I reccomend this place to everyone who isn't vegetarian (I mean veg' can eat here but I don't want them to think they should convert to eating the formerly mooing by smelling all the delicious savory smells). The food is all excellent, they have meat by the pound, sides regular and large, and various carbs (e.g., house made biscuits, tortillas, cornbread) to sop up all the meats and sides. The cocktails are fun, you pick a house made mixer and your spirit of choice, so I can go tequila all day or whiskey all day, depending on the weather or my mood. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, but make sure to get the massive attack salad! I'm surprised none of the other reviews I skimmed mentioned the theme rubbing them the wrong way. With pictures of forklifts and hammers on the menu, the name of the place, and the other language they use in their marketing, there's clearly this "Working Class" theme going that...doesn't quite seem to mesh with a $10 Tart Pomegranate Cucumber Martini, n'est ce pas? Not so much blue collar as cerulean collar. So a star off for that and I was going to take one off for how cramped and crowded it is but let's call those half a star off for each. Neither is the end of the world but neither is great. The food is very good. The drinks are good (though the ambiance went down a notch when I saw my aforementioned fancy cocktail being poured out of a plastic pitcher rather than individually shaken for me). Denver is certainly a city that does not lack options or ethnicities. At this point in my travels, tapas and "pork belly this and that" doesn't get me as excited as a few years back when the gastro pub was new and fun. However, Work & Class has found a way to get me all riled up again. Small meat and side dishes construct a meal that keeps your bill comfortable. However...be careful!! This is definitely one of my "go-to" spots in Denver, whenever I feel like having an awesome, unpretentious meal and great cocktails. From the lamb to the pork to the housemade corn tortillas, all of the food is top-notch using great quality ingredients. The food is cooked with lots of soul and passion, which comes from Chef "Loca". The bread pudding and boozy egg-nog is amazing; my mouth is watering thinking about it currently. Try to snag a seat at the bar surrouding the chefs at work. They give you an amuse bouche and you get to see everyone hard at work! Although they don't take reservations, the wait-time is not typically too bad. Plus, it is definitely worth the wait for the delicious food and cocktails with a kick. Well, I guess I'm an outlier with my review. I just wasn't impressed. Tried 3 meats-lamb, goat and brisket. Lamb was pretty good, goat had no flavor and brisket was greasy. Had fried plantains and cilantro lime rice as sides. Both were good, but plantains were spicy which was weird. I've had much better Mexican style food at local taco shops in fl. Was in town visiting friends and we always try a new spot in Denver's bustling food scene. My friend had heard RAVE reviews of this place, and we decided to try it out. We had a bit of a wait, about 45 mins, but not too bad. They took our number and directed us to have a drink at a bar across the way that was offering a discount, and that suited us just fine. Unfortunately, W&C did not live up to the hype. Nothing was bad, it just wasn't that "blow you away" exciting. I wished we had gone to Root Down instead, which never seems to disappoint with creative flavors and options. The cocktails -- I tried a spicy one with tequila, forgetting the name, it was just okay and a bit watery. Nothing to write home about. We tried a bunch of items -- the mac and cheese was rather boring... the peppers 5 ways were interesting, but the gluten free bread was pretty blah... the massive attack salad with the tempura was nice but nothing all that exciting. The only thing that wowed us was the chickpea croquettes. They were pretty incredible!! So tasty and creamy and wonderful! My only complaint was that the pieces were pretty big and had a tendency to break and get a bit stuck while you dipped it in the chutney. Maybe something to work on? Perhaps the thing to get here is meat, but other than the croquettes, it unfortunately did not wow us at all. Oh, and the service was SLOW. The wait staff were quick to get us set up, explain the menu, and take our drink order but then disappeared for some time and didn't seem to get back to us very often. It's a chaotic, busy place, but it's something they need to get under control. With so many wonderful places in Denver, I'd skip it for now. The Good- This area of town didn't even look like this a few years ago, crazy! We were seated and ordered an old-fashioned and a ginger orange clove cocktail. They were both delicious! We split 1/4lb brisket, whole trout, jalapeno cornbread, mac and cheese, potato salad and tomato/ricotta salad. It was more than enough food for the two of us to finish! We sat on the outside patio bar stools which gave us a great view of the city during the sunset. It was awesome. Prices were reasonable for the portion sizes although I wish the cocktails were a little less. The Bad- I wasn't impressed with the fish or the mac and cheese. Great beer menu-- go at happy hour and you can get some great pint options for $3 along with several appetizer-y foods for $3-5. I really like the tinga taco though it was tiny, and the house biscuit/goat/pulled pork was phenomenal. Very tasty, tender, and affordable! You're looking at around $5-7 for a quarter pound of meat (the same you would pay at a cheap BBQ spot). Also, the $3 portion of butterscotch pudding is a great deal-- as you get enough to satisfy your curiosity and your sweet tooth while not getting a calorie bomb for $7-10. Overall, the place is trendy but not pretentious at all, the food is good, drinks are great, service is friendly and fast, and the prices are very affordable for the quality. I loved this place. It's a little tight inside and you may wait for a table but it's worth it. It's a family style place so be ready to share with your party. The meats are portioned by weight (or # of fish if you get the trout). We had a half-lb of lamb, 1 trout, and the fried chicken with a couple of sides and this was adequate for 3 people. The food was all great, especially the fried chicken which was some of the best I've ever had. The service was spot on and the vibe of the place is quite enjoyable. After a great review in 5280 magazine, I HAD to come try it out! Hubs and I came in on a Friday for happy hour. The small, intimate space was packed by 5pm. We waited for 20 minutes at the bar and enjoyed a tasty cocktails. We were seated at the bar top facing the kitchen- fun, unique spot to sit. We watched the chefs as they prepared the food, even stopping to chat with us and offer us a few samples. Everything we ordered was delish- down to the jalepeno cornbread. A vegetarian in a southern comfort style restaurant never knows if they'll leave hungry... but Work & Class stuffed me full of a tasty kale salad, brussell sprouts, mac and cheese, and cornbread. Great flavors, great plating, and fun atmosphere that buzzed with hipness (that's a word- right?). Tip for new visitors- they have a small parking lot. Oh man, every single thing was delicious! Went in a group of four and sampled roughly half the menu! Here's the breakdown; -Blue Corn Empanadas - The individual empanadas are larger than I expected, but there are only 2 in an order which I thought was a little silly. However they were delicious - the tomato sauce has a nice kick to it as well. -Cochinita Pibil (Pork) - This stuff packs a TON of flavor! Even without the sort of slaw that comes with it, the flavor was full and enough all on it's own. But adding the slaw doesn't deter from that at all, it's a perfect compliment to the meat. -Roasted Goat - Hands down the table favorite. I had never had goat done like this before and everyone was very pleased and pleasantly surprised. (We did order the tortillas to wrap this stuff up in, but honestly everything was so delicious I didn't use any tortillas!) I have no idea what the sauce on the side was, but it seemed completely unnecessary. I couldn't tell any difference when I included the sauce from the goat by itself. -Lamb - In general lamb is not my favorite thing, but I really WANT to love it so I keep trying it! It came out perfectly seared in nicely sliced bite-size portions. The slight char added a wonderful flavor - but overall I wasn't all that impressed. However my friends who are much bigger fans of lamb to begin with thought it was delicious. -Wild Mushroom Risotto - Not a mushroom fan, but still wanted to try everything we ordered. I was pleased with the texture - so many places overdo risotto and it ends up a gelatinous blob on your plate. Not the case here! I probably would not order this again, just because it's mushroom, but if they offered another risotto I'd be all over it. -Wisconsin Mac & Cheese - Totally worth it! The small order (single skillet) is a good tasting portion for two, so it's a good thing we ordered large! The creamy cheese sauce had an incredible flavor without being overly thick, like some cheesy pastas can be. -Fried Sweet Plantains- YES! I've been waiting to find well done plantains in CO for YEARS. These are a little unusual in the fact that they're rolled in some kind of chili powder (ancho maybe?). Sad to say I am a baby about spicy food, but this was just the right amount of kick- especially with the aioli that comes with. I would come back here for the plantains alone! -Green Chile Cheddar Biscuit - Not your average biscuit, that's for sure. It's not the light and fluffy thing we're all so familiar with, but I think that made it all the more appetizing. Slightly crunchy outside, but still soft and warm inside. Next time I will probably do without it just because it didn't necessarily enhance the dining experience in any way- but they are yummy. -Butterscotch Pudding - Surprising flavor from something you don't expect to be surprised by. The pudding has almost a tartness to it that non of us were expecting... some were more pleased than others. I guess I prefer the traditional, sweeter style. But a few at the table really loved it and cleaned the jars! The cocktails seem intriguing and exciting, but we only tried a few. The Tart Pomegranate-Cucumber whiskey was something I was wary to try, but glad I did. Very light and refreshing, but not something I could drink more than one of in a sitting. The Old Fashioned was a little funny.... someone really took out their anger on the cherry in my glass! Also (and I feel snobby even saying it, but I think it needs to be pointed out) the Old Fashioned came with chipped ice cubes..... so I couldn't take a sip without getting a chunk of ice that I had to chew on. Not only do I not want to be chewing on ice, I feel like it really watered down the drink after a few minutes (this may, in part, be due to the fact that we were sitting under a GIANT heater and those ice cubes never stood a chance). Probably wont be ordering that again, which is unfortunate. The food was all fantastic - not a single bit went uneaten! The service was also wonderful, our server was very friendly and personable, gave recommendations that were well received, and we never sat without a drink or water refills the entire time. And it was really impressive how quickly the food came out when they were so busy. This is a new favorite and I cannot wait to go back and try the other half of the menu! read more

Absolutely amazing! Where have you been all my life? This place is right up here with Root Down in Denver, which known to be one of the best "natural/organic, locally sourced, hormone and GMO free" type of restaurants. I only wish there was something like this in southeast Michigan were I live. I'm lucky to have found it thanks to recommendations from family an friends. I ordered EVERYTHING I could for two people. Unfortunately we had to do carry-out but it did not disappoint both in service and food. My husband got the lamb burger which was finger licking good with sweet potato hash which was probably THE best I've ever had. So good I almost forgot what I ordered. Lol read more

We read the reviews and decided the masses could not be wrong and we were right! The empanadas were impeccable. I nearly did not order the dirty rice with sausage and peppers and how ticked I would have been had I not! Was like nothing I've ever had before. Just packed with flavor. The buffalo rotisserie chicken was good enough but the short ribs my wife got were wonderful. Had a great experience with the food and our server was very kind and personable. The whole menu is practically gluten free which is nice for people with allergies. Our server went the extra mile for my wife who has to eat gluten free and even brought us out a gluten free dessert on the house. I would say a must do while in Denver. read more

I'm a chef as well so I am always excited when I get to watch the magic in action. It would have been nice to observe the kitchen staff wearing gloves while preparing food. While sitting there I was offered a taste of the chickpea croquettes. They were amazing. I was kinda mad that I was now too full to order them! I wasn't Impressed by the fish. As a southern girl from NOLA, I expect my fried seafood to be seasoned and this was pretty bland. The Mac-n-Cheese was ok, the brownie was a bit dry. But the meatballs over polenta made me want more! Oh my goodness, this place is incredible! We recently moved to Denver, and have been gathering a list of suggested restaurants to eat at. We chose Work & Class as our first date night (yay for babysitters!) spot and we are SO glad we did. We were seated right away, but keep in mind seating is community style, so if you are cool with that which we were, you won't mind it. We decided to share a little bit of everything: brisket, lamb, mac n cheese, Brussel sprouts & squash, cornbread, and a bottle of red wine. Everything was delicious and we ate every last bite. The menu says that almost everything is gluten free. And it probably starts out that way. However, way over on the lower right side of the menu is the disclaimer that they only have room for one fryer. And our waitress was very proud to say that they only really have a few items that contain gluten that they put in their fryer. If you are sensitive to this allergy you know how easily food can be cross contaminated. The ease with which she shrugged off my concerns about contamination simply caused my concerns to increase. How could I trust the rest of the GF labels if they didn't understand this issue? A suggestion would be to remove the GF notation from any fried items. Easy.
