    Orange Juice

My husband and I stumbled upon this breakfast spot on a Sunday morning since it was close to our hotel in Overland Park. The place was byustling, and we were so glad we discovered it. It felt like a local hidden gem for us out-of-towners. The staff did an amazing job turning tables quickly so everyone could be seated without much wait. The restaurant itself had a cozy, homey atmosphere that made it even more inviting. We both ordered the Flapjacks Specials. I ordered the #3 which came with french toast and my husband ordered the #1 which came with flapjacks. We loved that the specials came with a little cup of orange juice alongside the meal, which was a nice touch. Everything we tried was delicious, and we left impressed. I'd definitely come back here if I'm ever in the area again!

Service was excellent and we got our food so incredibly fast! Food was so delicious and homemade hollandaise sauce was some of the best I've had! Will definitely be coming here again to try new things!

The owner, George, is incredibly friendly. I even saw him help an elderly gentleman by guiding his arm into his jacket sleeve when he was struggling. Throughout our meal, George checked on us regularly, as did our waitress. Despite it being a busy Sunday, the service was exceptionally attentive. I ordered the corned beef hash, which came with two pancakes, eggs of choice ( i ordered scramble with cheese), and hash browns. It was the perfect portion, but the star of the meal was definitely the corned beef hash--freshly made and delicious. This place came highly recommended, and now I see why! We all left full and happy.

Stumble upon this hidden gem by accident. It is now one of my favorite brunch spot. The brunch selection is incredible! We came on the day after Thanksgiving. It was packed but we were quickly seated. The dining room is clean with cute signs on the wall. The food came out hot and fast. Biscuit and gravy is a must for me. Really great portion. One of the best I've ever had. I cannot stop raving about it. Looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend!!!

Loved this place. The breakfast was better than lunch in my opinion. Had the omelette and it was incredible, flapjacks were also really great. Split an Italian beef with my brother and it was okay, lacked some flavor. Great service and prices though, I will definitely be back!

Good service. Ok food. But lord there is no temperature control. It was so hot in there. We almost couldn't stand it. Also...not my vibe. Seemed more for the after church crowd even though I was there on a Saturday.

Such a good breakfast place! Place was packed and got sat at the bar but was tended to fast and food also came out quick! The French toast was nice a fluffy and sooo good. Hash browns were also nice and crispy!

Inspired Play Cafe always has nicer wooden Montessori type of toys and learning games. I have typically gone to the Merriam location as it is closer but they are just going to have this location remain open. The owner is very nice and welcoming and she is updating and always rotating items for it to remain fresh for clients. They also have new and cheaper monthly fee which is a great deal. It is a nice atmosphere but they do need to remember to keep the music playlist playing as it is nice to relax to. The only reason I gave this location a 4 was because when I first entered the play area it was a complete disaster. There were only 2 parents at the time but they never picked up after their kids and it was hard to find matching toy items as they were everywhere. This is not typical of the Merriam location so it's probably just an issue today. They might want to suggest to parents to pick up after their child once they leave a specific area. I ended up picking the place up because the parents left and then it was more obvious to my grandson and other kids that came what toys there were available in each area.

Now, this isn't my first time at this First Watch and I'm not sure what's changed but we almost didn't come here because we couldn't jump on a waitlist before arriving and in the past when I've found myself here there is often a long wait. Our party of eight just waltzed right in on a Sunday around 10am which was truly shocking to me. I'm not complaining, I'm just surprised! So, if you have a large group and are dreading finding a spot this might be the one for you. Now onto the food. Like other First Watch locations I've visited in the past two years or so, the food quality has really gone up. I used to think of First Watch as being kind of basic - terrible coffee, just generic brunch food, but now I think their menu has really focused on fresh ingredients and you can find some healthier options that still pack some good flavor. I'm still nervous to try their drip coffee so I can't speak to that, but I did see that they must now have an espresso machine as they offer a much wider array of coffee options. So in essence, I've surprised myself with my newfound love for breakfast here. Finally, I'll add that it's still fairly affordable, so all in all not a bad spot for a weekend brunch with your family.

The rolls were good looking and ready when we got there. They normally serve sandwiches and soups but because it was before the holiday, they weren't offering it. They were pretty large and were a bit dense. I like all bread so no complaints from me. My boyfriend felt they'd be better suited for making a leftover turkey thanksgiving sandwich. Either way, they were good. We snagged a lemon bar and a cherry pie crumble bar. The crust on both was pretty thick. They both had good flavor but I found myself wishing for a bit more fruit filling on both but especially the lemon bar. The cherry pie bar was my favorite between the two but both were delicious. I'll definitely be back and I hope to try a few of their other offerings.

They absolutely have the processes of this little restaurant honed to perfection, and even during a busy lunch time kept things humming so that there was minimal wait time (to order, for the food to be brought out, and to pay for our meal). Many, MANY thanks to Robert, who seated us, took our order, brought our food out, and settled our bill. He was friendly, efficient, and so welcoming. It was a joy to watch him work; he made sure to greet each and every customer coming in the door, and was consistently so upbeat and positive. And many, MANY thanks to Tony at the grill! Our food was FANTASTIC!! I have high standards for Mediterranean food, and the falafel wrap was totally delicious! The falafel itself was perfectly cooked, with a crispy outer layer, and the other ingredients in the wrap were chosen for a perfect melding of flavors. I had the side salad, with homemade Thai peanut dressing, and it was equally tasty. My husband had the patty melt, which came on homemade bread (!) and was, per his report, perfectly done. His side was tater tots, and we shared them. They were crisp and light without being greasy, and addictively yummy! The restaurant is in a strip center; it's not very big, but the tables are well placed so that no one feels cramped. The open reception area and kitchen/grill make it easy for the staff to respond to what's happening in the dining room (e.g., new folks arriving). It was a truly memorable meal, and we'll definitely be back! Again, MANY thanks to Robert and Tony for such a great lunch. We appreciate you!

Now…read morethat we've cleared that up, let's get to the meat and potatoes -- or in this case, chicken and rice. (Don't worry, we'll circle back to the actual meat and potatoes later.) I ordered a large Mango Lassi. It was delicious -- creamy, sweet, and refreshing -- but calling it "large" might be a slight exaggeration. Still, flavor-wise, no complaints. The real reason I chose this restaurant was the Chicken Rice Platter, and to say it delivered would be an understatement. There's a spot in Houston I used to visit just for this exact dish, and this version absolutely blew it out of the park. A solid 10/10. The chicken tasted like it was rotisserie-style, with a beautifully seasoned crust on the outside and juicy, tender white meat inside. It's served over fragrant yellow rice, topped with a rich white sauce, and paired with a fresh cucumber salad on the side. Hands down, my favorite dish of the night. Next up was the Beef Nihari, served with naan and yellow rice, along with the Karachi Chicken Biryani. The Beef Nihari is a thick, deeply seasoned beef stew with generous chunks of fall-apart tender meat. It's hearty, comforting, and packed with flavor. The warm, fluffy, pillowy naan was perfect for soaking up that rich broth. Paired with yellow rice, it makes for a seriously satisfying meal. (Side note: it is oily -- which is traditional and expected -- just a friendly heads up.) The Karachi Chicken Biryani was beautifully spiced, aromatic, and fluffy. Tender chicken thighs and drumsticks were nestled into the rice alongside hearty chunks of potato -- told you we'd get to the meat and potatoes. It has a noticeable kick, but nothing overwhelming. Just bold, well-balanced spice. To finish, I had a large Lemon Mint Virgin Mojito. Extremely refreshing -- crisp citrus and minty cool -- but again, "European large" might be the more accurate description. I placed this as a carry-out order and made the commute to pick it up. The restaurant is located in Overland Park in an area that seems to have several similar establishments, at least from my perspective. Once inside the double doors, you're welcomed into a fairly modern dining space with seating for couples and larger groups, plus a private dining area. There appeared to be a buffet set up -- possibly for Iftar -- which is a thoughtful and convenient touch. I also appreciated the designated prayer area, which was a wonderful detail to see. The host was friendly, and my food was ready in a timely manner. Overall, I was genuinely impressed. Flavor, atmosphere, hospitality -- all on point. Definitely check it out for yourself.
