overall, I highly recommend Yan Peninsula for anyone craving authentic dim sum in the Bay Area. Come hungry, arrive early on weekends, and be prepared to enjoy a fantastic Cantonese dining experience! Cheers!

Sunday lunch is a jungle. The lot is completely full. Cars and illegally parked blocking the handicap spot. We were a party of 6. We stopped in for dim sum. I did notice the head lady yelling at one of the bus staff, very unprofessional. To order there's a picture menu at the table. You mark down how any of what you want and then they come by and pick up the menu. Food is then brought to the table. Actually surprised by the speed of service event hough there is a large volume of large tables (6+ tops). One of the tea cups at the table had a crack causing leakage. Overall the food was pretty good. The only thing that was a little off was the Giant Surf Clam pan fried rice noodles with yellow chives... the dish was lacking seasoning. Other then that all other dishes were good. Men's Room is near the front doors. 2 urinals, 1 stall, 2 sinks. Automatic towel dispenser not working. There is a hand blower. The room smells of urine and really needs to be cleaned. Floors and sinks are wet. ***Note there was a "Puer" charge of $1.83 per person... not sure but we had not children or servants ***Note they charge a 18% service charge on the net amount

The Cantonese style food is delicious and the portions are great. The interior is nicely decorated, love their elaborate ceiling decorations. They also have a very large screen at the front of the restaurant, soccer game on the night we went, not sure what they usually have onscreen. Service is very friendly and pleasant but it took awhile to order and for our food to come. Included appetizers: boiled peanuts and pickled veggies. Both are delicious, note if someone has a peanut allergy. Beef with Longan - my favorite, it had a sweet and sour sauce, the beef is very tender, and I loved the longan in the stir fry! Green beans with fermented olives - nicely done, the person who ordered it liked the flavor and tender texture. Seafood and tofu clay pot - the shrimp and scallops were amazing in this dish. It's a little bit spicy but the person who ordered it liked it. Singapore noodles - very nicely done. Everyone liked this dish. We also tried one order of a soup special (steamed with meat and mushrooms), delicious recommendation by our server. And the meal includes a bean dessert soup (tong sui) at the end. Lovely meal! Note that service charge is included.

It was hard to see Zen Peninsula decline over the years. Happy to see Yan Peninsula bring back the quality. They have all the classic dishes. Surprise standout was the sweet and sour pork. This NOT the Americanized stuff you get in middle-of-nowhere USA. This is the real deal. Perfectly fried. Not too much batter and not too sweet. I wish they wouldn't use the smelly industrial cleaner on the tables. That stuff is for floors and bathrooms, not surfaces near food. The smell detracts from the food. You should only use something odorless like quat sanitizer for tables. If you are celebrating a birthday, be forewarned...they play a sing-along happy birthday video that is slightly terrifying.

Nice waitresses, what!? Dressed in their yellow or red sweaters, the Chinese aunties putter around to ensure the customers are well-served. Not one of them yelled out across the room while we ate. They communicate like normal people. Food portions are generous for the price. The interior decors feels modern, especially the ceiling lights and decorative thingy's. Makes your meal feel comfortable. The children high chairs were not sticky or dirty! Not many Chinese restaurants can claim this status! The food itself was a solid 3.89. Options were great like the Zhongshan dim sum and squab. But, the rice rolls and anything that used rice flour were a little bit of a miss ...a bit on the thicker skin and chewy side. Come enjoy dim sum comfortable with plenty of free parking spaces! The funny part is at the entrance, you may see their shrine with an idol alongside a steamed dish or pork ribs!

Tbh, I came here for the Shin Chan dim sum lol. The shin chan custard bun is soo cute. It also tastes pretty good. I also really enjoyed the other set of dim sum I ordered. The lava bao buns were nice and creamy. You can never go wrong with har gow. The seafood dumplings were also pretty delicious. I'll definitely be back for more shin chan lol. Try it out if you like. :)

We normally go to Dim Sum King, but this place was recommended to us, so we decided to give it a try -- and it ended up being a pleasant surprise. The dining room is very spacious, and the ornate ceiling décor gives it a nicer vibe than you might expect. They also have a giant screen playing Chinese music videos, which adds a fun, lively touch without being too distracting. We came in for Saturday lunch and were seated right away (party of two). Service was quick and efficient. We ordered the usual basics -- siu mai and har gow -- and they were fine: pretty dense, nothing too standout. I actually ordered the wrong shrimp rice noodle roll by mistake, but it ended up being really good. The crispy shrimp fried noodle roll was the real standout -- super unique with that bright orange rice noodle wrapped around a crunchy layer and shrimp. Tons of flavor and definitely something we'd come back for. Parking, however, sucks. It's Millbrae, so it's always hit or miss, but this area is especially tight. Overall, a solid and affordable dim sum option on the Peninsula. We'd come back, especially for those noodle rolls.

First time here and pleasantly surprised! Dishes were flavorful and seemed fresh. Order the chowfun and chungfun options. Dimsum like har gow and siu mai are ok but would stick to other small dishes. Very Hong Kong style food served here. Bathrooms were clean too!

The restaurant was packed Friday at noon. This was my first visit here. The interior reminded me of Asia. Fancy chandeliers and numerous large tables with no sound dampening features. Most customers looked like they lived most of their life in Asia. I really expected to like the food. We had shui mai, shao loong bao, char shu bao, braised chicken feet, stuffed tofu skins, Chinese broccoli and chow mein. No dish stood out as a must have. Nothing was bad. Service was very typical of a Chinese restaurant. Here's your food-- no vinegar soy dipping sauce with green onions was offered for the shao loong bao. We should have parked on El Camino on the east side, before getting to the restaurant. Instead, we turned right and parked on the east side down Center Street.

Dropped in with 5 people for sunday night dinner. Not too crowded today and parking was easy. (They have a private lot). Sorry we didn't take pictures this time. Got too hungry. 1)Peking duck- deliciously crispy skin. Totally worth it. Came with fluffy buns, green onion, and housin sauce 2) dried scallop fried rice- was ok, but some green onions would have made it look less boring. It was a little bare- rice, dried scallop, egg white. 3) empress chicken- delicious and extra flavorful 4) seafood tofu claypot- definitely one of the more heavy/ flavorful dishes. It's not bad though! 5) sautee green beans with minced pork and olive leaves- mildly salty and pretty garlicky. It's alright. I think I expected a little more wok-hei 6) one of our friends visiting from far away asked if they had egg rolls. I didn't think they would since it's more of a dimsum lunch time, but they said ok and made an order for us! That's super nice. Complimentary red bean soup and sesame balls for dessert. Seating- large and spacious, tables aren't too close together. Other atmosphere info: you know this place is fire if there's an altar for Guan Yu with food tributes at the entrance of the restaurant

A year ago I would've given this place 4 stars but today it just missed the mark. The bolo bbq bun deserves 1 star because the bread stinks of fermentation and overdue dairy and management refused to acknowledge that the ingredients had gone bad and claimed no one else had complained about it. The siumai, chicken feet and even the overdone bean curd roll were decent. I do not recommend the beef rice noodle or the lobster noodles.

Authentic Chinese Food, but a Noisy Dining Experience…read more We waited over 40 minutes before being seated, which gives you an idea of just how popular The Kitchen in Millbrae has become! The restaurant was packed, with mostly Chinese diners, and the noise level was quite high. While the food has its merits, the crowded and noisy atmosphere made it difficult to relax and fully enjoy the dining experience. Pork Tripe and Chicken Soup (House Specialty) The chicken was tender and silky, and the dish had an authentic, traditional flavor. However, the pork tripe was a little dry. Perhaps I'm more accustomed to classic Cantonese favorites like honey-glazed BBQ pork and dim sum, so this dish felt a bit mild compared to what I usually enjoy. It's still a distinctive specialty worth trying, even if it wasn't my personal favorite. Pan-Fried Tofu with Teochew Preserved Vegetables This was one of my favorites! The combination of salty, tangy, savory, and aromatic flavors was well balanced, and the tofu had a very satisfying texture. Definitely a dish I'd order again. Sweet and Sour Pork with Pineapple A classic Cantonese favorite that was tangy, sweet, and appetizing. The dish is also known as gu lou yuk in Cantonese cuisine. Its origins are often associated with adaptations of traditional sweet-and-sour pork for Western tastes, making it a familiar staple in Chinese restaurants around the world. Overall: The Kitchen serves flavorful Chinese dishes with authentic touches, and I can see why it's so popular. However, good food isn't the only ingredient in an enjoyable meal. A comfortable atmosphere and a pleasant dining environment matter just as much. I'd give the food a solid four stars, but the long wait and noisy dining room took away from the overall experience. Next time, I'd seriously consider ordering takeout so I can enjoy the food in a more relaxing setting!

It was not easy to find near by parking ( caused we arrived later like 12 noon ) . We found street parking a few blocks away and walked to The Kitchen . The table and pig were ready as scheduled. We have ordered a few favorite dishes as mixed mushrooms stir fried chicken filet , Fish mew chicken soup , Fuji seafood fried rice with gravy . And I took two dim sum from the cart ( stewed chicken feet in Abalone sauce and steamed beef rice roll) . All the food was delicious. The suckling pig was tender enough like a baby pig , the skin was thin And crispy. It came with steamed bun and hoisin sauce and some vegetables to be eaten together . Six of us finished the whole pig and all the dishes . We only had some fried rice left to bring home for next meal . Great service and good food . The suckling pig has better quality than the majority of the Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area . You would need to order 3 days in advance . I would not recommend the " to go " option cause the crispy skin will not taste the same when you put aluminum foil cover on a roasted pig . Great birthday present for the family member!

Coming here on a Saturday after making dinner reservations on a late Saturday afternoon, I saw a number of familiar faces immediately. Half of their staff are from the Monterey Blvd. Won Kok Restaurant. This was my 1st time dining here in likely close to thirty years when it was another restaurant. Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. Steamed surf clams with garlic and vermicelli noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=lPyTuWkX4RoUtP-3fZ2UiA) - These were served in two halves on each plate (four plates for eight shells) for our party of eight. Tasty, flavorful, and fresh as their flagship location in San Francisco. 2. Soy sauce supreme seasoned prawns, 2.5 lbs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=wYtIFMiiYTuhOa_CmggLrQ) - I actually requested "West Lake" shrimp but was subbed out by this. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. Golden fried rice with a touch of egg white (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CZdyzi720mOckNXxHulS4g) - Another restaurant recommended dish, we were amazed at how tasty this was, given the simplicity of its description. Apologies for not having a full serving photo as the captain offered and agreed to him apportioning it in bowls for each diner. 9. Crispy skin roast chicken with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=TspHX9eknS496I3zXwVwlQ) - This is their innovative twist on the Cantonese favorite jia zhi chicken with a strong garlic flavor. The carving of the decorative chicken head (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=DaywI5br-WQb9hh0a5sgng) was impressive. 10. Green bean tapioca soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=12ljEfFOj8tqwIaBXHvTVw) - Complimentary, a nice ending. 11. Red bean paste pastries (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MwjmcyVoyHVXnmPRWYuM8w) - Complimentary and okay. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. Highly recommend making reservations especially weekends. More likely to dine at their flagship but will come for special occasions or with South Bay friends.

The breakdown of our dishes is below: Walnut Shrimp - Hot and plump shrimp that has a bounce in your mouth covered with tangy mayo. We enjoyed the light fry. Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice - Fragrant but oily and plenty of flavor. BBQ Pork & Egg Cheong Fun - Soft sheets of rice noodle roll with a generous amount of ingredients. Hargow - Very good with big shrimp and a sesame oil flavor. Shumai - Soft thin skin withmore seafood than pork taste. Chiu Chow dumpling & Beancurd roll were ok but had fresh ingredients. Chicken Feet - I liked the overall flavor but it didn't seep all the way in. Parking is challenging but the taste is well worth a visit!

Given how much closer their SF location is to me, it always felt a little unnecessary to head all of the way out here to get the exact same thing. However, after learning that the menu here actually has a lot more to offer, I had heard all I needed for my curiosity to be piqued! Compared to their original outpost, this Yuanbao Jiaozi is significantly larger in size, offering well over twice the amount of seating. Similarly, I got pretty excited when I saw just how much more the menu has to offer. In addition to the same assortment of appetizers, noodle dishes, and dumplings you'll find in SF, this one has several additional types of appetizers, dumplings, and noodle dishes, as well as a selection of dumplings in chili oil, potstickers, and several varieties of xiao long bao. What's more, they also have a Sea Urchin and Pork Dumpling, which is definitely something you don't see all that often! -- NAPA CABBAGE & PORK POTSTICKERS...$15.99 Sadly, not quite as good as I had hoped for, but still solid. While I liked the overall taste and how the skins had a nice thickness to them, I wish that some of them had a firmer bottom/crust. Plus, I didn't love seeing all of the excess left on the dish. -- PICKLED CHINESE CABBAGE BEEF NOODLE SOUP...$15.99 Plus points for being able to get this without cilantro, but, admittedly, this didn't look right without it. In any case, this tasted pretty solid, even if others we've had were better. The broth wasn't very bold, but the noodles had a nice bite and the beef was super tender. -- DAN DAN NOODLES...$12.99 Not as good as my newfound favorite, but this is up there. Similarly, the noodles in this had a nice chew and I liked how they didn't skimp on the meat. However, the sauce had a slightly nutty aftertaste that was distracting - either make it stronger or not have it at all. -- UNI & PORK DUMPLINGS...$7.99 Really interesting, to say the least. The filling had a bit of a briny sort of flavor to it that complemented the pork filling well. That said, it did feel a little gimmicky and certainly a little pricey for what you get. -- BRAISED SPARERIBS NOODLE SOUP...$15.99 This was kind of simple, but still pretty good! Although there weren't many pieces of it, I thought the spareribs were porky and tender, the broth was flavorful, and the noodles in this dish were just as good as the others. -- HOUSE SPECIAL BEEF NOODLE SOUP (SPICY)...$15.99 Of the two beef noodle soups, I liked this one slightly more. The slices and chunks of beef were just as tender and the noodles had the same bit of bite to them. As for the broth, it still could've used more body, but it wasn't overwhelmed by the pickled vegetables. -- PORK XIAO LONG BAO...$12.99 These were great! Although there wasn't as much soup inside each piece as I would've liked, the filling was still fairly porky. The skins, though, were fantastic - soft, tender, and on the thin side, but not so thin that they tore apart when liefted. Along with the food, the other thing I like about this Yuanbao Jiaozi is just how convenient it is. Parking is always a breeze, we've never had to wait for a table (for dinner, anyways), our order has always come out fairly quickly, and the workers have always been really friendly. Even though I haven't found the food to be quite as amazing as that first time I tried the Yuanbao Jiaozi on Irving in SF, our visits to this location have never disappointed. While I still need to check out some of the other noodle joints that have opened up recently in Burlingame, Millbrae, and San Mateo, that doesn't mean I won't be coming back here for more quick and tasty meals. Not when I now have another spot to get some tasty beef noodle soup, dan dan noodles, and dumplings! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

This is the perfect spot to grab solid Vietnamese-Chinese seafood right by SFO. Definitely come…read morehere with friends, order as much seafood as your heart desires, and prepare to get messy in the best way possible because everything absolutely slaps. The menu has so many great seafood options, especially if you're a crab lover. They offer a variety of different crab flavors, so there's a good chance you'll find one that fits your taste. The crab was flavorful, saucy, and so satisfying to dig into. They even give you bibs upon request, which honestly feels necessary if you're planning to go all in. The prawns were also a highlight. They were a decent size, cooked well, and perfectly seasoned. We also ordered the garlic noodles, which were great and exactly the kind of buttery, garlicky carb moment you want with seafood. The green beans were a nice addition too and helped balance out the meal with something fresh and veggie-forward. The only thing I'd probably skip next time would be the raw oysters which didn't taste as fresh. Their fried chicken was delicious though! Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly, which made the whole experience even better. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better casual seafood feast. It was so good that my husband and I actually came back two days later just to get the fried chicken and crab again. That pretty much says it all.

Ordered shrimp, crab, beef and they're all breaded and fried. They were good, but not the healthiest for sure. They all felt like the same flavor profile in a way. I would have just liked more variety, but I'm not sure if that exists. The one big thing to know is two ordered of garlic noodles is plenty of food! It's a great spot and parking was easy, but just remember that you'll be sooooo full after. I would come back, but maybe less would be more in this case.
