The much beloved grandma pizza
Uriel H.

It's 1 AM on a Friday night and this place gives me life. The slice was perfectly crisp on the edges, chewy in the middle, and just greasy enough to feel right. The sauce had that perfect tang, the cheese pulled like it should, and the crust actually had flavor. My only mistake was not getting two slices. Late-night perfection.

Absolutely love this place. Never thought I'd find somewhere local to replace Andy's but honestly, this is even better. I've shown this place to over 6 other New Yorkers as well and they all agree they've had worse pizza in NY and all liked it a good deal. This is the real deal if you want an NY slice. Also, they make my favorite veggie slice I've ever had anywhere. They add hot peppers to it which is a nice touch. I've also had the vegan supreme a couple times and that's also bomb. This is also a great location to sit outside of on a nice day. Especially being in the little plaza with trees and the fountain going. The inside is more like a standard NY pizza shop though. When getting slices you're served pretty fast too, usually get your slices within 30 seconds of finishing paying. Garlic knots also worth it (they're huge though so don't be fooled by getting "only" 3). Been here a bunch already and will be back a bunch more!

I've been a frequent patron of this location in the past year without any issue. However, today was a different story. I ordered the pepperoni and IL Capo slice to go. I ate the pepperoni slice with no issue, but when I go to the IL capo slice, as I'm literally taking a bite, I notice a spider on the pizza. I assume it must have gotten inside the box so I used my napkins to pick it off. To my surprise, it was dead and cooked into the pizza. I'm not sure how a spider makes it all the way into your oven, cooked, and then presented to a paying PREGNANT patron. I've called and left a voicemail, no response.

Visiting from Canada, cute spot, patio is full inside seating is empty. Staff were really nice and helpful when asked questions. The pizza selection is good they had quite a few options. The pizza tastes really gooddd the thing crust was super good ! Slices are a good size

Location: great! Situated by an ice rink in Navy Yard. Shares its location with a gelato shop. Inside has few sets in the front, and additional seating in the back Service was quick and painless. The workers were friendly. We came on a Thursday night. We were looking for the vegan options, but they only had a couple old-looking slices left of one of the options. So it might be best to come earlier, or call-ahead to verify before choosing an alternate location. We tried a few different slices. Backyard 9/10, Buffalo Chicken 9/10, Mushroom Truffle 7.5/10. And the Spicy Roni was a 3/10. The crust was sooooo hard. On top of that, the Spicy Roni is a smaller slice, but still the same $5 price as the larger slices. It was sooo hard to bite into. I get it was reheated, but there's no way the dough was meant to be that crispy. Or was it? I actually cut my gums on it (wish i was joking). Overall, as a NY'er, i would definitely come back and recommend as they have lots of options.

It has been a while since I last had Wiseguy, and recently, for a get-together, we ordered a good variety: +Margherita - prepared with tomato sauce, fresh mozz, fresh basil, parmigiano, and EVOO +Backyard - prepared with tomato sauce, green peppers, red onions, mushrooms, kalamata olives, chili peppers, and mozzaarella +Supreme - prepared with tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, red onions, and mozzarella +Il Capo - prepared with tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, and mozzarella +a Mediterranean salad - with cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, green peppers, red onions, and lettuce +House Caesar and House Balsamic dressings +Chocolate Cookies - that are freshly baked on a daily basis I was a fan of the Backyard, as this was a spicy version of a vegetarian - I did like the fact that the crust was thinner and the toppings were generous. The sizes of the pies were really large, so each slice could technically amount to 2 slices. Salads were really fresh, and I really liked the thick and creamy House Caesar dressing. The chocolate cookies were soft and the chips were still nice and gooey! +Backyard pizza +Mediterranean salad +House Caesar +generous portions

Chicken parm pizza

They never miss here . Great specials. Friendly service . Even better food........... excellent location . Nice outdoor seating . Ice skate in winter and water fountains for kids in the summer

I built my own pizza with pepperoni, sausage & basil. The pizza was good and the sausage had the perfect amount of spice and heat but the slices are too big and floppy for my desired perfect pizza.

The best pizza I've had in the Capitol Riverfront area. It's dangerously close to where I live, which makes it difficult to resist.

Food was amazing and so fresh. Ordered Bronzino, Lamb Chops, spring mix salad with green goodness…read moredressing, potatoes, Ragu Pasta and sautéed kale. Ohhh the drinks! Fresh fruit is used for all the drinks and we got the Kiwi martinis and Dusse cocktail and both Everything was very authentically Italian recipes! Price was high for the portion size but we ordered enough to get full and so worth it because the ingredients were fresh! Server was great too, had great recommendations and very attentive. Excited to go back.

This is such a cozy neighborhood spot in the Navy Yard area, which seems to be increasing in chain…read morerestaurants by the minute! Thank goodness for Ama for adding back some character to the area with its North Italian charm! My friend and I ordered the rabbit stew, which was delicate and tender. It was served with a thick slice of sourdough bread which we used to sop up the tasty tomato and fennel based stew. I don't see rabbit much on menus these days, and this was a unique dish that pleased the palate! We also ordered artichoke and lemon for appetizer, and an al dente spinach and cheese ravioli, which was recommended by our server. For dessert we shared a caramel pie a la mode, which was a little overly sweet. Everything was nicely done, but in small portions. My only complaint was that my friend and I were still hungry after two main dishes and an appetizer! I like how light the dishes are, but they could use a little more heft portion-wise (and this is coming from someone who doesn't eat huge meals usually - so that might be saying something). Or perhaps add on an extra dish and get more than you think. Ama seems to have good happy hour deals and they also have a cafe/coffee side of the restaurant that opens at 8 a.m. At a quick glance of the menu, you'll get a sense of the restaurant's whole ethos. They stand for many idealistic values, including a menu that was approved by integrated nutritionists. Hopefully these values are sustainable to maintain! Everything is organic, with no seed oils or refined sugars - not even in the dessert! Even their cookware is plastic-free and PFAS-free. They also go into a few paragraphs about their state of the art water filtration system on site for all cooking/drinking. Beyond the health of the food/drink for customers, they extend this healthy mindfulness to their employees, offering full health insurance benefits to all their employees (with a ~3.85% health wellness charge to customers). Even with the extra charge, our overall bill wasn't too high for two people. Hopefully Ama continues to adhere to all their promises and values. Would love to come back to support again. Restaurant margins can be super slim these days, so I'm glad they don't cut corners.

The hospitality and service is top tier. When celebrating a birthday they greet you from the host stand with a happy birthday! We started with the Roasted Garlic Caesar and the Garlic Bread Quattro Formaggi both super tasty and flavorful. For dinner went with the Spicy Neapolitan Ragu, my personal fav, which is hearty and full of flavor and the Caruso's Alfredo that's creamy with wild mushrooms and truffle butter. My picky 19yr old left with her heart and stomach full and impressed with Caruso's! It was my pleasure to introduce her and happy to add another fan gal!

They also used bucatini noodles and I feel like not many restaurants do that and I just love how it absorbs all the sauce. Bread was delicious as always, but the cheese was just okay. Honestly I feel like the bread tasted better with the ragu sauce. Potatoes were exactly what you would expect - herby and slightly cheesy. Vibes in there are perfect - like an old style Italian homey restaurant. Service took a little while but they were also busy.

The waitress I had was so sweet and their guest service coordinator constantly checked in with a warm attitude. I got the focaccia and was between the girasoli and spaghetti pomodoro. I am so glad I went with my waitresses recommendation and got the girasoli! It was unlike any pasta I've ever had. Similar to a ravioli, but has a veggie puree opposed to cheese on the inside. The leek and lettuce within the lemon butter sauce was to die for, and the girasoli itself was pleasant and unforgettable. The focaccia was also SO FLUFFY. The outer crust was not too crunchy and just right. The inside is so glamorous but also feels Italian. Very clean, nice and spread out, and overall a fabulous vibe. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to while I lived in DC, because to be honest, I never got in an Italian mood. Now that I no longer reside in the DC area, I use every visit to eat my faves and occasionally a new spot. So, after another popular (and cheaper) Italian place closed before I could finish my delivery order, I spotted L'Ardente. I ordered the famous Lasagna - their 40-layer specialty - with short rib sugo, truffle mornay, and Sottocenere Cheese. The truffle mornay added a smooth, melty, creamy cheese sauce. It is good, but I am not sure if it is worth the hype at $40 lagnasa. I think the cost is built into the work but not the flavor profile. I think the meal is better without the sauce - it made it too salty with it.
