This place has great food, and my experience with the service has been fine. You may have to wait for a table as they get really, really busy sometimes, but other than that, not many problems. On a recent visit though I asked for a to go box and was told that there is a 50 cent charge for one, but that I could have a paper plate and a piece of foil for free. Silly. They give you a HUGE amount of food, then want to charge you for taking home the left overs. Obviously they must be reacting to an increase in the cost of the boxes. The boxes are a much simpler, cleaner, more effective solution to the situation than paper plates and tin foil. And is there no cost to the process of explaining all this to people, and having to cut tin foil and bring it out? And what about the annoyance factor. Someone needs to rethink this. read more

This place has some really good breakfast food, especially for Corvallis. The downside since its on the smaller side it takes forever to get a seat. Also the servers are hit and miss, typically with more miss. Take forever for a refill or they seem to go to every table but yours. Another issue we have had is with the corn beef hash, we have ordered it twice and each time the potatoes have been on the raw side. Since they are pre made we have been told there isnt anything that can be done, they just offer a different side when we have complained. Also consistency can be an issue. Im not a fan of over done hashbrowns, where the wife loves them really crispy. Each time we have both had hashbrowns one of the orders is really crispy and the other has been raw. I recommend the ham and cheese omelet, add bacon and mushrooms. Also its nice to be able to order gluten free toast. read more

We had been to the Broken Yolk many times before during our visits to Corvallis and have enjoyed it, but recently we were in town because of a loss in the immediate family. We don't live nearby, so we needed to rely on hotel rooms and restaurants while dealing with the final preparations for our loved one. I asked if it would be possible to get a table in the back away from the happier, louder customers, and despite being short handed that day they honored my request. The waitresses were so kind. The food is good. The service was awful. Plus since when are skin tight blue yoga pants work attire. Because of the awesome service I got on civil war Saturday, in apparently the only breakfast place in Corvallis, this place would get 5 stars. However, the food was not too great. I walked in with high hopes. I expected a meal that tasted home made with love, but what I got was like left overs from ihop! In out way to a OSU game we stopped for a bite. After a short wait we were seated. I ordered the 3rd Street Scramble and it was delicious. Scrambled eggs, pine nuts, roasted garlic, spinach and feta. The experience we had here was not great. We were visiting from out of town for a track meet and decided to give it a try. First of all, the service was horrible. The lady was so unfriendly and didn't even say two words to us hardly. After seating us she came back a few minutes later and with pin and pad in hand just stopped at our table looked at us like, "Well, what are you going to order I don't have all day." Not even a "What can I get for you today" just stared at us. Then the food was horrible. My son ordered the French toast and it was just okay. It was a lot better after putting the strawberry jam on it. I ordered the two egg breakfast with hash browns and toast. The eggs tasted like they were fried in old rancid grease and the hash browns were not any better. I couldn't even eat them. The best part of the meal was the toast with the jam. Then we had to ask for a new fork because the supposedly clean one on the table had dried food all over it. Also right by our table out in the open is a cart where they stack all the dirty dishes they bus from the tables. It was so unappetizing. This place used to be my favorite breakfast eatery that I had ever been. USED TO BE! 3 out of the last 4 times have been questionable to horrible. Wrote one experience off because we went on game day and it was really busy. Another time my omelet was burnt to the point that the eggs were tough. Today takes the cake. The waitress came to the table to fill the water glasses. She filled my wife's which emptied the pitcher. She never returned to fill mine and it was completely empty. I got to eat with nothing to drink. Then my wife had a hair in her food. When we told the waitress she said she would be right back. She came back about 5 minutes later to collect our card for payment. As we are sitting there watching her serve others, hug other employees, and refill things in the waitress station we are wondering where our credit card is. After about 10 minutes she returns to the table with our card and receipt. No adjustment for hair in the food, which was fine, but not even a sorry or any comment about the hair in the food. The hair was much to long to be mine or my wife's. This is strike 3 for my family. Went from Broken Yolk to Fricking Joke. I would not have written a poor review if they would have simply acknowledged the hair in the food. Unbelievable. We did not want anything for free. read more
