Truely, one of my favorite places to eat because it is affordable and such a vibe! The atmosphere is that of a 50s diner. My favorite thing on the menu is the cherry limeade because they add a scoop of lime sherbert to the top. The service at this location is great too, always super friendly and fast! While we were there there was a guy walking around cleaning up all the tables as soon as people left which shows how clean the place is! He was on top of it!!

We arrived and the sign said to seat ourselves. We found an available booth. The restaurant was clean. The waitress brought us water and took our order. She brought our cherry limeades and then the food shortly after. Everything came out hot and delicious. We enjoyed our experience! We will be back!

Where have all the Winsteads gone? Not sure how many are left in KC but I do know they used to be everywhere. After eating here I can see why. The food is actually pretty good. especially their limeades. But the decor is like eating in a 1950s space diner for depressed people. Like if there was a restaurant in outer space and you were flying around in your spaceship and really didn't care where you ate because you just finished a long haul across the galaxy and you are on your 3rd marriage and your kids live on different planets and you just want the pain to end but you don't know what to do, so you think to yourself "Hey, maybe a hamburger, tots and shake will cheer me up." But it doesn't; because outer space isn't what you thought it would be. You are at this restaurant because in space no one can hear you crying into your vanilla shake. This would be the restaurant where you would do your crying. The service was fine too.

Lacy crispy wonderful patties. This place has been open for 80 years and the decor is frozen in time. My grandpa used to come here 75 years ago and it's so unique being able to have a similar dining experience today. The burgers are awesome - highly recommend throwing on grilled onions. The cherry limeade is a must try it's nostalgic and absolutely delicious. It comes with a little scoop of a lime sorbet that you mix in and it's so so so good.

If you see a Freddy's and Winstead's across the street from each other ALWAYS choose Winstead's, especially if you can sit down for the full 70's diner experience. Usually people don't like "outdated" decor, but I hope they never switch it up. From the bar to the booth, all the way up to the lights this place definitely brings nostalgia for anyone 25+. First the limeade is freshly squeezed, it honestly doesn't get any better than that; BUT IT DOES because it comes with a scoop of lime sherbet. The tater tots are crispy and fried fresh. The burger tastes freshly smashed and cooked as well, but I can't verify like the limeade because it wasn't made in front of me. Just trusting my instincts here(: Everyday they have happy hour from 3-6 which is half off all drinks and shakes and we got here right at 3! An amazing homemade meal for 2 under $20 you really can't beat that nowadays. The service was also impeccable and her name was Joselyn! I love this place and the food I could continue going on, but I think this'll do for now.

If there's one thing about me, it's that I am a Winstead's girlie for life. They have THE greatest milkshakes. If you're an icey, classic-style milkshake fan, Winstead's is the only place that really satisfies. None of that nasty creamy and thick stuff that tastes super fake and basically like pure preservatives-- no. These milkshakes are banging. It's actually insane. Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, CHERRY?? BUTTERSOTCH??? are you kidding me. They are all so good. The food is great, greasy as fast food should be, but not overly so. The employees at the Roe location are always great too. Really excellent service from a hard working group of people. This is only one of two remaining locations in the world, and I will always drive out of my way for both of them. If they ever close I don't even know what I'm supposed to do with my life. Where else can you get a shake this good??

Good food, great prices!…read more We are always looking for places for breakfast. I think it may be our favorite meal to eat out and Caleb's will probably make it into our rotation. The place is part of the red bridge shopping center which has been redone and looks really nice. I got the cheesy omelet with ham. Some variation of this is what I always get. It had cheddar and jack cheese, and it tasted really good. I think if they would have added American cheese to the mix it would have been perfect. I got the potatoes and unfortunately they were over seasoned. The sourdough toast was good. My wife got the country scramble. She liked it but she thought the gravy was just ok. Seems like gravy is the weakness at a lot of places so if you find one that has great gravy then that is five stars. The restaurant itself is fine. It's clean, but to me it just looks like every other breakfast restaurant and I wish they would have done something different to stand out. Our server was very accurate, efficient and pleasant. It's a breakfast place so they have big sections and turning tables is the name of the game, so keep that in mind. Having worked in restaurants in my younger days I totally know what makes a great breakfast server and this is what you want. The price was really good. My wife and I ate there for 30 bucks. In 2026 that is really good. Overall, the place was good and the price was great. I gave it 4 stars because nothing stands out but it's solid all around. For the most part, that is all you need, we will be back!

Tried the Texas Benny which was really good. The gravy was tasty but the potatoes weren't seasoned or salted. Also tried the Denver scrambler. I ordered with breakfast potatoes but ended up getting hash-browns but besides that it was good. They did fully butter my bread when I would've wanted the option on how much to apply. Also tried their horchata which didn't have as much cinnamon as I'm used too but still super yummy. There weren't many people here on a Sunday at 9 but they seemed to be running around while having one big party. I personally think it's a typical breakfast place and don't plan on coming back but it's nice to try at least once.

Our order came out pretty quickly, though another employee had to run out with something that was left out. About five minutes into the drive home, the restaurant called again--another item had been forgotten. I turned around and called when I got back. They offered a free drink, which we declined. At that point, the food was already cooling off, and we still had a 10-minute drive ahead, so waiting around for drinks didn't seem worth it. Mom got the Eggibirria Omelette and really liked it. I tried a bite and thought it was good too. A little too "wet" for me, but that's just personal taste. Now, about my order: The Mamba Burrito. It was big, and the spinach cheese dip was actually really good--though some of it leaked into the bag during our trips. My main issue is with the burrito itself. The menu says it's filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, chorizo, pico de gallo, and potatoes, topped with spinach cheese dip. That's not quite how I'd describe it. Honestly, it should say: "A giant flour tortilla filled with potatoes (and a few other things if you dig around enough)." The potatoes weren't just part of the mix--they were the mix. The eggs were barely noticeable, buried in what felt like a mountain of spuds. Bacon showed up in a few random flakes. The sausage and chorizo were there, but the chorizo was not a flavor I enjoyed and I usually love chorizo. And the pico? Maybe a spoonful, tops. To be blunt, I think I could've ordered two full-sized baked potatoes and still ended up with less potato than what was packed into that burrito. It was just too much--overwhelming and totally out of balance. I'm not saying I'd never go back; sometimes a place deserves a second shot. But with so many options out there, this one's not exactly high on my list for a return visit.

The Food: Chicken Fried Chicken: This is the real deal. It was clearly prepared fresh, not frozen, which is a rarity these days. The Sides: The home potatoes were perfectly crispy, and the gravy was thick, peppery, and hit all the right notes. The Biscuit: This "super-sized" biscuit was essentially the icing on the cake. The Eggs: I ordered my eggs poached soft. They arrived a bit too soft (runny yolk was the goal, but these were just under), though in fairness, that's likely on me for the specific request!
