The much beloved grandma pizza
Uriel H.

It's 1 AM on a Friday night and this place gives me life. The slice was perfectly crisp on the edges, chewy in the middle, and just greasy enough to feel right. The sauce had that perfect tang, the cheese pulled like it should, and the crust actually had flavor. My only mistake was not getting two slices. Late-night perfection.

Absolutely love this place. Never thought I'd find somewhere local to replace Andy's but honestly, this is even better. I've shown this place to over 6 other New Yorkers as well and they all agree they've had worse pizza in NY and all liked it a good deal. This is the real deal if you want an NY slice. Also, they make my favorite veggie slice I've ever had anywhere. They add hot peppers to it which is a nice touch. I've also had the vegan supreme a couple times and that's also bomb. This is also a great location to sit outside of on a nice day. Especially being in the little plaza with trees and the fountain going. The inside is more like a standard NY pizza shop though. When getting slices you're served pretty fast too, usually get your slices within 30 seconds of finishing paying. Garlic knots also worth it (they're huge though so don't be fooled by getting "only" 3). Been here a bunch already and will be back a bunch more!

I've been a frequent patron of this location in the past year without any issue. However, today was a different story. I ordered the pepperoni and IL Capo slice to go. I ate the pepperoni slice with no issue, but when I go to the IL capo slice, as I'm literally taking a bite, I notice a spider on the pizza. I assume it must have gotten inside the box so I used my napkins to pick it off. To my surprise, it was dead and cooked into the pizza. I'm not sure how a spider makes it all the way into your oven, cooked, and then presented to a paying PREGNANT patron. I've called and left a voicemail, no response.

Visiting from Canada, cute spot, patio is full inside seating is empty. Staff were really nice and helpful when asked questions. The pizza selection is good they had quite a few options. The pizza tastes really gooddd the thing crust was super good ! Slices are a good size

Location: great! Situated by an ice rink in Navy Yard. Shares its location with a gelato shop. Inside has few sets in the front, and additional seating in the back Service was quick and painless. The workers were friendly. We came on a Thursday night. We were looking for the vegan options, but they only had a couple old-looking slices left of one of the options. So it might be best to come earlier, or call-ahead to verify before choosing an alternate location. We tried a few different slices. Backyard 9/10, Buffalo Chicken 9/10, Mushroom Truffle 7.5/10. And the Spicy Roni was a 3/10. The crust was sooooo hard. On top of that, the Spicy Roni is a smaller slice, but still the same $5 price as the larger slices. It was sooo hard to bite into. I get it was reheated, but there's no way the dough was meant to be that crispy. Or was it? I actually cut my gums on it (wish i was joking). Overall, as a NY'er, i would definitely come back and recommend as they have lots of options.

It has been a while since I last had Wiseguy, and recently, for a get-together, we ordered a good variety: +Margherita - prepared with tomato sauce, fresh mozz, fresh basil, parmigiano, and EVOO +Backyard - prepared with tomato sauce, green peppers, red onions, mushrooms, kalamata olives, chili peppers, and mozzaarella +Supreme - prepared with tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, red onions, and mozzarella +Il Capo - prepared with tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, and mozzarella +a Mediterranean salad - with cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, green peppers, red onions, and lettuce +House Caesar and House Balsamic dressings +Chocolate Cookies - that are freshly baked on a daily basis I was a fan of the Backyard, as this was a spicy version of a vegetarian - I did like the fact that the crust was thinner and the toppings were generous. The sizes of the pies were really large, so each slice could technically amount to 2 slices. Salads were really fresh, and I really liked the thick and creamy House Caesar dressing. The chocolate cookies were soft and the chips were still nice and gooey! +Backyard pizza +Mediterranean salad +House Caesar +generous portions

Chicken parm pizza

They never miss here . Great specials. Friendly service . Even better food........... excellent location . Nice outdoor seating . Ice skate in winter and water fountains for kids in the summer

I built my own pizza with pepperoni, sausage & basil. The pizza was good and the sausage had the perfect amount of spice and heat but the slices are too big and floppy for my desired perfect pizza.

My go-to pizza spot in the neighborhood. I love that they sell by the slice and open late.

Soggy and not great taste. I was expecting better from other reviews. Seemed undercooked.

Best pizza in town. Order the buffalo slice and the bread knots. The margarita looks good but I'm stuck on the buffalo slice

I grab and use in their entirety both the orange-y hot sauce and the green sauce every time while adding hatch chiles to the simplistico burrito. I've shown several other people this place and they loved it as well. When it turns to side door they make some bomb Detroit style pizza. I truly haven't had a bad example of the style yet. I don't know if I'm selecting well or if it's maybe just low key the ultimate style of pizza but this is yet another fantastic example. It's just a small, quick takeout place for the most part, though there is some seating outside when the weather is appropriate. As such, service is generally to the point which is fine by me.

Street Parking Only & It's Definitely Hit Or Miss. I Got Lucky & Found A Spot, But It Is Metered So Be Prepared To Pay. This Spot Is Literally A "Side Door" Located On The Side Of Scarlet Oak. Super Unique Setup With Cool Lights That Make It Easy To Spot. It's Different From Your Typical Pizza Place, Which I Actually Liked. Since It Was Monday, They Had Half-Off Pizzas If You Dine In & I Had To Take Advantage Of That. CHEESE PIZZA I Ordered A Cheese Pizza & Lemon Water. This Is Detroit-Style Pizza, So Don't Expect New York Style. It's Thick, With A Generous Amount Of Mozzarella Cheese & Tomato Sauce. Honestly, It Almost Felt Like A Cheesy Bread Situation But In A Good Way. The Crust Was Buttery With A Slight Crisp On The Outside & Soft Inside, Which Was The Perfect Balance. The Ingredients Tasted Fresh, & It Was Very Filling. The Size I Got Came With 4 Slices, & Honestly, 2 Slices Was More Than Enough. I'd Definitely Come Back & Bring My Son This Feels Like A Spot He'd Love, Especially If He's Into Breadsticks & Cheesy Pizza. The Staff Was Decent, Though I Didn't Interact Much. The Overall Setup Is Interesting, A Full Restaurant Vibe Inside With This Separate Pizza Concept On The Side. Different, But It Works. I'm Glad I Finally Tried It, Unique Setup, Solid Detroit-Style Pizza, & A Great Deal If You Catch It On The Right Day. Just Have To Be In The Mood For Detroit-Style Pizza.

Service: can't say much because it's a pizza place and we only order and take our food. Staff read welcoming and easy to talk to ( male cashier); female staff who took my order and hear up my food my me seems a little mean but it's probably because of the loud noises so it was hard to hear each other....some miscommunication/understanding both ways. That month I had started Uber driving, was in this area of DC, had heard good things about Wiseguy, and decided to eat here. Although I don't like paying to park just to simply eat a meal, I sometimes will make an exception for convenience and/or if it's a place I really want to go. But for the most part, I'll go to restaurant where they have free parking or at least I can find free parking near the restaurant. I remembered getting a parking spot very close and feel like I feed the meter like 50 cents in 2014 parking prices for a quick 30 minute meal. They have all kinds of varieties of slices from the standard toppings or just cheese to fancy ones. Although the pizza is fairly thin, but average for New York style pizza. I tried Andy's Pizza 11 years later in 2025, and while it was solid although not as good as Wiseguy, my real complaint with Andy's was that the pizza is very thin, where I was hungry very soon later; so a much worse value as pricing is comparable to Wiseguy. Wiseguy slices are big, and the pizza is top notch New York style. I went to this location a couple of more times after my initial August 2014 visit as I loved the pizza. Then, they opened up other locations. I went to Navy Yard one at least twice, once after a Nationals baseball game after a disappointing loss for my 4th favorite baseball team, Texas Rangers. Sorry Nats fans, but Nats are in my bottom 10 teams. I also went to Rosslyn & Pentagon City location, where parking isn't quite as bad. They even had a Wheaton Mall food court location, which I got to experience once, but they sadly closed. Every experience with Wiseguy has been positive.

Premium toppings. Fresh, plentiful, great quality. We ordered both well done and received a nice crispy edge on the crust but with all the toppings it's damn near impossible to get a strong enough base to avoid bend. It's worth the compromise- trust me! Both were delicious but I'll skip the detroit crust next time, and there will be a next time. For me the detroit crust was a bit spongy and had a slight yeast taste. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough for me to choose a different crust next time. We also got the ranch for dipping - new experience. That too wasn't for me. The ranch is homemade and great texture and flavor just not what I expected. It had a heavy dill flavor...yep...dill. Again, tasty but, for me, this is more for veggies than pizza. All in all, looking forward to trying other pizzas. Check them out.
