I came here on Chinese New Year to yumcha, and I had a solid experience! It was a lively without being overly chaotic. Apparently they reopened a couple of weeks ago, so they're reasonably not the most settled and organized. I came with my family at 11ish, and had to wait 20ish minutes for a table, which isn't bad. The wait grew as I ate, as I saw a lot of people waiting at the door when I was leaving. They have their own parking lot, but not enough to accommodate everyone for CNY. The spots in front are compact, the ones in the back are bigger. My first impression of this restaurant was quite positive. Everything inside was new and clean. The ceiling decor and chandeliers made this place very inviting. The tables were a little tight, but that's understandable because it was CNY. Now for the food... I was pretty satisfied with everything. The tea and the food were piping hot, just the way I like it. And this goes to show that even on such a busy day, they didn't rush, they truly care about the quality of their food. One thing I missed out on was the baked mochi bun, which never came. Disappointing dim sum experience - this is for the food only. Bathrooms were quite dirty... Even for Asian restaurant standards. Egg yolk lava bao was oily and runny, not the soft custard experienced at most other dim sum or bakeries. 1/5 Scallion pancake was overly doughy without the crispy crust of most other places; appears to have been deep fried, instead of pan fried. 1/5 Sauteed pork intestines - overly fatty and fried rather than properly sauteed. 0/5 only ate 1 piece then stopped; it was that bad. The beef chow fun was about the only decent dish that was average 3/5. Xiao long bao tasted like grocery store quality. String beans with pork were ok. Such as putting your order in can take a bit longer as they have one computer operating the whole restaurant. When I say a bit longer, I mean pushing 20+ minutes until I got our menu back and then another 20+ for food to come out. We were in no rush but I know customers who's patience level simmered after the pandemic were complaining. As for food, their menu isn't filled with photos so you just gotta use your inaction and past experience to determine what items you wanna order. The food is good - no complaints there and I'm sure later on, they'll have more items to extend their menu. I will say it looks like their parking lot spots gotten even smaller since zen peninsula so I suggest parking on the street as you never know who will park next to you then ding your car or rear view. Their interior has changed up a bit as well with the whole ceiling decor resembling gold and white jelly beans. They also have some very shiny Crystal chandeliers. Not ready for prime time. Half the dimsum on their shortlist menu isn't available. Took over 25 mins for some dishes to come out. Took another 45 mins to get a check. The check came out to be loaded with items we did not order. Their system is broken or the staff is untrained to removed stuff from the check. Food is average; *Steamed shumai was overdone. The skin was peeling and soggy. Sloppy and most were sideways when served. *Crispy charsiu bao was good, but not warm enough. *Do not order the onion pancake, you can buy frozen ones at the supermarket and would taste better. *Roast duck was good *Steamed spareribs was OK. *Steamed beef balls were big portioned. 18% service charge automatically added on for waiting on their mistake. ‍You may recognize few staff from HKFL. This place has some unique items other dim sum restaurants do not offer. For example, they serve lava cake which was light fluffy and not overly sweet. They also serve eel fried rice with pine nuts. Just re-opened with the grand opening banners still up. Got there early and there wasn't anyone there yet so got to choose the pick of the table. Lucky! Plus it's been storming here in the Bay so that could be the reason. The renovation just WOW. They have a big screen with asian karaoke the whole time. Even my 3 year old little nephew was amazed and said so pretty. The dim sum came out hot and delicious. My cousin was in town from Hong Kong and he said its not bad. And if you know the quality of dim sum in Hong Kong, you know that this is a very high praise. Got the usual siu mai and Phoenix claw with the shrimp rice roll and XLB. The presentation for the XLB was so cute, they came in there own little steamer but i would not order it again. The skin was broken on 3/5 of them so no soup in the dumpling. Dim Sum lunch at the newly opened and renovated Yan Peninsula in Millbrae. The food was excellent. I can take or leave the don tats normally as I don't usually care for the crust, but we had the Portuguese tarts and the crust was light and flaky, and the custard was smooth and moist. The tangerine beef balls were tasty and flavorful, the chicken feet (I love this dish) were tender as was the beef brisket. The dessert was so cute! Molded in the shape of corn on the cob was the mango pudding. All yummy! Service was great, staff friendly! read more

We're upset by the service on 1/15/24. We were a party of three and noticed plenty of two or four parties (seemingly who know the manager or staff) were slipped tables ahead of our numbers. We were paying attention to the jumping numbers. Some injustice can be tolerated, but too much is outrageous. We waited 50 minutes when we could've gotten a table in 25 from the looks of it. Two others standing next to my party complained about their long wait for the same reason. Please do better next time . read more

Yan Peninsula... It was the grand opening. Despite this, service was pretty efficient as they were working through the crowds of people there for food and preparing for their grand opening event. Flowers, fruit, and a big pig arrived as we were eating. About a third of the restaurant was reserved for their VIP's to arrive later. The menus are only in Chinese, but my iPhone Translate app did a good job with the photos of the menu. (photo of app at the end) The food was good. I'd say they did really good work with anything shrimp. The other dishes were pretty good as well. The last dish which was a deep fried shrimp roll encased in a colored rice noodle and served with mayonaise was different and tasty. $105 for two, but we ordered enough to take home for an additional meal. WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. We were there on weekday Monday, there wasn't that many people there. We ordered just 5 plate of dim sum. First, they separate the dim sum receipt into 2 and then even though I circle them on the dim sum paper. Second, 3 dim sum arrived, one was wrong, DID NOT APOLOGIZE and I was the one who point out is wrong. Third, they missed the 2 dim sum and I know this is going to happen because they separate the receipts. Fourth, they kept you waiting for the receipt even though they wasn't that many people who are dining. They just want more people to sit there, so that it feels like there are a lot of people dining. Lastly, there are fucking service charge which I don't think they deserve ANY. THEY DID NOT APOLOGIZE NOR SAY THANK YOU. ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE DUMP. NO MORE OF THIS. They are open early for Sunday lunch. The place has a big dining area. TV is unnecessarily on. I love the warm welcome I got from the reception lady. She was excited about taking my tea order. The pictured menu is great. As a lone diner, the House Special Combos of Buns and Dumplings let me sample a few dishes. HS Buns Combo: - Salted Egg Yolk - my favorite - Creamy Custard - 2nd favorite - Sesame Bun - I was excited for this black sesame bun but it was too sweet. - Coconut Bun - didn't taste like coconut HS Dumplings Combo: - Chiu Chou - this was only the second time I've had this dumpling. i like it here better. The wrapper wasn't too sticky. - Corn Shrimp Dumpling - this was good. You can definitely taste the corn. - 3 other Shrimp dumplings - It all tasted the same. I would have gladly traded 2 shrimp dumpling for a steamed shanghai dumpling. Coconut rice cake - it didn't taste quite like coconut but I liked it nonetheless. I got suckered into coming here because of all the good reviews on Yelp. This is literally THE SLOWEST service I have ever experienced at dim sum. And trust me, my standards are not high as I know most Chinese restaurants don't offer great service. From the moment we sat down, we had to wait forever to flag down a server for water/tea. The dishes came out one or two at a time, but it took over 2 hours to get everything. We even canceled a few of the dishes at the end because we didn't want to wait any longer. After paying, I also realized we were charged for 2 orders of siu mai we never got. What I didn't understand is it wasn't even that busy inside the restaurant when we went. There were lots of open tables, but just not enough staff. It's a shame I won't be coming back because the food was actually decent. read more

Arrived at 10 am. Front counter manager must have had a bad night because his face was extremely sour and disgruntled. I don't enjoy establishments that feel like they are doing me a favor when I'm the paying client. He decided to seat me next to the cash register and front door on this cold and rainy day. And to make matters worse the smell of their incense was so strong it was actually made me feel nauseous. Food- the quality of the BBQ bun and har gow has gone down. The BBQ bun lacked flavor and substance. The har gow was small and nothing special. Overall I was disappointed with the food quality. The waitresses were as helpful as they could be and pushed the carts out in a timely manner. The tip was already included and one thing that was reasonable was the %. Some places hit you with 18% mandatory tip. This place only adds 15%. Won't be going back because truly there are many other viable and better options in Burlingame. We came to this restaurant for dinner last night to celebrate 2 birthdays. It was nice that we were seated immediately. The bad part was Most of the dishes were extremely salty to the point that we had to order some rice to make it edible. Also, The tables were set too close to each other where it made me feel so uncomfortable having my back leaning against the other people's backs. I think all dim sum places in the bay area are either not good or average, but I think this place is actually pretty good. I would come back here for dimsum again. Shrimp Siu Mai (4/5): This is a good dish but it just tasted like a shrimp har gao but in siu mai wrap Baked bbq pork bun (5/5): this was delicious, juicy pork and crispy bun on the outside and soft on the inside Preserved duck egg and shredded pork porridge (2/5): ive never had this type of porridge where they add enough duck eggs. The picked mustards and green onions made the porridge a lot more flavorful, but without that its pretty bland Shrimp noodle rolls (4/5): ive had worse noodle rolls where the noodles were just too thick. Was seated in front of the large tv, was a bit distracting and glaring as I seated with my back toward it. Ordered around 10 items, thought most of the items were a bit average and did not have much special items that I usually order from other restaurants. Favorite: fried calamari tentacles. Disappointments: Steamed Beef noodle: not skin was not soft and chewy. Xiao long bao: not much soup inside, top was hard ( not sure if this was not fresh and reheated) Steamed Crab lotus root leaf rice: not much flavor and very dry. After the meal, I think it just lingered in our stomach and was not a good feeling. We originally called in to make a reservation the day before for a birthday dinner. When we went into the restaurant, they told us we were at the wrong place. No problem, our group noticed there were a lot of open tables so we just waited for a seat, and left a cake with the waiters. All of the waiters were just standing near the entrance for almost half an hour without any service. When a guy in a tux finally decided to speak to us, he was very rude. He had the attitude of a pouting child and kept telling us they ran out of items we were requesting. They only had one fish left for seafood and everything else was sold out, which is fine, but instead of offering us alternatives he would only tell us no more, while leaning backwards into a pillar and looking annoyed that we were looking through the menu for food to order. Fried rice, chicken, pork, veggies, tofu were okay, but the fish and ribs were obviously not fresh, burnt, and may have been re-cooked. We decided to leave early and skip the dessert, and asked for the bill. There is a 18% service charge. I will not be returning. read more

The food, however, tasted pretty good so I decided to give their dim sum a try. I came around 10:30am on a Saturday morning. We got seated quickly as there were plenty of empty tables available. The menu looked pretty good, with a wide selection of your usual goodies. Most of the items had a photo to accompany them so that was awesome. Here comes the 2 stars... The food we ordered was mediocre. Everything tasted really bland and I usually eat pretty bland (I'm a sauce-less foods kind of gal). A few of the items that we ordered and will be passing if I ever come back again: - Chicken feet: The color and presentation was there, but the flavor was really lacking. It didn't have enough spice or sweetness or saltiness. It was just flat. - Seafood shrimp dumpling: the picture on the menu showed 4 pieces. It arrived with 3. We asked the waiter and she said, oh yeah the chef changed and walked away. Okayyyyy. I'm not sure that's a reason. So misleading! The filling sits on top of the skin as if it was placed on top after steaming. Stick to the regular shrimp dumpling! - Swan durian pastry: it didn't come out looking like a swan as advertised, but just as a puff pastry. I was actually really disappointed I didn't get the swan. The filling was too sweet and tasted very artificial. - Salted egg yolk lava bun: the bread was tough as if it was re-steamed. The filling wasn't balanced...way heavy on the salted egg yolk. - Hong Kong style fried dough noodle rolls: tried a piece right when it came out and expected a crunch, but it was chewy instead. Towards the end of our meal, the table next to us found something in their food. I couldn't hear what it was, but they sent the dish back. It must have been pretty outrageous because they kept the plate for 2 other managers to look at. I don't even know what to think of that. Things to note: they charge a 15% service charge. I think it's total BS considering the lack of service provided. They charge $1.95 for tea (but all dim sum places do the same). Ordered their $199 dinner specials + whole soy sauce chicken and eel fried rice. We had the bean sprouts stir fried large sea clams, black pepper pork neck meat with green beans, oysters with ginger scallions, sweet honey pork ribs, cashew nuts with mix mushrooms and crab with clear noodles from the $199 menu. Sadly reported way over priced! Each dish came out super small serving, hardly can locate sea claims or pork neck meat! Only 6 pieces of fried oysters with ginger and scallions in a large clay pot! The only decent dish was the cashew nuts with mix mushrooms. Frozen eel fried rice tasted terrible and mushy rice! Btw, service was not good at all. Properly we did not ordered their King crab . Yan Peninsula has taken over the restaurant space previously occupied by Zen Peninsula, and with the transformation comes a marked improvement in the quality of the dim sum! The staples are all here, but the creative plates deserve special attention. The House Special Buns Combo came with four creatively decorated buns including a Custard Bun stamped with the image of a cartoon character; a jet black Salted Egg Yolk Lava Bun; a Sesame Bun with black and white swirls: and a Mashed Coconut Bun in the shape of a chick. The House Special Dumplings Combo came with a traditional Shrimp Dumpling; an open-top Seafood Shrimp Dumpling; a Chiu Chou Dumpling with ground meat, radishes, and peanuts; a Corn Shrimp dumpling shaped into a goldfish; and a House Special Shrimp Shiu Mai, made with filling of minced shrimp and topped with a whole shrimp! My favorite Jook canes with green onions and chopped picked veggies. Large bowl and very satisfying. We got the donut rice roll to go with it but it was not needed since we got so much other things. Got the pork spare ribs and har gow and beef rice rolls, all solid. Tried the shrimp with corn, just ok. Had the choy sum with garlic since we needed a veg. The Xiao lum bao was so juicy! After almost an hour, the hostess called our number and was walking us to the table when the owner pointed at us and gave the table to another party if her friends and we waited another 20 minutes for an open table. Visit there for lunch during weekend, not crowded for seating area. Services is bad , no one pay attention to you at all, and the waitress guide us to seat next to the side door exist. Later on during the time we ate, they opens the door widely and let the wind and dust blows out to our table . I talked them to close the door and they ignored me. We ordered tangerine flavored beef rice noodle roll, deep fried taro puffs, steamed tofu skins w/ oyster sauce, spareribs w/ black bean, sticky rice in lotus leaf, and daikon cake. My favorites were the noodle roll, and tofu skins. The other dishes were mediocre, not bad but not tasty - didn't have much flavor. The spareribs (my brother's favorite) didn't have any black bean flavor; they had some taro pieces that were interesting. I live in the east bay so I compare it to Saigon Seafood Harbor in Richmond. That has excellent dim sum (especially since I don't have to drive to Chinatown). read more

This place has good Chinese food. Replaced zen peninsula and I think it was a good choice. The food here is reasonable price and tastes better than before as it's under new ownership. Great place for banquets for events as large dining room. The service could be better when we asked for glass of water. They said they had no more cups??? Not sure how's that's possible as we just needed a wine glass or water glass for water. The chow Mein was good. They also have animal shape desserts for the lunar new year.
